Chancellor “Lucky Chance” Jackson was born in Fulton County, Georgia, to Native American parents, he grew up in Smyrna, Georgia, and attended Stetson University. Chance stayed in his cell with 14 Chinese men and 9 wooden beds for 24 hours a day while he was detained. The Project was a new initiative in Windsor-Essex aimed to educate local business and hiring managers about the benefits of hiring individuals with disabilities. By eliminating the barriers and stereotypes, we can create a positive pathway towards these individuals gaining competitive employment within our community. The project lasted 13 months and resulted in 28 individuals with disabilities securing employment. Lourin Hubbard was born in Central Valley, the son of a single black working-class mother who was an admitting clerk for a local hospital and a union representative for SEIU-UHW in Bakersfield. Lourin’s mom struggled to raise two children amid the skyrocketing costs of housing, transportation and health care. His mother worked 10-12 hours days and the family required food stamps to survive. Unforutnatley, Lourin’s mom struggled with chronic high blood pressure and other health problems her entire life, and without consistent access to health care she died at the age of 50. From this experience, Lourin saw first hand the stark inequities in our nation’s broken health care system and painful disparities in health outcomes for black, brown and low income families. Lourin’s mother instilled in him a strong sense of determination and taught him to fight for what is right and for what he believes In including the power of education. Lourin was the first member of his family to attend and graduate from a 4 year university. Lourin met his wife at Fresno State, where he earned his degree in Political Science.
