Mike Dell's World

Full Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) each have their own sets of advantages and disadvantages. Full Electric Vehicle (EV) Pros: 1. “Zero Emissions” – Full EVs produce no tailpipe emissions, making them environmentally friendly. 2 Lower Operating Costs – Electricity is generally cheaper than gasoline, and EVs typically have fewer moving parts than traditional vehicles, resulting in potentially lower maintenance costs. 3. Quiet Operation – EVs are generally quieter than vehicles with internal combustion engines. 4. Instant Torque – Electric motors provide instant torque, which can lead to quick acceleration. 5. Incentives – Many governments offer tax breaks, rebates, and other incentives for purchasing EVs. 6. Reduced Dependence on Oil – Using EVs can reduce a country’s dependence on imported oil. Cons: 1. Limited Range -Some EVs have a limited driving range compared to gasoline-powered vehicles, although this is improving with advancements in battery technology. 2. Longer Refueling Time – Charging an EV can take longer than filling up a gas tank. 3. Charging Infrastructure – While growing, the EV charging infrastructure is not as widespread as gasoline stations in many areas. 4. Higher Upfront Cost – Although prices are coming down, EVs can have a higher initial purchase price than traditional vehicles. 5. Battery Degradation – Over time, the capacity of the battery can decrease, reducing the vehicle’s range. Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) Pros: 1. Flexibility – PHEVs can run on electricity for short trips and switch to gasoline for longer ones, providing the best of both worlds. 2. Reduced Emissions – While not zero-emission when using gasoline, PHEVs generally emit less than traditional vehicles. 3. Incentives – Like EVs, many governments offer incentives for purchasing PHEVs. 4. Less Range Anxiety – The gasoline engine can act as a backup when the battery is depleted. 5. Charging Infrastructure – While beneficial for PHEVs, it’s not as crucial since they can also run on gasoline. Cons: 1. Still Uses Gasoline – PHEVs still rely on gasoline for longer trips, so they aren’t entirely free from fossil fuels. 2. Complexity – Having both an electric motor and a gasoline engine can lead to more complex maintenance and potential repairs. 3. Higher Upfront Cost – PHEVs can be more expensive than traditional vehicles and sometimes even more than full EVs due to the dual systems. 4. Limited Electric Range – The electric-only range of PHEVs is typically shorter than that of full EVs. 5. Weight – The combination of a gasoline engine, electric motor, and battery can make PHEVs heavier than traditional vehicles or full EVs. In summary, the choice between a full EV and a PHEV depends on individual needs, driving habits, and priorities. Both options contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, but they come with different considerations.

Hello, everyone! It feels like ages since we last caught up. My summer and fall have been quite eventful, to say the least. Flight Adventures: I embarked on an exhilarating flight training journey at the renowned Giving Wings Flight Center in Traverse City. However, life threw a curveball, and I need to undergo rotator cuff surgery this week. This means a short break from my flying lessons. On the bright side, my recovery will give me a reprieve from snowblowing duties this winter!   Home Renovations: On the home front, we’ve taken on some significant projects. The old woodshed behind our garage, which was on its last legs, has been removed. In its stead, we’ve erected a functional carport-style tent. It’s the perfect storage space for our summer essentials, freeing up the garage to serve its primary purpose once again. Podcast News: Exciting times ahead as I’ve committed to NaPodPoMo (National Podcast Posting Month) this year! I’m eager to dive into podcasting throughout November, sharing intriguing episodes with all of you. There’s a plethora of ideas I’ve been toying with, and now’s the perfect time to bring them to life. Stay tuned and thanks for being on this journey with me!

  I’m super excited about the Podcast 2.0 project and the features we have implemented at my Day Job (Blubrry.com). It feels to me very much like Podcasting felt back in the beginning of podcasting 2004-2005. I go over some of those features and why YOU might be interested as a listener OR podcaster. The good old days are back! In other subjects, I have started what is known as the Carnivore diet or PHD (Proper Human Diet) in hopes of improving my health. When is it time to get rid of the old car? I have 2 of them that I really shouldn’t put any money into. BUT, they are not THAT broken. First on the list is my Loser Cruiser My 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan that has a 1/4 million miles on it. It just keeps going and going and going. Right now its leaking power steering fluid. If its the Pump, then it *might* be time to junk it. The other one is a 2006 Subaru Forester that I already totaled once, bought it back, traded it for a pickup truck, traded back for it just recently. It has numerous issues. But nothing too expensive, just a Pain in the butt. My nephew just junked my old 93 F-150 that I sold him 8 years ago. The frame broke. It was time.

Just a quick update talking about Christmas and traveling. Possible new car and the fact that 2020 is OVER very soon. Good deal.

I goofed, this is MDW 354 Had some tractor stuff I did today. Got the lights on it and promptly broke a tie rod. Lucky I have the spare tractors to take parts off. All is back working as it should.   I talk about wanting to get a Model A maybe as a driver car. OR a “zipcode” car.   Our Governer has extended the restaruant shutdown in Michign 🙁 Boo! Everyone have a Merry Christmas!

I talk about trying to find headlights for my old tractor and how it’s impossible to find them locally (at the right price or size). The ham radio stuff I talked about was the SMASH (Sunday Morning Amateur Social Hour) on 3935khz every Sunday at 9am. (Local to Michigan / Ontario area) and the IOOK (International Order of Krazies) net on 7185khz at 10:30am (eastern). I also talk about Podcast Help Desk going 2 times a week (Wednesday and Saturday) and is now a companion show to Podcast Insider. (by Blubrry). It’s my “Help Mike take podcasting more seriously improvement program”. I’ve been podcasting nearly 16 years and never really took it past a hobby. This show (although not “scheduled”) is going to be every Sunday if I can (and do have something to say that week). Not sure what I’m going to do about the weather brief shows. Something to ponder.  

I got a new (to me) 49 year old tractor! It’s a 1971 JD112 lawn TRACTOR (not a just a lawn mower). The pic is from the night I got it here. I’ve replaced the tires, put on Wheel weights and tire chains. Installed the snow blower attachment and got it all ready for winter. I got all my winter stuff done because winter isn’t really here yet. It’s been a mild fall and it gave me time to really get things done outside. I talk about the elite control freaks running our states and cities and play a clip from a “Funny” but not so funny video on YouTube. It’s a little too real to be “funny” but maybe if we use funny in it’s other definition as “Strange” or “Weird”, maybe it’s “funny”. Hope you and yours are doing fine. Catch me next time…

Just a really quick update after nearly 2 months. We had some Covid in the house. All is well now. The new Studio/Office is 99% finished. New podcasting things going on under the hood. I will be doing NaPodPoMo again this year on PodcastHelpDesk.com. Check out to see if I can put out 30 good episodes in 30 days.

In this episode I talk about the new studio, spotify and a few other things. Below is pictures of the contraction of the new “tiny” office and pictures of the Finished Studio (or almost finished) I have window and door trim and shingles on the roof to finish. Also some more sound panels for the ceiling. But, mostly, it’s done. I’ve been working in here for my day-job for a week now. Loving it!

We also talked about eSports and the fact that NASCAR is doing eNASCAR this week on FS1 network TV. They are running a virtual race on the track they would have been on this weekend using iRace (whatever that is) Should be fun seeing the normal broadcasters doing a video game race as if it was a real one.
