S1 Ep 185Bestselling author relished collaboration for 'Heat' follow-up
When former lawyer and bestselling author Meg Gardiner teamed up with Michael Mann for the follow-up novel to his 1995 crime thriller movie Heat, working with the legendary filmmaker was an eye-opener. “All the legends about his proclivities for research are accurate,” Gardiner told the ABA Journal's Matt Reynolds. “If you want to find out how to perform a tunnel heist in a Chicago bank, you better get a bank robber on the phone and chat with him for a couple of hours.” Learn more about your ad choices. S1 Ep 52What is Collaborative Law?
The rising costs of litigation and increased pressure to control legal budgets has made alternative dispute resolution a desirable way to resolve legal disputes. Mediation and arbitration are two well-known ADR methods, but they're not necessarily the most cost effective. Can parties possibly resolve their disputes without tearing each other down, and work to preserve good working relationships? The method of collaborative law attempts to help parties resolve disputes in exactly that fashion. To discuss this concept, Dave welcomes guest Glenn Meier to the show. Glenn is a business lawyer in Greenberg Traurig's Las Vegas office. Glenn leverages decades of experience negotiating and litigating commercial disputes to help clients build sustainable collaborative relationships with their stakeholders. He also possesses deep experience in the emerging fields of relational contracting and collaborative law. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

S1 Ep 301The Justices Are One Big, Happy Family, Says Justice No One Likes
EAlso, some salty law school talk. Every high schooler has a group text chain and then a chain where they complain about the people they don't like on the group chain. Brett Kavanaugh is unaware of the second chain. Because when you have to do public tours to convince people that you have friends, you don't have friends. Meanwhile, a law professor didn't take too kindly to a student request. And while cursing at students isn't acceptable, the frustration probably was justified. Finally, there are a lot of thorny ethical challenges in this world, but some conflicts are pretty clear. Like, $62 million clear. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Do you need a sign? Yes, you do. Google has a lot of weird rules.) And for Heaven’s sake, if you tell Google you’ll accept messaging through Google, you need to answer your messages or risk bad reviews and cranky customers. Do or do not. There is no try. NAP? It’s got to be consistent across the web. If you don’t know it, you need to listen to this episode. This is everything you need to know about Google mapping and why it’s so important. S1 Ep 300Supreme Court Leaves Nine Stones Unturned
EThe Supreme Court's inquiry into the source of the leak of its draft opinion in Dobbs failed to find the culprit among the clerks and permanent staff. Attorneys familiar with internal investigations pointed out that the report appeared carefully drafted to mislead the public without technically lying about the failure to investigate the people with the most access and motive, leaving the Court's legitimacy more compromised than when the investigation started. Meanwhile, an attorney caught billing hundreds of hours for document review he didn't do earns a suspension, and Goodwin Procter makes heads spin as its layoffs are immediately followed with a major lateral move. S1 Ep 129Urgent Need: Serving First Responders With PTSD
We depend on our first responders – firefighters, cops, emergency room workers – every day. They protect us from harm. But what happens when they need our help? Our guest Robert Wisniewski is a Certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation law with the Arizona State Bar and a military veteran. Post-traumatic Stress Disorder is a real thing, PTSD. How does this fit into state Workers’ Comp protections? You can’t see these mental scars. And every state is different. Some states don’t offer benefits for these issues. The military and the Veterans Administration understand the damage we can’t see, but it’s unclear where first responders fit at a state level Remember, every state has its own rules. This is a tough one, but we’re talking about our hometown heroes. There can be a stigma, and sometimes issues don’t get reported until it’s too late, or the chain of command drops the ball. And unlike falling off a ladder or getting in a car wreck on the job, PTSD injuries may be the result of repeated incidents over a long term. It’s hard to say “when” the mental injury happened, how do you make that claim? Courts are struggling with this. Non-physical stressors may be limited to a single incident, not a working lifetime of stress. We owe first responders support and care when they need it. This is a confusing and complicated issue. But this is important. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The controversy laid bare the persistent threat of pregnancy discrimination, but also the ways these attitudes fester when management fails to take swift, decisive action. The Department of Justice appointed a special counsel to look into Joe Biden's mishandled classified documents in a case of Republicans needing to be careful what they wish for.
