Your Nightly Prayer: Evening Prayers for Christian... - Faith That Blossoms Slowly

We live in a world that prizes speed — fast results, quick growth, instant answers. And if we're not careful, we bring that same frantic pace into our faith, rushing through Scripture, sprinting toward spiritual maturity, and wondering why we feel burned out instead of rooted. Tonight's episode is a gentle invitation to slow down and trust the process God is taking you through.

A maple tree begins as a seed barely the size of a thumbnail. You cannot rush it into becoming what it is meant to be — you can only nourish it and give it time. Faith works the same way. The deepest, most fruitful growth happens slowly, quietly, steadily — in the unhurried days of walking with Jesus, learning His character, and letting His pace become yours. Tonight, exhale. Settle in. Let the One who called you be the One who completes you, in His time and in His way.

Tonight's Scripture

"He who calls you is faithful, and he will do it." — 1 Thessalonians 5:24

Ponder This Tonight

You cannot rush what God is growing in you. Just as a maple tree takes decades to develop its full beauty, faith formed slowly is faith that lasts. Trying to accelerate the process often does more harm than good.

Slow growth is not a sign of falling behind. Matthew didn't get a fast track to faith — he walked with Jesus day after day, learning by living. The same unhurried process that shaped him is shaping you.

The pace of the world is not the pace of the Spirit. Speed produces burnout; steadiness produces fruit. God is not in a hurry, and He is not asking you to be either.

Reflection & Encouragement

If you've been feeling behind in your faith — like everyone else is growing faster, knowing more, doing more — let tonight be the moment you release that pressure. God is not grading you on speed. He is faithfully, patiently, tenderly doing a work in you that cannot be rushed and will not be left unfinished. Settle into His pace. Trust His process. The tree He is growing in you is going to be something beautiful.

Want More?

If tonight's prayer encouraged your heart, there's more waiting for you. Subscribe to the LifeAudio newsletter at LifeAudio.com for devotional prayers, reflections, and faith-filled content delivered straight to your inbox. The Crosswalk Devotional: A Daily Devotional Chris... - Be Honest with God about Your Mental Health

Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or mentally exhausted? Psalm 143:7–8 reminds us that we can be honest with God about our mental health, trusting Him to meet us in our struggles and guide us toward peace and healing. David’s prayer is raw and unfiltered—he doesn’t hide his pain, and neither should we. God isn’t asking for polished prayers; He invites us to come as we are, even when our thoughts feel heavy and our spirits feel weak.

Being honest with God is not a sign of weak faith—it’s actually evidence of trust. When we stop trying to hide or “fix” ourselves before approaching Him, we open the door for real connection and healing. God already knows what we’re carrying, and He cares deeply about every part of us—including our mental and emotional well-being. As we bring our struggles to Him, He often provides support through His Word, His presence, and even through people and resources He places in our lives.

Highlights

God welcomes honesty about mental health struggles

You don’t need to “clean up” your emotions before praying

Vulnerability with God strengthens your relationship with Him

Struggling mentally is not a sign of weak faith

God’s love interrupts cycles of fear and negative thinking

Healing may include guidance through people and practical support

God is present with you, even in your lowest moments

Do you want to listen ad-free?

When you join Crosswalk Plus, you gain access to exclusive, in-depth Bible study guides, devotionals, sound biblical advice, and daily encouragement from trusted pastors and authors—resources designed to strengthen your faith and equip you to live it out boldly. Your Daily Prayer - A Prayer to Notice Hidden Wonders

There is a wildflower growing somewhere along the path you walk every day — and there is a good chance you have never noticed it. Life moves quickly, and worry has a way of pulling our eyes inward and downward, fixing our gaze on everything that feels uncertain while the quiet wonders of God's creation bloom unnoticed all around us. But what if slowing down long enough to truly see them could change something in us?

Jesus didn't point His followers to a theological argument to ease their anxiety — He pointed them to a flower. Consider the lilies, He said. Look at how God has dressed the fields in a glory that surpasses even Solomon's finest robes, without any striving or toiling on their part. If the Creator tends to the wildflowers with such extravagant care, how much more does He tend to you? The world around us is full of these quiet sermons — a bird in flight, a rainstorm, a patch of flowers left untouched at the edge of a field — each one a whisper from the God who provides. Today is an invitation to slow down, lift your eyes, and let the hidden wonders of creation do what Jesus always intended them to do: draw your heart away from worry and back to trust in the One who holds it all.

Today's Bible Verse

"And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?" — Matthew 6:28-30, ESV

Ponder Today

Worry pulls our eyes inward, but wonder lifts them outward — when we pause to notice the beauty God has woven into creation, our anxiety begins to loosen its grip.

Jesus used the simplest things — wildflowers, birds, rainstorms — to teach the most profound spiritual truths about God's faithful provision and care.

The world around us is filled with quiet testimonies of God's love; the question is whether we are moving slowly enough to notice them.

If God clothes the grass of the field with such extravagant beauty, how much more does He care for the details of our lives — including the ones we are most anxious about?

Seeking the Kingdom of God first begins with small acts of attention — noticing, pausing, and allowing creation to preach its daily sermon to our worried hearts.

Today's Prayer

Lord of the flowers and birds, open my eyes to the hidden wonders You have placed all around me. Far too often I rush past the reminders of Your love and care, too consumed by worry to notice what You are saying through the world You created. Grant me eyes that truly see and ears that hear the testimony of Your creation. Awaken me again to the wonder of knowing You — my Creator, my Provider, and my Savior. In Your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Enjoy Today's Prayer?

If this episode encouraged you, we'd love to stay connected! Subscribe to the LifeAudio newsletter at LifeAudio.com for daily prayers, devotionals, and faith-filled content delivered straight to your inbox. Your Daily Bible Verse - Bonus: When God Heals Slowly: Faith, Suffering and Learning to Wait | The Unbound Podcast

If you have ever felt trapped by your body, your limits or a season you didn’t choose, this
conversation will meet you where you are. In this bonus episode from The Unbound Podcast, Dr. Tony Evans sits down with Dr. Dan Wallace, one of the world’s leading Greek scholars and a lifelong student of the New Testament.

Dan is best known for his work in textual criticism and for founding the Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts, which has helped digitize thousands of ancient biblical manuscripts
around the world. But this conversation centers on a chapter of his life that few people know.

After contracting encephalitis, Dan lost much of his strength, mobility and even his grasp of
Greek, the language he had devoted his life to studying and teaching. He shares what it was
like to relearn Greek from scratch, using the very textbook he had written himself, while
navigating years of uncertainty, pain and physical limitations.

This is not a technical discussion and not a polished testimony. It is an honest conversation
about chronic illness, suffering without clear answers and what faith looks like when progress is
slow and control is gone. Together, they talk about what Scripture actually teaches about
suffering, how endurance is formed over time and why God’s presence often shows up through
people rather than quick solutions.

If you are carrying pain, fatigue or unanswered questions, this episode offers clarity without
clichés and hope without pretending everything is fine.

Learn more about Dr. Dan Wallace:
The Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts
Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics

The Unbound Podcast is a weekly conversation with Dr. Tony Evans about what it means to live
free of what binds us, including fear, pressure, shame and the need to perform strength. Faith Over Fear - Bonus Episode: Trusting God When He Seems Silent and Faith Feels Weak

What do we do when God feels silent and life unfolds in ways we never expected?

In this honest conversation, Jennifer Slattery and Bible teacher Courtney Reissig explore what it looks like to hold onto faith in seasons of disappointment, disillusionment, and deep uncertainty. When prayers feel unanswered and circumstances challenge what we believe about God, it’s easy to question His goodness, His presence, and His plan.

Together, Jennifer and Courtney discuss how hardship can shake our expectations without undoing our faith—and how, like Peter, we can continue returning to Christ, trusting that He alone holds the words of eternal life.

Download this episodes free companion guide HERE. Scroll down for reflective questions.

Resource referenced: Someone to Believe In: Embracing the Savior Who Stays the Same When Everything Else Changes by Courtney Reissig

Scriptures Discussed

John 6:66–68 – When others walked away, Peter said, “Lord, to whom shall we go? March or Die - Can A Christian Kill In Combat? Black Hawk Down Ranger Jeff Struecker Responds | March Or Die

Can you be a Christian and kill the enemy in combat? Black Hawk Down Army Ranger Jeff Struecker has been asked this question a lot and in this episode of March or Die, he gives his answer to Jeremy

Jeff Struecker survived the 18-hour Battle of Mogadishu, outnumbered 100 to 1 with no air support, no armor, and no way out. He was 100% certain he would die that night. But instead of fear, he had supernatural peace. Thinking Christian: Clear Theology for a Confusing... - A King Like the Nations: The Easter Luncheon and the Theology Behind the Prayers

When faith leaders gathered at the White House for an Easter luncheon, the prayers offered weren't just politically awkward — they were theologically problematic. In this episode, Dr. James Spencer and Dr. Ashish Varma move past the headlines to examine the deeper issues: What happens when national identity absorbs Christian identity? What does the Bible actually say about kings, suffering, and God's purposes for nations? And what does faithful Christian engagement with political power look like?

Drawing on the Sermon on the Mount, the book of Esther, 1 Samuel, and the theology of Paul, Spencer and Varma assess the remarks of Paula White Cane, Franklin Graham, and Robert Jeffress — and explain why the problems run deeper than bad word choices. They also highlight what faithful public prayer can look like, pointing to Bishop Barron's remarks as a constructive contrast.

If you've been unsettled by the merger of Christian language and political power, this episode gives you the theological framework to understand why — and what to do with it.

Read James's Article on christianity.com (available 4/14).

Purchase Serpents and Doves: Christians, Politics, and the Art of Bearing Witness on Amazon.com

See Ashish's Articles on providence at the Barth Center.

Get early access and a bonus with a Patreon membership.

Subscribe to our YouTube channel

Stay Connected & Keep Growing!

If you enjoyed this episode, be sure to subscribe to Thinking Christian, so you never miss an insightful conversation!

#ThinkingChristian #Theology #ModernTheology #ChurchHistory #ChristianScholarship #FaithAndReason #RogerOlson #IntellectualFaith

Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Ben... - How to Care for Your Whole Self: Biblical and Brain-Based Health for Mind, Body, and Spirit

Episode Summary:

If you’ve been doing “all the right things” but still feel depleted, disconnected, or out of balance, this episode is for you. In honor of World Health Day, Your Hope-Filled Perspective takes a compassionate look at whole-person health—addressing the deep connection between mental wellness, physical vitality, and spiritual nourishment. Through faith-based insight and practical application, you’ll be encouraged to move beyond survival mode and toward sustainable, Christ-centered well-being that honors how God designed you to live. Today we’re marking World Health Day by talking about something that sounds simple but is anything but—How to Care for Your Whole Self: Biblical and Brain-Based Health for Mind, Body, and Spirit.

Quotables from the episode:

We often try to fix one area of our lives in isolation. We focus on our spiritual life but ignore our emotional health. Or we tend to our bodies while our thought life runs unchecked. But God designed us as integrated beings, and when one area is suffering, the others are usually affected too.

Some early mental and emotional signs include:

Increased irritability or emotional numbness

Difficulty concentrating or remembering

Racing or repetitive negative thoughts

Losing interest in things that once brought joy

Feeling overwhelmed by decisions that used to feel manageable

These aren’t character flaws—they’re signals from your nervous system.

And spiritually, those same signals often show up as disconnection. You might notice prayer feels harder, Scripture feels flat, or you’re more reactive than reflective. Sometimes we label that as a “faith problem,” when it’s actually exhaustion or emotional overload.

Or you find yourself pushing through fatigue, telling yourself, “I’ll rest later,” without realizing later never comes. Ignoring the body’s signals doesn’t make us more faithful—it often makes us more fragile.

Spiritually, we often confuse endurance with faithfulness. We forget that Jesus regularly withdrew to rest, pray, and recalibrate. If the Son of God needed rhythms of restoration, so do we.

When you notice the slide, the goal isn’t to fix everything—it’s to create safety and regulation.

Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is eat a balanced meal, drink water, or get some sleep. Sleep deprivation alone increases anxiety, depression, and emotional reactivity. Caring for your body is not separate from caring for your soul.

We don’t heal by striving—we heal by abiding.

Whole health isn’t about doing more—it’s about listening better. To your body. To your mind. To the Spirit of God within you.

Scripture References:

3 John 1:2 (NASB) “Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.”

Proverbs 4:20–23 (CSB) “My son, pay attention to my words; listen closely to my sayings. Don’t lose sight of them; keep them within your heart, for they are life to those who find them, and health to one’s whole body. Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life.”

Recommended Resources:

Reframing Rejection: How Looking Through a Different Lens Changes Everything By Jessica Van Roekel

Sacred Scars: Resting in God’s Promise That Your Past Is Not Wasted by Dr. Michelle Bengtson

The Hem of His Garment: Reaching Out To God When Pain Overwhelms by Dr. Michelle Bengtson

<a href="https

Crosswalk Talk: Celebrity Christian Interviews - Tommee Profitt on The Resurrection of a King and Reimagining Hymns

Tommee Profitt, award-winning composer and producer, has spent years making cinematic music for movie trailers, TV shows, and artists like NF and TobyMac. Now he is turning that same epic, orchestral sound toward something deeply personal. The Resurrection of a King is a 19-song album that reimagines beloved hymns as modern worship anthems, featuring voices like CeCe Winans, Crowder, Jenn Johnson, and Ben Fuller. Tommee opens up about why he felt urgently called to make this project, and what it felt like to score the moment Jesus walked out of the tomb.

Cinematic worship, the power of hymns, and a God the world desperately needs right now: Tommee shares why he believes the rich theology of classic hymns still has everything to say to a new generation, how a Friday night in a Michigan basement with his friend NF changed the trajectory of both their careers, and why after years of working in the mainstream music world, this album feels like a full-circle moment he did not see coming but could not ignore.

Highlights

How The Birth of a King Christmas album led to the idea for an Easter equivalent

What cinematic sound means and why orchestral weight changes the way we experience worship

What we lose when the church stops singing hymns and why their theology still matters

The story of how a casual Friday night with NF led to a record deal and a career-defining moment

The first time he heard his music in a Will Smith movie trailer and what that moment meant

How 5 million monthly Spotify streams reflect a life built on making music that is emotional and powerful

Why Resurrection of a King marks a full-circle shift back to his roots as a worship leader

Resources / Links / CTA

Tommee Profitt website: https://www.tommeeprofitt.com

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tommeeprofitt

Album: The Resurrection of a King

Previous album: The Birth of a King

Follow, share, and explore more of Crosswalk Talk

Follow, share, and subscribe for more faith-driven conversations on Lifeaudio

Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

Sometimes God is the only thing standing between you and what's closing in.

We also explore the surprising tension in David's prayer — asking God not to destroy his enemies outright, but to scatter them as living witnesses of His power, while still crying out for ultimate justice. And through it all, the refrain that carries the whole psalm: as for me, I will sing.

Come ready to name what's surrounding you, find refuge in the God who is your stronghold even when your "tent" feels paper-thin, and make the bold, faith-filled decision to sing His praises before your heart fully catches up — because that's exactly what David did.

Discover More:

Explore additional episodes of Praying Christian Women, Mindful Christian Prayers, and other Christian podcasts at Lifeaudio.com

Check out our new podcast, Christian True-Crime Junkies!, on Apple, Spotify, or anywhere you listen to podcasts!

Connect with Us:

Stay updated and engage with our community:

On Substack @PrayingChristianWomen

On Facebook @PrayingChristianWomen

On Instagram @PrayingChristianWomen

On YouTube: @PrayingChristianWomen

Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising op

Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic with Jon Seid... - Drunk Poets Society: Poet Amy Leigh Wicks on How Alcohol Stole More Than It Ever Delivered

“Alcohol is not a kind or fair lover.”

That’s how Amy Leigh Wicks describes the relationship that quietly shaped her life for years—one that didn’t always look chaotic from the outside, but was slowly taking more than it ever gave.

Amy is a poet, professor, actor, and mom. But long before the PhD, the published poetry books, and the life she has now, there was a different story unfolding beneath the surface. One marked not by obvious addiction, but by a growing pattern she couldn’t fully explain—blackouts that “just happened,” nights that blurred together, and a relationship with alcohol that felt normal… until it wasn’t.

In this conversation, Amy shares how alcohol crept into her life—not as rebellion, but as something that promised more. More life. More experience. More feeling. And for a while, it seemed to deliver. But over time, that “more” began to cost her clarity, presence, and ultimately, herself.

That realization didn't come after a rock bottom. Instead, it came after a long period of sobriety. Years of it, in fact, where she gave up drinking to prove something—only to find that even while not imbibing alcohol still held a powerful place in her thoughts. That’s when the deeper question surfaced: not “how long can I go without drinking?” but “what kind of relationship is this, really?”

What follows is a story not just about sobriety, but about identity. About learning to sit in discomfort instead of numbing it. About discovering that what feels like loss at first can actually be the doorway to a fuller, more integrated life. And ultimately, about a God who meets us not just in our sin, but in our pain, our confusion, and the places we don’t yet understand.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your relationship with something—alcohol or otherwise—is quietly shaping more of your life than you realize, this episode will resonate with you.

Looking for a one-stop recovery resource? Untangling Prayer with Rachel Wojo - How to Pray When Your Mind Won't Stop Racing

You're lying in bed, and your brain will not stop. The to-do list. The what-ifs. The thing you said yesterday that you keep replaying. You want to pray, but you can't even get a full sentence out before your mind is somewhere else. If that's you, this episode is for you.

In this episode, Rachel unpacks 2 Corinthians 10:5 and what it actually means to take every thought captive. She shares the real story of a racing mind at 4 am and how handing God the parking garage, the weather, and the drive home became the prayer she didn’t know she needed.

You’ll discover:
• Why a racing mind doesn’t mean a disqualified heart
• What Paul meant by “taking thoughts captive” and how to do it at 4 am
• How to turn racing thoughts into actual prayer instead of fighting them
• Why the spin might be a spiritual battle, not a personal flaw

If your brain runs laps every time you try to be still with God, this episode will remind you: He’s not waiting for perfect focus. He’s waiting for you to hand it over.

Resources Mentioned:
• Praying the Promises of God Prayer Journal: promisesprayerjournal.com

Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

The Built Different Podcast with Dr. Zach Clinton - Built for Battle: What SEAL Team 6 Teaches About Leadership, Identity, & Faith, Ep. 296

In this powerful and deeply insightful conversation, Drs. Zach & Tim Clinton sit down with Bradley Geary - former Tactical Troop Commander for SEAL Team 6 and Commanding Officer of BUD/S - to unpack what it truly means to lead, endure, and find your identity beyond performance. Brad shares hard-earned lessons from the battlefield and the training ground, offering a rare look into the mindset required to operate at the highest level of discipline, resilience, and sacrifice. But more than that, this conversation goes beyond elite performance as it gets to the heart of who we are. They talk about the power of brotherhood and team, why isolation is one of the most dangerous places a person can live, and how true leadership is rooted in selflessness, not status. Bradley also opens up about the dark realities of combat, the emotional and spiritual weight it carries, and why those experiences, while costly, can also shape purpose and perspective. Perhaps most compelling is the growing movement of revival happening within the SEAL teams, and how many are beginning to wrestle with a deeper truth: your identity is not found in what you do, but in who God says you are. This episode is for leaders, competitors, and anyone striving for excellence, while trying to stay grounded in what matters most.

Links:
Find Out More About Brad Geary: www.thekeynoteagency.com
Watch Brad on The Shawn Ryan Show: youtube.com/watch?v=qm947uFzrJw
Watch Brad on The Resilient Show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79dPkX02Xow
Follow Brad on Social Media: https://www.instagram.com/bradleyandamy/
Paralyzed by Pressure? The Greg Laurie Show - The True Love Story Behind Jesus Revolution | Encore Greg & Cathe Laurie Open Up

What really happened behind the scenes of Jesus Revolution? In this unforgettable episode of The Greg Laurie Podcast, Pastor Greg sits down with his wife, Cathe Laurie, to share the raw, unfiltered story of their journey from rebellious teens to partners in faith, love, and ministry.

Together, Greg and Cathe pull back the curtain on the “Hollywood” version of their romance, revealing what the movie got right (and what it didn’t). With warmth and humor, they recount their first real meeting—not at a high school fence, but in a humble California coffeehouse Bible study. As they reminisce about young love, awkward first proposals, and the challenges of starting a family with little experience, listeners get a front-row seat to the genuine, grace-filled adventure that has sustained them for over 50 years.

Cathe shares her powerful spiritual awakening amidst the drug culture of Southeast Asia—a moment that changed the direction of her life. The couple also digs deep into common relationship myths, why lasting marriages require more than cultural “trial runs,” and the sacred call to support one another through all of life’s seasons.

If you were moved by Jesus Revolution or are searching for real wisdom about love, commitment, and God’s plan for your future, this episode is for you.

Subscribe for more true stories, biblical perspective, and authentic conversations that will strengthen your faith and inspire your relationships!

Want more from Greg Laurie? Christian Parent, Crazy World - When Faith Meets College: Finding Allies for Your Kids’ Education (w/ Dr. Steven Hall) - Ep. 180

How Do We Prepare Our Kids’ Faith for Secular College? Start Here.

Few things strike fear in the heart of Christian parents like sending a child to a secular university and wondering, “Will their faith survive?” Recent research shows nearly two-thirds of young adults raised in the church disengage from faith or Christian community after leaving home—a heartbreaking statistic for families who have labored in love and prayer for nearly two decades.

In this episode, Catherine sits down with Dr. Steven Hall, a respected professor at Lee University with decades of experience in pastoral ministry, counseling, and spiritual formation. Dr. Hall brings not only academic insight but a father’s hard-won wisdom—his own daughter lost her faith at a secular arts high school, plunging his family into a prodigal journey that every Christian parent fears.

Key Insights and Takeaways:

It Can Happen to Any Family: Dr. Hall shares with powerful honesty how, despite prayerful and intentional parenting—including homeschooling and Christian education—his daughter’s faith was overturned in just two weeks at a new school. “We put her in the school, and two weeks later, they stole her,” he recalls, highlighting how the environment and sense of belonging can reshape beliefs almost overnight.

The Power of Allies: Both Dr. Hall and Catherine underscore the vital importance of allies: teachers, mentors, counselors, and Christian communities who support and reinforce the faith and values parents instill. “You need an ally in your parenting. Pray for those allies…steward those relationships well,” Dr. Hall urges.

Formation Over Information: As children grow, the need to belong and to form identity intensifies—especially in the teen and college years. Dr. Hall explains, “If you have an environment where your child believes they can belong and retain their faith, you are preparing good ‘soul soil’ for lasting fruit.”

Consistent Adequacy—Not Perfection: Parents often carry guilt over prodigal seasons, but Dr. Hall and Catherine offer hope: even God, the perfect parent, had children who chose rebellion. “You don’t have to be exceptional—just consistently adequate,” Dr. Hall reassures, stressing faithfulness over perfection.

Practical Soul-Forming Rhythms: Sabbath, prayer, fasting, and engaging in faith routines as a family are crucial. “We’re not just training for faith, we’re shaping a way of life,” says Dr. Hall.

There Is Good News: Encouraging research from Barna now shows a rise in personal commitment to Jesus and Bible reading among Gen Z and Millennials. The hunger for authentic, lived faith is growing—and parents can help nurture that by living and modeling genuine discipleship.

Anecdotes & Notable Quotes:

“If you want to protect your child from the negative influences of the world, when they're about seven, put them in a barrel and feed them through the knothole. At fourteen, plug the knothole. There's no foolproof method!”—Dr. Hall (quoting Mark Twain)

“God is not looking for extraordinary, perfect parents. He’s looking for consistency. Trust the creature to the Creator.”

About the Guest:
Dr. Steven Hall is Associate Professor of Pastoral Ministry at Lee University, with a doctorate in Spiritual Formation and decades serving as a Church of God minister, clinical pastoral counselor, and founder of Ministry Oasis—a resource dedicated to the soul health of ministry families.

Are you praying for allies to join you in shepherding your child’s soul? Who are the people and communities partnering with you for the spiritual health of your

How to Study the Bible - Bible Study Made Simple - "I Believe, Help My Unbelief" What We Learn from This Honest Prayer | Mark 9

Have you ever found yourself saying, I want to believe — I really do — but there's this part of me that just... doesn't? That is exactly where we land in Mark chapter 9 today, and friend, you are in good company.

We're wrapping up our mini-series on confusion to clarity, and this week we're sitting with one of the most honest prayers in all of Scripture — just six words: I do believe. Help my unbelief. It comes from a desperate dad who has been fighting for his son, who tried everything, even coming to Jesus's disciples, and still walked away empty-handed. And yet, in that moment of raw honesty with Jesus, healing happens anyway.

Here's what I love about this story: the man's unbelief did not stop Jesus from acting. Jesus doesn't need our perfect faith. He needs our whole heart — the good stuff and the doubt, the confidence and the fear. That's what wholehearted really means.

We also talk about why the disciples couldn't drive out the spirit — and what Jesus's answer ("this kind only comes out by prayer") tells us about the interior life Jesus is calling us to. Spoiler: our spiritual power doesn't come from doing more. It comes from being with our Heavenly Father.

And we close out the chapter with Jesus flipping the script on greatness — anyone who wants to be first must be last and servant of all. Because the way of Jesus isn't power. It's humility. It's vulnerability.
