Ep 13Ep. 13: Creating Credibility & Culture: Part V Branding, Call to Action, and Website Audit
Oh boy. That’s right. It’s time to address it. The big W. Your Website. This episode is a nonprofit’s crash course on different types of websites, how to communicate your brand, and what you should NOT do on your website. Nonprofit websites, in particular, can be a little overwhelming and are known for being the cause of one too many headaches. With the prevalent combination of tiny fonts, non-contrasting colors, and a scream to “Give! Give! Give!” with no clear vision of why one should give or an easy way on how to give. ARRGH! We are going to go into the overall approach to your website, give some tips on how to get the traffic it deserves and reveal ways for visitors to take the call to action that you provide. It doesn’t matter if you use WordPress, Square Space, Wix, or any of the other countless web platforms that are available. The formatting that we are going to discuss will work for them all in providing a better way to communicate your brand. Favor, please? Ep 12Creating Credibility & Culture: Part IV Website Vs. Facebook
Why your nonprofit needs a website and not just a Facebook pageYou can have the most awesome nonprofit or business in the world, but in this day and age, you need that awesomeness to be reflected online. And by online, I don’t just mean social media or a mediocre URL.Do you still have a website that was created in the early millennium? You know the one that I am talking about. It is crammed with information in small font and looks more like a brochure than a website. I see this a lot, especially with nonprofits. Instead of communicating a unique mission, skill set, or storyline, beneficiaries are given a standard impersonal message. They find themselves led through a maze of Error 401 pages and outdated events. Completely devoid of the services and projects that they offer, presented in a color scheme bound to give the browser a headache. The Five Main Reasons your Organization Needs a Website and not just a Facebook Page:Your organization will own the website, whereas social media can change or shut down at any moment.A website creates credibility for your organization.Your website will communicate your branding more efficiently.Your donation/fundraising campaign can be hosted on your website. You can collect emails through your website by offering value.Next time we will look at different types of websites, how to communicate your brand, and what you should not do on your website.ABOUT HOLLY RUSTICKGrant Writing & Funding (GWF) has a Global Movement to Secure $1 Billion in Grant Funding for Good and $30 Million in Grant Writing Businesses by 2030. Ep 11Ep. 11: Creating Credibility & Culture: Part III Doing the SWOT
✨✨ Visit www.grantwritingandfunding.com to get the proven G.R.A.N.T.S. formula to write winning grants ✨✨ So why do this fancy analysis? Well, it is very important to conduct an analysis of what stage your organization or company is and where you want to go. This is especially true when you have a new administration come in, or if you are expanding and growing. For instance, your organization may get some new grants and expand to a different target demographic. Or you may launch a new product to expand your reach and generate more income. Maybe you just haven’t really analyzed your programs and projects for several years and the workflow and projects are stagnant. Or possibly you could have a high turnover rate of staff and want to mitigate unforeseen or foreseen changes. Favor, please? Ep 6Ep. 6: Part Three: Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes
This section of the grant is where the magic happens. Once you know your problem statement (listen to the previous podcast), you can figure out clear objectives, goals, and outcomes. This is the backbone of your project. A grant is like a big jigsaw puzzle, and this section is really the backdrop and what guides you to be able to find and connect each piece of the puzzle. It’s the part of the puzzle that is the backdrop fence or the house with the clean line you use to connect the pieces. If you have your objective, you will be able to formulate a budget, implement activities, and solve your problem (and build your house). In this segment, you will learn how to write clear goals, S.M.A.R.T. objectives, and measurable outcomes. Additionally, you will also learn how to implement your goal, objectives, and outcomes through the process of an action plan timeline. Favor, please? Ep 1The Mindset Behind Securing Grant Proposals
“So, when I get a grant I can just spend money on anything?” Er… no. No, you cannot. In this episode, we break down why—and it’s one of the most important concepts to understand in grant writing. At its core, a grant is money given by an organization—most often a government agency—for a specific purpose. And that phrase matters more than anything else. When you apply for a grant, you are aligning your vision with the funder’s vision. You are agreeing to use that funding exactly as outlined in your proposal. If you don’t, you’re not acting in good faith—and you may be required to return the funds. To make this concept stick, we use a simple (and memorable) metaphor: the teenager and parent relationship.Think of the funder as the parent—they want to trust you, but that trust is built by following through on what you said you would do. Your job is to show responsibility, alignment, and transparency. We also dive into what happens if you do need to make changes to your budget. Because yes—sometimes adjustments are allowed. Many grants permit a small percentage of funds to be shifted between already approved budget categories. However, anything beyond that often requires formal approval through a budget modification request. And even when it’s allowed, communication is key. Keeping your grants officer informed helps maintain trust and ensures you stay compliant. If you’ve ever been unsure about how strict grant spending really is—or how to handle changes—this episode will give you the clarity you need. Remember: a grant is money given for a particular purpose. Stay aligned, stay transparent, and you’ll build strong relationships with funders.ABOUT HOLLY RUSTICKGrant Writing & Funding (GWF) has a Global Movement to Secure $1 Billion in Grant Funding for Good and $30 Million in Grant Writing Businesses by 2030.
