47: Robert Rivera Jr Interview
In this episode the guys release their second of three interviews from the road trip to Atlanta. This interview is with a very talented artist by the name of Robert Rivera Jr. Robert has been working with airbrush and other techniques for more than 13 years and has been drawing since he was in the 3rd grade. Overall we were blown away with Robert's work and highly suggest you visit YouTube for the video version of this episode.Robert was featured by Southland's Full Throttle and is the first artist to be featured by Full Throttle. Some of his work can also be found in prior issues of the American Bagger Magazine for bikes from the Baddest Bagger competition. You notice some of Robert's work during this competition. Kotic Kustoms creates some amazing bikes, which often provide the canvas for Robert's paint. We were introduced to Robert by way of Aerin Shaw, featured in episode 46.Here are a few examples of Robert's work and we encourage everyone to check out his Facebook page. <img data-load="false" data-image="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/53f8e2c8e4b0d77c2329c334/575a0bb645bf214ad4d022fd/575a0bb98a65e2b827e1c039/1465519034128/12592713_1675941116013623_7874490638381945549_n.jpg" data-image-dimensions="576x383" data-image-focal-point="0.5,0.5" alt="12592713_1675941116013623_7874490638381945549_n.jpg" data-click-through-url="" data-type="image" src="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/53f8e2c8e4b0d77c2329c334/575a0bb645bf214ad4d022fd/575a0bb98a65e2b827e1c039/1465519034128/12592713_1675941116013623_7874490638381945549_n.jpg?format=1000w" /><br> <img data-load="false" data-image="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/53f8e2c8e4b0d77c2329c334/575a0bb645bf214ad4d022fd/575a0bb807eaa0f4fd497369/1465519034245/12710871_1678694929071575_3080961236578877243_o.jpg" data-image-dimensions="1440x1440" data-image-focal-point="0.5,0.5" alt="12710871_1678694929071575_3080961236578877243_o.jpg" data-click-through-url="" data-type="image" src="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/53f8e2c8e4b0d77c2329c334/575a0bb645bf214ad4d022fd/575a0bb807eaa0f4fd497369/1465519034245/12710871_1678694929071575_3080961236578877243_o.jpg?format=1000w" /><br> <img data-load="false" data-image="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/53f8e2c8e4b0d77c2329c334/575a0bb645bf214ad4d022fd/575a0bb78a65e2b827e1c02d/1465519032406/12734207_874950019288631_2544227673890136532_n.jpg" data-image-dimensions="960x626" data-image-focal-point="0.5,0.5" alt="12734207_874950019288631_2544227673890136532_n.jpg" data-click-through-url="" data-type="image" src="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/53f8e2c8e4b0d77c2329c334/575a0bb645bf214ad4d022fd/575a0bb78a65e2b827e1c02d/1465519032406/12734207_874950019288631_2544227673890136532_n.jpg?format=1000w" /><br> <img data-load="false" data-image="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/53f8e2c8e4b0d77c2329c334/575a0bb645bf214ad4d022fd/575a0bb707eaa0f4fd497362/1465519032829/12647057_808622202599704_2971065573163144417_n.jpg" data-image-dimensions="960x960" data-image-focal-point="0.5,0.5" alt="12647057_808622202599704_2971065573163144417_n.jpg" data-click-through-url="" data-type="image" src="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/53f8e2c8e4b0d77c2329c334/575a0bb645bf214ad4d022fd/575a0bb707eaa0f4fd497362/1465519032829/12647057_808622202599704_2971065573163144417_n.jpg?format=1000w" /><br> <img data-load="false" data-image="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/53f8e2c8e4b0d77c2329c334/575a0bb645bf214ad4d022fd/575a0bb68a65e2b827e1c028/1465519032016/12742506_874949949288638_2464574137151007950_n.jpg" data-image-dimensions="691x960" data-image-focal-point="0.5,0.5" alt="12742506_874949949288638_2464574137151007950_n.jpg" data-click-through-url="" data-type="image" src="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/53f8e2c8e4b0d77c2329c334/575a0bb645bf214ad4d022fd/575a0bb68a65e2b827e1c028/1465519032016/12742506_874949949288638_2464574137151007950_n.jpg?format=1000w" /><br> <img data-load="false" data-image="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/53f8e2c8e4b0d77c2329c334/575a0bb645bf214ad4d022fd/575a0bb78a65e2b827e1c030/1465519032798/12348144_779637135498211_5607054151423620585_n.jpg" data-image-dimensions="960x960" data-image-focal-point="0.5,0.5" alt="12348144_779637135498211_5607054151423620585_n.jpg" data-click-through-url="" data-type="image" src="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/53f8e2c8e4b0d77c2329c334/575a0bb645bf214ad4d022fd/575a0bb78a65e2b827e1c030

46: Aerin Shaw - Dr. Jekill and Mr. Hyde Exhaust
There is also a video version of this episode, check it out on YouTube. In this episode the guys sit down with the lovely Ms. Aerin Shaw, Vice President and General Manager for the Jekill and Hyde Company USA. Aerin shares details about why the Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde exhaust system was developed. Currently the exhaust is only available in the USA for the following brands: Harley-Davidson, Indian, and Honda Goldwing. The exhaust is one of the top European brands in the market as it allows riders to quiet their bike to avoid sound tickets. That is correct - some European countries will ticket you as much as $3,000 dollars and impound your bike if it's too loud!Aerin then dives into her little side project - Les Femmes Vitesse. Aerin shares about how she started this project and the requirements to be a member. Sorry guys - this group is only for Fast Women and you can only join by being invited by another Les Femmes Vitesse rider.Aerin also shares details – and a few stories – about what bikes she rides, which include a Harley-Davidson Road King Police bike for work, and a sizzling hot and wicked fast Suzuki Hayabusa on weekends – in black and pink of course! 45: Jon drops a HUGE surprise on our Atlanta road trip
The guys talk about the trip from their homes to Atlanta, GA where they had some amazing interviews planned to feature on upcoming shows. Since the trip produced a lot of great content, we will be releasing a show weekly over the next several weeks to get this content out as quickly as possible. After our planning session for episode 46, the guys unpacked the gear and did a mock setup and test run to make sure all of the recording equipment was working properly. During the chat Jon dropped a bomb on Rich and Rico!Ride to Atlanta:Jon left Durham, NC around 6:30am.Jon met up with Rich at D&D in Charlotte, NC around 9:30amRich loaded up Della (WRX) with his stuff and left around 10:00 am.Met up with Rico at 11:30am and went to Yard House for lunch. The guys jumped on I-85 South and rode off to Atlanta, GAHit Atlanta, GA around 4:15 pm - just the right time for rush hour traffic, which took the next hour to get to the hotelAfter a little refresh - back into Della for the 3.5 mile drive to dinner, which only took 30 minutes! Got to love big city traffic...Sena Update - Works great with two, but once a third party was added there was open mic noise. Didn't matter who started intercom. Will have to play around with the Sena more to see if they can figure out the problem. 43: Long Ride Planning Part 1 with Ted from the Motorcycle Men
Tonight we kick off their long ride planning talking about preparing your bike and yourself. We are joined by Ted from the Motorcycle Men podcast to share his experience with long riding. Rich called into the Motorcycle Men podcast during their Episode 22 recording. Rich, Rico, and Ted all where able to get out on their bikes as the east coast weather has made a turn toward warmer weather. What the guys sipped on during the show: Ted chocolate milk. Rich Hoppy Blonde Ale from New Belgium Rico Lazy Magnolia Pecan Ale TOPICS: Rich views a long ride as riding all day on the bike - not going out meeting guys and just hanging out. A good example of this would be mountain ride discussed in episode 42. Reading recommendation for preparing the mind and body for long distance riding:Building an Iron Butt (source: BikeBandit.com) Rich: Focus on getting hydrated couple of days before ride Get a good amount of quality rest Do a nut and bolt check of bike a few weeks before ride, so you have time to correct larger issues Plan out a realistic route with some options for change Rico: Perform bike check- breaks, tires, tire pressure, fluids, and chain/belts Focus on yourself - eat light, hydrate, stretch, etc Check the weather so know what type of gear you need Have right gear for the type of riding you plan to do Have reflective gear if riding at night to make sure you are seen by others Ted: Carry a tire repair kit and tire pump Have extra oil and fuel A must is to have zip ties as they can be very useful in many cases Tool kit Wear compression gear to help with blood flow Camelbak to allow you drink while riding so you stay hydrated. Use the street view in Google Maps to have and idea what road will be like. Jon: Have route planned out and everyone be familiar with an overview of the route. Furkot used to plan trip, which allows you to export to other devices. Alternative to using dedicated GPS unit - check out an app called Co-Pilot. For group riding, make sure everyone knows where next stop will be in case group gets split Carry USB battery pack to provide extra power for devices Check out OutsideHow for some great trip planning information related to camping. Harley announces a new Sportster: The Roadster The guys really like the bike and how it looks. One of Patron members Markus sent us a how Harley should have done it. Ted doesn't like and Rich loves it. Rich gets Ted's opinion of the Moto Guzzi Flying Fortess. Ted - doesn't like the heads sticking out of side. Says batman would buy this bike if he was looking for a bike, also thinks the bike is ugly. Rich loves the bike and is really looking forward to being able to ride it after the release in Sturgis. The guys talked about the Ducati XDiavel. Ted was able to sit on bike and said the cockpit is too small for his size, but loves the look. Rich and Rico are planning on riding it June, stay tune as there will for sure be a show talking about the XDiavel ride. U-TURN: After the recent helmet tech episode, we spin around and take a quick look at a patent from Honda for blind spot monitoring for bikes. The guys don't really like this nor want it on their bikes.

42: Rico returns, Bagger Mountain Ride, plus Indian and Victory Demo Rides
In this episode we welcome Rico back from his vacation, recharged and ready to rock the show. Rico returns with a bang and the guys get right into talking about a day riding in the mounts. Rich jumped on a rented Street Glide for the occasion to have some Bro-Time and we mix conversation from Rico's attendance of an Indian / Victory Demo days event.TOPICS:Rico gave the guys a little review of his vacation with his wife Wendy to Costa Rica.Rich and Rico talk about their meet up and day ride through Caesars head, Brevard (The Square Root Restaurant), Sierra Nevada Brewing, Lake Lure, and OMB as the final stop.Rico attended and Indian / Victory demo eventChief Vintage - Bike was OK, but front felt heavy and didn't like the windshield due to height and his size. Had a rock fly up over windshield and hit his helmet.Chief Dark Horse with stage 1 tuning - Rico was blown off the seat and not due to the lack of windshield and back rest, but the stage 1 tuned motor. All that power and overall feel of the bike, put a smile on his face.Springfield - New bike for 2016 and Rico liked this one as much as the Chieftain. Scout - Fun bike, but was unable to hit the red line (9,000) and Rico's wife Wendy likes it and can see this being her first bike.Scout Sixty - OK bike, nice package for a first bike or perhaps if you intend to only ever buy one, this may fit your bill. Rico would say go with the Scout over the Scout Sixty for him or Wendy.Victory Magnum - Sees why Rich likes the bike. Instrument panel is further away from you when compared to Indian bikes. It still has a good amount of wind buffeting. Bike is very fast and corners well. Overall Rico really enjoyed the bike, and would add it to his stable if he had the funds! Also, Rico labels the bike as the Cadillac due to performance and smooth ride, whereas the Indian is more Lincoln plush and comfy. :)Events:Upcoming events that one or more Loud Pipes! members plan on attending: Moto Vlogging Meetup - May 20th-22nd.12th Annual Barber Vintage Festival (October 7th-9th, 2016) Visit RDubStudios.com/donate if you would like to support and help us improve the show or better yet visit our Patreon page where your contribution will help us achieve our goals and there are rewards for you at different pledge levels.Running time: 1 hour 29 minutes 34 secondsQuestions or comments: [email protected] or the Feedback page

There are also three more "first five" t-shirts remaining as well at the $5/month level.U-TURNHarley's Custom Kings build off is underway, this time with Sportster as the base. NEW TOPICSMatthew has been shaking down some new heated gear. We get his take from this winter season and talk about riding in general.http://www.cyclegear.com/SEDICI-HOTWIRED-Heated-Jacket-Liner-20http://www.cyclegear.com/SEDICI-HOTWIRED-Heated-Leather-Gloves-With-ControllerPros:gets warm very quickly (also a con, see below)windproof and not overly bulkyCons:Was hoping the gloves were more a gauntlet, however the do not fit over his textile jacket sleevesLights on gloves are very hard to see in daylight, Red (Hottest)/ Yellow (Midway)/ Green (Min). Somewhat difficult to turn on when hands are in the gloves. Also, the gear starts at the highest setting. No good documentation on any of the kit, especially wattage.Coat appears to be 90W and gloves are 22W combined. Important to know as a bike's electrical system only supports so much load. ALL heated gear manufacturer's should stress more about this.Be mindful of the polarity, if this is reversed you gear is on full high all the time!Rich offers an alternative to keep your neck warmUpdate on Matthew's Honda Magna project bikeMagna needs new carb boots and the front calipers need rebuilding. About $150 in parts to get it fully back to where it should be.Rich likes that V4 sound and is considering a used VFR project bikeMotoBlogging MeetupVarious moto-vloggers from NC, SC, TN, an GA are meeting up in the North Carolina mountains. There will be a group ride, some camping, and the usual shenanigans. We got into some of the planning details, which leads us toward our long riding episode later this year.Possible routes include: The tail of the Dragon, the Skyway, Devil's Whip, and other great roads in the area.Congrats to Matthew for almost reaching 100 subscribers on his YouTube Channel.Sena - Rich has taken step to tech side on bike - Jon and Rich split cost for dual pack Sena 20s.Matthew and Jon tested out with bike to car with SenaRich - test out bike at all? 39: The Fashionista has an IRON BUTT
Our special guest Deb Gasque from The Fashionista has an IRON BUTT, joins us to share her long distance riding experience. Being someone who likes coffee as much as do, we swapped our usual barley with beans for this episodeBackgroundOriginally from Utah, Deb moved to South Carolina and lives with her husband and garage full of bikes. Starting out in 2006 as a passenger riding with her husband, she decided to take hold of the bars and ride her own.BikesSV650 was the first bike, but the husband felt this may be a bit much to learn on (see the next bike).Honda Rebel 250 - In response to the first bike, Deb was a little put off by the "baby bike" but eventually came to appreciate the weight for learning, especially picking it up. BMW GS650 (named GOAT after dropping a few times riding in the mountains)1994 BMW R1100 RS1994 BMW R1100 RSL - "new" bike :)The ideaDuring winter while not much riding is going on, Deb reads and article about about the Iron Butt. Being a lover of a good challenge, Deb started mapping out how to complete the Iron Butt SaddleSore 1000. The ridesAfter some conversation with her husband, the planning was on and off she went. After completing the first Iron Butt ride Deb fell in love with long distance riding and has been hooked since. In 2015 Deb completed the Bun Burner 1500 within the 36 allotted hours and covered 1600 miles. This year she is planning to do the 50CC. The plan is to leave from Jacksonville, FL and ride to San Diego CA. On her way back she is planning to stop at the Barber Vintage Festival. Look for the Loud Pipes crew to be there for an update on the ride as we enjoy our second trip to Barber. This episode was great fun for us and we look forward to catching up with Deb in the future.
