Soaking Up Sun & Sales Success at the Kissimmee Summer Special

Having just come off a smashing success at Mecum Auctions' 2020 Kissimmee Summer Special, hosts Matt Avery and John Kraman have a lot to touch on in this episode of On The Move. But, before they do, John gives a rundown of the rest of the Mecum events slated for 2020, including both the newly added Kansas City auction taking place November 19-21 and the Old Standard Auto Parts On Time auction slated for September 16-19. Next, the guys jump into one of the most surprising sales at the Summer Special: a 1989 Jeep Wagoneer "Hellwagon." The SUV appeared mild mannered, but under the hood it had a transplanted supercharged Hellcat 6.2L/707 HP V-8. Speaking of wild rides, Matt shares how Texas tuner Hennessey is offering the MAMMOTH 6x6. The monster truck is a modified 2021 Ram TRX that features a specially tuned 7.0L Hellephant engine delivering more than 1,200 HP. Just three are being built with a price tag of $500,000 each. John then turns to news that Toyota and Subaru will be building off their 86 and BRZ models, releasing a new car for 2021. Rumors are it’ll have a bump in horsepower (from 205 to 260) and now feature a 6-speed manual transmission as standard equipment. Matt keeps the sports car theme going, detailing how Nissan is unveiling its Z Proto on September 15. The guys banter over whether the model will keep to its retro roots or have a modern motif. And at long last, John drops a bombshell, announcing he has a 2020 Corvette C8 on order that he can’t wait to take delivery of later this fall.

Mechanic Tales of Days in Formula 1 w/ TV Host Steve Matchett

This episode of On The Move dives right in with hosts Matt Avery and John Kraman detailing the Mecum Auction schedule for the rest of the year. Then, John shares some personal highlights from watching this year’s 104th running of the Indianapolis 500 (including his affinity for the C8 Corvette pace car) while Matt jumps right to car news, explaining how Jaguar will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of its iconic E-type. The cars have become known by their registration numbers, 9600 HP and 77 RW, and were painted Opalescent Gunmetal Grey and British Racing Green, with the new ones mimicking those color schemes. Pricing for the collector’s items haven’t been announced, but they are available for order now. Then, the guys move on to talk about the 2021 Ram TRX, detailing that all 702 Launch Editions sold out in just a handful of hours. The hot haulers all come painted in Anvil, receive a customized badge and cost more than $90,000. Next up is Jeep’s tease of the upcoming Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, with the brand announcing the reveal will take place on September 3. Matt and John highlight the deep heritage of the model and ponder how it’ll stack up against some of the existing players in the space. Matt and John then shift gears to chat with featured guest Steve Matchett, a former Formula 1 Grand Prix mechanic, author and TV host. Steve shares how he got his start in the industry, first apprenticing as a teenager at a Mazda dealership in England, and then tells of his transition to the Graypaul Ferrari dealership and how he got his break into the world of Formula 1 in 1990. Along the way, he also shares how he bought a farmhouse in the French countryside and set about writing, including penning his best seller, "The Mechanic’s Tale." Racing up to Speed w/ the Latest From Shelby American

This week, hosts Matt Avery and John Kraman are celebrating On The Move’s 20th episode—but that doesn't mean they're letting up the gas on the car talk or auction insight. First, it’s final prep and discussion before next week’s Mecum Summer Special Event in Kissimmee, Florida, slated for August 27-29. John is revved for Lot F11, a 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe. The ultra-hot sportster features Blade Silver paint and just under 1,200 miles on the odometer. Meanwhile, Matt has his eyes on Lot S120, a 2018 Ford GT. The purpose-built track machine features a twin-turbocharged and intercooled 3.5L DOHC EcoBoost engine, and Matt likes its Frozen White paint. Next on the guys’ agenda is roaring into RAM’s ground-pounding 2021 TRX reveal. The hardcore rig features a supercharged 6.2L Hemi V-8 that delivers 702 HP and 650 lb-ft of torque. Unleashed in a straight line, RAM is claiming it’ll click off a 0-60 MPH time of 4.5 seconds. Matt and John both go into why they liked the online unveil and give some thoughts about how it’ll stack up against the Ford Raptor. Matt was a big fan of the inclusion of some of the brand’s heritage icons, including a Lil Red Express and a SRT-10 truck. The duo wraps up the car news with a look at Ford’s Heritage Edition package that will be available on the 2021 GT. The design was inspired by the 1966 Daytona 24 Hour Continental and pays homage to the 55th anniversary of the race where Ford secured its first 24-hour endurance win. Keeping the pedal to the metal, the guys chat with Shelby American Inc. President Gary Patterson. Gary shares how he got his start with the legendary brand, along with some of the latest projects his team is working on, including a hint at some upgrades to the forthcoming 2021 Ford Bronco. Wrapping up the show, Matt and John debut a brand-new segment called On The Move Reviews. As they explain, this a chance for them to both get behind the wheel and use their veteran automotive experience to provide commentary, insight and observations on vehicles both new and old. Kicking things off, this week they go into time behind the wheel of a 2020 Ford Mustang equipped with the 2.3L EcoBoost engine and paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. Both guys liked the car’s looks with its sharp Rapid Red Metallic paint and sporty optional over-the-top racing stripe. It delivered in the fun-to-drive category, with both guys liking the unexpected power and feeling of the manual transmission. Matt did find a couple of quirks, mostly with getting to the backseat, but liked the sense of whimsy the car retains, seen in elements like the Pony Projection puddle lamps and sequential LED tail lamps. Both guys talk about the miles they logged and give a tease of what’s in store for OTM Reviews of the future.

Up To Speed w/ Motorsports TV Host Ralph Sheheen

There’s a slew of car news to address in this episode of On The Move, and hosts Matt Avery and John Kraman kick it off with a big announcement—Mecum Auctions is returning to Indy this October 29-31 for a brand new event called the Fall Special. The auction's set to be held once again at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, the site of the company’s recent 33rd annual flagship auction that once again set records, selling the world’s most expensive Mustang (a 1965 Shelby GT350R that hammered at $3.85 million) and exceeding $74 million in overall sales. Matt and John point out there’s even more Mecum auctions before then, including the upcoming Summer Special, slated for August 27-29 in Kissimmee, Florida. Then it’s talk of FCA’s phasing away with the long-running Dodge Caravan, as well as a spotlight on an often-overlooked Pacifica model with the retro Voyager name. More news of phasing comes with chat of the Journey crossover also being removed from the brand’s lineup. Matt and John ponder replacements before moving on to rumblings that Toyota may offer its Supra with a manual transmission. Matt thinks that’ll help the model connect with enthusiasts who haven’t been overly smitten with the sports car. Slowing things down, John is charged up about some recent actions in the electric pickup truck space while Matt goes full throttle for Shelby American’s announcement of the new GT500 Signature Edition; just 100 will be built, with the package costing just under $30,000 but promising output of over 800 HP. Then, in Segment 2, the guys chat with featured guest, motorsports journalist and TV host Ralph Sheheen. Ralph goes into how he got bit by the racing bug. It started as a young boy when his family went to the original Sacramento Fairgrounds Mile to see the USAC Dirt Champ Cars driven by legendary stars like Mario Andretti and A.J. Foyt. Then the veteran on-air talent goes into his announcing career, including his hosting of the AMA Supercross motorcycle races. He also recounts how Speedsport, the online destination for racing news, grew from a black and white newspaper in 1934 to multiple online properties. Finally, John asks what kinds of collectible rides catch his eye when he’s at a Mecum Auction; the answer includes everything from a Ferrari F50 and a 1978 Porsche 911 Turbo to a 1969 Camaro Resto Mod and a three-window 1932 Hot Rod. Wrapping up the show, Segment 3 rolls out a new feature called Motoring Milestones where Matt and John discuss and debate significant and special makes, models, personalities and more within the automotive industry and collector car hobby. In this inaugural piece, the guys are fired up for what they consider one of the most impactful engines of all time: Chevrolet’s small-block. They go into the iconic powerplant’s origins and all the different applications and configurations it’s been offered in, as well as why it’s been readily embraced by the aftermarket community.

J.D. draws on his vast experience to highlight the ins and outs of keeping wheels and tires clean and looking their best.
