In this "WE-Forum Feature Rewind" HCI Podcast episode, Dr. Jonathan H. Westover (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanhwestover/) explores the recent WE-Forum video, "What Future of Jobs Do We Want to Build?" (Originally aired December 9, 2020). After years of growing income inequality, concerns about technology-driven displacement of jobs, and rising societal discord globally, the combined health and economic shocks of 2020 have put economies into freefall, disrupted labour markets and fully revealed the inadequacies of our social contracts. As we emerge from the crisis, we can proactively shape more inclusive, fair and sustainable economies, organizations, societies and workplaces. To do so, we must mobilize the best of human capabilities, technologies, innovative policies and market forces in service of this new vision. The World Economic Forum’s Jobs Reset Summit is serving as key milestone in supporting such a mobilization, working closely with partners around the world. Learn more: wef.ch/jobs-reset-summit. Ep 29S32E29 - HBR Minute Rewind - How to Stop Promoting Incompetent Men
In this "HBR Minute Rewind" HCI Podcast episode, Dr. Jonathan H. Westover https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanhwestover/) explores the recent HBR video, "How to Stop Promoting Incompetent Men" (Originally Aired May 2nd, 2021). See the video here: https://youtu.be/5XikR_aN0Hk. Video Overview: "Are there fewer women in management because we can’t discern between confidence and competence? The popular explanations range from women just aren’t capable of being leaders to women just don’t want to be leaders. According to author Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic however, the absence of women in leadership roles has less to do with women themselves and more to do with how we interpret leadership traits. Confidence – a trait more associated with men – is often misinterpreted as competence. As a result, charismatic, but incompetent men have fewer barriers to reach the top than women. Individuals in positions to promote and hire managers should think more critically about what seems like a leadership trait versus what is an actual leadership trait. They will find that arrogance and overconfidence – the characteristics that get men into management positions – are also the characteristics that cause poor performance." Ep 16S32E16 - The Impact of AI and Deep Machine Learning on Human Capital, with Luke Arrigoni
In this HCI Podcast episode, Dr. Jonathan H. Westover (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanhwestover/) talks with Luke Arrigoni about the Impact of AI and deep machine learning on human capital. See the video here: https://youtu.be/R-VwQbldYWs. Over the last fifteen years, Luke Arrigoni (https://www.linkedin.com/in/lukearrigoni/) has worked with some of the top brands in the United States building machine learning and data science programs, even before there was such a term. He worked with companies such as UPS, J&J, Getty, AT&T, Stryker, Goldman Sachs, CAA, FOX, Sephora along with others. Luke has media experience explaining to audiences at Bloomberg, WIRED and others on topics such as data’s impact on politics, machine learning, blockchain and other ways that technology intersects in a big way in everyone’s day-to-day life. He built and sold an econometrics business in the past and also has experience with Sino-American trading relationships. He worked with several companies such as J&J and Samsung making him familiar with how to do business with technology and raise products in China. Luke enjoys getting people excited about otherwise dry topics like data by creating a meaningful narrative around how it applies to everyone, even if you don’t know how it impacts you. Luke would make an excellent guest to discuss technology and its impacts on industries. Please consider supporting the HCI Podcast on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=69688020.
