It’s all about Gratitude
Happy holidays and merry Christmas eve! As we get closer to the end of the year I wanted to share with you 3 exercises I do when I’m feeling a little grinchy and need to keep my stress levels down. Less stress equals stable blood sugar. I also wanted to take the time to share 5 things that I’m grateful for. I didn’t have the space to do so for Thanksgiving but I’m glad I can now. We all could use a little more holiday cheer and sometimes it’s as simple as thinking about all the things we DO have versus what we don’t. As always please be safe and responsible. The pandemic isn’t over just because we’re over it. If you choose to see your family please follow ALL guidelines from the CDC. If you choose to stay home, know that there’s nothing wrong with that because we all want to go into the new year being as safe and healthy as possible. How it all began
Hey everyone, it’s official! Season 1 is live and we are ready to dive in with episode 1. If you’ve been following me prior to the show launch, I’m sure you’ve learned what this show is all about. Just in case if you’re brand new, I’m your host Taylor Daniele, here to share my journey living with type 2 diabetes and my goal to reverse it. My goal is to create conversations on how we can make lifestyle changes to reverse or naturally manage diabetes. I hope this inspires you to do so too. Everything I share is real and I promise to keep it that way. I want us to share quality information and perspectives, so we can go out into the world and make a change. With that I want to share how this all began for me and why I’m here today.KEY POINTSHow it all started: I had been experiencing some strange physical symptoms the past few months. I finally stopped ignoring the signs. Deep down I knew what was going on with me. I needed to see if I had diabetes. Yes type 2 diabetes. Then weeks before my 26th birthday, I had confirmation. I was a 26 year old with type 2 diabetes. In that moment, my idea to create a community of my peers battling the same disease was sparked. I sat with it and researched everything about it as much as I could stand. I then thought, I should start a blog. Trial and ErrorAfter realizing what I wanted to create I went down the deep rabbit hole of creating a blog with hopes to potentially make it something more. I did a little bit with it and even had somewhat of a social media schedule to make it big. Months went by. I was too busy, too tired, not following anything that I had been told to do by my doctor or anything I researched. Who would read about a failure? So it sat.I started to think about refocusing on my little slice of the internet again. I was thinking about all my past habits and my ways of living and decoding those moments on how it led to my current state. I had decided before I even had the name and website that people, especially those my age, needed to know how serious this was and that our generation had the power to make huge changes in the health and wellness space. I wanted to be the person to lead that charge when it came to other type 2 diabetics. Birthing and nurturingFor the past 4 years I’ve struggled to make Healing in Hindsight™ be the brand that propels this mission forward. But I was a failure. I didn’t feel like I could provide anything meaningful. I had more bad days than good and too this day I’m still a diabetic. No success story for me. Maybe you’re wondering? Cool soooo you’re saying you have a blog and you’re podcasting? I haven’t done as much as I could’ve. I could be so much further along. But I won’t waste any more energy on criticizing myself. I’m here now. Being able to share my experiences and struggles is all I ever really wanted. And I want you to know that this is a safe place to share yours too. The Definition of Type 2 Diabetes
We’re back with episode 2! I’m excited to dive in and share some insights as we learn and grow together. In this first season we’re going to start with the basics. I mean the very basics. I’ll share some key things to better understand it, stats, symptoms and my personal experience with all of it. My goal in this episode is for you to walk away with a better understanding of what you’re dealing with. The more that you know and understand what to look for the better prepared you’ll be. And hey maybe you decide on your next doctor’s visit to get clarity. We’ll discuss what type 2 diabetes is, some insights of how many people are affected, and what to look out for if you’re not sure if you may be a diabetic or not. KEY POINTS What is type 2 diabetes exactly? The basics of type 2The difference between type 1 & 2Why having a healthy weight (noticed I said healthy not perfect IG model body)From the CDC National Diabetes Statistics Report: Here are the facts34.2 million Americans—just over 1 in 10—have diabetes and 1 in 4 of them don’t know they have it.88 million American adults—approximately 1 in 3—have prediabetes. 90% don’t even know that they have it. 90% guys. That’s almost most of the adults in the US.New diabetes cases were higher among non-Hispanic blacks and people of Hispanic origin than non-Hispanic Asians and non-Hispanic whites. — meaning people of color are getting hit the hardest.New diagnosed cases of type 1 and type 2 diabetes have significantly increased among US youth. The percentage of adults with prediabetes who were aware they had the condition doubled between 2005 and 2016, but most continue to be unaware. In 2017, the total estimated cost of diagnosed diabetes was $327 billion.SymptomsWhat are the signsWhat I personally experiencedWhat to do if you’re not sure if you’re a diabeticResourcesNational Diabetes Statistics Report, 2020My glucose meter: One DropFind more at www.healinginhindsight.comConnectInstagram @healinginhindsightFacebook.com/healinginhindsightLet's chat! How to prepare yourself before and after being diagnosed
Today we’re going to talk about preparation. So you’re about to have your doctor’s appointment. You’re nervous. You’re not sure what to expect or what to ask. What do you do? Not to worry. In this episode we go over how to prepare, things to potentially expect when you talk to your doctor, and other tools and tips to jumpstart your road to recovery. Being prepared about what to potentially expect can help you maximize time with your doctor. We all know you spend 30 minutes waiting and 5 minutes discussing. Lets talk drugs!
In this episode we’re talking about drugs. Not the recreational ones but the basic medication that most diabetics are given when you’re newly diagnosed. Metformin is very common amongst pre-diabetics and those diagnosed with type 2. But what is it exactly? How does it make you feel? Side effects? We’ll talk through all of this and what my personal experience with it has been. Remember, I’m not a doctor so be sure to talk with your physician if you have any questions specific to what it means for you. My experience may not be the same as you. Just in case maybe don’t eat while you’re listening to this one..KEY POINTS What is Metformin? I have not personally checked into this myself so please be sure to do your own research. I am not vegan nor can I confirm that what’s mentioned in the film is accurate for me. At the end of the day, everyone’s body is different and it’s up to you to learn and understand what works for you. If that’s being plant based or not, make that decision for yourself. More about your new favorite drug
Welcome back to another episode! In this episode, I wanted to kind of piggyback on the last one where we learned about what Metformin is, how it works with your body, and some of the side effects you can expect with it. Something that I wanted to include in our learnings about Metformin is timing. I know. It’s already one thing to have to take the medication but now you have to time it?? Sort of. It’s more so understanding how timing can affect your blood sugar levels when you’re eating and taking your meds. The good news is it’s short and sweet. Simple things every diabetic needs
Today I wanted to go over some things that every diabetic needs or could use on a day to day basis. Although this is catered to type 2 folks, a lot of these can apply to type 1 as well! These are items that all of us should keep on your person. Most of them are no-brainers, but it doesn't hurt to highlight them.KEY POINTSMedication I know it’s obvious but you’d be surprised.Glucose MeterEspecially when you’re just starting out you may need to check your blood sugar in case your body is tricking you into thinking that it’s dropping too low when it’s dropping to a normal level.Journal/AppA journal is great to keep track of your numbers. It helps you to see where you're consistent. It's also helpful for your doctor as well.Hard Candy and Juice Let's face it, life happens. Unfortunately, your body doesn't stop for that. Managing Blood Sugar
In this episode, I want to talk about something that's for everybody. Honestly, I know that this podcast is mostly circled around type two diabetics and our community and how we can help each other. Everybody can benefit from it. We're going to talk about it along with a few things that inspired me to learn more about it from the eyes of a non-diabetic.KEY POINTSI know you may not be a diabetic but take it from Kelly Leveque How I discovered herWhat I’ve learned from reading her book and learning how we interact with blood sugar levels all the time What I’d like to explore more with her podcast and fundamentals program Keto or nahMy struggles with keto but I learned a lotCooking is hard -- not because I can’tAnime can help you learnPay attention to your blood sugarAvoid diabetesBetter energy and moods Find more at www.healinginhindsight.com Resources Almost30Kelly Leveque: The Be Well By Kelly PodcastKelly Leveque: Body LoveKelly Leveque: The Fab Four Fundamentals Course Cells at Work What Is A Normal Blood Sugar Level And How To Keep It NormalConnectInstagram @healinginhindsightFacebook.com/healinginhindsightLets chat! Support Systems are real
Unscripted rambling from me. Ok maybe not a ramble. In this episode I share some thoughts I had about how important having a solid support system is. Meet Eli Will
It’s always nerve wracking to let people into your relationship. But Eli has been an important part of my life. I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for him. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a list of folks who have helped me get here. Eli was the starting point. He’s pushed me in so many ways and if I hadn’t worked on myself through the growth that we’ve had, there’s no way in hell I would be doing this right now. I’d probably still be dancing around this idea and revamping a website 50 times. The epiphany of constant change
It’s crazy when you have those aha moments and actually lean into them. To be transparent, right before recording this I was really struggling. I felt heavy and depressed. Most of the time when I get into these states, I let everything around me fall apart. This time was different. I was gentle with myself and listened to my body. I was able to pull myself out of that state and push through. Meet the man who was there from the beginning
Welcome to the season finale! I felt it was only right to end the season with the person who was there from the start: my dad. I’ve mentioned him several times throughout the season but felt it was only right to end the season with his own diabetic journey. Hopefully any guys out there listening can learn from him. It’s a perspective I can’t speak to and I want to ensure that everyone is included.
