S1 Ep 58How Would You Arrive At A Paella Stand
EIt's a record breaking week for Lexx Education. The week with the giddiest boy, the worst soundscape, the least science and the triumphant return of paella to the business of science. It’s physics. It’s a slow trudge through an olivey swamp of physics. To be fair, a lot of the blame for this week's hellscape goes to Ron who is distracted first by olives and then by alcohol and never by science. Laura doesn't help, but she is not the worst offender for once.If you like the podcast please consider supporting it at patreon.com/lexxeducation and see our live show at this year's London Podcast Festival in September. The podcast Laura refers to is Fall of Civilisations Podcast, specifically the episode about Carthage. https://fallofcivilizationspodcast.com/

S1 Ep 57Too Many Mixy Medicines
EIt’s Lexx Education time! This week the science siblings from Somerset take on the rate of reaction in chemistry. They begin though with Laura’s hangover and again, Ron tries to convince Laura of the importance of being hydrated.Tom is in the building for this Same Room Episode and it adds a level of supervision and judgement that Laura just can’t cope with. They look at the things that affect the rate of reactions in chemicals and debate strongly whether or not the factory is important. It's the last same room episode for a while as Ron leaves from his visit and the level of "too much time spent together" can only decrease from here.To support the podcast and help Laura and Ron keep it going join the patreon.com/lexxeducationTo see Lexx Education live in 2023 come and see us at the London Podcast Festival. https://www.kingsplace.co.uk/whats-on/comedy/lexx-education/

S1 Ep 56Lexx Boggle
ELexx Education! The comedy science podcast from comedian Laura Lexx and her science fanatic brother Ron!WAIT - are you hear having heard last week’s episode with Dara O’Briain talking space and now you want more? We’re so glad to have you, but, this podcast is experienced best from episode 1 and working through… so we suggest you pop back to the start and then crack on and we’ll meet you back here in a few days. We know you’ll binge it, you won’t be able to resist.Anyway… this week is biology, so you’re ready for Laura and Ron to get super cosy and be happy talking biology? WRONG… this is maths biology and they are more furious with each other than they’ve ever been. EVER. So furious that they spend the vast majority of the podcast not really doing the podcast… also Laura gets super serious about parenting but that’s short lived and it’s mainly just silly. For the extra tickets to the Cheerful Earful Podcast festival show, go here: https://www.designmynight.com/london/pubs/balham/the-bedford/cheerful-earful-podcast-festival-day-6?t=ticketsFor tickets to our London Podcast Festival show, go here: https://www.kingsplace.co.uk/whats-on/comedy/lexx-education/To support the show on patreon and help keep it ad free, go here: www.patreon.com/lexxeducation

S1 Ep 55Dara O'Briain Teaches Space Physics: Squishing and Clumping
EDara O’Briain is our first ever special guest - here to help us celebrate a whole year of Lexx Education and graduate us into our second year. International superstar Dara O’Briain (Stargazing Live, Infinite Monkey Cage, Dara O’Briain Meets Stephen Hawking) tells the science siblings all about his passion: space. Dara turns his masterful skills to the job of trying to get Laura and Ron to care about physics by explaining that all the stuff that currently makes them livid about physics is just the building blocks to loving it in the future. We discuss planets - what is a planet? Is the moon a planet? How does the moon control the tides? Is everything really made of dust? What is going on in the sun? What are black holes and where are you if you’re in one?To support the podcast, watch the video of this episode (including bonus fifteen minute extra chat) go to patreon.com/lexxeducation and pledge £3 a month. For tickets to the London Podcast Festival on 16th September, go here: https://www.kingsplace.co.uk/whats-on/comedy/lexx-education/

S1 Ep 54The Second Paella Calculation
EHello and welcome to another episode of Lexx Education, the comedy science podcast where comedian Laura Lexx tries to learn GCSE science from her non-comedian brother Ron. After a quick discussion of intestinal health, followed by Ron’s water debacle, it’s back to scalas and vectors today. Ron enlists the help of paella and festivals to try and get Laura to engage with the concept of distance and displacement. We’re so sorry to put you through this again but there you go: it has to happen. Ron and Laura are in the same room for THE WHOLE EPISODE so enjoy some giddiness… and some heat.Tickets to our show at The London Podcast Festival here: https://shop.kingsplace.co.uk/29528/29531To support the podcast by becoming a patron please go to: https://www.patreon.com/lexxeducation

S1 Ep 53A Lot of Plants are Outside
EHello and welcome to another episode of Lexx Education! The comedy science podcast where two siblings bicker vociferously over science that should have been learned 20 years ago. This week they discuss endothermic/exothermic reactions, energy changes, biogenetics, e = mc squared. In amongst a lot of marshmallows and twiglets. For tickets to Lexx Education live in 2023 go tohttps://www.designmynight.com/london/pubs/balham/the-bedford/cheerful-earful-podcast-festival-day-6 to see the 5th November show.https://shop.kingsplace.co.uk/29528/29531 to see the 16th September show.To support Laura and Ron in their endeavour to make the podcast, go to patreon.com/lexxeducation and pledge £3 to get extra content and help them afford to keep making it.See you next week!

S1 Ep 52Music to my Anus
EHello and welcome to Lexx Education, the comedy science podcast where comedian Laura Lexx this week vehemently hates hydrating. She’s especially distracted, and if it’s the science you’re interested in, you can skip a whole healthy chunk before they finally begin today’s subject which is bioenergetics: the study of energy within biology. Actually, probably don’t bother because before you can blink, they are discussing the long since passed Coronation of King Charles III. It features an improvised Christian rock song and then goes on to some Chinese takeaway discourse chat… so, a pretty weird episode in all.In the quiz Ron gets the sads and Laura tries to cheer him up by pretending to eat all her little correct dings. It might be the most worried about them you get.

S1 Ep 51Imagine if a Bumble Bee Was Riding a Bike
ELive from the hutch come Laura and Ron: two hutch based comedians making a hutch based podcast for you, our beloved listeners. This week Laura makes a declaration to focus really hard on physics and within seconds has mentioned Piglet’s Big Movie and the science siblings from Somerset are chatting absolute nonsense about the development of various civilisations. Classic stuff. It’s not their most focused episode, but they do seem to be getting on pretty well. There’s some kangaroo chat, some Columbus chat, a brief insight into how lovely the podcast could be if it was about something Laura liked. Then they get on to elasticity and Laura wanders off.To support Laura and Ron, and in exchange get peace of mind that you’re nice, and access to all of our Lexxtra Curricular Activities (including last Friday’s pop quiz) go to patreon.com/lexxeducation and pledge £3 per month.

S1 Ep 50Dead Air
EHello and welcome to another episode of Lexx Education: the comedy science podcast where comedian Laura Lexx tries to learn science from her normal brother Ron.This week we start with a bit of funeral procession etiquette, during which Ron finds it ridiculous how Laura functions in the world. We then get back to electrolysis and specifically the electrolysis of molten ionic compounds. There's an element of hysteria about trying to define a metal - soemthing Ron swears they have covered ad nauseum and Laura swears is just nauseum. Then the periodic table is a sandcastle and nobody really knows why. Anyway, enjoy!

S1 Ep 49Moo Cow Pox
EThe final instalment of the post Eggathon season of Lexx Education. Episode 49 comes in with some beautiful news, and then scampers into an eggy back alley. We cover antibiotics and double check if we remember Alexander Fleming and the discovery of penicillin for the one millionth time. No sandwiches were harmed in the making of this podcast. We look at the effect of antibiotics on the world. Then we cover painkillers. Laura is very distracted and on because we recorded the video for this ep as well. We talk a lot about this being a video episode but have since changed our minds about this and it won't be a video episode.Ron is not prepared for the second half, Laura chastises him. They blow through clinical trials not giving it much thought because it was quite boring. Oh and we mention Tim Minchin - Storm a lot. But mainly, let's face it, we're all still glowing from the initial announcement. To support Laura and Ron, please go to www.patreon.com/lexxeducation and chuck us £3 a month to go towards the costs of running the podcast.

S1 Ep 48Billy Bags are Equal to Scum Puckets
EPlease ignore Ron's best attempts to get you to stop loving the podcast.Hello and welcome to another episode of Lexx Education. The pendulum swings back to Physics today but mercifully THE PENDULUM IS GONE. It’s work and energy transfers today. The episode today has a sort of “wet break” energy. It’s low key. Less screaming than usual but the apathy… oh boy the apathy! You could cut that apathy with a butter knife! The gel pens never stop rattling. There’s the wonderful soundscape of Maki being fed dinner in the middle of the episode. Featuring Husband of the Podcast Tom. We cover spring constants. We then get extremely egg giddy in the quiz - things get very silly.

S1 Ep 47Dog Tooth Fairy
EHello and welcome to yet another episode of Lexx Education. The comedy science podcast where a comedian randomly decides with her brother to try and conquer GCSE science for comedic reasons no-one is entirely sure of.After a brief interlude where Laura and Ron plan their diaries and organise a visit from Ron to Laura, they finally get on with the podcast. This week Laura and Ron cover electrolysis, a weird lesson where Ron is only marginally more attentive than Laura but this spurs Laura on to focus and fill the focus gap. Current breaks Laura’s head, or fixes it, or... well, it doesn't go in, let's put it that way.Thank you for listening - don't forget to like and subscribe to the podcast. And if you want an extra episode every month plus extra fun things like the eggathon then sign up at patreon.com/lexxeducation.

S1 Ep 46Doesn't Involve Sticks
EIt's Lexx Ed time! Just a quick warning: this episode contains information about a certain Christmas jolly figure that is not suitable for younger ears who may still have magic alive in their hearts and minds.Other than that this week we are studying cells, antigens and antibodies - how are we still studying these? A long detour through the teletubbies. We cover Lymph node libraries, with interruptions from Gnocchi in the introduction and interruptions from Maki in the actual episode. The podcast about the HIV crisis Laura mentions is called Fiasco, by Leon Neyfakh and can be found here: https://luminarypodcasts.com/listen/leon-neyfakh/fiasco/8607a31a-cab7-4c9f-9df8-b6110ba93b52?country=US

S1 Ep 45A Very Potato Salad Kind of Person
EHello and welcome to the latest offering from Lexx Education. It's meant to be a comedy science podcast but today it's more like a horrible endless cycle of the same bullshit interrupted consistently by the internet being a twat.Plagued by technical difficulties and the sad ghost of horribly covered topics Laura and Ron wage war against resultant forces for what feels like the 100th time. Ron is in Vienna. We discussed the centre of gravity of objects. Laura is obsessed with making Ron eat a biscuit. To support the podcast and cheer Laura and Ron up, go to patreon.com/lexxeducation

S1 Ep 44Parmahootical
EThe science siblings from Somerset discuss soluble salts. That’s a lot of acids. There’s a good and reasonable high amount of giddiness. They try putting the contents of chemistry to music to see if that helps with the learning, the success is… well, we’ll leave that for you to judge. Ron is in a grump and won't tell Laura what the problem is, which goes down badly.Laura is in a Travelodge recording this episode so has gone a little stir crazy. We have a quick chat about all the acids she puts on her face without knowing at all what they are. There’s the faint whiff of a practical experiment and then it dies a death. They cover the PH scale, acids and alkalis and lots and lots of karaoke. Then in the quiz, they argue over whether or not Laura is learning science or simply reading science back out of a book. The quiz REALLY falls apart. Like REALLY falls apart. To support the podcast AND get access to the Eggathon 2023 and all our bonus monthly Lexxtra Curricular Activities please go and sign up at patreon.com/lexxeducation

S1 Ep 43Eggatha Christie
EHey Lab and Fab Rats! Happy Easter to all those enjoying for religious, chocolate, or day off reasons! We hope you've had a spectacular time, you've smoothed all the egg tinfoil out nice and flat with your thumbnails and now you're ready to mow the lawn to the sweet sweet sounds of Lexx Education. This week Laura and Ron focus on eggs, but each in a slightly different way. We have to be honest - it's not our most cohesive episode, but since when did we ever aim for that? Two podcasts in one! What more could you ask for?Laura does her Egg hunt which involves interesting nests and where to find them. Ron looks at the 5 best eggs. These are different things but boy howdy are there eggs, eggs, eggs!Enjoy our 2023 Lexx/Leggs Education/Eggsucation Easter Special! All the best from the science siblings x

S1 Ep 42April Cool's Day
EHello and welcome to another episode of the smash hit podcast Lexx Education - where comedian Laura Lexx works her way through the GCSE science syllabus with help from her younger brother non-comedian Ron.This week they are dealing with fall out from The Big Tricko; Laura is reeling from Ron’s betrayal and doesn’t know how to cope with what’s real and what’s false in the Lexx Education Universe. They get back on the bacteria train, looking at bacterial diseases and infections. But this time the information is accurate. Instead of sticks and knives the bacteria now have cloaks. I mean… how is Laura supposed to know what is true and what is lies? She tries valiantly to research as she goes along but soon gets bored of that and goes back to blindly trusting Ron the trickster. We won’t lie, the fungal infections chat gets graphic - you will never think about thrush in the same way ever again. Just to really make you wonder what the hell you’re listening to, they round out the quiz singing Christmas songs (different songs, but at the same time - in March).Don't miss our brand new patron only episode this Friday, where Ron and Laura's Dad "Agony Dad" pops by to help with your domestic and emotional problems. Expect fences plumbing and broken hearts to be treated equally disdainfully.

S1 Ep 41Don’t Lick Mud
EIt’s biology this week, and Ron is teaching Laura all about bacteria and antibiotics. The Somerset science siblings are coming to you from inside a pillow fort in Brussels. There’s no notepad and Laura and Ron are in the same room… chaos ingredients ASSEMBLED.We recover vesicles and look at bacteria and how they attack cells. In trying to discuss convergent evolution they wind up discussing whether or not dolphins are attractive. Then we're in to antibiotics and antigens and other exciting ways that the body fights off problems. Or are we?

S1 Ep 40A Ratatouille of Rotten Courgettes
EGird your loins, it's down 2.Welcome to the comedy science podcast that leans heavily on the comedy as it wriggles away from the hideousness of science. This week we have a lot to try and get through...Vector and Scaler - Ron tries to use a metaphor that Laura should understand and discusses driving from Brighton to Taunton to try to get Laura to understand. It makes things much much worse. Like smearing mud all over your magnifying glass to try and get it to help you see more details. We revisit forces and that goes exactly as well as you’d imagine. Some proper classic sibling science squabbles. But then they make up and really lose it over Laura’s inability to speak whilst thinking about fake horses.Be warned, this is going to make you want to watch Despicable Me due to the immense use of the word Vector a la Vector. If you want to join the elite Lab Rats, AKA the Fab Rats and get access to all the fabulous Lexxtra Curricular activities, then just pop to patreon.com/lexxeducation and sign up.

S1 Ep 39Cheese Pipe of a Man
EHello and welcome to Lexx Education, the comedy science podcast where Somerset science siblings Laura and Ron embark on the GCSE science curriculum together with Ron in the teaching seat and Laura hastily trying to learn...This week Laura and Ron start off with a weird energy, then there's a weird energy in the middle and a weird energy at the end. It was after all a Friday afternoon recording. Was last week a revision episode? We'll never know. There's some festival chat, some cheese poo talk, lots of poo talk actually. Then we get to the science, the boring bit, and we cover early human metal production and their reactions with Carbon. Big confusion over why amino acids are seesaws. Are amino acids seesaws?Acids, alkalis and bases. A lot of H+ and salts and metal extraction and stuff. All the big headlines. Enjoy!

S1 Ep 38Throw Him In The Scuppers
EHello and welcome to another episode of Lexx Education! The comedy/science podcast where comedian Laura Lexx tries to learn science from her non-comedian younger brother Ron.This week is biology week... a happy where week where usually all is well and good with the world and to make things even happier and safer Laura has bought 30 gel pens. This week the science siblings get stuck in to viral diseases, pathogens and stuff. Laura gets very hung up for a long time on specifically what a pathogen is, like what physically is it BUT WHAT IS IT?We look at MRNA and then with more specificity at measles, HIV and the Tobacco Mosaic Virus. Then we finish the episode with Ron telling a tale of some childhood rage. Enjoy!

S1 Ep 37The Whole World is Wibblin Things
EThis week it's radioactivity and Laura and Ron get on reasonably well through all of it! A fun episode despite a brief crisis moment from Laura when she realises she does a niche podcast with her brother that her dad doesn't want to be on, but Ron quickly snaps her out of it.Featuring the start of a new game where we encourage you the listener to guess what the other options for an episode title were... obviously we went with "The Whole World is Wibblin Things" but see if you can guess what the three other options were... tweet us, or comment on our instagram or Facebook and let us know what you think we might have also been tempted by as an episode title. But most of all, sit back, relax, enjoy the Patreon shout outs and have fun. There will be a brand new extra episode out this Friday, where Laura is in DetentRon for failing to understand what glass is. What is glass? Join up for £3 per month at patreon.com/lexxeducation

S1 Ep 36Bog On For Woodlice
ELaura is sick and Ron has a fat tongue. Those are the headlines. Who even knows or cares what the actual science in the episode was at this point? Something about woodlice. Don't know. Enjoy!Anyway, here are the Big Bad Banksia Men: https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/344455071478209130/ Laura’s fact about pool comes from the Etymologicon by Mark Forsyth: https://www.waterstones.com/book/the-etymologicon/mark-forsyth/9781785781704

S1 Ep 35A Very Pregnant Love Island
EHappy Valentines Day Lab Rats! we wish you joy and love and expressions of admiration that you're comfortable with. Ron says he hopes no one tries to touch you today. Laura says KISSES GALORE.Anyway, today is the Valentines Special and Laura and Ron are having a go at pitching the animals they think would make the best contestants on a series of Love Island. They're pitching dicks, they're pitching muscles, they're pitching polyamory, dressing up and sneaking around. they're pitching good dads and good mums and animals that have no sex. The only snag is that for large portions of the show they forget what they're meant to be doing and start pitching the animals that would best make babies which isn't the EXACT point of Love Island but it's not bad...Once you've listened it's over to you to decide which animal pairing you think makes the best couple on Lexx Education's Animal Love Island...

S1 Ep 34Nutwood
EHello and welcome to another episode of Lexx Education, the smash hit comedy science podcast where comedian Laura Lexx tries to learn science from her normal brother Ron.This week we look at cancer, but it isn't the most terrifying thing in the episode as Ron brings up his deepest darkest fear - Raggety. No, no it's not normal. Enjoy! Our patreon is now live and has a whole Geography lesson in it ready for your enjoyment. Go to patreon.com/lexxeducation to support the podcast with £3 a month.

S1 Ep 33The Book of Moron
EHello and welcome to another episode of Lexx Education. The comedy science podcast absolutely filled with tangents, similes and idiots. Welcome to the club. This week it’s a revision episode, covering some old familiar to some but brand new to Laura ground, and gearing up to do radiation. the silly bus asks us to do a quick double back on what atoms areLaura is scared radiation is trickos. Ron is tired and eating a lot of cheese. We cover standard form again.Don't forget to sign up to patreon.com/lexxeducation to receive our first geography lesson this Friday!

S1 Ep 32Ink on a Beetles Feet
EEpisode 32 of Lexx Education and we're staring down the barrel of chemistry week. We’re looking at how the molecular and atomic behaviour of the element affects what we see happening to the substance en masse. In a moment where it almost sounds like Ron’s heart falls out of his bumhole, Laura can’t even correctly name the Periodic Table. That’s a low point, but shrouded in a happy moment where the science siblings are actually having a very lovely time.Feel the euphoria in Ron when Laura retains a good amount of information about how what group that elements are in can tell you about how they will behave in difficult circumstances. They cover different functional groups and why they are grouped together. Plus the return of Laura’s favourite sound effect. It's also, we think, the worst quiz we've ever done. Absolute apathy. But in a fun way.We drop the news about our new Patreon service in this episode! If you would like to contribute £3 a month to the running of the podcast and in exchange receive an extra episode a month of Lexxtra Curricular Activities then shoot over to patreon.com/lexxeducation and join the gang there! First episode, a Geography Lesson all about Mexico will land in your ears on 3rd February 2023. Woohoo sound effect!

S1 Ep 31She’s Making a Shit Book of Science
EHello and welcome to another episode of Lexx Education! The comedy science podcast where comedian Laura Lexx tries to learn science from her real life brother Ron.Technically, the science siblings are still on their holidays, so the intro and outro are from the brief pause in time on the 16th December. You remember that day? The day of the 90 minutes redo episode and multiple intros? They are still frozen in time there and then, but it is now somehow the future. But! From next week they are back in the future, or present as you call it.They are back to beautiful safe squashy biology this week, and having a ball with some more plant biology: organ systems of the plant and what not. You can't go wrong with a lovely cosy biology can you?

S1 Ep 30Honking for Honks
EHello! Welcome to another episode of Lexx Education! The comedy science podcast where comedian Laura Lexx tries to learn science from her real life brother Ron! You might have heard us on Just Films n That, or on Loremen, or you might have just chanced across this podcast and decided to bravely have a listen. Either way, thanks for coming: hello, and we're happy to have you. This week it's physics and we're looking at changes of state and specific latent heat.Capital E and some equation stuff is back, even though Laura has really wanted to try and get into this episode so they could have a good physics lesson for once.Ron explains that science is rarely portmanteaus, and Laura struggles to keep up with the note taking speed. It’s an interesting episode because Laura really does seem to do her best to try hard, but you can almost hear the click where her brain switches off when she gets overwhelmed. It’s almost one of our most dismally bleak episodes for the sheer lack of hope coming off both of them. It’s just sadness. When she finally does get to the answer, she’s not even entirely sure what they’ve worked out. It’s very sad to hear.Ron writes a cute little tune to try and work out what ten to the power five is. It’s a new feature they are thinking of adding on the regular called Ron’s Breakdown. Ten to the power ten really screws up both of them for a while and they end up in a sort of fever dream of multiples of ten… It’s got a real bottle episode vibe this one.If you like the podcast please subscribe so you never miss an episode, and leave us a little review. we'll be ever so grateful.

S1 Ep 29Classic TV Hag (The Moles Redo Special)
EWell, Happy New Year everybody and you might be noticing that this episode is a strong length. It's long. It's very long. It's also, the first episode where we've had to resit the lesson due to a technical issue. So it should have been short right? Because we've already done it once? Classic wrong. No.Ron tries to sneak in some higher tier stuff and it goes down like a tonne of bricks all puking cold sick. It's like a merry go round of fury and numbers that never seems to end.Technically, they're talking moles. But... I mean you have to experience it to understand. Happy New Year everyone... we're starting with a bang!

S1 Ep 28How To Make A Reindeer Fly: You Need A Rat Carpet
EThe science siblings are still on their Christmas break, and so this week, rather than wading through the GCSE science curriculum they are instead trying to work out what evolutionary pressures a small reindeer population would need in order to become airborne.First, Ron talks Laura through the basics of evolution and how it all works. Then, they get to work in designing an island on which, given a few millenia, reindeer might slowly become flying creatures. Sit back, enjoy and try not to take it too seriously.Merry Christmas everyone!

S1 Ep 27The Science of Home Alone: Hot Knobs
EWell that's it! We are almost there, almost at Christmas holiday time. But, what last day of term would be complete without the teacher letting you watch a Christmas film? But, we can't just watch a film: Laura's attention span wouldn't last that long, would it? So, instead we're bringing a science twist to that end of term classroom TV time.Ron has painstakingly looked through some of the best/worst defences that Kevin builds onto the Macallister household when it gets invaded by the Wet Bandits. He uses these defences as a way to try to sneak some physics and some animal world facts into Laura's brain. We hope you're nicely warming up for Christmas now and can enjoy this sciencey view on a Christmas classic.Merry Christmas everyone!

S1 Ep 26Riddled With Buttholes
E6 months of Lexx Education! Thank you all so much for all the support and love as we fight to get this bad boy off the ground! She's a beautiful craft but the conditions for new podcasts aren't easy and we appreciate all your love, support and shares as we try to take off. We feel like 6 months is a really big milestone though, and we couldn't have got here without you. You're all wonderful but a particularly big shout out this week to Carole, who loves Bunsen so much she now has him permanently inked on her arm: that is dedication Carole and we are so bowled over by your love for the pod!The siblings discuss surprising TV, and TV they refuse to be surprised by. There’s a smooth segue into songs you maybe sang at Primary School. There’s school assembly nostalgia chat. Honestly, it kind of takes them a while to get to the biology if we’re honest. But then the science siblings settle into some plant tissue plant biology. Ron opens up conversation by asking Laura “What is a plant?” and her first attempts are “it’s nonverbal without a face” so you can fill in the blanks as to where the rest of the episode goes. Laura is distracted by apples, Ron has some issues with a fly. From there on out it’s a pretty friendly journey through plant biology: xylem, phloem, lignin… all sorts of things. It really falls apart in the quiz after what had essentially been, a really lovely episode. Here’s what we were talking about in terms of whales and carbon dioxide: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20210119-why-saving-whales-can-help-fight-climate-changeHere's the link to the confusingly named ko-fi page in case you want a last minute Christmas hat: https://ko-fi.com/lauralexx/shopSee you next week for the festive end of term madness!

S1 Ep 25McDeath 2: Fupa and Roy
EHello and welcome to another episode of Lexx Education, the comedy science podcast where comedian Laura Lexx tries to learn science from her reasonably average younger brother Ron.Unfortunately the stars have aligned this week to really bring out the worst of Laura. For one it’s our old nemesis physics, and for two this lesson was recorded on a Friday night when Laura did not feel good or focused whatsoever. In better news electricity is finally over. In slightly less good news we are on energy, and the particle model of matter. This episode features the sparkling return of Delta theta. Then a furious row about triangles ensues. You may remember it from the last time Laura and Ron talked Delta. At the very least though, Laura and Ron do both take a moment at the end of the episode to reflect upon their own behaviours... and cringe. Enjoy!Tickets to the show Laura mentions she’s working on can be found here: https://comedy-festival.co.uk/event/laura-lexx-mother-figure-wip/The episode of 99% Invisible that Laura recommends can be found here: https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/wickedest-sound/The game Laura tells Ron about is Railroad Inc.

S1 Ep 24Have You Ever Tried Not Being Sad?
EHello and welcome to another episode of Lexx Education! The two Somerset siblings are back, and this week trying to get their head's round quantitative chemistry. The intro and outro has even worse energy than usual - unless you want to hear Laura sniffing, Ron whining and chewing and them both being worse than ever, we suggets you skip to the lesson. Where they... are not really any better. Ron reveals his plan to become a hulking strong man and gets confused as to the structure of the podcast the science siblings are now 24 episodes in to.It’s chemistry today, quantitative chemistry to be precise. Quantitative means amounts proclaims Laura, and it’s her last helpful addition to the podcast. They argue an awful lot about a lot of things in here - but then, there’s beautiful light at the end of the tunnel as Ron and Laura discuss organic chemistry and why our bodies crave certain molecules. Molecular biology really shines in its moment uniting them. Then there’s a bit where they cover closed systems, and things are less sexy and exciting again. But, it’s in the syllabus so you’d best believe they're covering it!Here’s a link to the TK Maxx thing Ron was talking about: https://twitter.com/chiwithac/status/1552756017942904839?lang=en-GBWe’ll put Will singing yellow banjellelo on the instagram.Don't forget to like and subscribe!

S1 Ep 23Bar Graph For Wankers
EHow is it Monday again already? And not just any Monday, but a cold (probably) rainy (more than likely) Monday in November - the official worst month of the year. This week it's biology week and Ron and Laura are looking at illnesses and things that can make you ill. In all honesty though, it's Laura who does these bits and she's not listened the episode yet (as you'll hear in the intro) so she doesn't really know what to type.Whoop whoop biology.

S1 Ep 22The Worst Episode Yet
EIt is an absolute classic bants physics episode this week. Barely minutes in and we’ve got Ron’s greatest hits: clicking, shutupshutupshutup Don’t Just Say Things and shouting. Bliss. It's exactly what you want from Lexx Education and what Laura and Ron will end up in therapy over.It takes a shocking amount of time to work out the resistance of a circuit. A really shocking amount of time. Maybe half the episode? I mean... my goodness. Is it a record number of ba dum tish sound effects? It’s good way to measure how little Laura understands, how much she’s turning to jokes to feel better. If you come here for the terrible jokes then you are in for a treat. And when it comes to the quiz, Laura doesn’t even remember what subject they are studying let alone the answers to the questions. Enjoy yourselves!

S1 Ep 21Carbonzo Beans
EWelcome back to Lexx Education; the comedy science podcast where comedian Laura Lexx tries to learn science from her younger brother Ron!Listen folks, we mustn't lie to you: Ron is padding the episode. For the first time ever Ron really wants Laura to be as distracting as possible because there’s not enough of the syllabus to make a whole episode so he’s finishing up something small and saving quantitative chemistry for next time. To be honest, it's hard to tell it apart from the usual episodes, but we want you to know that the lack of content is on Ron for once, not Laura. We are specifically looking at carbon, how carbon bonds. We get on to diamonds and how and why they are strong and beautiful.Sketchfab.com is the website where Laura was exploring the structure of diamond to look at. Be careful not to zoom out too far. Then we move onto graphite and why even though graphite and diamond are made of the same thing, they are very differently behaving substances.Ron introduces Laura to a Buckminsterfullerene and a carbon nanotube. There’s no way she knows why, because as you’ll hear - he isn’t totally sure why.Don't forget to rate the podcast wherever you can and subscribe so you never miss an episode. See you next week!

S1 Ep 20Jumble Frog - Halloween Special 2022
EHello and welcome to another episode of Lexx Education! The comedy science podcast where comedian Laura Lexx tries to learn science from her nerdy younger brother Ron.This week, at Ron’s insistence, the science siblings take on the spooky science of Halloween! Ron talks to Laura about the science of reanimation and zombies. He’s the most excited and happy you will ever hear him!Ron talks about the science behind Frankenstein, and the developments in medicine that led to the interest in reanimation. There’s a reappearance of the Maki song, but with altered lyrics. They cover tobacco enemas, trepanning, drowning rescue techniques and other macabre details.Ron brings the fascinating subjects of cordiceps and tranced up ladybirds and Laura tries her best. They round off the episode with toxiplasma - a fascinating insight into a real life way of making a zombie out of a rat and a cat. Truly horrifying.Laura’s YouTube book is here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLT7dPezmzTPsRof_SNbx-BwpnVUrmMD4VLaura’s Leicester show is here:https://comedy-festival.co.uk/event/laura-lexx-mother-figure-wip/

S1 Ep 19A Pig and an Airbed
EHello and welcome to another episode of Lexx Education! The comedy science podcast where comedian Laura Lexx tries to learn science from her nerdy younger brother Ron.This week, it’s biology which are usually our happy balmy waters, but this week we have to look at the very serious subject of coronary heart disease, via coronation chicken, raisins and Danny Champion of the World. While we don’t go out of our way to be insensitive, it is a lighthearted podcast and we are our usual selves so bear in mind that if heart attacks or heart disease are likely to be a bit close to the bone for you it might be best to skip this one.We look at the treatments on offer for heart surgery, medications and their pros and cons. Laura gets confused about the thickness of blood, they discuss the dismal future of planet earth and whether it’s too late to help so you might as well eat a prawn. If you're enjoying the podcast please subscribe so you never miss an episode and drop us a five star review or a share somewhere.

S1 Ep 18Everybody Hertz
EHello and welcome to another episode of Lexx Education! The comedy science podcast where comedian Laura Lexx tries to learn science from her nerdy younger brother Ron.You probably heard the deep sad sighs at the time of recording but it's back to physics this week, and the siblings are fuming to realise they are still on electricity. But, Ron has a trick up his sleeve this week in the form of an interactive website! Can Laura take it seriously enough to learn or will the batteries just burn for eternity? Eburnity. We cover circuits in parallel and series this week and really try to hammer in the concepts of volts, potential difference, resistors, amps, ohms. There is particular resistance to the concept of resistance. Ironic.Laura and Ron discuss a potential school trip cross over episode with The National Treasures Podcast which is Laura’s other podcast with comedian Will Duggan. If you’re not already a listener (delishioner) then do give it a listen. https://linktr.ee/nationaltreasures (it also features Ron on the patrons only podcast). We also have another stellar example of Ron not knowing how to deal with human emotions. What a lovely feature of the podcast that is turning into. Here is the interactive website we are playing with, do have an explore if you too want to get your head round circuits: https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/circuit-construction-kit-dc/latest/circuit-construction-kit-dc_en.html

S1 Ep 17Intermolecular Force To Be Reckoned With
EWelcome to another episode of Lexx Education! Episode 17 and a return to chemistry! This week the science siblings get stuck in to atomic bonds and intermolecular forces. They take another look over types of bonds, not for the first or last (we expect) time this series.Ron walks Laura through the changes in state occurring at melting, freezing and condensing points on the journey of matter as energy is applied to it. What can we say, Laura does her best, and is only really stumped when they reach the subject of molten wood, which is just something Laura will not and cannot comprehend. There's only so much hope.As mentioned at the end of the episode, if you want to join Laura’s YouTube channel for Laura Lexx Writes You A Book then the link is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-w_b1HVs2Wg&lc=Ugx0dZ35CQ0g1fcR5Kh4AaABAg9pm every Tuesday, and available to catch up on through the week. Also, if you did want to nab yourself a hat, then you can grab yourself a baseball cap here: https://ko-fi.com/lauralexx/shop

S1 Ep 16Valve Slap
EThe science siblings are bouncing back out of the dry dry lands of electricity and into biology. They seem happy here. They’re looking at the body, starting with the structure of the heart. Somehow Laura manages to make the Tower of Terror queue an analogy for the heart. It’s not a winner.Ron takes Laura on a journey with blood through the heart and all its vestibules, out into the lungs for a minute and back into the heart. Laura is mainly picturing queues at Disneyland so it’s anyones guess how much of it actually went in and how much she now just thinks about Paris when listening to a heartbeat. It’s probably Laura’s worst drawing as she does her best to draw a photo realistic heart. Make sure you follow us on all our socials @treasurespod to see Laura’s notes every week.Ron tells Laura exactly how her heart beats and she hears something else. It’s honestly like magic. But, you will hear information on how nerves travel around your heart making things work. Trivia of the week: there’s a septum in your heart.Laura gets to grips with her entire body being full, and then Ron moves them on to blood. We look at the make up of blood; red and white blood cells, plus platelets and what the purposes of each type of blood cell are. It’s a full bodied, mildly squabbly but generally excited biology episode. Enjoy! To get your hands on one of the 3 different types of Lexx Education hats, head over to Laura’s Ko-fi shop and get one before they’re all gone! https://ko-fi.com/lauralexx/shop

S1 Ep 15There's No Such Thing As A Fire
EHello and welcome back to another episode of Lexx Education! The comedy science podcast where comedian Laura Lexx tries to learn GCSE science from her nerdy younger brother Ron. Hello, he's Ron.This week it's physics and so we all know what that means... Laura is furious. The twist this week is that Ron hates the subject too! How exciting! This week the science siblings are trying to learn electricity but Ron has to stop to explain the basics of the universe. We find out that Laura doesn’t believe in fire or glass. Ron expertly moves the conversation on, but they get tripped up over batteries and Ron has to stop to re-explain metallic bonds.Let's not even get started on resistors. Please don't forget to leave us a 5* review if you're enjoying the show. We're available across the internet on social medias where we post the photos and images that we discuss in the show. Thanks for listening!

S1 Ep 14Figabee
EHello and welcome back to the 14th episode of Lexx Education. The comedy podcast where Laura Lexx tries to learn GCSE science from her nerdy younger brother Ron.This week we are back on the chemistry trail and, it's not just siblings who have bonds: it's atoms too! We look at all types of chemical bonding: ionic, covalent and metallic bonds. There's some time spent on crystal lattice structures, and how things react in solution. There's also a lot of Laura reacting in fury.Ron accidentally tries out a new catchphrase, there's the return of Don't Just Say Things and the first appearance of the elusive Producer Nephew. Enjoy!

S1 Ep 13High Tummy Pressure
ELaura is back from holiday and the science siblings are back giddy to be reunited via the medium of the internet. Fresh from not arguing over physics for once, they bound into biology with fresh enthusiasm only to be met with squabbles straight out of the gate. What a nightmare! This week they are looking at diffusion (again), osmosis (Jones), Active transport, catalysts, enzymes and emulsions (not gloss or satin). There's also, for the first time in Lexx Education history a live Lexxperiment in an episode. It's featuring bread (the foodstuff not the band).A very giggly episode this week so if you're in need of some science comedy podcast escapism then dip those lovely little ears of yours into this and have a laugh. Here is a link to the Animated Periodic Table as discussed: https://twitter.com/CgFigures/status/1566443841061789700And this is the toy Laura was talking about: https://www.ebay.com/itm/174504192249Enjoy!Powered by podspike.com

S1 Ep 12Gravity Is Not An Emotion
EOh my goodness... can you believe it? A physics episode with next to no screaming at each other? It has to be heard to be believed! This week the science siblings leave tiny, obscure nonsense alone for a hot minute and take a peek at energy sources... Ron walks Laura through all the current available energy sources and they discuss the pros and cons of each one.Ron is... hot during this episode. There's really no avoiding how hot Ron is. Some would say too hot, but not Ron: he really refuses to admit that at all.Laura mentions her mental health in this episode. Listeners might not be aware of Laura’s history with depression and GAD (generalised anxiety disorder), triggered by an obsession with climate change that started around the time she started trying for a baby. If you have worryingly obsessive thoughts, about climate change or anything else, you are not alone. Please seek medical help so that you can have the brain space you need to action being proactive on these subjects rather than a puddle of worry.Laura’s show Trying about her dealings with this can be found here if you want to watch it: https://nextupcomedy.com/lauralexx/?fp_ref=ilovelauraAn autogenerated transcript of this episode can be found on our blog: https://lexxeducation.blogspot.com/Powered by podspike.com

S1 Ep 11Xenon Warrior Princess
EHello! Welcome back to Lexx Education, the science podcast where comedian Laura Lexx tries to learn science from her nerdy little brother Ron. This week the Somerset siblings are actually in the same room for the intro and outro of the podcast, and thanks to a little gift from a listener, they have a LOT OF FUN. Also featuring a live studio audience by way of girlfriend of the podcast Judith, and husband of the podcast Tom.In the chemistry lesson portion of the episode, Laura is recovering from her ultra marathon and also in Oslo for the week, so her brain is a little bit melty. Ron edited this one so there is a STARTLING lack of sound effects. Do you miss them?Laura and Ron have a bit of a falling out about how to learn and when to question this week. Does Ron want Laura to ask questions and understand or just nod along? Is Laura capable of either regardless of what Ron wants?Ron gets too hot, then it rains, and Laura retains almost nothing from beginning to end of the episode. However, we do cover The Halogens, metals and non-metals, the noble gases and some chemical reaction equations. It’s just that it doesn’t stick with Laura for a single second. Here is Google’s periodic table: https://www.google.com/search?q=periodic+table&oq=periodic+&aqs=chrome.0.0i433i512j69i57j0i512l2j0i131i433i512j0i512l4j46i433i512.2469j1j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8Here’s Joe’s song about blood: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Futnu_6NmQoAn autogenerated transcript of this episode can be found on our blog: https://lexxeducation.blogspot.com/Powered by podspike.com

S1 Ep 10You Can't Measure Chaos
EThis week the science siblings are in their comfort zone of biology, but don’t let that fool you into thinking that they can’t fall out about it. Ron tries to teach Laura using her favourite thing on planet earth: tea. However, it just causes Laura to be annoyed that the learning never actually turns into tea.Diffusion is the big topic of the day; looking at chaos theory, entropy and then how bodies make use of concentration gradients to get functions done. Things like breathing, and making piss. They manage to say piss a lot in this episode, a weird number of times. Exchange surfaces are analysed in great detail but Laura is a little distracted by trying to work out if she and Ron are under the same cloud. It is raining cats and dogs in Brussels and Ron’s recording station being just under a velux makes for a rainy episode of the podcast. Spoiler: Laura and Ron were not under the same cloud. An autogenerated transcript of this episode can be found on our blog: https://lexxeducation.blogspot.com/Powered by podspike.com

Ep 9McDeath
EThis week Laura Lexx is back in the Physics Lab and oh boy is she furious about it! As her brother Ron attempts once again to get over his own disinterest in science and get her to concentrate, they have a look at energy transfers and how to calculate how much energy is used in heating and cooling objects.Laura gets promised tea that never comes, but helpfully she does now know how much energy her kettle is using to make this hypothetical tea that never comes. Via a picnic at Tarr Steps, Ron teaches Laura about cooling down as well and they argue over whether formulas are useful or not. It’s one of their angrier episodes so you best enjoy it, because they didn’t.An autogenerated transcript of this episode can be found on our blog: https://lexxeducation.blogspot.com/Powered by podspike.com
