Stop Kissing Dr Ass | Market Yourself to Your Community!
EMarket Your OT Services to Your Community I remember starting out my clinic over 10 years ago and was told to market myself and my services to doctors. I made my list of those I knew. I made a list of ones I wanted to get to know and have them send patients to me. I spent my 1st two years in business doing that. Here's what it got me: - schedule that went up and down - a lot of time in the car driving from place to place - standing around and waiting with my box of cookies - barely any phone calls and when it was...they only wanted to know if I could take their patients insurance At some point, the thing that might have worked 20-30 years ago to build a business no longer services us. Take a listen to this weeks video on - Stop kissing doctors ass and market yourself to your community. I'm not saying it doesn't work...of course it can work. But please don't let that be what you spend majority of your time on. Let me know what you think of this video. I know most OT's and CHT's are still out there kissing ass....but I refuse to do so anymore. It's LIBERATING!! It feels so good when people want to work with you...not you feel desperate that you need them to work with you in order for your business to survive and thrive. Share Your Perspective | Having an Abundant Mindset
Having an Abundant Mindset You have something special to share. As an OT, you have a perspective and way of treating or helping people in need. https://handtherapysecrets.com/business-skills/ The only way to grow your business in 2024 is going to be sharing your perspective. Sharing what you do really well and how you can help people. Here's the thing though....as easy as it sounds....it's kinda hard to do. Take a listen in this week's video. I had an OT several years ago tell me that other CHT's held back when training her and that when she becomes a CHT, she's not going to share what she does to ensure here own job security. Here's the thing though...that might help you in the short run....but that scarcity mindset doesn't help you in the long run. Nor will it help you in business. Information and education is the future and how most small businesses such as us OT professionals will be able to grow. Having that abundant mindset will separate you from other businesses in your local area. I didn't think it was true when I started my clinic....but I started sharing and I had MORE patients from it. When I started my online business, the more I shared, the more I made. It's crazy but true. So if there's anything I can share from my experiences is that your mindset and how you choose to move forward will determine how much you make in 2024. My Marketing Focus in 2024
bonusMarketing Strategies for Occupational Therapist Hey there, fellow occupational therapists! As we gear up for 2024, I've been doing a lot of soul-searching about where I want to take my OT business. You know, we're all passionate about helping people, but I've come to realize that we need to focus on making sure people actually know about us. Marketing is the key to reaching more people and making a more significant impact.https://handtherapysecrets.com/business-skills/ If you're in the same boat, whether you're just starting out or you've been at this for a while like me, growing your business is all about getting more eyeballs on it. That means more attention, more clients, and ultimately, more success. Reflecting on 2023, I've spent a good amount of time on marketing, but now as we approach the end of the year, I want to share my laser-focused plan for 2024. In a world that's evolving rapidly, especially post-COVID, I believe marketing is going to be more crucial than ever. My perspective is that things might get tougher before they get easier, and if we want to seize opportunities to help more people, we need to bring more attention to what occupational therapy is all about. So, what's my strategy for 2024? It's simple—more attention. More eyeballs. My marketing efforts won't revolve around just promoting occupational therapy. Instead, I'll focus on what my potential clients want and need. For instance, I've noticed that most people searching for our services aren't specifically looking for occupational therapy. They're seeking solutions to specific problems. In 2024, my primary focus is on generating attention for my clinic and my online program, Hand Therapy Secrets. Now, there are countless avenues within marketing, so the question is, what aspect are you going to zero in on? For me, it's all about creating valuable content. I've decided to commit to more deliberate planning in 2024. Instead of going with the flow, I'll spend dedicated time thinking about my target audience and creating videos and content tailored to their needs. This involves scheduling time to think and plan, batching out content creation, and improving communication within my team. My commitment to growing my YouTube channel for the clinic means being more thoughtful about the content I share. I've also decided to batch out my videos more efficiently, leveraging Parkinson's Law to keep myself focused and productive. This approach allows me to be deliberate, efficient, and effective in my communication and content creation. Moreover, I'm challenging myself to become a better communicator, addressing the curse of knowledge bias. By improving how I convey information to my team, I aim to reduce frustration and enhance overall efficiency. Better communication is a critical skill that I believe will not only benefit my clinic but also contribute to my goal of writing another book. So, if you're an occupational therapist or another healthcare provider looking to grow your business in 2024, share your focus in the comments below. I'm here to help and create more videos that can support you on your journey. If you found this helpful, don't forget to subscribe and let me know if you want more content like this. Until next time, peace out, and I look forward to hearing about your goals for 2024. Thanks for tuning in!https://handtherapysecrets.com/business-skills/

What I Struggled With My First 2 Years into My Hand Therapy Clinic
Hand Therapy Clinic Challenges & Roadblocks In this insightful podcast episode, I share and reflect on the challenges I faced two years into running my own hand therapy clinic. I share my journey of transitioning from a clinical expert to a business owner and the struggles I encountered along the way. Despite having a strong foundation in hand therapy, I realized that running a clinic required a different set of skills, particularly in marketing and business operations.https://handtherapysecrets.com/business-skills/ I go over the initial belief that I only had a marketing problem. I describe the cycle of filling my schedule through marketing efforts but then getting too busy to continue marketing, resulting in inconsistent patient flow. However, I encourntered a more significant issue: the challenge of hiring and managing staff as the clinic grew. This podcast delves into the solo entrepreneur mindset and the initial tendency to wear all hats in the business, from treating patients to handling marketing. I discuss the need to shift from this mindset and invest in developing business skills to ensure long-term success. Drawing from personal experiences, I share how hiring the wrong people led to doubts about the viability of my business. I emphasize the importance of investing in oneself, both in terms of learning business skills and seeking coaching. The turning point for me was discovering the book "The E-Myth," which challenged my assumptions about entrepreneurship. I realized the need to invest not just in clinical skills but also in business education, marketing, and other aspects crucial for sustained growth. I encourage my fellow occupational therapists and business owners to assess their current struggles and invest in the necessary skills to propel their businesses forward. she shares personal anecdotes, insights, and practical advice for those navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship in the healthcare field. In this video, I'm Hoang Tran, a certified hand therapist and occupational therapist, and I'm here to share my journey on how I established my OT online business.https://handtherapysecrets.com/business-skills/ Over a decade ago, I began with a physical clinic. However, I realized that finding certified hand therapists or those trained in hand therapy was a significant challenge. Many were seeking experienced professionals, and I didn't have extensive experience. Still, my passion for teaching persisted. Initially, I aspired to teach at a university, even taking some courses. I eventually became an adjunct professor and then proposed creating a splinting course. This experience kickstarted my journey, and I believe if you have expertise in a specific area, you can grow an online business tailored to your niche. The possibilities are vast. Whether you want to help people with specific conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, offer yoga services in conjunction with OT, or focus on hand injuries like I do, there's ample room for innovation and growth in the online OT world. Starting an OT online business involves sharing your knowledge and honing in on solving particular problems. For me, I started by sharing my expertise in splinting, gradually developing my Hand Therapy Secrets program. You'll need to create content, such as videos and blogs, and share consistently. Sharing what you know is essential to building trust and showcasing your abilities. It's crucial to understand your audience and adapt your course based on their needs. By sharing and interacting with your community, you'll discover what they require, which can lead to adjustments in your course content and structure. Don't start by developing a program and hoping people will buy it; first, establish your expertise and understand your audience's needs. So, to start your own OT online business, share your knowledge, engage with your community, and build trust by consistently offering valuable content. How To Choose & Create Your Best Marketing Strategy
How To Choose & Create Your Best Marketing Strategy I had a Question Submitted by Tom asking me, "What is my experience with Workshops and Digital Marketing?" In other words, "How do you Create Your Marketing Strategy." It Basically comes down to 3 Questions. 1.What Type of Clinic Do You Want?2.What Are You Willing To Do?3.Trial & Error I’ve been there, and I still see it in our small but mighty community. https://handtherapysecrets.com/business-skills/ You got started on your therapy business because you wanted to make a difference and break the glass ceiling. What you didn’t realize how challenging it would be. You started that brick-and-mortar clinic or mobile practice. Got a few patients to fill your schedule but you are working more than you thought you would. Or maybe you started that online course. Created that course that every course creator told you you could. Now a few months or years later, you find yourself feeling stuck again and again.

I just wanted to fill my schedule and treat the way I wanted to treat. I was searching for the freedom that everyone in business talks about but all I found was being tied down to my patient schedule. I started out 10 years ago. Within the 1st year I was stuck…I knew the business I created needed help. I just didn’t know where to turn or who to turn to. I started my business by asking around to see what other OT’s did. What was limited. Though there’s MORE information now…it’s also MORE confusing. The market is competitive, but I’ll tell you what….there’s plenty of room for us occupational therapists. How I Quit My Full Time Job & Started My Own Therapy Clinic
EHow to Build Your Own OT Clinic! How I went from a frustrated Occupational Therapist wondering if I had picked the right career path, to having an amazing career and running two companies that support occupational therapy in different ways. I have a Great Resource for you if you want to Make the Money You Deserve! Before becoming a business owner. Before becoming a Certified Hand Therapist… I was that new Occupational Therapist graduate looking for a way to get a job in hand therapy because it was a goal of mine to become a Certified Hand Therapist. But I kept hearing the same thing…”we need someone with experience”. But how can I get experience without the job? It wasn’t like I opened my clinic doors and there was a line of patients waiting to be treated by me JUST because I was a Certified Hand Therapist. It wasn’t like every hand surgeon would send me patients because they just loved the results that I got their patients. Long hours trying to develop more skills – from therapy to business skills. Days wondering if I had made a mistake with endless amounts of self doubt. Nights worrying that I am doing a disservice to my family and kids who were supposed to have more time with me. But when the patients did start coming in, and the phone was ringing off the hook…who was going to help me? The final straw was when I was trying to go on vacation and I had no occupational therapist who could step in with the skills that I needed. When I had no certified hand therapist with the confidence to treat complex cases… I needed to take a stand!https://handtherapysecrets.com/business-skills/

How To Progress Patients as a COTA
How can COTAs Progress Patients In this Podcast I answer a question that a COTA asked me. "How can COTAs Progress Patients?" Hand Therapy Mentorship A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a crucial role in the field of occupational therapy. Here are some of the key responsibilities and roles of a COTA: Implementing treatment plans: COTAs work closely with occupational therapists to carry out treatment plans designed for patients. They assist in implementing therapeutic interventions and activities that aim to improve clients' functional abilities, enhance independence, and promote overall well-being. Providing client care: COTAs provide direct client care under the supervision of occupational therapists. They assist individuals with various tasks, such as therapeutic exercises, mobility training, and activities of daily living (ADL) like dressing, bathing, and eating. They may also help clients with the use of assistive devices or adaptive equipment. Assessing client progress: COTAs observe and assess clients' responses to treatment interventions. They document and report the progress, changes, or challenges clients may face during therapy sessions. These observations are valuable in modifying and adapting treatment plans to better meet clients' needs. Collaborating with the occupational therapy team: COTAs work as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, and other healthcare professionals. They participate in team meetings, share insights, and contribute to the development and modification of treatment plans. Educating clients and families: COTAs provide education and guidance to clients and their families regarding therapeutic exercises, home modifications, and strategies to enhance functional abilities. They may teach clients techniques to manage their conditions, use adaptive equipment, and develop routines that support independence. Documentation and administrative tasks: COTAs maintain accurate and detailed documentation of client progress, treatment sessions, and any other pertinent information. They may also assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing equipment inventory, and coordinating with insurance providers. Adhering to ethical and professional standards: COTAs follow ethical guidelines and professional standards in their practice. They prioritize client safety, privacy, and confidentiality. They engage in ongoing professional development to stay updated with the latest research, techniques, and advancements in occupational therapy. These roles and responsibilities may vary depending on the healthcare setting, client population, and the specific guidelines or regulations within a particular region Watch on YouTube

How Less is More When Treating Stiff Hands!
Treating Stiff Hands | How Less is More! I have received a common question this week regarding the treatment of stiff hands. Often, therapists become frustrated when they receive these types of questions because they feel like they are trying everything without any success. As a therapist myself, I have developed several treatment principles, and today I want to share one of them with you: "less is more." When dealing with a stiff hand, it is important to understand that splints are not a cure-all solution, although they can be helpful in certain cases. Splints can be used in two ways: as a static progressive or dynamic tool to increase motion or as a means to block one joint in order to allow movement in another joint. However, splinting is just one aspect of a comprehensive treatment plan. When evaluating and treating a stiff hand, it is crucial to identify the limitations and goals of the patient. Manual therapy skills are essential in treating a stiff hand effectively. Slowing down the movements during manual therapy and educating the patient about the nature of their joint can help manage expectations and alleviate frustration. In terms of exercise selection, it is better to focus on a few key exercises that are performed correctly rather than overwhelming the patient with numerous exercises. Taking the time to explain the exercises and ensuring the patient understands how to perform them at home can lead to better results. Finally, when providing a home exercise program, it is important to consider the patient's success and motivation. Instead of giving them a long list of exercises, focus on a few exercises that they can perform correctly and consistently. In summary, when treating stiff hands, remember the principle of "less is more." Use splints as part of a comprehensive treatment plan, employ manual therapy skills effectively, select a few key exercises performed correctly, and prioritize the patient's success in their home exercise program.
