February 10, 2021--On this edition “Point & Click Radio,” the biweekly computer show, Point and Click hosts Bob Laughton, Jim Heid and Toby Malina (from the "Point and Click Research Desk") give an update on the Starlink satellite internet service, which they covered in detail in their last show. Since then, Starlink has begun taking orders for service in our area. They talk about the realities behind ordering the service as well as some interesting details they’ve dug up about the service. Continuing with the internet theme, they also talk about a free browser that they’ve been testing. It’s called Vivaldi, and it might just become their new favorite browser. As always, they take listener calls and computer-related questions and comments.

Tomales Bay supports roughly 20,000 shorebirds in early winter, qualifying as a wetland of international importance by the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network. Since 1989, Audubon Canyon Ranch has been monitoring seasonal populations of shorebirds there, and the resulting data reveal some interesting and disturbing trends. Dr. Nils Warnock, Director of Conservation Science at Audubon Canyon Ranch, presents those findings and explains their significance in the context of the Pacific Flyway and global shorebird populations.

February 4, 2021--KZYX is pleased to broadcast the newest lecture in the Mendocino College Symposium Series: “Curious Reactions, Vaccines and Social Response” by Dr. Larry Aguirre. The presentation explores some of the social responses to vaccination that societies have been grappling with since the earliest attempts were made to create vaccines. Dr. Aguirre evaluates how present-day vaccines work and discuss some common contemporary concerns of vaccination including those related to COVID 19.

January 28, 2021--KZYX is pleased to present a new program, Inside Education, hosted by Mendocino County Superintendent of Schools Michelle Hutchins. In Mendocino County’s school districts, the maintenance, operations and transportation directors have had to figure out how to comply with constantly evolving safety guidelines, procure supplies when the whole world wants those same supplies, and retrofit facilities that were never intended to accommodate social distancing. On this first episode, Michelle talks with them about their work to get schools ready for students to return. "Inside Education" will air on KZYX every fourth Thursday of the month at 3pm.
