An officially licensed escape room based on The Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn will be opening July 2019 in Seattle Washington. Hourglass Escapes will be adding the third escape room to their top-rate facility that already features the themed rooms Rise of the Mad Pharaoh and Tales of the Ghostly Galleon put together by professionals from the theme park and movie industries. IT 2 star Jessica Chastain recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show and made the spoilerish claim that the upcoming sequel has the bloodiest scene ever in a horror movie. And it involves eyeballs. After the river of blood washing down the hallway in The Shining and Lionel lawn-mowing his way through a mob of undead, can It 2 really have the bloodiest? It just makes us want to see the movie more to find out for ourselves. It promises to be a lot of fun. Here we go... News Features: If you remember the animal musicians from The Banana Splits Adventure Hour as your furry friends, that might change soon. The children’s show that aired from 1968 to 1970, and into syndication after that is going to get a horror retake. Reports are that Warner Brothers and Syfy are teaming up to bring the Splits gang back as a film is about “a boy named Harley” who is celebrating his birthday by attending a Banana Splits TV show taping with his family. Things then “take an unexpected turn, and the body count quickly rises.” Release details are still coming, though Dani Kind, Steve Lund, and Sara Canning will be joining the cast. They are now striving, as a start, to add 30 original movies a year to their lineup including 8 horror movies from Blumhouse this year that will not show in theaters, only exclusively on Amazon. Blumhouse is the company that has brought us tons of great films such as Split, the most recent Halloween, Happy Death Day, and Get Out. Called Hollywood, he describes it in an Instragram post as “a love letter to the Golden Age of Tinseltown.” It’s a deal with Netflix, and will have an initial airing exclusively on that network. No more details at this time, but he teases us that more is to come. This time out, Kevin and Brian look at the 80s horror/comedy, “The Stuff” as well as two short films, “Blackbird” and “Nightcrawler.” Lastly, we check out the recent British film, “Crucible of the Vampire.” News Features: 1. A heads up plan ahead for the Motor City Nightmares convention at the end of April, 2019. The annual event is coming up in Novi, Michigan April 26th through the 28th with all the usual convention goodness of vendors, panels, a film festival, signings, and celebrities the likes of Doug Bradley, Ashley Laurence, Andrew Robinson, and Simon Bamford of Hellraiser fame. It’s reported that Warner Brothers is developing a horror-tinged spinoff to Aquaman that may come out before the Aquaman 2 sequel. Apparently the film will not include any of the superheroes or Atlantiens, but will revolve around some ordinary folks exploring the Mariana Trench encountering the deadly aquatic creatures that attacked Aquaman and Mera in the Aquaman film. 3. The Horror Writers Association has granted Graham Masterson their lifetime achievement award for 2019. His first horror novel The Manitou published in 1976 when he was 30 went on to the big screen movie starring Tony Curtis. He has churned out over 40 horror novels and short story collections as well as numerous historical novels and thrillers. Gizmodo has alerted us to the coming of the new board game Horrified: Universal Monsters by Ravensburger that comes with the tagline “The stakes have been raised.” Working as a team of 2-5 players, the strategy game pits humans against monsters, working to bring them down together. Happy Death Day 2U gets a 2019 Valentine's release with its official opening February 13th, 2019. A sequel to the 2017 film Happy Death Day, it promises more of the dark humor, scares, and gore that made the first one a pretty solid hit. Tree is transported back to the repeating day where she dies over and over again, only this time there are friends stuck in the loop with her. Warning, there is a serious spoiler of the first movie in the preview for the sequel. It also looks like you would get much more out of the sequel if you see the first one first. A trailer for the new Child's Play movie for 2019 has been unboxed (see what I did there), and it looks really awesome. They look like they are going back to the beginning of things for a reboot. It's a bit of a teaser, and Chucky is pretty well hidden in the trailer, but it's enough to get you hooked. It's not clear that there's even a supernatural element to Chucky now, and they may have gone in the direction of science fiction horror. This time around, the Buddi dolls are high tech robot companions made by a Kaslan Corporation, and they have a terrific tie-in website. Here we go... News Features: Deadline.com reports that in part of the Syfy networks effort to expand into horror, a Chucky series is coming to television. They have the rights. They are forming a plan. The project comes from the Chucky movie franchise creator/writer Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner as well as TV writer-producer Nick Antosca (Hulu’s The Act). Will she have to fight, run, or just help them out with skincare? A solid project with Stephen King himself excited and giving his full support, the undated project will be directed by Josh Boone with primary writing by Boone and Ben Cavell. It was previously done as an 8-hour miniseries on ABC in 1994, and Warner Brothers made a launch attempt some time ago that was to be directed by Boone but never went anywhere. Doctor Sleep will star Ewan McGregor as the adult Danny. Directed by Mike Flanagan who most recently brought us Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, the story is set years after the events at the Overlook when a damaged Danny with gifts dulled by age and alcohol becomes involved with a young girl coming to grips with a Shining of her own. The only one appears to be A Quiet Place being a Best Sound Editing nominee. Popsugar reports that a film adaptation of the H. P. Lovecraft horror story The Colour Out of Space begins production in February and is aimed to be completed by the end of 2019. "The Colour Out of Space" is a short story written by Lovecraft in 1927. The story follows a family who moves to Massachusetts. Shortly thereafter, a meteorite of sorts crashes on their land, but it's not any ordinary rock. It begins to "infect" the town; the food that grows is inedible, animals and livestock unravel, and locals either go insane or die. We watch as the family, from the patriarch to the children, slowly crumbles to dust. The film will star the one and only Nicolas Cage and will costar Joely Richardson, Tommy Chong, Elliot Knight, Julian Hilliard, and Q'Orianka Kilcher.
