Ep 11S26E11 - The Leadership Summit - ’Bluer than Indigo’ Leadership: Alchemizing Your Leadership Capabilities

In this HCI Podcast episode, Dr. Jonathan H. Westover (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanhwestover/) shares his presentation for The Leadership Summit at the University of South Florida: 'Bluer than Indigo' Leadership: Alchemizing Your Leadership Capabilities." See the video here: https://youtu.be/04Ffxzme_Do. Session Overview: "There are leadership competencies and capabilities needed for the future of work, and it isn’t rocket science. There are ordinary, everyday actions that will produce extraordinary results if we can just uncover them and be consistent. Among the most important of these everyday actions is illustrated by the Korean proverb 청출어람 or 줄람지예, which translated means “Bluer than Indigo.” Indigo is the bluest of blues, so to have something that is bluer than indigo is truly remarkable—a deep, vibrant, and brilliant blue. Koreans use this proverb to describe the ideal relationship between leader/teacher and pupil—that is that the leader/teacher (indigo) trains and teaches the pupil to become bluer than indigo, or greater than himself/herself." Westover (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanhwestover/) explores the recent WE-Forum video, "What Future of Jobs Do We Want to Build?" (Originally aired December 9, 2020). Ep 11S25E11 - HBR Minute Rewind - How to Stop Promoting Incompetent Men

In this "HBR Minute Rewind" HCI Podcast episode, Dr. Jonathan H. Westover https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanhwestover/) explores the recent HBR video, "How to Stop Promoting Incompetent Men" (Originally Aired May 2nd, 2021). See the video here: https://youtu.be/5XikR_aN0Hk. Video Overview: "Are there fewer women in management because we can’t discern between confidence and competence? The popular explanations range from women just aren’t capable of being leaders to women just don’t want to be leaders. According to author Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic however, the absence of women in leadership roles has less to do with women themselves and more to do with how we interpret leadership traits. Confidence – a trait more associated with men – is often misinterpreted as competence. As a result, charismatic, but incompetent men have fewer barriers to reach the top than women. Individuals in positions to promote and hire managers should think more critically about what seems like a leadership trait versus what is an actual leadership trait. They will find that arrogance and overconfidence – the characteristics that get men into management positions – are also the characteristics that cause poor performance."
