"Themes are us" here at the Halshack! ..lol with special guest (CAVO) This show came about because of a submission from Alternative Twist Radio! They submitted to me a new competent talented artist by the name of Will Buck! I searched through his library and found this "little diddy" that almost "slipped my grasp"..lol with his song "Sleight of Hand" Will bucked this idea into my head to do a theme show based solely around this song. I had to find a way to use it so I dug deep through 10 years worth of my catalogue new and old to pull out one of the best episodes in the theme series to date! The best shows come along unplanned!This episode is all about what one faces from the negative side of life. Its a very serious tone. Some of the songs are upbeat but the show as a whole will tax your inner self and test your strength plus your mental fortitude. You can and will survive. Learn how to cope and find the inner strength needed to push forward. A good support system in your life is a must. Everyone experiences loss in many ways from the loss of a loved one to the loss of their family unit to losing ones keys or even losing yourself to the madness we call life. We all desperately want change but some lack the will or the fortitude to see it through. I have been in a very dark place the last several years of my life at different moments after the loss of my family unit plus the loss of my pets dying to losing my great house at the lake after 7 years then my car died. (lost house due to owners selling, I was a renter). Life has been somewhat strange and an adventure ever since...lol Its allowed me much introspective and retrospective on how to cope with life's curve balls. Through it all the music and my new phase of life have kept me positive and happy, for the most part, despite all the misery!New adventures are on the horizon as we plan forward for a SHACK HOLE at the Axe Hole/Friction Skating in Lexington NC! Next year coming August 2024 is the High Rock Music Fest with Halshack at CARAWAY SPEEDWAY! Rap Shack 12 is sure to delve into some great jams to make you go "........DAMN!"..lol We're back again with another edition of my stellar rap and hip hop series I'm becoming renown for around the globe per our official radio submission campaigns with Reverbnation! This rounds out official campaign number #6 with the company. Moving on to 7 this summer!! We had 1500 submissions and chose about 50 to fill a few shows! Be sure to get your submissions in for the next campaign starting May 15th and ending July 31st! "She wanna do it for the Gram!" says Black Shawd and indeed we do want to get our message out to the Gram and Tik Tok and anywhere else who wants some dope tunes for your ride or to flash your hide...lol I managed to put together a cool special featuring some new rap infused R&B with a little soul pop in between then we go cruising into the islands for a little flavor of Jamaica. Skylar Lutes and Drifting Roots were having fun in the sun till the boys in blue thought they we're a "suspect" for bringing too much good music to your ears! Meanwhile MIGS718 is getting "Wasted" off good vibes after his BRAND NEW track just released!! Then we're going to take a slight stroll down memory lane to the harder edge of rap with some various new and old style hip hop mixes! Thanks for enjoying this journey with me. Its hard to put these shows together and manage to find all the right material to form a proper flow in order to arrange these various styles in a one hour setting. I manage to get lucky and do it everytime which is quite intriguing that I can do this without flaw. It does take alot of work. I have to dive through every single library of every potential artist for the episode and find the song that works and is presentable and professional enough for radio play. If its not there it doesnt make my show. Thats the quality Ive become known for. I appreciate everyone so much for becoming a fan and recognizing what we do here at the Halshack! Please welcome Belinda Carlisle to the Halshack!! Well last year we didn't get to put much focus on this special event! Due to the Wampus Cat Music Festival with Lit, Everclear and Sister Hazel this song was completely over shadowed! I talked about the song and played it in the Wampus Cat Special but it was a wash for their representation! Well I'd like to give this song justice and put the proper focus on the stellar career of Miss Belinda Carlisle of the Go Go's fame! I'm honored to have her on the show! She released a book recently about her troubled life behind the scenes which I believe many of us did not know about! I'm thankful she found a clean road to sobriety and she's with us today to share her stories of trials and tribulations. I'm glad she's overcome her problems and back on the road touring and cutting new music like this song with Gabe Lopez! Gabe submitted to me again for the show which we've already heard Gabe 3 times now on 3 diff tunes so thought we should swing back around to this little "diddy" about feeling the blues for home in CALIFORNIA BLUES! This is one of the more unique pop hits Ive heard in many many years. It mixes up about 6 genres in one song and is a throwback to multiple styles of artists from the 80s and 90s. Its a finely crafted tune and well worth worldwide exposure. "Where We're Standing Now" may not necessarily be the place you're supposed to be. You may have to get "a Little High and a Little Low" before you find where to plant your roots as have I and many of us have from all walks of life. Many of us have found a "White Light" at the end of the tunnel in love and relationships whether it be lovers, friends, or family but sometimes those lights come in the form of powder burns when their words sting like "Bullets". It may make you feel like you are not being validated and going "Unnoticed" for your contribution. Take a second to think about how you respond or what your next move is. The world can be a huge scary place when facing it alone with your "Lonely Bones".This world is demanding, life is demanding, jobs are demanding, it can feel like its a bit too much and leaving us looking for some "Sanity in Madness" that is the state of today. In the end, life is what you make it. Go out there and conquer the world as I have so you can say look at "What I've Become" rather than "Falling" on your face so you will "Never Look Back" to your old life of negative mind state and hard times. If most of you don't already know Im Generation X! We are the smallest Generation in the world in existence but yet we had the largest impact on culture from music to tv and movies to the very smartphone you hold in your hand! My generational brothers and sisters are lost in this new world. We imagined a world where we could strive forward and make the necessary changes that our parents and grand parents neglected to see or admit. We were told to sit down and shut up and eat our brussel sprouts...lol Kids have no say!! Therefore we are lost (most of us not all), the forgotten ones, left to fend for ourselves to try to grow a career out of a life of disappointment and most of the time utter chaos. We found solitude in each other and our music for it was all we had! We were the kids daring enough to do bike stunts in the backyard and play "war" around the neighborhood till the lights came on! We were partying in the woods and having bonfires before it was even cool and we were the first to play video games at home and all you had to do find where all your friends were was look for the most bikes in the front yard! Those were the days! Now our generation is left to pick up the pieces of our aging parents, crushing debt, and Gen Z children who want a better life than what most of us can give or offer. We were branded the first and most "color blind" generation. We want nothing but peace and love for all humanity and coexistence was our forte. We were groomed by our parents to get the great job and the white picket fence with 2.7 kids and a pension to fall back on but sadly the world that was created by them has been destroyed by them as well and we as always are overlooked for our opinions and knowledge and experience. It seems that the current social climate culture is trying to suppress every thing we knew as kids from our music to movies. The major labels used to "care" about you the listener, now all they care about is the mighty dollar and "streamagers" habits...lol. They are the ones who have time to pass around garbage and call it music because once you've heard GREAT, you cant go back or be subjected to tolerating less than talent. Its like trading down for a crappier car than the one you have. Why would you???...lolSo why tolerate the BS they are handing out and why keep listening to 30 year old music you've heard 5000 times!!...lol (yes its great and you LOVE it) but there's always room to LOVE something else too!Apparently we Gen Xers who created music what it is today doesn't have time to make sure we influence music in the right direction. A "LIKE" does nothing for a band on social media but hitting the "SHARE" button is the ultimate goal. That's what gets the message out to social media feeds around the globe!!We have to stop and ask ourselves "Are we part of the problem that music has headed the way it has" That's a resounding YES because no one wants to lift a finger to retweet or share their fave indie band or a new act they found to their buddies (Some of you will, but most wont) and that's very unfortunate that the GEN that calls themselves the most critical thinking most problem solving most active GEN in history cant "hit a button". ...lolWe can all do better!! So next time hit the share button for a band you like or my show. They cant do it on their own and neither can we. This is going to take a grassroots movement from all of us. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY folks!! A spur of the moment decision or actually a forgetful memory inspired this show to happen....lol I always do something special for this lovely day because I'm a lovely feelin' Libra who's feelin' lovely and always in love with love. As we look back to important holidays like Memorial Day, where so many allied forces gave their lives in the name of freedom, we are reminded of great relationships forged over the years with our friends we fought so hard to break free from then we fought along side of to help rid the world of tyranny.Memorial Day weekend 2015, NARROW PLAINS won a spectacular contest to come to the states and work with famed producer John Davenport and play a couple gigs while they were here. I got the pleasure of meeting with the gents in my home area at the Blind Tiger in Greensboro, NC. I was elated to meet these fine chaps, we had a beer, some laughs, and a great interview which you can find posted on the podcast feed. I was honored to flap my gums with the fellas for 320 mins and record their show. I used some "live excerpts" from the show in Greensboro and mixed them with their song they recorded at Deep River Studios in Sanford NC, USA!So with Memorial Day recently passing in May and 4th of July coming its a great time to remember and honor our British, Irish, and Scottish pals from way across the "giant lake" of salt and seaweed...lolSpeaking of memorials....We have a special TRIBUTE in this episode for VIOLA BEACH, young British rockers with a HUGE future who's lives were so tragically taken from this world in a terrible auto accident in Sweden in 2016! Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of these wonderful young men. I appreciate this rare opportunity I was given to help support this band and help with their release of a possible new tribute album in the future! I'm very honored to Have VIOLA BEACH in my camp of talented artists!Its so ironic to be doing this show now unplanned mind you, I got the idea off one of my US artists spent some time evidently in London and met a friend or potential lover, not sure which. She wrote a song called "Hey London" and I just ran it in the (Summerscapes episode, June 2021) all about places around the world and how you get there and want to get back home. Great episode! We learned to earn our keep and we perfected what modern music is today. Gen X is the best at music. We don't hand out participation trophies because we know the quality of talent that is out there. Once you've heard that then it makes no sense to settle for second best.
