The Minnesota Wild saw their season come to an end after a 3-2 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6. The Wild fell 4-2 in the series, and for the 3rd straight year lost a series in 6 after taking a 2-1 lead. The Wild fell behind 1-0 on a Power Play goal from Shea Theodore. Ryan Hartman scored his first goal of the series with 4 seconds left in the 1st to tie the game at 1. Jack Eichel scored in the 2nd to make it 2-1 Vegas. Mark Stone scored in the 3rd period to make it 3-1, before Ryan Hartman scored to cut it to 3-2 with 3:30 remaining. The Wild could not muster the tying goal despite a flurry of chances with the net empty. The Wild went 3/4 on the Penalty Kill and 0/2 on the Power Play. Filip Gustavsson stopped 20 of 23 shots in net for the Wild, and was mostly tremendous all series long. Marc-Andre Fleury waved to the crowd before departing the ice in his final NHL game. The Minnesota Wild were pushed to the brink of elimination after losing Game 5 in Vegas 3-2 in Overtime. The Wild had what looked like the go ahead goal from Ryan Hartman with 1:15 remaining in the 3rd period, but after a review for a kicking motion, Vegas challenged for offsides and it was determined that Gustav Nyquist came in offsides and the goal was waived off. In the overtime period the Golden Knights got the outright win on a goal by Jack Eichel. The Wild trailed 1-0 after a shorthanded goal by the Golden Knights in the 1st period before Kirill Kaprizov scored his 5th goal of the series to tie the score at 1-1. The Golden Knights took a 2-1 lead later in the 1st on Mark Stone's 1st goal of the series and held that lead until Matt Boldy scored his 5th goal of the series to tie the score in the 3rd. Brett Howden scored 4 minutes into OT to give the Golden Knights a 3-2 series lead and a chance to close the Wild out in 6 on Thursday. The Minnesota Wild welcomed the home crowd to the playoffs with a 5-2 win over Vegas in Game 3 of their opening round series with the Golden Knights. The Wild got the scoring started on a Power Play goal from Kirill Kaprizov to make it 1-0 with 3 minutes gone in the 1st. Marco Rossi scored his 1st goal of the postseason minutes later to make it 2-0. The Golden Knights got one back to make it 2-1 after 1. The Wild would add to the lead as Matt Boldy and Kirill Kaprizov both scored in the 2nd to make it 4-1. Adin Hill was done for the game after 2 periods, and Reilly Smith scored a shorthanded goal to make it 4-2, but Marcus Foligno scored an empty net goal to seal the scoring. Filip Gustavsson was sensational, stopping 30 of 32 shots for the win, the Wild Penalty Kill held the Golden Knights off the board (except for a shorthanded goal) and the Wild once again held Jack Eichel and Mark Stone off the board. The Minnesota Wild evened up their series against the Vegas Golden Knights with a hot start in a 5-2 win Tuesday night in Vegas. The Wild scored 3 goals in the first period off of Vegas turnovers, as Matt Boldy, Marcus Foligno, and Mats Zuccarello all pushed the Wild out to a 3-0 lead in the period. Kirill Kaprizov scored early in the 2nd to make it 4-0. Vegas would eventually answer as Noah Hanifin cut the lead to 4-1. Tomas Hertl scored to start the 3rd to make it 4-2, but Filip Gustavsson and the Wild defense held the rest of the way. Kirill Kaprizov scored an empty net goal to make it 5-2. Filip Gustavsson stopped 30 of 32 shots, and the Wild blocked 30 shots on defense. The Wild did not commit a penalty, and were unsuccessful in their only Power Play chance of the game. Marc-Andre Fleury came in during the overtime session to get one final send off from the fans. The Wild got their first goal from Marcus Johansson to take a brief 1-0 lead. Filip Gustavsson stopped 22 of 24 shots during regulation and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all 5 shots he faced in Overtime. The Wild were perfect on the Penalty Kill and did not score on their 2 Power Play opportunities. The Minnesota Wild picked up a win in the long awaited return to the lineup for Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek as they beat the San Jose Sharks 8-7 in Overtime at Xcel Energy Center. The Wild started Marc-Andre Fleury in likely his final career start at Xcel Energy Center, and the San Jose Sharks took an early 1-0 lead, before the Wild responded with 2 straight goals from Marcus Johansson and Brock Faber to cap the scoring the first. Macklin Celebrini and Joel Eriksson Ek put on a show in the 2nd, as both players each scored twice, Kirill Kaprizov added a Power Play goal and the game was 5-4 Minnesota after 2. The Sharks kept answering in the 3rd, even after the Wild had built up a 3 goal lead at 7-4 on Joel Eriksson Ek's 3rd and 4th goals of the game. Macklin Celebrini completed his own hat trick, and Will Smith tied the game with under a minute to play in regulation. Kirill Kaprizov scored his second goal of the night to win the game in OT for the Wild, who grab 2 key points. The Wild went 3/4 on the Power Play, and did not commit a penalty themselves. The Minnesota Wild snagged a point as they rallied from a 2-1 deficit late in the 3rd period, but ultimately fell in a shootout 3-2 to the Devils in New Jersey. The Wild fell to 41-28-6 with the loss, and moved 7 points ahead of idle Vancouver in the Wild Card chase. The Wild fell behind 1-0 in the first period as Luke Hughes scored his 7th goal of the season. Vinnie Hinostroza scored his 5th goal of the year in the 3rd to tie the score, but Nico Hischier scored to reclaim the lead 6 minutes later. Matt Boldy cored his 100th career goal with just over 2 minutes to play to tie the score. Neither team scored in Overtime despite chances on both sides, and Mats Zuccarello, Ryan Hartman and Matt Boldy came up empty in the shootout. The Wild went 0-2 on the Power Play and stopped both Devils' Power Plays. The Minnesota Wild picked up a big win over the Washington Capitals by a score of 4-2 Thursday at Xcel Energy Center. The Wild improved to 41-27-5 with the win and 19-16-2 at home. Jon Merrill started the scoring with a goal in the first period to give the Wild a 1-0 lead. Washington scored the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead after the first period. The Wild took the lead for good in the second on goals from Freddy Gaudreau and Matt Boldy to make it 3-2. Gaudreau scored his second goal of the night, and his 18th of the season to make it 4-2. Filip Gustavsson stopped 28 of 30 shots, and the Wild kept Alex Ovechkin quiet in the win. The Wild were 1-2 on the Power Play and a perfect 2-2 on the Penalty Kill. The Minnesota Wild dropped their second straight game as they lost to the Vegas Golden Knights by a score of 5-1. The Wild fell behind 1-0 in the 1st period on Jack Eichel's 24th goal of the season. Brett Howden made it 2-0 in the 2nd on his 20th goal. Marcus Johansson scored to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Jack Eichel scored his 2nd of the game, Tanner Pearson scored an empty netter, and Eichel scored again to complete the hat trick. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 32 of 36 shots for the Wild, but key players were invisible once again, as the Wild couldn't convert on their lone Power Play opportunity, and gave up a Power Play goal to the Golden Knights. The Minnesota Wild dropped the game of a pivotal week in their playoff chase as they fell to the Dallas Stars 3-0 in Dallas Monday night. The Stars scored their first 2 goals in a 60 second span in the second period, on a Power Play goal from Wyatt Johnston on the Power Play, and Matt Duchene to take a 2-0 lead. The Stars scored an empty net goal courtesy of Mason Marchment at the end of the game to seal the scoring. The Wild had some chances, but could not solve Jake Oettinger, as he recorded a shut out win and the Wild went 0-4 on the Power Play. The Wild fall to 40-26-5 on the season, and maintain a 4 point lead on St. Louis with the Blues idle Monday. The Wild will host Vegas tomorrow night for their next game.
