S5 Ep 3Can Supplements Harm Your Health?

Supplements are so common these days that it’s easy to forget just how powerful they are. You can go to the grocery store, pharmacy, and most prominently, online to find just about anything you need. I think it’s great that access to supplements is so widely available, but the downside to supplements being so readily available is that they are often taken without as much consideration. Because we can add them to our cart so easily, we may not realize that they could cause more harm than good depending on the supplement and the person. Again, supplements are powerful, they are an amazing resource to have, but my goal with this episode is to teach you how to analyze supplements that you’re interested in or that are being marketed to you and know go through a series of questions to have an idea of whether or not they are a good fit for you. I have a bonus episode this week inside Patreon that takes this a step further and highlights certain conditions and supplements that CAN be helpful. You can join my patreon community at patreon.com/hormonehealingrd. As always this is not medical advice. I’m a dietitian but I’m not your dietitian so please talk with your medical provider before making any changes. This episode covers:Supplements & the influencer eraQuestions to ask yourself when considering a supplementCommonly recommended supplements that could cause more harm than goodMineral Quiz: https://hormonehealingrd.com/guides-support/mineral-quiz/Connect with Me: Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/hormonehealingrd Free Thyroid Training: https://hormonehealingrd.ck.page/bc89ec6723 Feminine Periodical (monthly newsletter): https://hormonehealingrd.ck.page/d0317056cd Master Your Minerals course: https://www.hormonehealingrd.com/master-your-minerals-course

S4 Ep 8Iron Deep Dive Part 2

Strap in, we have a controversial one. It’s time for our mineral deep dive on iron! The mineral that gets many people up in arms, probably even more so than copper. In this episode, I will go through the iron recycling system, what we use iron for in the body, and different iron imbalances. The bonus episode will breakdown iron case studies where I show an iron deficiency case and an iron overload case that go through labs. I also have an iron rich foods list with the amount of iron per serving and a sample day showing how you can get 20-25mg of heme iron and 34-38mg of total iron. I also cover how iron impacts estrogen. You can get access to the bonus episode by joining patreon.com/hormonehealingrd. Quick reminder, this podcast is for informational purposes only. S4 Ep 1 Mineral Testing

Welcome to season 4 of the podcast! This season we are focusing on minerals. How to test them, what the different minerals do in our bodies, how they impact our hormones and overall health as well as other systems of the body. We also have some exciting podcast updates. You heard me mention a podcast Patreon in the introduction. You may be thinking, what patreon? The AYM podcast patreon is new! I started it in February as a way to bring the podcast community together and provide more resources to support listeners on their healing journeys. You will still get your weekly episode of the podcast, but it will be a bit shorter (hopefully) and easier to digest. Each week, patrons get a bonus episode of the podcast along with downloadable resources. For example, in this episode I’m focusing on how to test minerals and what different types of tests tell you. The bonus episode is a results review of a hair test and blood work to help bring all the principles of the episode together. The downloadable resource is a PDF of the main principles of mineral testing and lab testing resources. When the podcast isn’t in season, I am creating content based off monthly surveys to ensure I’m giving members the resources they need. This tier is $10. I also have an exclusive tier that is $20 a month and allows you to submit a voicemail question that I answer during a pre-recorded Q&A. Lindsey is a Nervous System Based Chiropractor, Mercier Therapist, Birth Doula, NLP Practitioner, and Strength and Conditioning Coach. Through all the hats she wears in this world, she created BIRTHFIT as she saw a huge gap for sustainable, nervous system based movement and training for women in all chapters and cycles of their lives, specifically cycling, preconception, pregnant, and postpartum women. Beyond BIRTHFIT, Lindsey works in her chiropractic wellness practice, Willow Haus, that she co founded with Dr. Bria and Matt Mutch. Majority, if not all, of her clientele that she sees in office are women and pediatrics. In her spare time, Lindsey enjoys connecting with her husband Lance, working in her garden, and taking long, slow walks. Lindsey’s core values are LOVE, FREEDOM, and CONNECTION. As always, this podcast is for informational purposes only. Please make sure you talk with your medical provider about what’s best for you. S3 Ep 10Copper Deep Dive

I have another deep dive episode for you! In this episode, we are focusing on copper. I have a podcast episode that I did in season one that’s all about the connection between copper and iron, but copper deserves its own episode. I will also do a separate deep dive on iron in season 4 of the podcast next year where I will be doing all deep dives for one season. Just a reminder before we jump into today’s episode. This podcast is for informational purposes only. I will be mentioning some lab values, foods, and supplements surrounding copper, but it’s important you talk about any changes you’re considering with your medical provider. S3 Ep 6Histamine Intolerance 101

In this episode, I am breaking down a popular topic in the wellness world: histamines! I get a lot of questions about histamine intolerance and if people should cut out x, y, z foods. As usual, I don’t recommend going straight to cutting out foods. Can that help in the short term with symptoms? Yes, but it’s not getting to the root of the issue. This doesn’t mean you can’t cut out certain things that are causing you discomfort to get some relief, but hopefully this podcast episode will inspire you to work on other areas as well. S2 Ep 17Holistic Dentistry with Dr. Kelly Blodgett

I have a special episode of the podcast this week. I’m sharing an interview I did on holistic dentistry inside the Hormone Healing Membership* with Dr. Kelly Blodgett. Dr. Blodgett is a native Oregonian who attended grade school through high school in Southwest Portland. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Oregon and completed his pre-doctoral sciences at Portland State University. Dr. Blodgett attended the OHSU School of Dentistry and graduated in June of 1999 where he earned the “Going the Extra Mile” award from his own classmates. Throughout his career, he’s become a recognized leader in minimally-invasive dentistry, dental lasers, computerized dental technology, and holistic care. He has been featured in numerous dental journals, on television, and in magazines for the innovative care he provides. He is truly a modern pioneer in progressive dental care. Dr. Blodgett and his wife, Julie, have been married since 1994 and have two beautiful daughters: Sara, born in 2002, and Megan, born in 2005. They reside in Southwest Portland, just up the hill from his high school alma mater, Wilson High School. The reason Dr. Blodgett’s work is so appealing to me is because of how he truly takes the word holistic to heart. He wants to know everything he can about a patient and take the whole person, their mental/emotional/physical health history, and how they feel into consideration when advising. Advising is the keyword here. He wants his patients to decide what is best and fully respects each and every decision. That’s not easy to find, even in functional medicine. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!*If you’re wondering what this membership is, it’s a special space on the internet for those that have gone through the Master Your Minerals course and want more support. It’s actually where I spend most of my time and is one of my favorite things I do. We have an online community in Circle, office hours twice a month, monthly meal plans, guest experts, regular lessons, and so much more! If you’re in the Master Your Minerals course, you can find more information about the membership and the link to sign up under the Welcome section of the course in a lesson titled “Looking For More Support?”. In this episode, we are focusing on strength training and how it can help support healthy hormones. I’m joined by my friend and colleague, Adina Rubin. Adina is a Strength Coach and Nutritional Therapy Practitioner that specializes in helping women gain energy and get strong. After driving herself into the ground with years of under-eating, doing way too many HIIT classes and taking hormonal birth control, Adina realized that real food, strength training and stress management were the keys to vibrant and optimal health and she set out on a mission to share that with as many women as possible. Through her signature program Strength Training for Happy Hormones, Adina uses low rep kettlebell training with a major emphasis on pelvic floor health to make strength as accessible as possible no matter what stage of life you’re in or where you are on your healing journey. As a Certified Russian Kettlebell Instructor, Prenatal and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist, Restorative Wellness Practitioner and Root Cause Protocol Consultant, Adina has shaped her unique framework to help women achieve optimal hormone and metabolic health. Adina began unlocking her own optimal physical and mental health when she trained competitively for powerlifting and she thinks all women need to learn what it feels like to lift heavy things. She wants you to know, you’re stronger than you think you are. S2 Ep 15Third Trimester Pregnancy Update

I have a fun episode for you today! I’m doing a third trimester pregnancy update. So many of you found the first and second trimester recap I did helpful, so I thought I would do a third trimester one and answer some of the questions submitted on Instagram. My first and second trimester were pretty smooth. I have honestly felt really good throughout this pregnancy. I will say after recording that update talking about how good I felt, one week later (when I officially entered the third trimester and hit 28 weeks) I woke up with eczema around my eyes and really bad pubic pain. Nine weeks later my eczema has pretty much cleared up and the pubic pain has reduced/I’ve learned to manage it, but wow, did I learn a lot the last couple of months. I’m extremely fortunate that as soon as I had an issue I easily found a resource to help me (it really helps working in the women’s health space). I’m hoping by sharing this information it helps those that don’t have as much access. S2 Ep 13How To Transition Off Hormonal Birth Control

Are You Menstrual? – In this episode, I’m covering a highly requested topic: how to support your body when transitioning off of hormonal birth control. Coming off the birth control pill is what sparked my own hormone healing journey and there’s so much that I wish I knew back then that I will be sharing with you in this episode. We will be focusing on five main areas that you want to consider when rebalancing post birth control. These are what I find the most important to address with clients and my own experience. One quick thing I want to note is that you can apply pretty much all of these principles to support your body while continuing hormonal birth control as well. This is probably the top question I get when I talk about this, so I figured I’d address it right away. If you’re currently on hormonal birth control and plan on staying on, this episode is still for you. S2 Ep 9Getting to the Root Cause of Hair Loss

Are You Menstrual? – In this episode, we are taking a deep dive into what causes hair loss and how we can support healthy hair. As with most things related to women’s health, the topic of hair loss is complicated. Rarely is there a sole reason for hair loss. For example, hypothyroidism and inadequate thyroid hormone levels are among the most common causes of hair loss. The underlying question then becomes what is causing the hypothyroidism? More often than not, it is not merely one cause. There are a few things to consider, such as the individual’s nutrition, lifestyle, and stress level. Are they eating enough? Are they consuming enough nutrient-dense foods? Do they have a nutrient deficiency that isn’t being met by their current diet? How stressed are they? Cortisol, a stress hormone, directly blocks the conversion of thyroid hormone. When it comes to supporting healthy hair and healing hair loss, we have to consider several different areas, which is what we are going to get into in this episode. ~Links/Resources:Free Training: Optimizing Hormone Health with Mineral BalanceMineral Imbalance QuizFree Healthy Period Starter Guide: http://bit.ly/healthy-period-guide Episode 2: Nourishing Nutrition Foundation: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/nourishing-nutrition-foundation/id1568547321?i=1000525418203 Episode 6: Copper and Iron: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-connection-between-copper-iron/id1568547321?i=1000528570432 Episode 8: Supplements That Do More Harm Than Good: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/supplements-that-do-more-harm-than-good/id1568547321?i=1000530004049 Vitamin E supplement: https://bit.ly/36k4Hy2 Iodine hair loss blog: http://msfullhair.com/topical-iodine-alopecia-areata-cure/ Morrocco Method ACV Shampoo: https://shop.morroccomethod.com/products/apple-cider-vinegar-shampoo?variant=40217963135185 Morrocco Method Detox Mask: https://shop.morroccomethod.com/products/zen-detox-hair-scalp-masque?variant=40218202276049 Morrocco Method Bristle Brush: https://shop.morroccomethod.com/products/mixed-pure-boar-bristle-and-nylon-brush-small Morrocco Method Shampoo bar: https://shop.morroccomethod.com/products/shampoo-bar?variant=40296561541329Under Luna Warrior Shampoo: https://underluna.com/collections/all-products/products/warrior-shampoo
