The Book of Certainty Seminar#4 by Reza Shah-Kazemi In this series, Dr Reza Shah-Kazemi will discuss The Book of Certainty by Dr Martin Lings, also known as Shaykh Abū Bakr Sirāj ad-Dīn. The talks will be in the form of seminars where Reza will start by reading a few pages from the book, then elucidate some of the meanings. The audience will then be invited to participate and engage in a Q&A session.   The Book of Certainty: The Sufi Doctrine of Faith, Vision and Gnosis was first published in 1992 by the Islamic Texts Society. The book expresses the language of Sufism, that is, Islamic mysticism, some of the universal truths which ‘lie at the heart of all religions’. Dr Lings was asked by friends in Egypt in the early 1950s to write a book before he leaves. He wrote this book attempting to distil the quintessence of Sufi Qur’anic exegeses, wove into that a universal prospective. His aim of writings was to make accessible some of the great germs of Universal Spirituality expressed through commentaries of Qur’anic verses. He begins with a reading from Jean-Pierre de Caussade's magisterial ''Self-Abandonment to Divine Providence'', where the image of the tapestry of life is presented in a way which clarifies the distinction between the fragmentary, human view of the tapestry of life, seen from ''below'', and the harmony, beauty and ''justice'' of life, seen from above, sub specie aeternitatis. Unseen in the solitude and in activeness of Jesus on the Cross.”Ann-Marie, a Belgium nun who has been living as a hermit for 38 years in the hermitage of Cambusmore Estate in Scotland, shares with Reza her monastic experience and how she came to realise the truth through Divine love. Her experience of Divine love was so all encompassing that it became inescapable, in a certain sense, it enclosed her from doing anything other than to love. The creativity of love prevails over the destructiveness of death. She also explains her unique understanding of the Trinity, and how that could be understood from a Muslim prespictive.Anne-Marie wrote some letters to the Archbishop and she shared some of those letters with Reza. He then start reading experts of those letter and then asking her to comment on them.“I have understood the real meaning of what happened on the Cross and the resurrection. You cannot kill someone who is giving his life, he is the eternal victor. Love that gives itself totally to the end of physical death.
