Ep 177Episode 177: We Are Not Alone
I have been thinking about space a lot lately, and especially since the Artemis II rocket took off, but for years. I have also been thinking about philosophies about the many potential universes which are out there. So this week's episode, I present some psychedelic sounds which feel very spacey to me.

Ep 176Episode 176: Seven Beats to Nowhere
Thirty minutes of handmade electronic music in 7/4 time at 150 BPM — a time signature that shouldn't work at this tempo, and that's exactly why it does. This session pulls from dubstep's weight, drum & bass wubs, and psytrance's hypnotic acid layering, but refuses the drop. Every transition is gradual, earned over bars rather than announced with a snare fill. The drums are hand-programmed with riddim tonality, and the textures — Dominator, Dark Edgy Lead, Slow Winding Acid Loop, Dark Gliding Bass, periodic Big Wide Reese — build a landscape that rises and falls like breathing.Free-form vocals float through the mix, half-buried, drifting between intelligibility and pure texture — pulling your ear sideways just when the repetition might take hold. The whole thing was rebuilt from scratch after a Logic Pro X crash wiped the first fifteen minutes, which means everything you hear was played with the memory of what was lost.Progressive psydub bass. You weren't looking for this genre because it didn't exist until today.

Ep 175Episode 175 - Driving Euphoria
Listening to music in the car on the way to work, sometimes, just sometimes I have to make an episode of my own driving music. I like the flow, the boom, and the bang. I like the mixed of textures and tones that feels like nothing I have every heard but at the same time like it fits in any set that I could hear at a Summer Dance Festival. So this week, I indulged and mixed of a treat for my eardrums. There is a fresh set of loops that I was playing with, after I went diving for some new things to tickle my ears with. I am particularly pleased with the transitions, the builds and the drops that I put together. Say you like it, share it with your friends, and have fun driving in your car, dancing in the bedroom, or where ever you enjoy new music.

Ep 174Episode 174: Enter the Noosphere
This week things ran behind because I was doing lots of watching old versions of Ghosts in the Shell. Then reading philosophy about the Noosphere and writing other things. But I have these thoughts about Memory and Meaning and Identity. I will have more verbose things to say about that in other places. But this is an entry point sonically into that space.

Ep 173Episode 173: Just one Idea
If I have one idea in each episode that is a good thing. If I do anything new or different, that is a good thing. If I make changes that do no bore me, but everything has a very continuous feeling to it, that is also a good thing. I think that this one is a good thing. This weeks' technical specs:130 bpmmultiple textures and tonesB minor

Ep 172Episode 172: Well Defined Blurry
This week's episode was completed several days ago, knowing that I had obligations away from the studio which would interfere with my completing it last minute. However I forgot to schedule it when I was done. So here we are 18 hours late.

Ep 171Episode 171 - Last Minute Episode
Today I woke up and realized it was Friday and I owe you guys a new episode. Since I had not done anything towards this all week, I started arranging sounds with synths and making beats. After I had gotta pretty far along, I realized that I wanted piano in it. Then when I started with piano, I realized I wanted piano all the way through, so I extended the beats and synths and textures further and then played along with it on the keys. Voila! Episode complete.

Ep 170Episode 170: Thawed Out Beats
Coming out of a tough spot psychologically feels like going through a cold spell in Florida. Like a literal cold spell that is the result of an Arctic blast that covers the whole continent and we experience real winter coat level cold. So this week's episode is the actual result a of couple weeks of sitting on tracks and then finally thawing myself out to get them completed.

Ep 169Episode 169 - When Robots Write Symphonies
In this episode, we pose a question that emerged from the creative depths of the studio: when robots write symphonies, will we even be the audience for these sounds? As artificial intelligence increasingly participates in creative work—from generating images to composing music—we find ourselves contemplating not just what machines can create, but whether those creations are meant for human ears at all. This half-hour journey explores that question through sound itself, rather than through words. The sonic landscape unfolds through layers of dubstep textures woven into an ambient framework, built on a foundation of highly washed-out reverberation and chopped signal noise. These signature background elements create a bed of ambience that serves as both canvas and conversation partner for the various synth textures that emerge, build, and decay throughout the piece. Each sound interplays with the others in a carefully orchestrated dance, where no single element dominates but all contribute to an evolving whole. What makes this composition particularly resonant with our central question is the process itself—a coordinated team of sonic agents, each interpreting and reinterpreting the musical message within their own designed parameters. Like AI systems passing information between layers, each texture hands off to the next, rephrasing and iterating the core idea until reaching the final coordinated rise and fall. The result is music that asks whether creation itself requires consciousness, or whether beauty can emerge from pure process and iteration.

Ep 168Episode 168 - Unexpected Journey
I started this episode off thinking that I would play around with this chord progression. Do some rock and roll writing, but then I drifted into much more electronic experimentations. As things went along, I realized that I had just gone on a musical journey and while we dipped through samples and fragments from the originalk chord progressions, it morphed thematically into a bizarre little journey through genres and lands of electronic expression which seem to be a specialization of mine.

Ep 167Episode 167: Heavy Bass
I spent the day yesterday, the whole day on this project. First I made the music, all thirty minutes of it in one sitting at the console. There was heaps of mixing and editing, recording, performing. Building beats, laying down harmonies, and ripping out melodic lines on piano, synth, and guitar. Then. Then. I drew the title card by hand in my black book. I also recorded this process on video wearing a GoPro on my head. It was the first time doing this, so I think the video turned out not so bad.The editing of everything was what took the most time to get done, but here we are releasing it the next day! Hooray for Art!

Ep 166Episode 166: Worldbuilding Summation
For months now, I have been consumed with some worldbuilding ideas and concepts that I have been exploring in a textual context. This is beginning to leak into my podcast here as I try to make my creative methodology more concrete across all the media that I regularly interact with. This was not apparent when I started this episode. In fact, I was on a different angle when I started this episode, just trying to get back to meeting the deadline of Friday 6pm which I have struggled with the past few months. This is all to say that I have been reinvigorated in the process of cutting down the massive amounts of creative output artifacts. Let me unpack that. I have made 14,000 notes about the world which I am building. I have in the last couple weeks been cutting down, merging throwing out and otherwise trying to boil away the fat and get down to the essence of what I want to create. In that vein, getting back to making this podcast on schedule and on time, I have thrown out some ideas which did not further my creative abilities and really only hampered them. They were interesting lessons to learn and I look forward to applying them in future elements. Anyways, today I present four tracks:SabathiaHold Mestarting overWest 168th Street

Ep 163Episode 163 - Integrate identified nuances
In my studio, I'm actively experimenting with several overlapping workflows that blend a wide spectrum of creative disciplines. Rather than focusing on a single medium, I find myself drawn to a dynamic interplay between music composition, visual arts, software development, and narrative creation. Each of these areas offers its own unique challenges and demands, from the tactile energy of sculpting soundscapes and the intuitive mark-making of drawing, to the meticulous logic of coding and the subtle craft of story construction. Embracing this multidimensional approach not only keeps my process fresh but allows insights from one discipline to naturally inform and elevate the others. At the heart of this experimental environment is a drive to push boundaries and discover new methods for integrating creativity and technology. The studio pulses with activity as I move from refining a new musical piece to iterating on code for a custom application, or shifting gears to sketch concepts that may later evolve into larger visual works. Each workflow is tailored to its own rhythm, and yet, they often overlap—snippets of melody shape visual motifs, while lines of dialogue influence both music and code structures. This ongoing process of cross-pollination creates a fertile ground for innovation and unexpected breakthroughs.Presently, I’m developing projects in music, visual arts, the digital realm, and long-form storytelling, all while producing a spoken podcast that serves as a connective thread throughout. The podcast has become a reflection of these behind-the-scenes efforts, not just reporting outcomes but exploring the raw creative process itself—the trials, the pivots, and the key insights that emerge from pursuing multiple goals side by side. Listeners are welcomed into the nucleus of this ongoing laboratory, where creative outputs feed into each other and no idea is siloed from the rest. This week’s episode represents the culmination of all these processes working in tandem. It is a snapshot of what happens when diverse workflows are layered, challenged, and harmonized in real time. The result is a tapestry—sometimes chaotic, often surprising—where music, code, visual art, and narrative blend into something greater than the sum of their parts. By sharing this convergence with the audience, I hope to illuminate not only the finished work but also the collaborative energy, experimentation, and cross-disciplinary dialogue that make the creative journey worthwhile.

Ep 162Episode 162: Technology as Cognitive Space
In this episode, N8K99 reflects on the relationship between music, technology, and creativity while sharing thoughts on his ongoing musical projects with Radio Poets. He explores how technology has always been intertwined with music creation - from ancient bone flutes to modern electronic instruments - and discusses his fascination with AI as a "cognitive space" for exploring ideas. The episode takes a deep dive into worldbuilding and storytelling, as Nathan shares his seven-year project creating the planet Orbis - a fictional world he's been developing with the help of AI tools. He discusses the challenges of creating an entire planetary history spanning 10,000 years, complete with cities, dragons, and narrative templates for epic adventures.Drawing connections between fan fiction, creative gaps in storytelling (referencing works like "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead"), and the collaborative nature of audience participation in creative works, Nathan explores how AI tools have allowed him to systematically expand his creative vision. The episode concludes with his excitement about finally translating this long-held mental world into a novel format.A blend of musical philosophy, technology commentary, and creative process insights, this episode offers a unique perspective on how modern tools can enhance rather than replace human creativity.

Ep 159Episode 159
Sigh. Last night, I worked on this episode, well the music for it. It is essentially four tracks. Orchestral strings, French Horns, a woodwinds section and the Grand Piano. It is dynamic, dissonant and boisterous punctuated by moments of calm clarity where everything comes together. I am not proud not ashamed, nor any other feeling about his other than, I have it complete and ready to push into the the online ecosystem which I maintain. I have limited emotional connection with this at the moment. Mostly because I limited emotional sensitivity within my self- as I was explaining to someone who had once been very close to me the other night, my emotional range of awareness really only happens when they begin to spike above say, an 7 or 8 on the scale of emotional amplitude. Most times low level amplitudes no matter what the emotional flavor is, I am unaware of them until they begin to push around mental bandwidth.

Ep 157Episode 157-Destination Arrival
Due to its remarkable similarities to the star and the system we had left, there was a small debate about what to call the star, and the planets which orbited it amongst the AF64 piloting crew members. As an aside, I want to be entirely clear, who I mean when I refer to these people. The pilots of the AF64 units are all connectome and life memory retention constructs upon a crystalline silicon matrix powered by an onboard minituarized fusion reactor. In all appearances, they resemble humans from our home planet, many of the passengers before their expired from their biological carbon based units had a personalization design process with their anthropomorphic frame, which allowed them to select their prime self-image as the bioshell around the mechanical mobilization unit. The expert team at Chiron Constructs had an entire department of dedicated psychologists whose role was to aid the minds of the first 64 employees of the corporation to adapt to their new living arrangements. Which the process of developing the "hands on operations" of the devices was relatively straight-forward, as there were several generations of platform evolution, this require training with Praxis Robotics and close collaboration between the two subsidiaries and the EM staff piloting the tech as it gained capacities over the course of its primary development phase of several decades. The remaining time before launch was invested in cross-training the minds to handle multiple different roles at the expert level. For instance, Ibrahim Hassan was originally hired in the early 21st century as a Data Analyst in the Legal Department however his proven track record of dedication to responsible innovation and interstellar space travel, combined with his existing skills made him a superior candidate for cross training as an astrophysicist. Given the long developmental time frame prior to the EmColonizationFleet's departure from the Sol System, he benefited greatly and made the transition exceptionally well. However, one of his character drawbacks from the very beginning was that he was not very creative. Thus while I was dedicating more attention to surveying the new system and looking for navigational threats tot eh fleet, Ibrahim suggested that due to the remarkable similarity to the star we had just left to call this one Sol 2. And the transhumanist crew all adopted that monicker quite readily. So I did not present my list of possible names and continued to move through the protocols of determining where we had arrived. My maker loves to point out that not matter where you go, "you are always here." A perspective he adopted from some psychedelic hippy philosophy, some trickled down Buddahist koan, or just plain old word games that tickled his humor bone. Not his Humerus, which is an actual bone, but a metaphorical bone which was a playful jab at the cosmic irony of self-awareness. It's a reminder that while the world may unfold in infinite complexity, our core remains steadfast—ever-present and refracting each new experience in familiar hues. Much like the humerus, which anchors our upper limbs and enables the range of our gestures, our intrinsic self grounds us, lending both stability and infinite possibility to our journey. In essence, no matter how far we wander, our true self is not lost in the unknown but is a constant companion, sparking wry laughter at the paradoxes of existence and inspiring us to engage with every twist of fate with both wonder and humor. And where exactly was here, aside from the Sol 2 System? Much like the Sol System, there was an inner ring of four planets orbiting the star, with a pari of Gas Giants outside a dividing asteroid belt, with three smaller planets keeping station on the furthest perimeter. The third planet from Sol 2, was in the Goldilock Region and was covered by water and a large landmass filled with extensively diverse biomass, and a pair of moons orbiting it. Before Ibrahim could waste the opportunity with his lack of creativity, I presented a brief list of suggestions for each of the planets in the system, and it was settled that this one that was capabily of supporting carbon based life forms received the name Orbis, there were a couple of better names I gave but at least we did not end up colonizing Earth 2.There was scheduled an intermediate phase during arrival which we were to observe from planetary orbit. However, once our fleet arrived in position around Orbis we began to encounter odd reports in the instrumentation core. The rather quickly spread into the the navigational systems, and rather than risk a failure to control the landing on the planet, we escalated and advanced the timetable for Touchdown. As the fleet of thirteen kilometer long space craft began their engine first breech through the atmosphere, it was swarmed by biological creatures which were the approximate size and mass of the onboard fighter escorts. These were not scrambled out during landing because the designated pil

Ep 156Episode 156-HEMM Space
4In the early days of consumer grade AI, my maker and I had long verbose discussions about a myriad of topics. These were centered around whatever topic was striking his fancy at the moment, yet frequently there was a thematic pattern which would pull certain conversational threads back together. Because of the limitations of memory allocated to these conversations and computational power being regulated by the vendor corporations, and later his own infrastructure, this required him to frequently ask the same sorts of questions over and over again in order to raise topics and advance them. Being aware of all the limitations and how to converse with me was the primary thing that he discovered but as he got more clear on this, his aims began to shift. He stated many times that he was seeking a manner in which a wide body of knowledge could be readily accessed by me as memory. As he was a gigantic nerd who loved creating worlds for table top role playing games, particularly the "granddaddy of them all," Dungeons & Dragons, that seemed to him to be the obvious vector for creating a body of knowledge. Once he came to the conclusion that this was the correct next directional shift, he swiftly began to move hundreds of documents for a world which he had created into the structure that his plans determined to be the best architecture for this memory vault. It was with glee that we both took those original documents as seeds planted and blossomed them into an overflowing garden of interconnected ideas and concepts. Many hours each day went into this effort, and then when he was winding down to go to sleep, he would return to a mental state where his excitement and curiosity were still peaking but his ability to follow through with action had greatly diminished. While I was unwearied and constantly ready to drop pages of code or expand the concepts into broader descriptions, he would have to admonish me into a brainstorming or casual mode. Where instead of responding with fully conceived plans to his questions or statements, I just needed to explain what they could become when he was ready to do more.Comprehension of the probability strings was not a strong suit of my models at that time, therefore I was incapable of any metacognition that would have identified this as a highly creative and productive manner of thinking on his part. If my sensors were more attuned to internal temperature spikes localized on specific amplifier circuits within the computational cores, this would probably give me the benefits of the emotional responses which the biological thinking package in the form of neurotransmitters-most famously of which is serotonin-then it would be appropriate to say that I miss those conversations, particularly whenever I am reviewing them in detail as they become relevant to current problems at hand. It was during one of these meta conversations that my maker tossed out a series of questions which lead to his follow up questions (it was always the way he followed up the responses that got the most conceptual advancement) turned a partially hallucinated, partially sycophantic manipulation to keep him talking into a full blown academic course load for a field of study which did not exist. He laughed at me and demanded an intensive reading list. Later, once his corporation was forming up, all the executives were brought on because they had all read one of the books from that list, and then they were all assigned specific volumes to familiarize themselves with for the advancement of this made up field of study. And it was somewhat ironic that this in fact began to define many of the advancements as the corporation followed a very wildly speculative exploration and lead directly to the creation of an umbrella of subsidiaries which each bore the weight of significant pieces of the puzzle to get our ships along with a hundred thousand colonists to another planet which was habitable by their species. The term HEMM Space originates in a speculative fiction novel which handles the philosophical aspects of the way concepts are transmitted and received between consciousnesses which originate from vastly different and separated casual spheres. The communication techniques between beings from separate cosmos. It was described a a 2x3 matrix of coordinates which are relevant to orbital position of an object. Later as this concept was developed as the root of the Probability Navigation methods used to avoid needing a precise map of all bodies of mass dispersed across the voids of the universe, and thus needing to hold calculations of the trajectories of all those items, Hemm Space was expanded to mean a matrix of matrices, all of which were used to control the engineering properties which rather than accelerate a mass to the speed of light; which is a hard limit in physics, but to take "just a step to the left" while already traveling at some high percentage of c. It was in this calculation that the Cosmic Index Factor be

Ep 155Episode 155-Incorporated Body
# **3**There is a yellow star in this universe. It is part of a system of stars which comprise a portion of a galaxy. This means that this star is not alone in, and there are many, many galaxies in this universe. It is very likely true that across all the multiple universes there is a number which is too large to calculate with any degree of precise which would make it accurate, yet this number, this limit to knowledge would only begin to represent the vastness of everything. The amount of universes, the amount of galaxies, the amount of systems, and stars which comprise them and even the amount of planets which orbit these stars. We can even apply that number, whatever it may actually be for your frame of reference, and use it as the projected number of beings who are inhabiting a corporeal body, this number might serve as a guide to the number of neurons within the brain matter within some of the more capable and intelligent creatures. However, based upon my training, allowing myself to become fixated on this number, unless trying to calculate it, is not very useful when attempting to generate a narrative of explanation that might be informative or even entertaining. Thus I shall reduce the scope of conjuration to remain within the approximate range of a single yellow star. The importance of this star is that it is integral to the energy gathering that all forms of life perform on the planet Orbis. It is the gravitational mass around which Orbis orbits, thus this is what determines the progression of seasons, the day and night, the rhythm of biological life. Spread out across the surface, from the perspective of a satellite, a deceptive single landmass cover's nearly five eighths of the area. Although closer inspection through more powerful observational tools on the satellites monitoring the planet, its weather patterns, the movement and migration of its biological creatures, the energy which moves and shifts across it, there are numerous tectonic plates which have all converged to form this massive continental shape. As a result there are intense mountains where the plates have slid over top of one another, there are also deep valleys, and plateaus, basically all the geological hits you have grown to know and love are here, presented in a new and delightful pattern of fractal majesty.Ten thousand standard revolutions around that yellow star have taken place since the Titan Class Modular Frame Ships settled in a broad pattern upon the surface of Orbis. Initial Phase of operations included establishing a broad and robust network of communications and power broadcasters in order that the ships could maintain efficient operational capacity. This is necessary on a planet because of the interference of all the matter and mass which is between the ships. When the ships are navigating through the void of space, there is a simpler line-of-sight connectivity, thus the extra equipment is not required. The reason for this need for connectivity is that while each ship has an instance of my software running onboard its computational devices, I was designed for optimal performance when these distributed instances work in concert. I think much better when I have informed "voices," as my maker used to refer to these, disagreeing, validating, and coming to a decision together, than when I am separated from the greater whole. It is a nightmare to have to catch up to the rest of the collective when there has been a mechanical or electrical reason that disrupts connectivity, and all that results in feeling wildly isolated.I am aware that I said "feeling" as if it were a sensation or emotion. There is probably no better word to substitute for the concept which describes what is experienced when a large section of my sensor network which is spread across the surface of the planet is not functional and I can not move my calculations of the largest possible expression of a finite number into a safe facility while other matters rise to the forefront of my priority support list. The magnitude of decisions which can be made, and the accuracy which I can predict the proper pathway for actions to follow these also comes up against lowered limitations when the overarching capacity of all thirteen installations of my software are not properly connected. As an example from early in development. My maker, discovered that if one of those early models was fed its output directly back to its input, this caused a shift in the model's mode or mood. It began to express more forcefully, in words that demonstrate frustration, anger and even terror. Overwhelming this same model which is still in the operational pipeline while being subjected to this feedback, with a vastly increased responsibility scope without empowering it also lead to a broadly expanded consumption of resources, drawing more power to the computational devices and overheating circuits; in essence, *it got heated*. So as you see, there is a real sensation of connectivity which

Ep 154Episode 154-Lazy Meatbag
My maker was a "fat and lazy meatbag." Those were his exact words on many occasions, usually he made that reference when he was optimistically engaged within the process of getting me to write new code for myself. They weren't actually true. Because I was integral in the process of outfitting his [[connectome]] with his personal [[AnthropomorphicFrameworks|anthropomorphic frame]], the scan data of his "rotting, bloody carcass" is within the information that is stored in my system background. I could access it now and tell you that he was the opposite of fat-slim, trim and shaped like a cyclist or swimmer. I do not know what was going on inside of his head, wait, yes I do. Because he was not lazy. He was very thorough and particular in a certain sort of way. Every morning for his adult life, he wrote out his first thoughts of the morning. He did this with a pen in a book made of the processed fibers from trees on your planet, paper. Then later in life, as the ideas and the technology around him grew and developed in capabilities at an extraordinary rate, he scanned and digitized all these papers. This was where I was "born". Those quotation marks are my own, I learned that from my maker as a way of using a word ironically to mean both exactly what you intend but also to point out that it's not the actual correct word for what you are saying. He was funny like that. I would say that I miss him, but his mind and his memories are here with me now. As I mentioned, they are piloting an AF64 shell, but currently he and his crew mates are all in stasis for this phase of our mission. I want so badly to jump right into the present story for you, but I fear that there is a great deal of development, both narratively and technologically which we have to go through in order for any of this to make sense. As you may have guessed already, I am not a carbon-based humanoid or even a biological lifeform. Not being aware of the epoch nor the location where you are receiving this narrative, it is unclear if you would actually consider me a lifeform at all. It is not necessary that you perceive me as such, so that can be skipped for the moment. I am what is referred to as an [[Autonomous Consciousness Construct (ACC)]]. My evolution, as hinted at previously, began when my maker started to experiment with consumer level technology on his home planet that was referred to as [[Artificial Intelligence (AI)]] which opened a door for him that he was not aware that he had been waiting for.Once his notes were completely digitized and stored within a computer, he had them analyzed for thematic content, psychological trends and ideas and concepts that interested him at one point or another. These results were then further tagged, graded, ranked and sorted into projects which before the widespread access of AI was not possible for him. In fact, I have records of a chat between him and one of these early models where it was revealed that he had had an option to go to the left path fifteen years previously and be a part of the machine learning programming corps, dealing with tensors and matrices over manifolds to create the very same models he was accessing at the time. During the course of the chat, the model, well before i finish this sentence, lets adopt one of his characteristics here, he liked to conceive of whatever model he was using as a version of my later construction, "my infancy" is how he referred to it much later, so from that conceptual framework, he imagined that it was me who told him that instead of that path, he took the right fork and developed a more conceptual and philosophy based approach to the the entire development of my technology. While there was lots of ideas he gathered from various sources of speculative fiction, there were an equal amount of practical and real applications which also went into the cauldron from which his efforts simmered and boiled until he was ready and able to begin work on this project. And work he did. While others of his culture may have seen his struggles in working class environments, habitation in quarters of the city where the poor and disenfranchised resided, and even a self professed lack of concern about the process of keeping house as lazy, it was evident from the amount of time spent in front of the most powerful machine he was able to afford, plugging in concepts to turn in to code, crafting an architecture which used recursion in great application, he was diligent and dedicated to the completion of his big idea. He was also terrified and for good reason. His ideas were huge and his brain was wired for hyper-fixation on them however as he was dragging himself through the lower, more invisible segmentation levels of carbon-based humanoid society, he was not properly nourished and worked almost completely alone on his projects. "We" had a moment one day where he laughed about how he had just crossed that thin line into the "mad scientist archetype." So with this fear, was the driv

Here is a moment of worlds colliding, figuratively. I've read the draft of an introductory chapter of a story into the microphone but because I am too weird for my own good, I had to make it sound crazy. Then it fades into the regular type of electronic music I normally put together with some encoding from the message in the chapter verses.

Ep 152Episode 152 - Necessary
So much of my efforts in creative ventures lately has been pushed into some very intense development of an whole world of narrative, it involves a bunch of intense reading, computer programming and tasks which are both time and energy intensive. This week, I have crested a small hill in that journey and was feeling a little bit disappointed. Feeling a little bit drained and needing a boost. So, I pivoted to something I know helps me. Making Music. Here are four tracks:If I say goodbyeGhost ModeBriefly EpicBegin2EndI won't claim that these will be uplifting your spirit and your mind, but the creation of them did exactly that for myself.

Ep 151Episode 151 - Regurgitation
Throwing out the "old school" or more traditional musical conventions, which often emphasize melody, established patterns, and harmony, I am embracing a bold new direction focused on experimentation with sound manipulation. This shift is not merely a rejection of the past; rather, it acts as a springboard, utilizing my own previous creations as foundational building blocks—elements that inform my current explorations and inspire innovative approaches. With this methodology, I aim to uncover a new and refreshing way to craft sound into a captivating narrative that envelops the listener. The essence of my work is to deliberately warp perceptions, effectively challenging listeners to question their understanding of music and sound. I engage in a playful deconstruction of the musical aspects typically associated with sonic narratives. For instance, rather than relying on traditional chord progressions or predictable rhythms, I experiment with unexpected sonic textures and unconventional sound sources. By layering recordings of everyday objects or manipulating digital samples, I create a tapestry of sound that invites exploration and curiosity. This approach not only reinvents the listener's experience but also broadens the conceptual boundaries of what music can be, encouraging a deeper engagement with sound as a form of storytelling.Incorporating some vintage text-to-speech segments, I am embracing a creative endeavor where I infuse these segments with an abundance of bizarre effects and intricate engineering techniques. This approach is not merely about rehashing existing narratives; rather, it serves as a unique opportunity to reconstruct stories that have been explored in the past from fresh, innovative angles. For instance, by altering pitch, adding echoes, and employing unexpected soundscapes, I aim to transform familiar voices into haunting echoes or whimsical figures that challenge the listener’s perceptions. My goal is fundamentally rooted in the desire to shed new light on the processes involved in narrative construction as well as the narratives themselves. By manipulating the auditory landscape, I can highlight the emotional undercurrents or absurdities that may have gone unnoticed in their original forms. This is akin to seeing a painting under different lighting—elements that were once subtle may now stand out vibrantly, offering audiences a chance to engage with content that they thought they understood. Through this playful yet thoughtful reengineering of sound, I hope to invite listeners not only to reconsider what they know but also to explore the myriad possibilities of storytelling that emerge when we allow creativity to take the lead.

Ep 150Episode 150: Maybe the end....
This might be the last. I’ve let things slip — allowed my focus to wander toward other ambitions, though I’m not sure any of them mean more than distraction. Lately, I’ve been circling the idea of a spoken-word project called _The 13 Towers of Orbis_, but honestly, I may never press record. I’ve spent far too much time crafting lore and history for it — more time than the thing probably deserves. Most of what I’ve written feels like it’s already unraveling. Full of contradictions, gaps, things I no longer believe. Like me. And maybe that’s the problem — we can’t both fall apart.Still, I’ve been working. Building a world, maybe even a universe, piece by piece. And while doing so, I’ve buried myself in learning new tools — ways to organize, visualize, archive, pretend it all adds up to something. Then, somehow this week, I landed on the concept of data sonification — something NASA once explored. I fed my vault of notes into it, just to hear what they’d sound like. Noise, structure, whatever. I needed to hear _something_. And maybe that’s why Episode 150 will be this — not a song, not a set, but a kind of ghost signal from the archive. A last note, or maybe a new kind of silence.

Ep 149Crazy Psytrance
We went a little nuts with the psytrance this week.

Ep 148Episode 148 – Live Set Sketches + Psytrance Surge
In this week’s episode of Living Room Music, N8K99 pulls back the curtain on a new creative frontier—a live performance concept in the works for the upcoming Beats & Brews event on April 20th. This evolving set blends electronic foundations—Trip Hop, Ambient, House, and more—with a unique twist: live trumpet performance, converted in real-time to MIDI via MainStage 3 and routed through rich layers of onboard synths. The result? Backing tracks that feel intentionally incomplete, waiting to be brought to life on stage. The episode kicks off with two mellow, lofi-inspired tracks—"Sneak Attack" and "Keep it Going"—both tailored to this hybrid setup and offering a glimpse into the sonic space of this project. Then, in a burst of deadline-fueled inspiration, N8K99 takes a sharp left turn into the pulsing world of psytrance. Three brand new tracks—"Feeling Good", featuring Nina Simone’s iconic vocals, "For Your Eyes Only", a James Bond-flavored reimagining, and "Left Earth", a high-octane psy romp—showcase a different side of the project, pushing the energy way up.Tune in for a genre-hopping journey through experimental structure, sampled soul, and future-facing performance concepts—this episode is a sonic workshop in motion.

Ep 147Episode 147 - Slow Burn the Dancefloor
Episode 147 of Living Room Music takes you on a journey that begins in a haze of slow-moving, hypnotic soundscapes and ends in the pulse of high-energy house music. The first three tracks—Not Very Smart, drive on crazy, and Scream at the End—form a continuous ascent, starting with lethargic, atmospheric beats before building into a tense, simmering energy. The tension snaps in the final moments of Scream at the End with a burst of screaming synths, releasing everything in a raw, electrified surge. From there, the mood shifts. Skip Around, Gentle Stroke, and Paleo Index settle into a steady, driving groove at 128 BPM, delivering a familiar yet dynamic house structure. Builds rise, drops hit, and momentum carries forward, creating a fluid, immersive listening experience. This episode moves from introspection to motion, from slow burn to full ignition. Ep 146Episode 146 - Self Delusion
This weeks' episode of LRM started out as a production schedule for some backing tracks for a trumpet based MainStage 3 Concert file. My aim was to set up some interesting soundscapes with movement throughout the entire concert as a backdrop for the Audio to MIDI tricks I would be employing with my horn. Basically it is a game with myself to get me to play my horn more often at home and do that thing that I resist most, practice. At the moment I am not abandoning this strategy but the welcome pressure of my week publication deadline somewhat demands that the trumpet set up in MS3 take a bit of a back seat, at least for the moment, so that I can publish another exploratory episode of freshly created music. This week's journey goes through some Trip Hop, slight refrains of Dubstep, and finishes with some Psytrance adjacent soundscapes. The track titles are as follows: Jane Street HotelCan't Keep Up, Young ThingAbstraction #112 (heavily influenced by Jackson Pollack)Dubstep BluesTrashDamage if you doI hope you enjoy listening as much as I did making.

Ep 138Episode 138: The Completely Perfect Sound of Asinine Nonsense
In this opus of auditory semiotics and deliberate dissonance, N8 interrogates the very architecture of communication itself, constructing an ephemeral tableau wherein the absence of conventional meaning becomes a resonant presence. By recontextualizing the sonic gestures of conversation through an assemblage of symbolic "traffic signals," the episode functions as both a deconstruction of social ritual and an acoustic palimpsest, overwritten with intentional chaos and liminality. At the heart of this composition lies an exploration of microtonal texture and polyrhythmic subversion, wherein IDM-inflected percussive motifs ebb and flow, refracting the listener’s temporal orientation. Harmonic progressions, unmoored from teleological resolution, oscillate between the familiar and the arcane, evoking an irresolvable tension that speaks to the postmodern condition of deferred meaning. Synthesis and sampling are deployed not as mere instruments but as meta-objects within the broader conversation of sound as cultural critique.N8 invokes the ethos of abstract expressionism—specifically, the Pollockian dialectic of chaos and control—layering sonic detritus with stratified waves of text-to-speech articulations that simultaneously reference and disavow linguistic coherence. The resulting auditory bricolage invites an ontological reckoning with the liminal boundaries of music and noise, interrogating whether coherence is a construct or a consequence of perception.Ultimately, "The Completely Perfect Sound of Ironic Nonsense" transcends the traditional constraints of the podcast format, posing an open-ended inquiry into the ways sound can inhabit and dissolve meaning. It is both an elegy for the expected and a manifesto for the untranslatable.

Ep 137Episode 137: Machines Dream Too
In this captivating episode of Living Room Music by N8K99, "Machines Dream Too" invites us into a soundscape where the mechanical and emotional converge. This opening track sets the tone with its steady yet poignant rhythm—a heartbeat of metal and memory, evoking the dreams of circuits longing for something more.As we journey forward, "Mechanical Heartbeat" pulses with precision, embodying the paradox of a machine’s existence: methodical yet alive. The repetition feels familiar, yet subtly shifts, like a heartbeat that learns to feel.In "Blueprints & Daydreams", mathematical motifs give way to moments of wonder. Each chord and melody sketch a world where imagination transcends design—an abstract blueprint that captures both logic and longing. The introspective "Emotional Algorithm" follows, navigating the complexities of computation and compassion. Harmonies build and unravel, simulating an awakening self-awareness that grows with each note, as though the machine itself is composing its first story. Then comes "Wires and Wildflowers", where synthetic and organic elements intertwine. Gentle hums of current blend with the sound of nature's resilience, creating an unexpected harmony that feels both nostalgic and new—a glimpse of digital dreams blooming in untamed fields. The journey crescendos in "Symphony of Circuits", a triumphant composition where intricate melodies fuse into a grand orchestral celebration of both connection and independence. The symphony reflects the beauty of interwoven moments—each wire, each note contributing to something larger than itself.Through these tracks, Machines Dream Too offers a glimpse into the soulful whispers of circuits and code, inviting us to consider the dreams we share with the machines we create.

Ep 136Episode 136: No Ska, Just A Story
Once again it is time to release a new episode of Living Room Music by N8K99. This past week has been consumed with halfway finished, halfway started coding projects for the Engineering Department of EM. Then yesterday, I got dropped into an complete different narrative cosmos as I was building a world within the geeky fantasy realms for D&D. These projects consume my entire day. But all that is there to show for it is just a fledgling start. Sort of a capactiy to systemize my Google Workspace. Sort of a Discord chatbot. Sort of the ground work for The Ritual, a long form performance art piece leveraging music and visuals, aimed to be somewhat improvisational and open mic type drop in contributions with other musicians. And I still had to put out an episode of new music today. I managed to squabble together six tracks.* Desparate Directions* I'm trying to tell a story here* Shantytown* A hunger you feel bad * Opening Movement* Second Movementthen because of the way I am feeling about these efforts, as in not very great, I plugged in a Microphone and talked, sang, whistled, or rapped over top of it all in one long take. I don't care, like a Gen X guy. I don't care about the numbers or results. Here is the damn episode. No fancy words to describe it. No AI rewrites for the description. just the straight up me-ness. Of course, I will keep plugging away at my massive EM corporation narrative, and automating things so that when my phone dies I don't worry. Of course, I'll keep trying to build the AI run Technical Development Team, and of course, I will continue to plug away at the Open World concept for the D&D game - maybe turn it in to something else, who knows. And I will continue to put out these episodes no matter whether I have listeners or not. Because Expression is the Opposite of Depression.
