Esta expresión idiomática alude a una superstición bastante popular: que cuando sentimos un timbre o zumbido en nuestros oídos, significa que alguien está hablando sobre nosotros a nuestras espaldas. Al decir my ears are burning">me pitan los oídos, en efecto estamos usando esta superstición, sin necesidad de creer en la misma, para insinuar nuestra sospecha. Sería lo mismo que decir: "Presiento que alguien está hablando sobre mí."
