Austin Hatch's story is one of tragedy, incomprehensible loss, and triumph. On Labor Day of 2003, Austin and his family were flying from Northern Michigan to Fort Wayne, IN. As they were preparing to land, the aircraft crashed and burst into flames. Austin's dad threw him out of the plane to save his life and ran back into the plane to get his mom and siblings. Tragically, Austin and his dad were the only survivors. They grieved the loss of their family and pushed on, which is what they would've wanted. Ep 138Lead Like a Pro: Insights from Two-Time Super Bowl Champ Perry Williams, Episode #138

Perry Williams is a retired NFL Player and two-time Super Bowl Champion. He's also a keynote speaker and the Director of Sports Management at Long Island University (LIU). On a team of stars, Perry Williams was an unsung hero and silent leader of the New York Giants Football team for 11 seasons (1983-1994). He was the starting right cornerback for one of the most storied and dynamic defenses in NFL history, culminating with two NFL Super Bowl Championships (1986-1987) and (1990-1991). Impressively, Perry holds the record for the most games played as a defensive back (corner) in the history of the Giants—a testament to his dedication and consistency. Perry's greatest accomplishment as a New York Giant was not his all-pro honors or Super Bowl championships, but rather, that he was a benefactor and now a director of outreach programs for the New York Giants Degree Completion Program at Fairleigh Dickinson University, which has since become the model adopted by the NFL and its member teams for the benefit of its players. During his professional football career off-season, Perry earned a Criminal Justice/Sociology Bachelor of Arts degree from North Carolina State University and a Master of Public Administration degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. This is a feat that is virtually unheard of in the lucrative world of professional sports. Perry is a highly sought-after motivational speaker that has been invited to work with companies like Exxon/Mobil, Starbucks, IBM, UPS, and Verizon Wireless. He has lectured at hundreds of Schools, Colleges, and Universities as well as other respected organizations such as the United Way Foundation. Listen in for some great takeaways about Perry's journey as a two-time Super Bowl Champion and how preparing for life after football has allowed him to be a champion both on and off the field. Ep 117Unlock the Magic of Storytelling: Lessons from Former Disney Imagineer Theron Skees, Episode #117

Theron Skees is a highly adaptive, solution-oriented creative executive with 30 years of experience assembling and leading multi-disciplined teams for both domestic and international projects in the Themed Entertainment Industry. Theron is a veteran of Walt Disney Imagineering and he has led diverse creation, design, and construction projects from hundreds of millions to multiple billions of dollars in a wide variety of experience types. He is a corporate culture evangelist who applies vision, strategy, focus, and high personal standards to advance design and increase brand equity by using stories as the key element to deliver business goals and make an emotional connection to guests. Theron founded The Designer's Creative Studio to leverage his skills and experiences for the worldwide business community. Listen in for some great takeaways from his time at Disney and his passion for creating unbelievable experiences for people. >>>>>>>>>>>>> You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... Learn more about Theron and The Designer's Creative Studio [3:20] What business owners can learn from the Disney experience [6:26] How they approach the physical environments on Disney cruise ships [11:40] Why being laid off from Disney was the best thing that ever happened [15:56] Theron shares why every business needs to find its "Why" [22:50] How Theron uses creativity and storytelling to design customer experiences [25:49] Why getting to know your customers inside and out really matters [30:18] The importance of making creativity part of your company culture [34:15] Why Theron screens and selects the clients he works with carefully [38:27] What Theron did today that put him in the right mindset for success [43:02] Why being laid off from Disney was the best thing that ever happened One of Theron's favorite quotes was Eleanor Roosevelt's: "I'm like a tea bag. You never know how strong I am until you put me in hot water." His career in Imagineering at Disney equated to that. Every new role he took on was something he'd never done before. He continued to take on bigger and bigger roles. He worked 70-hour weeks and traveled at least one week a month. When he was designing cruise ships, he had to fly 9 hours and drive two hours to simply get to the shipyard. When he was laid off, he realized it was a gift. He notes that very few opportunities give you time to stop, think, and reevaluate. Theron decided to take the rest of his career and manage it the way he wanted to. Now he does consulting, keynotes and workshops, and executive coaching. He's doing what he loves and interacting with people he enjoys working with. Theron shares why every business needs to find its "Why" Your "why" is important on every level. Theron uses Simon Sinek's Golden Circle process with clients. He's typically hired to help clients refine their brands. So the first thing they do is cover their why: Who are you as a company? Why do you do what you do? From there, the how and the what are easier to put together. Your why story as a company should be expressed in every single touchpoint of your brand—your website, your people, your social media, and more. Engaging your customer in the why of your brand helps create consistency in their experience. How Theron uses creativity and storytelling to design customer experiences Theron is a believer in the Experience Economy approach. Whether it's a product or service, it emphasizes that you're dealing with human beings. And humans catalog memories in story format. So it only makes sense to create experiences driven by story. Every type of interaction with your brand should be designed to be memorable. If you create story-driven experiences that create an emotional connection between your customer and your brand, what you do becomes magical. They'll want to repeat the experience again and again. It works in every vertical of the economy. Story is a consistent element that drives brand equity and creates built-in differentiation within your own segment. The importance of making creativity part of your company culture Business people should be more creative and creative people need to be more business-minded. Businesses need to stay nimble and make decisions quickly. Risk-taking is allowing yourself to fail forward. As humans, we get comfortable when we move into success. It's easy to camp on that. But many big box stores that did that are no longer in existence (like Sears and Toys R Us). You need to be fast on your feet and think in terms of impossible things. You can't be 100% satisfied with where you are. How would you tackle something that seems impossible? Being creative shakes things up. Theron is a wealth of information about designing customer experiences that are memorable to gain lifelong customers. Listen to this episode to learn from a master creator! Ep 103From Hits to Business Success: DC Glenn on Building a Brand with 'Scoop There It Is, Episode #102

DC Glenn is the CEO of a Digital Marketing Company, CLG Investments Inc. You might know him as "DC the Brain Supreme" of Tag Team, who made music history with his multi-platinum hit single and album, "Whoomp There It Is." You'll likely also remember him from the popular Geico commercial, "Scoop There It Is." DC is a talented musician, producer, DJ, marketer, and businessman. He excels at voice acting and is one of the top urban voices for Apple's iTunes radio. He worked from the ground up to develop a rewarding business and is strengthening his enterprise. DC is passionate about empowering, educating, and leaving a legacy of inspiration behind for anyone who hopes to succeed in the music industry. Listen for some great takeaways about how this legendary musician created one of the biggest records ever recorded and embraced the life of an entrepreneur. >>>>>>>>>>>>> You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... Learn more about DC Glenn/DC the Brain Supreme of Tag Team [3:14] What it feels like to have one of the biggest records ever recorded [8:36] Was the song in Mighty Ducks used with their permission? [16:01] How DC fought his way back to success with "Scoop There It Is" [19:52] Where DC's hard-working and hustling mindset originated [23:57] How being a voice-over artist moved DC's career forward [30:55] The next big thing that's in the pipeline for DC Glenn [38:44] What DC did that brought him joy and put him in the mindset for success [40:51] Learn more about DC Glenn/DC the Brain Supreme of Tag Team DC met Steve Rowland in High School and ended up in a band together. DC sang in a choir and played the piano and trumpet. He saw a turntable and mixer at a high school dance and knew he'd become a DJ. One of the first songs he wrote, "Whoomp There It Is," became one of the biggest records ever recorded. It went platinum in a month-and-a-half. DC notes that he made bad decisions from a lack of experience. Sadly, he got into a legal battle when his record company went bankrupt. Another record company bought them out of bankruptcy, but DC lost the rights to his music in the mess. He vowed that would never happen again. He learned what the case was about, how to craft a motion, and how to find someone to take his case. They went through 50 motions to get his lawsuit into court. He put together a discovery file with every piece of information they had. He learned that things will happen and you can't get mad—you just have to be prepared. So he's dedicated his life to helping educate other artists so they don't make the same mistakes. DC forged ahead and created his own way In 2003, Will Ferrell was dancing to his song in the movie, "Elf." DC knew he had an evergreen product and a forever hit record. He knew it was up to him to get his money. Shortly after, he became a licensed commodities broker. He worked at three firms while still DJing at clubs. His record company had depleted his money, so he had to work. It's how CLG Investments Inc formed. He worked with someone at Edward Jones to invest his money. They crafted a plan to take his money and start putting it into SEP IRAs, Roth IRAs, hedge funds, etc. It worked. It elevated his investing IQ. He continued to use his song—even though he wasn't making any money from it—to get shows, commercials, etc. Listen to learn how DC is constantly innovating and educating himself to further his career. How DC Glenn fought his way back to success with "Scoop There It Is" In August 2020, his agent called him and told him that he had booked a Geico commercial. He thought she was messing with him until he checked his phone and saw the message. His agents made this commercial the most lucrative deal he's ever made. The commercial was cast perfectly and they had an amazing time. But he landed the commercial in the middle of the Covid pandemic and he couldn't find a publicist that would take him on. So he joined The Public Relations Society of America the week of the Super Bowl. He was on a podcast with the CEO and asked if a press release was still relevant. He shared his commercial on that podcast and it changed his life forever. How being a voice-over artist moved DC's career forward DC notes that the pandemic was the best thing that ever happened to him. He started doing voiceover work in 2009 and struggled. 10 years later, he tried again. Now he does voiceovers for commercials, promos, animated movies, and trailers. Now, he's getting 10 requests for auditions a day. He gets booked instantly. He started taking acting classes and booked his first national commercial for Pizza Hut in February 2020. DC learned that in life there are no mistakes and missed opportunities. Sometimes in life, you're just not ready. He does amazing things because someone told him that he couldn't. He continues to prove them wrong. He prepares for everything and seeks to become a master. He views obstacles as opportunities. Listen to learn more about DC's entrepreneurial journey and
