On today episode of Felony Friday polygraph expert Doug Williams joins John to share why he believe the polygraph to be a complete fraud of a technology. Doug administered polygraph examinations for the Oklahoma City Police department from 1972 - 79. In 1979 he began teaching people how to beat the polygraph. The feds didn't like this so they came after him and he was incarcerated in Federal prison for 2 years for "protesting the loudest and the longest against the polygraph." Today on Felony Friday Weldon Angelos joins John to share his incredible story! In the 90s Weldon launched a successful music career that brought him nationwide recognition. He founded the rap label Extravagant Records and was considered an “up and coming” entrepreneur in the industry. He wrote and produced songs with many acclaimed artists, including Snoop Dogg. Then in May and June 2002, Salt Lake City police set up a series of controlled marijuana buys from Weldon. All told a Confidential Informant purchased ½ pound of marijuana from Weldon on two separate occasions. According to the CI a firearm was present on Weldon during both buys. Weldon Angelos was sentenced to a mandatory 55 years in prison for selling a few pounds of marijuana while possessing a firearm – a sentence so extreme that his judge, unable to go below the mandatory minimum, called on the president to commute his sentence. Ross, of Silk Road fame, was convicted of money laundering, computer hacking, conspiracy to traffic fraudulent identity documents, and conspiracy to traffic narcotics by means of the internet in February 2015. He is currently serving a double life sentence plus forty years without the possibility of parole. Lyn has been working tirelessly, doing media and giving speeches to raise awareness of the injustice Ross experienced at the hands of federal agents, prosecutors and the judge. On today's episode Randy Kearse joins Felony Friday host John Odermatt. Randy is the founder and CEO of Reentry Strategies (RES) and the author of Changin' Your Game Plan: How I used incarceration as a stepping stone for SUCCESS. The concept for RES was created while he was serving a 15-year sentence in federal prison for a nonviolent drug offense. While serving his sentence Randy had a growing desire to live and experience a better quality of life, which he knew could not be obtained through the lifestyle that led him to prison. During his incarceration Randy discovered that if he wanted to change, then he'd have to take the responsibility to rehabilitate himself on his own, because rehabilitative programming in the FBOP was either outdated, not created by people who shared his life experiences, or non-existent. After years of internal soul searches, Randy was able to create, develop and implement a strategy that helped him reach the ultimate goal of change and successful transition from prison back to his family, community and society. Aaron is a professor at the University of Michigan, a criminal justice reform advocate, and a formerly incarcerated individual. Aaron spent several months in juvenile detention facilities during his youth and nearly ten years straight in adult prisons. Upon release from prison Aaron was able to leave the life of crime that he led as a young teenager behind. Aaron chose to pursue a future in higher education and community engagement to create safe neighborhoods and to assist the formerly incarcerated to become productive and law-abiding citizens.
