106-5 Common Behaviors That Lead Straight to Self-Sabotage

You are on a roll with your goals and all of a sudden out of nowhere, you make a decision that will lead you straight to feeling disappointed and block you from achieving your goal. There are distinctive behaviors that we have in our everyday lives that lead us to self-sabotage… Do you do have these behaviors in your own life? What is Self-Sabotage? According to my friend Google, self-sabotage is a behavior that interferes with long-standing goals. It’s having the behaviors that are completely against what you are trying to achieve, but you still do it. Now, that you know what self-sabotage is, the number 1 step you need to do is take responsibility. Take action and avoid those behaviors that will lead you to self-sabotage. What are those? 5 Common Behaviors That Lead Straight to Self-Sabotage Perfection – The all-or-nothing attitude that prevents you from taking action, waiting for the right time or waiting for the perfect environment or situation. Procrastination is self-sabotaging. It is a serious sign of it. When you procrastinate and wait to do something because it’s not the right timing or it’s not the right season. Well here’s the good news! There’s not gonna be a perfect time. You’ll only find the perfect time when you start to take action. Yes, you got it right! Not Feeling Good Enough is the background to why we are deciding to do something. “We’re not worth it.” “We don’t feel good enough,” so we need to punish ourselves through self-sabotage. Expecting the worst. Because you feel that you are not good enough, you automatically go to the place where you are not going to be successful. You actually are preparing yourself for failure. You are preventing having the pain of failure, so you are expecting the worst… so you feel not good enough… so you procrastinate because you wanted to be just perfect. See how they are correlated? Blaming responsibility. “I just don’t have the time to… everyday because I got kids, I need to cook healthy food, I gotta clean the house, I got work… so I just don’t have 15 minutes every day to…” I know exactly because the whole time I was working in the corporate world, that was my number 1 excuse – “I just don’t have time because I got a lot of important things to do.” And to add one more… Toxic people are a constant in your life. I had this story just last week from someone who’s interested to be in the Going Beyond the Food Academy. She was putting the responsibility on her husband. Clearly, her husband does not trust her and does not have confidence in her that she will achieve her goals. He was not supportive of her enrolling in the program. He is a toxic individual in her life, not believing in her, making her not take action and not jump in to make her life better. If you are surrounded by toxic individuals in your life, that could be a reason why you are self-sabotaging because you are constantly being sent off the message that you are not good enough, that you just don’t do anything right, so might as well do nothing. What should we do to get out of self-sabotage behaviors? Stop working on the symptoms, ladies. Stop putting a band-aid by applying more control to your food. Instead, work on those behaviors… Work on accepting that perfection is not something we need to achieve. We don’t need to be perfect. We need to have compassion to ourselves in the same way we need to have compassion for other people. The same thing for procrastination – just be done with it and start! How do we learn to do those things? The number 1 step you can take to stop all those self-sabotaging behaviors is working on yourself. Personal development is the solution. It’s not in the development of another diet or another set of rules on your food. It’s getting to know yourself better by doing exercises such as journaling. You know that I am a big advocate of that because it did change my life. It is an exercise of self-discovery. You can also try meditation, visualization, movement that is associated with breath and self-awareness – walk in nature. You can start developing a relationship with yourself. Right now, it seems complicated than it really is. You might be thinking, “I don’t even know where to start.” That’s totally okay. Personal development skills and tools are not being taught in most places. This is something we brush over because we believe it’s not important. You can pick up books such the Anatomy of the Spirit. Listen to my prior podcasts that can teach you skills to learn to know yourself better. You can also try the program that I am currently testing – The Going Beyond the Food Academy. It’s a personal development program. In there is a course on Self-Sabotage. I encourage you to check it out and learn more about it to see if it’s something that can help you achieve your personal goals. Last week’s episode, we had Debra Atkinson in the show and she talked about the 6 biggest menopause myths that keep you from thriving. I suggest you check it out! You can listen to the ep

105-6 Biggest Menopause Myths That Keep You From Thriving

“It’s your age”… or “My mom suffered during her menopause, so I’m just doomed”. Is that how you relate to your own menopause? Or maybe fear it because you believe there is nothing you can do? Today, we are going to crush 6 Biggest Menopause Myths that keep you from thriving. PS: Your mom’s menopause has little to do with yours! Menopause Myths For sure you’ve heard those commentaries many times when women who talk about menopause. It may come surprising to you that the beliefs that have been handed down to us from generation to generation are, in reality, a bunch of myths. Debra Atkinson of Flipping Fifty podcast explained to us why those beliefs that we got from our parents and ancestors are just menopause myths since they do not have the backing of Science. People always say, “This is just the way aging works, you’re bound to suffer.” The basic idea is – if you believe it, you can manifest it. We actually have the ability to reverse the effects of aging. If we’re going to do our research in regards to menopause, we’re going to come up empty-handed with any direct correlation between menopause and weight gain. We do know that we may have a genetic predisposition, but how we live our lives will dictate how we thrive in it. Last episode, I talked about the power of community and how it impacts our health journey that brings about better quality of life to women. This is such an empowering message, ladies. 104-5 Tips to Take Advantage of the Power of Community in Your Health Journey

“It takes a village to raise a child” is a demonstration that we did evolve as a species in a community… being part of a tribe was a necessity to survive. Today’s society structure promotes the opposite, leaving us depressed and anxious. But really, how do friendship and community impact your health? And what is the best approach to maximize their benefits? The Power of Community The deterioration of our connections with each other not only impoverishes our personal and communal lives but also has a significant effect on our health and well-being. I have often observed that without feeling a sense of belonging or connectedness, we risk feeling anxious, depressed and alienated. This observation was in fact backed by a study that suggests that friendships between women are special. The research shows that the strongest predictor for creating a fulfilled life is building healthy relationships with others — at home, at work, and in the community. Friendship Reduces Stress A landmark study has found that women respond to stress differently than men. It claims that when women are under stress, the hormone oxytocin is released, along with cortisol, and it buffers the fight or flight response and encourages us to protect and nurture children and gather with other women. The study calls it “tend and befriend” pattern which happens not only to humans but also to females of many species. When women actually engage in tending or befriending, even more oxytocin is released, further countering stress and calming them down. Men produce high levels of testosterone when they’re under stress, and according to research, it reduces the calming effects of oxytocin. They are therefore more likely to deal with stress with aggression (fight) or withdrawal (flight). Women, on the other hand, produce estrogen that enhances the effects of oxytocin and compels them to seek social support. 5 Tips to Take Advantage of the Power of Community in Your Health Journey Find a community of women who: Inspire You to Reach Your Goal It’s important to relate yourself to women that inspire you to reach your goal, people who will lift your morale. For sure, you’ll find quality women that will provide you will emotional and moral support that will tell you, “You can do it!”. Have Similar Values as You Finding a community of women that have similar values as you is very empowering. You need to ask yourself if your tribe think, feel and is at the same place as you. This is essential because it will give you the backing that you are in the right place to talk. It will also become easier to relate to people since you have a common background. Provide You with Sense of Belonging As we’ve mentioned earlier, we humans evolved as a species in a community. It gives us the idea that we are a part of something bigger than us. We are contributing to something that will be of use to others and in the same way, will benefit us as a member of the community. Who Help You Manage Trauma and Emotion It is such a huge thing for us, ladies. That is why it is essential to look for women who are capable and willing to talk about raw emotion. These are women who are willing to be present to your emotion to help you cope with a way to which you want to cope better with your emotion. Who Provide a Sense of Security Be in a crowd of women where there is a ‘no judgment zone’ where you can tell, say and feel anything and they will accept you, will not judge and will encourage you where you are today. These are the reasons why I created a private community on Facebook – The Beyond the Food Community where we are currently proposing an actual more structured and organized way of looking at community and sisterhood. I invite you to have a look at our community and check out what the special offer is all about and how it can help you. Do this only if you believe that community and sisterhood can actually help you achieve your goal. Last week’s episode, Brodie Welch joined us in the show and talked about the one thing that we need to know and likely not doing about the subject of meal timing. I’m sure you’ll be quick to ditch the diet mindset upon hearing her teachings about meal timing. I suggest you check it out! You can listen to the episode here. Next episode, we’ll have Debra Atkinson in the show to discuss a very insightful topic about menopause myths that keep you from thriving. Take note, this is not just for women that are currently experiencing menopause. Listen up, younger women because this will change the way you are perceiving yourself going into menopause. 103-Meal Timing-The One Thing You Need to Know and Likely Not Doing with Brodie Welch

When I say meal timing, what do you think of right away? Like the 4-6 meals a day or eating window, right? Well, there is one important element that both these meal timing philosophies are not considering. This one thing can be a game changer for many women. Meal Timing I'm sure you've heard a lot of rules on this thing, but Brodie Welch, a Licensed Acupuncturist, Board-Certified Herbalist, Chinese Medicine expert, group coach, and self-care strategist, has a different take on this. In our interview, we talked about how our body plays a very significant role in telling us when to eat. If you think about it, many people train their bodies to be obedient to a certain meal timing rule hoping to achieve their body and health goals. Surprisingly, our body also gives us cues on what to eat. It may come as a shock for many because we have been conditioned to follow a certain "health" trend. But in reality, nature already laid out everything in front of us. We just need to listen and be in tune with our body and our surroundings to be able to know when and what to feed our body. This is the universal law of nature. So, what can we take away from this? It's all about intuitive eating. Listen to your body because it has the answers to all of your body and health questions. Ultimately, what "rule" should we be following? I guess it's the rule of nature. If we could all be mindful of what nature is offering us, I think we wouldn't have to be burdened with when, what, and all those health-and-nutrition-related questions. Get cues from your body messages. Because after all, the answer is all inside of us. Last week’s episode was my biggest takeaways and inspirational quotes from the interviews I had with our guest speakers at the Going Beyond The Food Project. It was such a very powerful experience for me to be interviewing very insightful resource speakers who are with us in this Going Beyond the Food movement, so I suggest you check it out! 101-From Shame to Fame-My Never-Before-Shared Personal Story-Stephanie Dodier

Before, I was in charge of what part of my story was being put out to the world...When I decided to reveal my pursuit of my life purpose, I made the conscious choice of being an open book. I would be transparent and share everything about who I was and how I came to be with you today. While creating the Going Beyond The Food Project, I decided to let go of the control and asked my friend Sean Croxton to help me bring out my story like never before. I gave him "carte blanche" with the purpose of pulling out of me what could help more women... the emotions, the feelings and the parts I had kept secret until now. That what's you'll hear today…The Stephanie Dodier story: my never-before-shared personal journey. If you’re someone who’s been troubled for so long by your relationship to food, weight and overall health issues and are in search of a solution to better your life, THIS IS FOR YOU. You can still join us at the Going Beyond The Food Project until November 7, 2017 for FREE. After the online conference, you can still access and own all these very informative, insightful and mind-blowing materials, plus speaker bonuses via the Upgraded Package. The Stephanie Dodier Story: The Beginning It all started at 11. My childhood was not your typical carefree kid story. I remember hiding baking and eating cookies from my mother. I was brought to Weight Watchers, in the company of grown women whose objective is mainly to lose weight. I was like… “What the heck am I doing here?” I didn’t understand what’s going on and why my mother kept on sending me there on a weekly basis. Ever experienced being bullied? Oh, I know so well how it feels! Raised in a family of “pleasers” where you’re expected to be “normal”, being different is a big no-no. My parents were so concerned about how people perceive us that we, their kids, were expected to perform well in anything we do. It’s like you’re pushed to be the best you can be to the point where things felt like a chore already. It was a challenge for me to live up to their expectations. I came to believe that I was not good enough. That’s when I turned to food to hide my emotions. Caught Up In the Cycle At 14, my aunts took me to a low-fat diet. I lost 50 lbs in 6 months. And boy, how I felt good about myself! For the first time, I felt like people love me and I belong. I didn’t need food to hide the shame that I feel. I looked good and started to have friends and have a normal teenage life. This continued until 26, the age when I experienced what I consider the lowest point in my life - something that affirmed I’m not good enough no matter how hard I tried. I started to overeat again and I developed work addiction to ward off my negative thoughts. It’s like eating is the only way to numb the pain of rejection. I put all my energy into my job reaching almost the top of the corporate ladder. But somehow somewhere, everybody really has a breaking point - my health and my body collapsed. The Search It felt like I already did almost everything - read and got hooked up with the Paleo Solution and How to Eat, Move and Be Healthy, over-exercised, did corrective therapy in between losing and gaining weight. I got a hold of Anatomy of the Spirit by Caroline Myss, a book about spirituality, relationship with family and food. I took 6 months off and traveled to see something new and clear my mind. I went to school at the Institute of Holistic Education in Toronto and started to get some followers with my online works. I did Ketogenic diet thinking it might be “the solution” for me. The Solution By the end of our interview, Sean asked me what solution I found with everything I went through. The answer?… is to GO BEYOND THE FOOD. The solution is to deep-dive into emotional eating and discover your intention for eating. You should manage your emotion and train your mind, become conscious on your intention on food. Look on the emotion and understand why you are having that. When you discover the emotion, ask why you feel this emotion, learn how to cope with it other than food. With this, you will stop overeating and will have less bad emotions as well. The Going Beyond the Food Project It was a huge decision for me to share the real story behind my journey because they are deeply personal. But I took this high-risk road because I know I am not the only one. For a long time in my life, I felt alone thinking no one understands and ‘gets it’. But my changed perspective on my personal journey, even how negative it may seem to many, has moved me to become empowered and cast off the victim mentality. It has helped me shift my life from a negative place to a positive place. I am inviting you to consider that for yourself because that is the most profound transformation you can do to heal your health, realize your goals and live the life you dreamed of. Last week's episode, I took you behind the scene of the Going Beyond The Food Project. We recorded the podcast episode live during one of the wrap-up s
