Check out this Two-Minute Tip, The Universal Talk, all about communicating your child’s value as someone created by God.DownloadIn the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was empty, formless, and dark. But the Spirit of God was there. On the first day, God said, “Let there be light.” And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.”On the second day, God said, “Let there be a space to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth.” God called the space “sky.”On the third day, God said, “Let the waters beneath the sky flow together into one place, so dry ground may appear.” God called the dry ground “land” and the waters “seas.” And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let the land sprout with every sort of plant and tree.” And God saw that it was good.On the fourth day, God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night.” God made two great lights—the sun for the day and the moon for the night. He also made the stars. God set these lights in the sky to light the earth. And God saw that it was good.On the fifth day God said, “Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind.” And God saw that it was good. On the sixth day, God said, “Let the earth make every sort of animal.” God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to have babies of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, to be like us.”So God created man in his own image. He formed man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into man and man became alive. Then he saw that the man needed a helper. So God put man into a deep sleep and while he slept, God took out one of the man’s ribs. Then God made a woman from the rib and brought her to the man. Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and rule over it. Rule over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”Then God said, “Look! I have given you every plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food. And I have given every green plant as food for all the animals.”Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good!So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was done. So on the seventh day God rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and said it was holy.

While Peter was in prison, the people of the church prayed for him. The night before Peter was supposed to go to trial, he was sleeping. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord stood before him. The angel woke Peter up and said, “Quick! Get up!” The chains fell off Peter’s wrists. Then the angel told him to get up and get ready to go, and to follow him. So Peter left the cell but all the time he thought what was happening wasn’t real and that it was just a vision. They passed by the guards and when they came to the iron gate it opened for them on its own. They were walking through the street when the angel suddenly left him. Peter finally realized that this was all really happening and that God had sent an angel to save him from what King Herod and the Jewish leaders had planned to do to him! He went to the home of Mary where many believers were together praying. When Peter knocked at the door a servant girl came to answer. When she realized it was Peter she was so excited that she ran inside to tell people instead of letting Peter in. The people inside thought that girl was wrong and said, “It must be Peter’s angel.” But Peter kept knocking. When the people finally opened the door, they were amazed! Peter told them what had happened and all about how God sent an angel to rescue him from prison.

They followed Jesus during his time on earth. Before Jesus went to heaven, He told them to stay in Jerusalem until God sent the gift he promised. So after Jesus went to heaven the apostles stayed in Jerusalem along with the other people who believed in Jesus. One day they were all gathered together when there was a sound from heaven like a mighty windstorm! Then what looked like flames appeared and settled on each of them and everyone was filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gave them the ability to speak in other languages and so they started speaking. At that time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem. When they heard the loud noise, they came running to see what it was. When they saw the believers speaking in their own languages, they were shocked and amazed! They wondered, “How can this be? These people are from Galilee and yet we hear them speaking in our own native languages about the wonderful things God has done! What can this mean?” But others in the crowds didn’t believe that it was really a miracle and thought the believers were just acting oddly. Then Peter stepped forward and shouted to the crowd, “Listen carefully all you!” He told them that they were not acting strangely but that this was from God. He reminded them that God said this would happen long ago. Then Peter told them about how Jesus was crucified but then raised to life again just as God had said he would be. He told them that Jesus was now in heaven and that God had given the Holy Spirit to them as he had promised. Peter’s words changed what the people thought and felt, and they asked, “Brothers, what should we do?”Peter told them, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Peter continued to preach to the crowd for a long time and those who believed what Peter said were baptized. 3000 people were baptized and added to the church that day. Then all the believers listened to the apostles teaching and practiced what they taught. They met together in fellowship, shared meals, and prayed together. They were greatly amazed as the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. All the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They helped those in need, worshipped together at the temple every day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy all while praising God and enjoying each other. And each day God added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

We referenced the following Biblical passages: Matthew 2. Hey-O Kids Curriculum’s primary goal with the Stories of the Bible is to tell the stories from God’s word accurately and in a way that is engaging to children of all ages. This is Jesus! Jesus is the Son of God who would grow up to do amazing things. His parents on earth were Mary and Joseph. Jesus was born in a barn because there was no room for him anywhere else in Bethlehem. Bethlehem was part of Judea, an area that was ruled by a king named Herod. King Herod was in Jerusalem when some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem asking, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose and we have come to worship him.”When Herod heard that there was another king born in Judea he was very upset, as was everyone else in Jerusalem. So Herod called all the important priests and Jews together and asked them where this king was supposed to be born. The Jews knew that their king would eventually come and it was always told to them that the king of the Jews, the savior of the world would be born in Bethlehem. So they told that to king Herod. Then King Herod thought of a way to trick the wise men, so he called a private meeting with them and learned from them when the king of the Jews’ star first appeared. And then King Herod told the wise men, “Go to Bethlehem and search carefully for the child. And when you find him, come back and tell me so that I can go and worship him, too!” But secretly Herod wanted to know where the king of the Jews was so he could get rid of him. So the wise men went on their way. And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem. It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where Jesus was, and the wise men were filled with joy! They went into the house and saw Mary and Jesus and they bowed down and worshipped Jesus. They gave him special gifts fit for the king that he was - gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Then God warned them in a dream to not go home through Jerusalem where king Herod was, but God told them to go home a different way. So they did and then an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and said “Get up!” The angel told Joseph to go to Egypt with Mary and Jesus because Herod was looking to kill Jesus. That very night, Joseph left for Egypt with Jesus and Mary. They stayed in Egypt until Herod was gone and it was safe for them to go home to Israel. When they returned, an angel warned them about the new ruler of Judea who was Herod’s son, so Joseph and his family went to the region of Galilee and found their new home in the town of Nazareth where Jesus would grow up and eventually do all the amazing things God planned for him to do!

The Savior, yes the Messiah, the Lord has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!”The angel told the shepherds that they would find Jesus in a barn wrapped in strips of cloth, laying in a manger. Then the angel was joined by many, many other angels, and all of them sang, “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.” Then the angels returned to heaven and the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go to Bethlehem!” So they hurried to the village and found the baby Jesus laying in the manger. After seeing Jesus, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had told them about the baby Jesus. Everyone who heard the shepherds’ story were amazed. Mary made sure she remembered all these things and thought about them often. Then shepherds went back to their sheep, and praised God for all they had seen. The baby was exactly who the angel had told them he was - the Savior of the world, the Son of God!

He will be very great and he will be the king forever!”Mary asked, “But how can this happen?” For she was not married yet and knew that she couldn’t have a child until she was married. But the angel told Mary that the Holy Spirit would make her pregnant, so that the baby born will be holy and will be called the Son of God! The angel reminded her that, “Nothing is impossible with God!”So Mary decided to trust God and all that he had planned for her. Before their wedding, Joseph found out that Mary was pregnant. He thought she had done something wrong. But Joseph was a man of God and decided to break off the engagement quietly so no one around town would think badly of Mary. While Joseph was thinking about all this, an angel appeared to him in a dream. The angel said, “Joseph, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife.” The angel explained that Mary’s baby was from God. The angel told Joseph that the baby’s name would be Jesus and he would save his people from their sins. And when Joseph woke up he did as the angel told him to and took Mary as his wife while she was still pregnant with the Son of God. Who is the son of God and the Savior of the world. While Jesus was on earth, He taught everyone about God’s love. He did many miracles and healed people of their sickness. One day Jesus was walking with His disciples when He saw a man who was born blind. That means this man could not see. His disciples wondered whose fault it was that this man was blind and asked Jesus, “Why was this man born blind? Was it because he sinned or because his parents sinned?”Jesus told them it was not because anyone sinned, but rather it was because the power of God could be shown through this man’s life. Then Jesus spit on the ground and made mud. He spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes and told him, “Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam.” So the man went and did as Jesus said and he could see!The man’s neighbors and others who knew him as the blind man wondered if this was the same man. They said, “No, he just looks like him!”But the blind man kept saying, “Yes, it’s me!” So the people asked, “Who healed you? What happened?” And the man told them all that Jesus had done for him. The people asked, “Where is Jesus now?” But the man didn’t know. So the people took the man to the Pharisees because it was the Sabbath, the day of rest, and they thought Jesus shouldn’t have made mud and healed the man on the Sabbath. The Pharisees asked the man so many questions and he answered them. He told them, “I was blind but now I can see!” The Pharisees kept asking more questions. They even brought his parents in to ask them, but they wouldn’t answer. Finally the man had enough and yelled, “Look! I told you once. Why do you want to hear it again? If this man were not from God, he couldn’t have made me see!”The Pharisees were so mad at the man for saying this that they threw him out of the synagogue.Jesus heard what happened and He found the man and asked him, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”The man answered, “Who is he, sir? I want to believe in him.”“You have seen him,” Jesus said, “and he is speaking to you!”“Yes, Lord, I believe!” the man said. And he worshiped Jesus.

I am here!”Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.”So Jesus said, “Yes, come.”So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted.Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. Jesus said, “You have so little faith. But what good is that with this huge crowd?”Jesus said, “Tell everyone to sit down.” Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and gave them to the people. Afterward He did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted. She kissed his feet and put the perfume on them. Simon saw this and said to himself, “If this man really were a prophet, he’d know what kind of woman is touching him. She’s a sinner!” Then Jesus said, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he told him this story - “A man loaned money to two people—500 pieces of silver to one and 50 pieces to the other. But neither of them could repay him, so he kindly forgave them both, canceling their debts. Who do you suppose loved him more after that?”Simon said that he guessed that one who owed him more loved him more. When I entered your home, you didn’t offer me water to wash the dust from my feet, but she has washed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair.” “I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” Then Jesus said to the woman, “Your sins are forgiven.”The men at the table said among themselves, “Who is this man, that he goes around forgiving sins?”And Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

You will always have the poor among you, and you can help them whenever you want to. But you will not always have me. She has poured this perfume on me to prepare my body for burial. Jesus came to a Samaritan village and stopped at a well to rest. His disciples went to the village to buy some food, so Jesus was alone. At about noon, a Samaritan woman came to the well to get water. Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.”The woman was surprised because Jesus was a Jew and Jews refused to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?”Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”The woman was confused and asked where Jesus would get water like that when he didn’t even have a bucket to pull water from the well. Jesus said to her, “Those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”The woman asked Jesus for this water so she would never be thirsty again. Jesus then showed the woman that he knew things about her that she never told him, and the woman said, “You must be a prophet!” Then she asked Jesus why Samaritans worshipped in one place while Jews worshipped in another place. Jesus told her that there would be a time coming when it wouldn’t matter where people worshipped. He said, “The time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.”The woman said, “I know the Messiah is coming—the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”Jesus told her, “I am the Messiah!”Just then Jesus’ disciples came back. They were shocked to find him talking to a woman, but they were too nervous to ask him why. The woman ran back to the village and told everyone to come see Jesus. She said, “He told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?” Many Samaritans from the village believed in Jesus because of what the woman had said. When they came out to see him, they begged him to stay. So he stayed for two days and many more heard what he had to say and believed in him. Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not just because of what you told us, but because we have heard him ourselves. Now we know that he is indeed the Savior of the world.”

Jesus told them many things of what was to come and the trials they would face. Then Jesus told his disciples that he is like the true grapevine and God is the gardener. God will cut off any branch that doesn’t produce fruit. He will also prune a branch, so it can produce more fruit. Jesus told his disciples that God had already done this to them because of what Jesus had taught them. Jesus said, “Remain in me and I will remain with you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is cut off from the vine.” Then he said, “Yes I am the vine and you are the branches.” He told them that if they continued to have a relationship with him, they would produce much fruit. But if they didn’t continue to have a relationship with him, they would wither away. Branches that wither away like that are thrown into the fire. Jesus said that if his disciples remained in him that they would be able to ask anything in Jesus name and it would be given. They would bear much fruit, and this would bring great glory to God. Then Jesus said that he loved his disciples as God the Father loved him. He told his disciples to remain in his love by obeying his commandments. Then he gave them a new commandment – to love each other in the same way that he loved them. Jesus told his disciples that they were his friends. He said, “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” He told them all this so that they would have great joy!

When Jesus came to that place, he looked up and saw Zacchaeus in the tree. He said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down! I must stay at your house today.”Zacchaeus came down quickly. He was pleased to have Jesus in his house. All the people saw this and began to complain, “Look at the kind of man Jesus stays with. Zacchaeus is a sinner!”But Zacchaeus said to Jesus, “I will give half of my money to the poor. If I have cheated anyone, I will pay that person back four times more!”Jesus said, “Salvation has come to this house today. This man truly belongs to the family of Abraham. The Son of Man came to find lost people and save them.”

One of the Pharisees, named Simon, asked Jesus to have dinner with him. So Jesus went to Simon’s home for dinner and everyone was watching Jesus closely. Jesus noticed that all the people at the dinner were trying to sit at the best seats at the table. So he told them this story: “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, don’t take the most important seat. The host may have invited someone more important than you. And if you are sitting in the most important seat, the host will come to you and say, ‘Give this man your seat.’ Then you will begin to move down to the last place. And you will be very embarrassed. “So when you are invited, go sit in a seat that is not important. Then the host will come to you and say, ‘Friend, we have a better place for you!’ Then all the other guests will respect you. Everyone who makes himself great will be made humble. But the person who makes himself humble will be made great.”

He told them that the kingdom of heaven would be like man going on a trip, who asked three servants to take care of his money. The man gave each of his servants different amounts of money according to their ability. To one of his servants, he gave five bags of money, he gave another two bags, and he gave the third servant one bag of money. Then he went on his trip. The man who had been given five bags of money invested the money and gained five more bags. The servant with two bags of money did the same and got two more bags of money. But the man who had one bag of money put it in a hole and hid the money. After a long time, the man came back from his trip and checked in with his servants to see what they had done with his money. The servant who was given five bags of money showed that he had gained five more. And the man said, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You did well with small things. So I will let you care for much greater things.”Then the servant with two bags of money showed that he had gained two more. And the man was happy and said well done to the servant. Then the servant who hid the money showed the man the one bag of money and said that he had hidden it because he was afraid. The man said, “You wicked, lazy servant!” He said that he should have at least put the money in the bank to get interest. Then he threw out the servant so he would serve him no more. And the man took the money from the servant and gave it to the servant with ten bags. For he said, “Everyone who uses what he has will get more. He will have much more than he needs. But the one who does not use what he has will have everything taken away from him.”

Then God will reward you for inviting those who could not repay you.”When a man at the table heard what Jesus said, he said to Jesus, “What a blessing it will be to attend a banquet in the Kingdom of God!”Jesus replied with a story: A man prepared a great feast and sent out many invitations. When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to tell the guests, “Come, the banquet is ready.”But they all began making excuses. One said, “I have just bought a field and must inspect it. Please excuse me.” Another said, “I have just bought five pairs of oxen, and I want to try them out. Please excuse me.” Another said, “I just got married, so I can’t come.”The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master was furious and said, “Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and invite the poor, and those who have trouble seeing and walking.” After the servant had done this, he reported, “There is still room for more.” So his master said, “Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full. For none of those I first invited will get even the smallest taste of my banquet.”

We referenced the following Biblical passages: Luke 15:11–32. Hey-O Kids Curriculum’s primary goal with the Stories of the Bible is to tell the stories from God’s word accurately and in a way that is engaging to children of all ages. This is Jesus. Who is the Son of God And the Savior of the World. While Jesus was on earth he healed many people from their sickness, performed many miracles like calming storms, and even raised people from the dead. Jesus taught everyone about God’s love. All kinds of people would come to hear Jesus speak including tax collectors and people who made bad choices. This made the Pharisees and Jewish leaders mad. They didn’t think that Jesus should be around these kinds of people. So Jesus told them this story - A man had two sons. The younger son told his father, “I want my share of your estate now before you die.” So his father agreed and gave his son his inheritance.A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and moved to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money in wild living. About the time his money ran out, a great famine swept over the land, and he began to starve. He convinced a local farmer to hire him, and the man sent him into his fields to feed the pigs. The young man became so hungry that even the food he was feeding the pigs looked good to him. But no one gave him anything. Finally he said to himself, “At home even the servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger! I will go home to my father and apologize and ask him to take me on as a servant.”So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son. His son said to him, “Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.”But his father said to the servants, “Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.” So the party began.Meanwhile, the older son was in the fields working. When he returned home, he heard music and dancing in the house, and he asked one of the servants what was going on. “Your brother is back,” he was told, “and your father has killed the fattened calf. We are celebrating because of his safe return.”The older brother was angry and wouldn’t go in. His father came out and begged him, but he replied, “All these years I’ve slaved for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And in all that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends. Yet when this son of yours comes back after wasting your money, you celebrate by giving him a great feast!”His father said to him, “Look, dear son, you have always stayed by me, and everything I have is yours. We had to celebrate this happy day. For your brother was dead and has come back to life! He was lost, but now he is found!”

One day a religious expert stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: “Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?”Jesus replied, “What does the law say?”The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”“Right!” Jesus told him. “Do this and you will live!”The man then asked, “And who is my neighbor?”Jesus replied with a story: “A Jewish man was traveling from Jerusalem down to Jericho, and he was attacked by bandits. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him up, and left him half dead beside the road.By chance a priest came along. But when he saw the man lying there, he crossed to the other side of the road and passed him by. Another man who worked in the temple who was called a Levite walked over and looked at him lying there, but he also passed by on the other side. Then a Samaritan came along. Samaritans were hated by Jews, they were seen as lesser people and Jews would not interact with them. But when the Samaritan saw the man, he felt compassion for him. Going over to him, the Samaritan soothed his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him. The next day he handed the innkeeper two silver coins, telling him, ‘Take care of this man. If his bill runs higher than this, I’ll pay you the next time I’m here.’“Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by bandits?” Jesus asked. The man replied, “The one who showed him mercy.”Then Jesus said, “Yes, now go and do the same.”

A great crowd gathered around him, so he got in a boat and told them many things in parables. He told them this story - A farmer went out to plant some seed. As he scattered it across his field, some of the seed fell on a footpath, where it was stepped on, and the birds came and ate it. Other seed fell on shallow soil among rocks. The seed began to grow quickly because the soil was shallow. But the plant soon wilted under the hot sun, and since it didn’t have deep roots, it died. Other seed fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants. Still other seed fell on fertile soil. This seed grew and produced a crop that was a hundred times as much as had been planted! When Jesus had said this, he called out, “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.” Later, the disciples came to Jesus and asked what this parable meant. Jesus said, “The farmer plants seed by taking God’s word to others. The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message, only to have Satan come at once and take it away. The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are treated badly for believing God’s word. The seed that fell among the thorns represents others who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the desire for other things. And the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear and accept God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!”

Jesus looked at Simon and said, “Your name is Simon, son of John - but you will be called Peter.”On another day, Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee and lots of people crowded around him to hear what He had to say.Jesus noticed two empty boats for Andrew and Peter had left them and were washing their nets. Jesus stepped into one of the boats and asked Peter to take him out into the sea. So He sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there. When He had finished speaking, He said to Peter, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”But Peter said, “We worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! They called to some other fishermen for help and soon both boats were filled with fish. When Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.”Jesus replied to Peter, “Don’t be afraid! Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” And as soon as they landed, they left their nets and followed Jesus. So Simon Peter became one of Jesus’ 12 disciples and followed his friend Jesus throughout his time on earth.

They were men who followed Jesus during his time on earth. There were 12 disciples. Some were fishermen like Peter, Andrew, James, and John. Some were tax collectors like Matthew. Some were even brothers like Peter and Andrew or James and John. These 12 men saw Jesus do amazing things like calming storms, turning water into wine, healing people from sickness, helping people who were blind see, making people who couldn’t walk, walk, and even raising people from the dead. They heard Jesus teach about God’s love and tell stories that taught them and others about the kingdom of heaven. Jesus would often turn to them and teach them what these stories meant. Of the 12 disciples, there were three that were the closest to Jesus. Their names were Peter, James, and John. These three got to see Jesus do miracles that others did not. They even got to see him transformed on a mountain and got to see Jesus’ face shine with the glory of God.On the night he was arrested, one of Jesus’ disciples named Judas betrayed Jesus. The disciples were with Jesus before he was arrested. They were afraid when he was taken and put to death on the cross. They hid and didn’t know what to do until they heard that Jesus was alive! For 40 days, Jesus appeared to the disciples. Jesus showed them and others that he was truly alive. He told his disciple Thomas that he could touch the marks from the cross on his hands and side so he would know that it was really Jesus. Jesus promised his disciples that he would send them the Holy Spirit to be their helper. He told his disciples to go and make disciples of all nations. Then Jesus went to heaven. The disciples waited, just as Jesus told them, for the Holy Spirit to come. And the Holy Spirit did come and fill them with power. They went to teach the new disciples to obey all the commands Jesus had given them and baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Some wrote letters to the new churches to encourage them and teach them about God’s commands. Some of the disciples like Matthew and John wrote down the stories of Jesus’ time on earth so that all who read the words would believe that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of God. The disciples went on to tell the good news of Jesus wherever they went, and many of the people they shared with came to believe and follow Jesus. The disciples started the church and were persecuted because of their faith, but they never stopped preaching about Jesus.

We referenced the following Biblical passages: Nehemiah 1-13. Hey-O Kids Curriculum’s primary goal with the Stories of the Bible is to tell the stories from God’s word accurately and in a way that is engaging to children of all ages. This is Nehemiah who was a Jewish man who worked for Persian king Artaxerxes, the king of Babylon. Many of the Jews were sent to Babylon years before because they had disobeyed God and followed after other gods. One day Nehemiah heard a report that the Jews who had returned to Judah were having a hard time and that the walls of Jerusalem were broken down and the gates had been burned. This made Nehemiah sad. He didn’t eat any food for days and prayed to God for the Jews. He told God he was sorry for the wrong things he and his people had done. He reminded God of his promises and that God had said, “If you obey my commands, I will gather you together again.” Nehemiah asked for God to give him success as he went to ask the king for help. Nehemiah then went to do his job for the king. The king asked why Nehemiah was sad, so Nehemiah told the king about his people in Judah. Nehemiah prayed and told the king he wanted to rebuild the city of Jerusalem. He asked for letters from the king that would help him travel safely to Jerusalem and get the supplies he needed to rebuild the city. God helped Nehemiah and the king gave Nehemiah all he asked for. Nehemiah went to Jerusalem and checked out the walls. He went to the people and said, “Come on. Let’s rebuild the wall of Jerusalem.” And the people agreed and started that good work. Meanwhile, there were some officials from nearby lands who heard Nehemiah was rebuilding the wall and were upset. They laughed at the Jews and made fun of them. But Nehemiah said, “The God of heaven will give us success. We serve him.” Many Jews worked together to rebuild the wall including the priests, men who worked with gold, a man who made perfume, leaders from nearby villages, servants, guards, traders, and daughters as well. All the people worked with all their hearts. The officials from other lands planned to fight the Jews. But the Jews prayed to God and put guards on duty day and night. Nehemiah stationed people to defend the city where it was weak. From that day on, half of the people did the work with swords at their sides, and the other half were armed to defend the people working and the city. Nehemiah reminded them, “Our God will fight for us!” They worked from sunrise until the stars came out. The people in the city were being treated wrongly and this made Nehemiah very angry. He helped the people in the city get food and the money they needed to live. He corrected the leaders who were not helping the people as they should. He told them, “What you are doing isn’t right.” The leaders promised to do the things the way Nehemiah said. After 52 days, the city wall was finally finished! All of Judah’s enemies were afraid because they realized that God had helped finish the work. Jerusalem was large. It had a lot of room. But only a few people lived there. So God gave Nehemiah the idea to gather more people to come and live in Jerusalem now that the wall had been rebuilt, and many people returned home to Israel as God gathered his people together again. A teacher of God’s law named Ezra came and read the Book of the Law to all the people who could understand. The Israelites admitted they had sinned, worshipped God, and promised to follow God’s commands. Nehemiah was the governor of Judah for twelve years, then he went back to his job with the king of Babylon. Sometime later, Nehemiah returned to Jerusalem and found that some of the Israelites had not kept their promise to God. Nehemiah tried to set everything right and then he prayed to God saying, “You are my God. Please remember me with kindness.”

We referenced the following Biblical passages: Esther 3-5. Hey-O Kids Curriculum’s primary goal with the Stories of the Bible animation is to tell the stories from God’s word accurately and in a way that is engaging to children of all ages. This is Esther who was Jewish orphan who lived in Persia during the reign of King Xerxes. Esther was adopted by her relative, Mordecai who worked in the palace of the king. Once Mordecai had even saved the king’s life. Esther became the queen of Persia, but no one knew that she was a Jew because Mordecai told her to keep it a secret. This is Haman who was the second most powerful man in Persia. Haman hated Mordecai because Mordecai wouldn’t bow down to him. So Haman convinced King Xerxes to make a decree to kill all Mordecai’s people, the Jews. When Mordecai learned about this, he was very upset as were all the Jews in Persia. When Queen Esther’s servants came and told her about how upset Mordecai was, she sent one of her servants, Hathach, to go to Mordecai and find out what was troubling him. So Hathach went out to Mordecai and Mordecai told him of the plan to kill God’s people. Mordecai said that he wanted Esther to go to the king to ask for him to save the Jews. Esther knew that anyone who went to the king without being called could be put to death. But Mordecai reminded Esther that she may have been made queen for such a time as this.So Esther asked for the Jews to pray for her and fast for three days. Then Esther put on her royal robes and went before the king. When the King saw Esther, he was happy to see her and asked, “What do you want, Queen Esther? I will give it to you, even if it is half the kingdom!”So Esther asked the king if he and Haman would come to a banquet that she had prepared for them and the king agreed. Esther held a banquet and then asked the king and Haman to come to a second banquet the next night. That night, the king was reminded of how Mordecai had once saved his life. King Xerxes decided that he must honor Mordecai and that Haman would help. Then at the second banquet, Esther told the king about the plot against her people. The king was angry and asked, “Who would do such a thing?” Esther said it was Haman and the king ordered Haman to be killed on that very night. But the decree to kill all the Jews was still in place and the Jew’s were still in danger. So Mordecai asked the king to issue a new decree so that the Jews could defend themselves. The king did and the Jews defeated all their enemies. God’s people were saved and celebrated their great victory!

We referenced the following Biblical passages: Daniel 6. Hey-O Kids Curriculum’s primary goal with the Stories of the Bible animation is to tell the stories from God’s word accurately and in a way that is engaging to children of all ages. This is Daniel who was a Jewish man who was taken to Babylon when he was very young. Daniel loved God and followed God’s rules. He talked to God three times a day and asked God for help often. Daniel served in the Babylonian king’s court for many years and under many kings. Daniel always proved himself to be more capable than all the other court officials. Daniel was serving under King Darius and because of his great abilities, the king made plans to place him in charge of the entire empire. The other court officials searched for some fault in Daniel, but they couldn’t find anything wrong with him. He was faithful, responsible and completely trustworthy. The court officials realized the only way to get at Daniel would be to challenge his faith. So they went to King Darius and advised him to make a law that for the next thirty days any person who prays to anyone except king Darius will be thrown into the lion’s den. King Darius signed this law and once a Babylonian king signed a law, it could not be overruled. When Daniel learned of this law, he went home and knelt down as he always did to pray in his room with the windows open towards Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he always had done, giving thanks to God and asking for His help. The officials went to Daniel’s house and found him praying. They went to the king and reminded him of the law. Then they said that Daniel had been found praying to God three times a day. When the king heard this, he was very upset and he spent the whole day trying to think of a way to save Daniel. By that evening the court officials came back to the king and reminded him that no law signed by the Babylonian king could be overruled. So at last, the king gave orders for Daniel to be thrown into the lion’s den. The king said to him, “May your God, whom you serve faithfully, rescue you.” Then the lion’s den was sealed shut with Daniel inside. The king spent the night fasting and couldn’t sleep. Then very early in the morning, the king hurried to the lion’s den. He called out, “Daniel! Was your God able to rescue you from the lions?”And Daniel answered, “Long live the king! My God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they would not hurt me, for I have been found innocent in his sight.”The king was overjoyed and ordered that Daniel be taken out of the lion’s den. Then the king ordered the men who had schemed against Daniel to be thrown in the lion’s den as punishment. Daniel was safe, there was not a scratch on him, for he trusted in God.

We referenced the following Biblical passages: Daniel 3. Hey-O Kids Curriculum’s primary goal with the Stories of the Bible animation is to tell the stories from God’s word accurately and in a way that is engaging to children of all ages. There once were three Jewish men named Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. When they were very young, they were taken from Israel to live in a place called Babylon. At that time the king of Babylon was a man named Nebuchadnezzar and he made a gold statue that was ninety feet tall. The king sent a message for everyone to come to the dedication of his statue. When everyone had assembled, it was declared that people of all races, nations, languages would bow before the statue and worship King Nebuchadnezzar’s statue when they heard the sound of musical instruments. If anyone refused, they would be thrown into a fiery furnace. So at the sound of the musical instruments, all the people bowed to the ground and worshipped. But Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did not because they were Jewish and would only bow to the one, true God. Some of the wise men of Babylon went to the king and told him that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow to the statue. This made the king very angry and he asked Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego if it was true that they would not bow to the statue. Then he said that he would give them one more chance to bow down, and if they did not bow they would be thrown into the fire. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied that they didn’t need to defend themselves against the king. They said, “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”The king was so angry with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that he commanded the furnace to be heated seven times hotter than usual. Then he ordered Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to be bound and thrown in the fire. The fire was so hot that it killed the soldiers that threw them in. So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego fell into the flames. But suddenly, the king jumped up and said to his advisors, “Didn’t we tie up three men and throw them in the furnace?”The advisors said yes, but the king said, “Look! I see four men walking around the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a god!” Then the king shouted to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, “Come out!”So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stepped out of the fire and everyone saw that the fire had not touched them, they didn’t even smell of smoke. Then Nebuchadnezzar praised the one, true God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego who had rescued them from the fire. And the king made a new command that anyone who spoke a word against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego would be greatly punished. Then he promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in his court. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego trusted in God and were willing to die rather than worship any god but their own God.

We referenced the following Biblical passages: Daniel 2. Hey-O Kids Curriculum’s primary goal with the Stories of the Bible animation is to tell the stories from God’s word accurately and in a way that is engaging to children of all ages. This is Daniel who was a Jewish man who was taken to Babylon when he was very young. Daniel served in the king’s service as a wise man. The king of Babylon was a man named Nebuchadnezzar, and one night he had such disturbing dream that he couldn’t sleep. He called in some of the wise men of his kingdom and demanded that they tell him what he had dreamed. The wise men said, “Tell us the dream and we will tell you what it means.”But the king told them that they must tell him what the dream was and what it meant. If they did, they would be rewarded, but if they didn’t they would be severely punished. The wise men asked again for the king to tell them what the dream was and then they would tell him what it meant. But the king wanted them to tell him what the dream was.The wise men said that the king’s request was impossible and that no one except the gods can tell someone a dream. The king was furious when he heard this and ordered that all the wise men of Babylon be killed. Because of the king’s decree, men were sent to find and kill Daniel and his friends. When the men arrived, Daniel asked why the king had ordered such a thing. The men told Daniel what happened with the king’s dream and Daniel went at once to the king to ask for time to tell the king what his dream meant. Then Daniel told his friends - Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego - to pray to God to show them the secret of the king’s dream. That night, God showed Daniel secret of the dream in a vision. Daniel praised God for this and then was taken to the king. Daniel said, “There are no wise men, enchanters, magicians, or fortune-tellers who can reveal the king’s secret. But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the future. Now I will tell you your dream and the visions you saw as you lay on your bed.” And so Daniel told the king what his dream was and what it meant. The king bowed before Daniel and praised him. The king said to Daniel, “Truly, your God is the greatest of gods, a revealer of mysteries for you have been able to reveal this secret.” Then the king promoted Daniel to be the chief of all the wise men and also promoted his friends - Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego - in the king’s court.
