For the second straight game, the New York Mets couldn't do anything against the worst bullpen in baseball and they fell in the series finale, 9-3. Sean Manaea got off to a good start, just like Kodai Senga did last night, but like Senga he hit a wall in the middle innings and was unable to complete five innings. Offensively, the Mets did get off to a solid start leading 3-0, but got just one hit against a bullpen that ranks at the bottom in all of baseball. Reeling from another bad series loss, the Mets will need short memories as they start a three-game series in Atlanta tomorrow night against the Braves. Kodai Senga struggled tonight against the Washington Nationals, as the Mets fell in DC by a final of 5-4. The first two innings saw Senga on cruise control, utilizing his full arsenal and snagging a couple of strike-outs. However, that was where it ended, as Senga started to lose command and left a lot of his offspeed offerings up and in the middle of the zone. Washington was able to jump out to a 4-0 lead before Brett Baty hit another TOWERING home run to get the Mets on the board. And then it was the 6th inning when the Mets mounted a comeback. A pair of opposite field doubles from Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil pulled the Mets back within one run. They were able to load the bases in the inning but couldn't get the tying run across. They did get the tying run on base in the 9th inning, but an inning ending double play dashed any chance the Mets would get their first win after trailing through 8 innings. The New York Mets defeated the Seattle Mariners in the Little League Classic by a final of 7-3. In doing so, the Mets not only picked up a series win but won back to back games for the first time since July 27th. Offensively, it was the baby Mets who led the charge. Francisco Alvarez got things started with an RBI double. Brett Baty and Mark Vientos tacked on a pair and the Mets were off to the races with a 3-0 lead. It was Vientos who handed down the big blow, with his three-run opposite field homer in 5th that pushed the Mets lead to 5. Clay Holmes toed the rubber for the Mets and delivered probably the best that could have been expected from Holmes this time of year. It was five innings of one run ball for the Mets starter. A golden chance in the 9th for New York, saw them load up the bases but were unable to get the winning run across. The 10th saw a defensive miscue from Brett Baty give the Guardians back the lead and then a sac-fly added on the insurance run.
