S2 Ep 60EP60: Who Are the Rich Men North of Richmond? - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
EWhether you love or hate the song "Rich Men North of Richmond," you would also have to admit... _It's a damned shame that this song resonates with so many people._ **Who are the Rich Men North of Richmond?** Even more importantly, what do those Rich Men (and women) actually do? Bill Protzmann joins me (Jim Babka) to analyze first the music, then the lyrics of Oliver Anthony's viral hit, "Rich Men North of Richmond." The song sounds like an anthem. But an anthem for what? The regime media immediately made it right-wing partisan. Is that accurate? Gosh, a good chunk of that song sounds libertarian. Oh wait, it sounds 1980s Democrat Party (you know, back when Joe Biden was Senator). One part of the song raises an unjust trope about welfare recipients. We mark that error, but then we provide insight you're unlikely to hear anywhere else because... We use Grace to see it. In fact… We're inviting Oliver Anthony, along with his new, hardcore fans, for "lemonade on the porch" - and that's a Gracearchy trope our regular listeners know well. 0:00 Intro 0:43 Rich Men North of Richmond (song) 4:20 Musical analysis - an anthem 8:21 Tribal permission or prohibition 14:22 Music expressing the pain of others 15:52 Problems with the tribal camps 18:00 Are we voters the "Men North of Richmond?" 21:13 What the Rich Men DO while North of Richmond 23:47 Galvanization precedes reform 26:02 Identifying the real DIVIDE 28:02 Partisan role reversal underway 30:51 The establishment sneer 32:37 The fat welfare recipient myth 34:03 The nuanced anti-welfare view 40:44 This was a lemonade with Oliver Anthony 41:35 Brass tacks, a lack of Human Respect 42:46 Waking up to Secrets North of Richmond Gratitude to Oliver Anthony for his video: Oliver Anthony: "Rich Men North of Richmond" - https://youtu.be/sqSA-SY5Hro radio wv (Oliver's YT channel) - https://www.youtube.com/@UCrZb1efgWeZnqn-YPzQTvJw "Rigging Episode" Trump & The Rancid Truth About Campaign Finance Laws Episode 42 on this platform - https://youtu.be/NNQDvm3pFns "Inflation Episode" Inflation Is Worse Than YOU Ever Thought Episode 54 on this platform - https://youtu.be/4XILBvKNuMQ Bill Protzmann is your moderator. S2 Ep 59EP59: Explaining the Trinity with Dave Brisbin - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
ESex, God, Individuality, and Connection Our discussion about the Kingdom in the previous episode led to a dialogue about the Trinity. Inside and outside of Christianity, this is a wholly misunderstood concept. A discussion like this is needed. For me (Jim), the Trinity is one of the two most profound metaphysical concepts at the foundation of my voluntaryist worldview. If you know a Christian who is seeking how to harmonize their libertarianism and their faith, the concept of "Perichoresis" (the "divine dance") is a great place to start. We covered questions like... -"What is the Trinity? -Why is Trinity important? -The human need for connection -How individuality is maintained in relationship -The importance of the Father concept ...and more! Our discussion of the Trinity even led to sex talk - yes, you read that right. How does sex relate to Perichoresis? Well, you'll have to listen to find out! The TWO PREVIOUS EPISODES IN THIS SERIES ARE "The Weakness of Orthodoxy with Dave Brisbin - EP 57 and Reconsidering the Kingdom of God with Dave Brisbin - EP 58. Both episodes are very short. NOTE: After we recorded these in-person episodes, we discovered severe audio and video difficulties. The content was too good, so we made a major effort to repair them. You might still notice some anomalies. Timeline 0:43 - Daryl Davis, a role model of grace, not shame 4:19 - What is the Trinity? 6:18 - Why is Trinity important? 8:30 - Perichoresis, circle dance that blends 10:19 - Love and the Movement of Ruach (spirit) 13:26 - Sacrament of sex, the sensation of the Trinity 17:45 - Empathy, restoring other relationships (like Daryl Davis) 19:06 - Connection, a human need 21:57 - Individuality is maintained in relationship 24:22 - What are God's three roles? 28:27 - The importance of the Father 30:05 - The Holy Spirit's role 31:39 - The identity of Jesus 33:48 - Why the Comforter was sent Bill Protzmann is your moderator. S2 Ep 58EP58: Reconsidering The Kingdom with Guest Dave Brisbin - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
EThis episode of Gracearchy with Jim Babka is efficient. In less than 14 minutes you get some innovative thinking, answering the question... What is the Kingdom of God? In the previous episode, Pastor Dave Brisbin and I (Jim Babka) agreed "98%." In this episode, I quickly picked a fight about the other 2%. You won't be surprised to learn that my answer, to the Kingdom question, was social with a libertarian twist. Unsurprisingly, Pastor Dave gave a more personal and pastoral answer. But did we disagree? When I went back to review this episode for myself, I was surprised by two things... First, this episode seems innovative. Is theological innovation a good thing? Often, it's not. But when a set of errors become the establishment, resurrecting the truth can sound innovative. Our conversation landed in a place that challenges the social gospel of the left, the fundamentalism of the right, and the centrist insistence that there should be catholic (universal) agreement. As for our 2% disagreement, I now believe we were describing two sides of the same coin. In fact, the Kingdom of God is unlike the present system where solving problems requires capturing dominance over others. Instead, the Kingdom springs from within persons, removing the desire to rule others and implanting a desire to obey just one true King. These are the two sides Dave and I covered. Taken together, the Kingdom is a... Voluntaryism of the Heart For context, Bill and I strongly encourage you to catch the previous episode: The Weakness of Orthodoxy with Dave Brisbin - EP57. This one picks up right where the last left off. Timeline 1:35 - Kingdom of God - 98 percent agreement 2:20 - Kingdom, "power up" that topples the order 3:45 - Not to be confused with "church" 4:15 - Kingdom, resonating with the King's rule 5:58 - Anawim, reliant on God 7:29 - Queendom and God's feminine side 9:12 - The Apocalypse, hope not prediction 12:23 - Revelation, what Christ's reign looks like Bill Protzmann is your moderator. S2 Ep 57EP57: The Weakness of Orthodoxy with Dave Brisbin - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
EWhy orthodoxy does addicts little or no good. In mid-May, Bill and I sat down with Dave Brisbin. He's pastor at theeffect, a church founded by and for people in recovery from addiction. We recorded four episodes. The first episode in this series with Dave Brisbin tackles right doctrine (orthodoxy) vs right practice (orthopraxy) as experienced in addiction recovery. Along the way, we discuss... * The limits of willpower * The church as a hospital * The power of grace vs the failure of shame Most interesting of all, we define "sin." Misdefining and misunderstanding this concept has caused a lot of hangups, resentments, and cultural divisions. NOTE: We recorded four episodes with Pastor Dave. We usually use Zoom-like technology. These interviews were in person. We had three mics and five different cameras at work. We had severe audio and video difficulties that threatened our ability to release these episodes. But the content was too good, so Bill invested Herculean efforts in repairing them. Still, you might notice some anomalies. Timeline 0:43 - Why the "theeffect"? 3:40 - Orthopraxy over Orthodoxy 3:54 - The addict's situation 6:00 - Recovery: Thought vs Action 7:00 - Willpower 12:55 - Hospital for sinners? 13:48 - Defining sin 17:50 - Grace vs Shame as a strategy to overcome sin 20:05 - The Gospel 21:45 - God's Will, not a "What," but a "How" Bill Protzmann is your moderator. IG02: Sinéad O'Connor: Grace Under Picture - Instant Grace with Jim Babka
bonusEInstant Grace question: Is Grace always warmth, kindness, and sweetness? News just came down that Sinéad O'Connor died suddenly at age 56. May she Rest In Peace. But Jim Babka notes how one event can seem to define a life, and in the case of Sinéad, much of the media is talking about how she tore the Pope's picture on an October 1992 episode of Saturday Night Live. Was Grace at work? Bill Protzmann is your moderator. ZeroAggressionProject.org is the sponsor. Be grace-full to each other.
IG01: Slavery, Nina Turner, and the New Hampshire Libertarian Party - Instant Grace with Jim Babka
bonusEA progressive politician, who is also a black person, ignores the fact that someone has to pay for the "free" stuff she wants to "offer." In response, the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire suggests she should be a slave! Both the political proposal and the response lack Grace. Jim Babka explains how this happens and then shows each side the gracious path. Bill Protzmann is your moderator. ZeroAggressionProject.org is the sponsor. Be grace-full to each other.
S2 Ep 56EP56: Getting High on Biden's White House Cocaine Saga - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
EDoes anyone really believe that cocaine in the Biden White House matters? In this episode of Gracearchy with Jim Babka, we prove that no one really cares about this issue. Even the people talking about it are driven by other things. You see, our news cycle operates on something called Agenda-Setting Theory. The theory suggests that the media influences not what we think, but what we think about through its focus on certain topics. We analyze the arguments of one click-baiting pro-Trump group. Here's why you should listen even if you don't care about this story… After you hear how we break this issue down and analyze it, can you think of times when you've been manipulated by media agenda-setting? Can you learn how to resist? The standard definition of "media" might be too narrow for this story. Tempests can occur in teapots. I coined the term Conflict Machine to describe our societal system. Here's what I mean... We Americans attempt to address issues through conflict. We get so caught up in it in the partisan battle that we lose sight of the problem, let alone the real solution. We just want to defeat, if not punish our enemies. It's as if a machine is constantly churning out conflict – some might even call it a political-industrial complex. In other words, Conflict Machine serves as a more fitting label for what we typically and blandly call politics. And in this case, the desire to "win the battle" – putting the conflict first – leads to the subject of impeachment. The political right wants to impeach Joe Biden. I used to believe in impeachment. Shockingly, I now believe impeachment is one of the most absurd parts of the Constitution. And in this episode, I explain why. S2 Ep 54EP55: Bill Protzmann's Musimorphic, How Music Brings Healing & Grace - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
E**How can music bring grace to your world?** Music is not merely entertainment; it has powerful healing modalities. It can transform teams and tribes. It can integrate the person. Music enriches meditation, helps with depression, and aids motivation. Used correctly, it can heal the soul. A collection of favorite songs often plays a miraculous role in Alzheimer's patients and can provide a bridge with their memory loss caretakers. Music can even pave the path to social justice. Music can lead to grace. Find out how by tuning-in now. **This episode is a bit of role reversal** Bill Protzmann is normally the moderator of each episode of Gracearchy with Jim Babka. But today, he's the featured guest! I'm interviewing Bill because he's the proprietor of Musimorphic.com. Bill is, first and foremost, a musician. And you'll get to see him play both Rachmaninoff and ragtime in this episode. But he's also learned the power of music. Through Musimorphic he can help people enjoy all the benefits described above and more! In this episode, Bill explains how "we musicians are master manipulators," and he also... -Introduces you to new musicians (some are in the show notes). -Explains where politics is off-limits, why your mother would still want you to talk about music – better yet, listen to music together. -Covers how music can both prepare you for and assist you with meditation. Indeed, you'll begin to learn how you can access all the blessing music can provide in this joyful and instructive episode. S2 Ep 54EP54: Inflation Is Worse Than YOU Ever Thought - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
E**There are three descending levels of inflation. Do you know all three?** Do you know why the central bankers and politicians MUST inflate? Do you understand what the U.S. Dollar really represents? And why don't you have a flying car by now? In just ten-and-a-half minutes, we cover all of that and more! In just ten additional minutes, I completely counter... **The Wasted Vote Argument** Maybe we can solve the inflation problem by selecting better politicians. Maybe we need to compromise a little and vote, well, Republican? I undermine the myth at the center of both the lesser of two evils and the wasted vote argument. I also present a question based on a self-evident fact. The answer is obvious. What does matter in a voting booth? How should you decide? And, does it make any difference. Check out this short episode of Gracearchy. You'll want to steal my lines in your next conversation on either of these topics. 0:00 Intro 0:43 A Thursday appearance, Gary Nolan Show 2:18 First level inflation 4:12 Second level inflation 5:10 More with less 6:52 Why they must inflate 7:21 What your future looks like 7:50 We should have flying cars by now 8:24 F.R.A.U.D.'s 10:12 What can WE do to stop inflation? 11:27 What can You do to stop inflation? 12:38 Why we discussed the wasted vote, next 14:23 Over the cliff now or later? 15:36 Pretending you pick the winner 16:39 You've only got one ballot to express your values 17:45 Who owns your vote? 19:07 If it came down to your vote... 20:06 Discounting the value of morality 21:35 No historical evidence for Gary's bloc position 22:59 Feeling guilty about a wasted vote 24:30 Gracearchy Labs 25:46 Can we save the people who are awake? 26:52 Kudos to Gary Nolan We are grateful to Gary Nolan and the Zimmer Communications Network, where Gary's show appears every weekday on The Eagle 93.3 out of Columbia, Missouri - https://939theeagle.com/the-gary-nolan-show/ Bill Protzmann is your moderator. S2 Ep 53EP53: RFK vs Hotez on Joe Rogan - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
EJoe Rogan provides Dr. Peter Hotez an opportunity to debate and defeat RFK on the largest talk show in the nation. The dispute would be over covid vaccines, but knowing the two men's previous history, it would inevitably include childhood vaccinations. And Rogan promised a lot of money to Hotez's preferred charity. He's also promised unlimited time so that cheap debate tactics like the "Gish Gallop" (a favorite of conspiracy theorists) won't work. Yet… **Hotez won't take the opportunity. Why?** The New York Times says it's because "You can't win a debate against someone who disregards facts." Well, that shoe might fit on both of these debaters! This episode features a funny illustration of that. But public debates are not necessarily won by changing the mind of your interlocutor. There are three ways a debate can be valuable... You can enlighten someone, Your vast ignorance is cured, or You can teach an observer to the discussion. Debates that don't do one of these three things are mere contentiousness. Perhaps this debate would be a "teach an observer" moment. **Peter Hotez should debate Bobby Kennedy** One of the things we strive to do on Gracearchy is to steelman each side (the opposite of strawmanning). In this case, we explain to Dr. Hotez why accepting this offer is proper and how it will be beneficial to the advancement of his values. I even coach him with ways to turn the debate to his benefit. Why? Because national healing is needed. And we explain why part of that process will require an admission of things the authorities got wrong and the lessons they learned from them. The opposite approach - the current refusal to dialogue - is neither respectful nor healing. Instead, it will leave tens of millions of people suspicious and even angry. Surely, we can all recognize telling people they are stupid and they should shut up won't heal things. If such a debate occurs, which side do I want to see win? My answer might surprise you. And it's revealed in this "two-commute" length episode. S2 Ep 52EP52: Southern Baptists vs Rick Warren - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
EWhich side was right, Rick Warren or the Southern Baptist Convention? When the Southern Baptist Convention's Annual Meeting hits the headlines each and every June, the media focuses on the culture war and, if anything, amplifies it. The actions of the messengers (the term the SBC uses for its attendees) are always stunning – like, can you believe they just did that? This year was no different. Rick Warren's megachurch, Saddleback, was removed from the SBC for making women teaching pastors. The stunning part to observers is that it's 2023. The culture wars today have moved on to transitioning genders. A woman pastor debate seems so 1980s. Now, you can read the regime media accounts, and you'll see this kind of coverage everywhere. But if you tune into Gracearchy, you get an analysis that is distinctly different. The culture war at the gates of the temple One of the joys of this podcast, for me, is watching Jim process his thoughts. We plan each show. Some are loose. Some are nearly scripted. Yet... Jim always goes off-script. Sometimes, I know where he's going. Other times, he surprises me – and he'll surprise you in this episode, as well. I came to this show curious about the culture war questions. I was wondering, "How can these denominations stop having these civil wars and get to unity?" I discovered, there was a more root-level question. And it involves the root word for church and the expectations attached to that concept. That Greek word is ekklesia. I finished the episode with new insight and feeling very moved. I anticipate the same thing for you. I'm your moderator, Bill Protzmann. Thanks for listening. :00 Intro :43 Southern Baptists background 2:40 Politics at church 4:50 Culture war comes home 5:30 Bad testimony 5:54 Critique of both sides 9:43 Freedom of Association 12:04 Give the cake away 13:14 Understanding greater than agreeing 15:00 The source of rights 15:38 What gets in the way of understanding 18:50 The DONES 19:53 The church was intended to be... 23:12 Start your own group 26:00 Honorarium level 29:12 From misallocation to manipulation 31:49 Bringing division to church 32:24 The most important thing about you 33:02 Ekklesia defined 34:00 Why ekklesia instead of temple? 37:02 How the service government works 39:58 Not power over; it's server under 40:13 Power instead of relationship 41:10 Ekklesia instead of a temple Bill Protzmann is your moderator. S2 Ep 51EP51: Faith Without Love Is Dead - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
E8 Reflections on Faith & Religion Skeptics and nonbelievers are right to reject the religion and faith they've been presented by believers. You might be tempted to take that statement at face value. Don't! Everything you've been told about religion and faith is wrong. That goes for believers and nonbelievers alike. Presented here are eight personal expressions on religion and faith... Most of the eight items (covered in just 35 minutes) could be their own episode. But if we could oversimplify... -Religion is an artifact of violence. -Faith is blind adherence to religion. -And God is on our side in this violence! This won't get us to a Zero Aggression society. And we're saying all of this, as believers! S1 Ep 49EP49: The Hong Konger - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
Jimmy Lai came from mainland China – from a communist hell – to experience freedom to the fullest. He used that freedom to build a retail clothing empire in the East and then a media empire. Jimmy realized that freedom the freedom he discovered in Hong Kong was a blessing, even a gift. He was grateful for it. And so he spoke up for it as the Chinese Communist Party came to steal it. In fact, he paid a high price... He gave up his businesses, his wealth, and even his liberty. He sits in a cage. Jimmy is the subject of the new film, The Hong Konger. S1 Ep 47EP47: NY Times Loves the National Debt - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
EWill any amount of YOUR money satisfy the New York Times? Wow! The New York Times has been pontificating about the supposed debt ceiling crisis, but they're getting it all wrong. Jim Babka and Bill Proztmann examine the errors and provide better answers in the latest episode of Gracearchy with Jim Babka. The New York Times claims... -The Republicans have abused the debt ceiling and the Democrats haven't. -The Democrats are 90% right about the budget, while the GOP is only 10% right. -There are only four paths this supposed crisis can follow. All three of these claims are wrong, and Jim provides correctives to each of these errors. Jim Babka also demonstrates that... -The two parties have used the debt ceiling in much the same way. -There is an unaddressed problem that suggests the Democrats and Republicans are both wrong about spending and the debt. -The most important option is one that the Times failed to even consider among its four alternatives! So The Times is not even 90% correct! Jim also addresses an important question about The New York Times' worldview... Is there any amount of YOUR money that will satisfy The Times? Jim also explains how debt is bondage, and makes some predictions about where this conflict will lead. And here's something you'll only hear on Gracearchy – the connection between forgiveness and debt. You'll learn how to apply the power of forgiveness to this issue. Check it out! S1 Ep 46EP46: Deeper Truths: CNN Features Trump & Fox Fires Tucker
ECNN features Trump. Fox fires Tucker. Is it important or a distraction? If you consume media, even alternative media, we guarantee most of what you've heard has been transitory and fleeting. The partisan commentators say the same things over and over. But is there something deeper happening here? Yes, because... There's a reason CNN featured Trump in his own town hall, despite the fact that the network has been so opposed to Trump. On top of that, there's an interesting history of how he became president, and it helps explain why he's both so loved and loathed. Also, Tucker Carlson's firing is a signal – a harbinger of likely events to come in in the second half of this decade. If you think the censorship and disinformation war was ugly, you've not seen anything yet. We explain the deeper meanings of these two events in the newest episode of Gracearchy. Is the media in control of what you think about and what you discuss with friends? 95% of the time, the answer is yes. We'd like to think that the type of people who'd be reading this, who'd tune into the show, are made of different, better stuff... That they're part of the 5% above it all. But we also see the open rates when we fail to play... The Agenda Setters Game Agenda Setting Theory is a well-worn, time-tested fact. Most people talking about politics, war, and policy are talking about what the national media is currently featuring, what's on the front page of the newspaper, and what's being debated on your local talk radio show. But there is a way to rise above it. And not only that. There's also a way to... Beat the regime media at their game! And you'll want to discover that, too, in this latest episode of Gracearchy with Jim Babka. S1 Ep 45EP45: The Gish Gallop to Gomorrah - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
There's a line of reasoning amongst many traditionalist conservatives. The Eisenhower years were essentially the Garden of Eden, and then... The Fall. The 1960s. The Original Sin varies from commentator to commentator. It could be… The Beatles. Prayer removed from public schools. Hippies. Drug culture. Vietnam protests. And more (as you'll see in a moment). In every case, they argue respect for tradition and authority went out the window – and with it came the destruction of American culture. It's been downhill ever since! All our present social troubles, the deviancy, and the terrors that presently surround us, all trace back to this Fall. Even when the believers in this myth aren't explicit, they still imply that if we could just get back to the way things were done in the 1950s (or some other halcyon moment) then everything would be fine. Does this make sense? A listener sent an article to us. The author of that piece had his own hypothesis... The Original Sin in this case is The Pill. The writer is speaking of the contraceptive taken by millions of women every year. This particular writer believes The Pill opened up sexual possibilities, permitted people to experiment, and now look at what they're doing! He traces its role in the hatred of motherhood and familial responsibility, abortion, pornography, Hillary Clinton, and tampons in the boy's room. Eventually, this led to communism at the highest levels of our government. We're on a Gish Gallop to Gomorrah! The argumentation style of the piece is quite typical for this genre. In this episode of Gracearchy, we cover four hallmarks of articles and arguments like this. Spotting them is the first step. Knowing how to counter them is the second. We cover both steps in this episode. Not everyone always has time to listen right away, so we'll share the four hallmarks with you here. But we hope you'll listen, later, to get all of the details. 1. The Gish Gallop. 2. Treating objects as moral actors. 3. Turning an ought into an is. 4. The purpose of Sex. Timeline 0:00 Intro 0:44 Fundamentalists losing control 2:04 Nostalgia-ism 3:42 Gish Gallop 7:18 Objects are not moral actors 8:10 Apocalypse has a poor track record 9:04 Hoplophobia 9:55 Is is not Ought 12:49 Grace for absolutists 14:37 Sex has several purposes 16:39 Individual subjective journey 18:57 Suppression of loving reason 20:37 Eisenhower in the Garden of Eden 21:11 Review of four rules 22:17 Grace points Bill Protzmann is your moderator. S1 Ep 44EP44: 16 Things Jesus Never Said, But Sound Like Church - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
EHow sharp is Jim Babka after two days of insomnia? We were scheduled to record. But Jim wasn't quite ready to do the show we'd planned to do. He was frustrated. He was tired. You'll hear the exhaustion in Jim's voice. But I found this list. It sounds a bit like stuff you'd hear at an average church. And I couldn't help wondering what Jim would do with it. Well, Jim's mind doesn't stop. The results are unplanned and unvarnished. The 16 Things Jesus Never Said is based on a list by Jim Palmer, founder of the Center for Non-Religious Spirituality. The list takes various forms on social media and shows signs of "evolution." But most of them match a list Palmer himself published. Religious corruption in Beatitude language Here are three of the items on the list... * By this, all men will know you are my disciples, if you have correct theology.” * “If you love me, you will regularly attend an approved Bible-teaching church.” * “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in Heaven after the earth goes up in flames and is destroyed.” And Jim ends up taking us into some radical and interesting places... * That religion exalts murder. * The time that Jim became a pastor, and how it hurt. * Why tithing is theft. * How religion loves hell more than the gospel. * The flaw of church as a corporation. Jim also reveals that one of the things on Palmer's list is a trap, and he has to be careful to avoid it. Timeline 0:00 Intro 0:43 Sinners in the hands of an angry god 2:26 I have come to give you religion 4:07 You are my disciples, if you have correct theology 5:21 Let them disparage all religions and their followers 6:36 If you love me, you'll attend an approved church 9:59 Blessed are the tithers 14:09 Thy kingdom come... after earth goes up in flames 16:55 Love your neighbor, meaning those attending your church 19:33 My father's house has many rooms; his hell hotel twice as much 23:17 The kingdom has come... S1 Ep 43EP43: The Establishment Strikes Back, The Steve Stockman Story - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
EWhen Voting Changes Things, They Make It Illegal Campaign finance laws are passed by incumbents. Obvious, right? But why? Claim One: Campaign finance laws are primarily designed to protect incumbents from challengers. But very few people understand that... Claim Two: Campaign finance laws also exist to destroy any troublemakers who manage to get elected - to make them a byword or notorious example of what happens to those who refuse to get "in line" with the establishment. Meet former U.S. Rep. Steve Stockman, from Texas -- he joins us on this episode of Gracearchy with Jim Babka. Rep. Stockman was a self-admitted troublemaker for the establishment. Steve alleges that campaign finance laws were used to send him to prison for the rest of his life, plus place him and his wife in permanent financial debt. In the previous episode, we explained how and why it was impossible to use federal campaign law to turn the 34 charges against Donald Trump into a single felony. I don't care what you think of Trump, but... Don't overlook the fact that they're using anti-constitutional, pro-establishment campaign finance laws to go after him! There are dramatic overlaps between Stockman's story and what Trump is going through right now. You can tune in and judge for yourself: Is Stockman's story significant evidence for my second claim that the establishment uses campaign finance laws to make examples out of, even destroy non-collaborators? And if either one of my two claims is true, what are the implications for this scheme they call "democracy?" S1 Ep 42EP42: Trump & The Rancid Truth About Campaign Finance Laws - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
EDonald Trump has been indicted. So what? You'll get news about that story, over the coming months, even if you're trying to avoid this story! THIS IS NOT ABOUT TRUMP OR HIS INDICTMENTS. Donald Trump's situation is an opportunity to educate people on a relevant issue... Hypothesis: Campaign finance laws are written by incumbents, and they're designed in ways that protects officeholders from challengers. It is also highly likely that these regulations have a secondary purpose, and that is to punish any challengers who breaks through, gets elected, but isn't an establishment "team player." Upset the system, and a petty campaign finance violation suddenly becomes a major criminal problem. This is the first of two episodes where I'm going to explain how and why those two statements are true. And I'm going to use Donald Trump's case to do it. And who am I to do that? I have worked in challenger campaigns and seen the effect of these laws. I've fought them in legislative stages and in the courts. In the former case, I could tell a story where John McCain tried to sic a crowd on me. In the latter case... I was the Executive Director for the group that was the organizing plaintiff and the primary funder for a case we took all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court challenging the McCain-Feingold. And one of our financial partners and co-plaintiffs for that case was none other than Citizens United, who'd have their own landmark Supreme Court decision several years later. In fact, you might notice that this show is an hour long and think you don't have the time. But the general principles explained in the first 29 minutes are so potent, that... - You'll know more about every future story (not just Trump's case) - where you see words like "candidate investigated for campaign finance violations" - then the reporters covering these cases! Plus, if you keep listening, you'll hear an argument no major media figure has advanced. Not even Trump's attorneys seem to know why Donald Trump absolutely did NOT commit a federal campaign finance violation in the Manhattan case. And if he didn't actually "influence" the election, then it's highly likely the 34 charges against him will not result in felony convictions. The Jeremiah Morgan link we promised during the episode... https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/12/why_did_michael_cohen_plead_guilty_to_campaign_finance_crimes_that_arent_campaign_finance_crimes.html Bill Protzmann is your moderator. S1 Ep 41EP41: COVID and the Spillover Gang - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
EThe Natural Origin Conspiracy Theory A raccoon dog rumor can run around the world before the truth is done tying its shoes. The Atlantic chose to publish a hypothesis that was the subject of a World Health Organization conference call. It wasn't even a pre-print yet, let alone a peer-reviewed study. The claim: A raccoon dog transmitted the SarsCov-2 virus to humans at the Huanan Wet Market in Wuhan. The author of the Atlantic article, Katherine Wu, went on the PBS News Hour, declaring that they'd found the equivalent of fingerprints at the crime scene. Wu also expressed her "hope that some people will be swayed" away from the Lab Leak explanation. Wu's presentation of this story is an extreme overstatement. Here's what you need to know... The "scientific consensus" does not favor the Wet Market story. In this episode, we introduce you to the #SpilloverGang - the tiny, connected group behind the Wet Market story. The Spillover Gang has had other culprits for this crime - bats, pangolins, and now the raccoon dog. But this is like the accused murderer who is too late to commit the crime. We'll show you how this conspiracy theory cannot get past Go. Turn the Other Cheek These days, it's considered heresy to publicly question The Science. Free expression has been censored for partisan and geopolitical narratives, so we cannot trust that we won't be banned. It's happened to others. That's why we're encouraging you to download the show. S1 Ep 39EP39: The Constitution Is A Multi-Cultural Document - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
EThe Constitution is a multicultural document. But not a "living document." Do you know the ground rules of Constitutional interpretation? So, a friend walks into his podcast... [That line should be read in the same tone as a joke that begins, "A man walks into a bar."] A friend walks into his podcast and says, "We need to get back to the Constitution." He bemoans how many political folks are ignoring some elements of this document. So what's the punchline? Well, he's got exceptions too! The Constitution doesn't just protect the people you like - doesn't merely serve your political allies or the people who look like you. The Constitution is, in the truest, most sincere sense... A Multicultural Document This is the Grace view – Everyone matters. All rights are pre-Constitutional. Yet so many Constitutional violations start with depersonalizing others who are different than us: "Principles be damned! We must stop these bad guys!" The drive to make the Constitution the document for our team has led to campaign finance laws, gun control laws, immigration restrictions, and many more evils. That's why, at the outset of this episode, I established two "ground rules" for analyzing the Constitution. One of them is, quite literally, the interpretive key. Do you know these rules? S1 Ep 37EP 37: Into the mind and motives of Jo Jorgensen, Libertarian - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
EJo Jorgensen reveals her 2024 plans and a campaign secret from the 2020 campaign. What does it look like inside the mind of a person who wins a party nomination and goes on to run for President? What makes them tick? Of course we might be scared to learn if we were talking about the typical authoritarian and statist candidate. But what if this person was motivated by something that was not about their own personal glorification? Jo Jorgensen joined us for our most recent episode of Gracearchy with Jim Babka. Dr. Jo Jorgensen was the Libertarian Party nominee for Vice President in 1996 and for President in 2000. She's leveraged her last campaign to help build People for Liberty and Home for Liberty, where she serves as Chair of the Board (Note: Jim Babka is on those boards with her). This discussion is wide-ranging, and Jo is charming. Indeed, the conversation is so wide-ranging that it gets way past the soundbites that a candidate typically deploys. This is a chance to get to know Jo, in a more human way. It's been said that a person's strongest character trait is also their weakest. Jo not only reveals that trait in her life, but also analyzes it with good humor. Perhaps for the first time ever, Jo reveals which one of the two major party campaigns was in talks with Jo's campaign about a televised debate, and how close it came to happening. Two weeks ago today, a Norfolk Southern train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, leading to what some are calling "Chernobyl on the Ohio" (as in, the Ohio River). The train was carrying roughly a million tons of vinyl chloride in five tankers. A decision was made to burn it, and East Palestine residents were forced to evacuate. The media was not featuring this story (only mentioning it in passing when it happened). Then, a reporter was even arrested while trying to cover a press conference featuring Governor Mike DeWine. "Well, Mr. Libertarian, how would you solve the problems of the people of East Palestine?" We get into the federal government's handling of this matter. Regulations don't make us safer, and accidents are more likely due to the involvement of the State. The clean-up process will tend to be dishonest and corrupt because it will be politically managed. Some suffering and damage won't be addressed as politicians protect their cronies, even though a ton of money will be spent. That's how the federal government actually works, in the real world, instead of the fantasy. That's why, in this episode, we go full voluntaryist. We explain how consumer-controlled government would address the problem. We reveal how a voluntary society would have more and better governance than we presently have, all without the coercive apparatus of the State. We lay out three levels of support that would be available to victims of train derailments and other corporate tragedies, in a post-statist society. Bill Protzmann is your moderator. EP35: CNN vs He Gets Us - Gracearchy with Jim Babka.mp3
EMust everything be about political tribalism? On this episode of Gracearchy with Jim Babka, we review an advertising campaign called "He Gets Us." We deconstruct CNN's take on this $100 million advertising campaign. You might've seen their commercials on TV. There were two of them during the Super Bowl. These ads are about Jesus. But at the hub of the Conflict Machine, lives a squeaky gear called CNN. Like the man with a hammer who sees nails everywhere and is ready to pound them, CNN is convinced they see another political movement. Does their evidence match up? Well, that's not the most interesting part... The political tribes and the regime media both insist we must join them in condemning those who disagree. Those who don't agree with us must be relegated to enemy status. And if we don't join in the virtual stoning, then we should be virtually stoned. So, if you tune in, you might well feel tempted to stone us, because… In this episode, we stand up for people on all sides, while pointing out CNN's contribution to the stoning. Frankly, I'm interested in knowing who will want to punish and maybe even destroy me. In this episode, we're providing plenty of targets as Bill and I discuss Jesus, abortion, conservatives, gay and transexual issues, the unwoke, and more. Bill Protzmann is your moderator. S1 Ep 34EP34: Spike Cohen's Spiritual Journey and Motivations - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
ESpike Cohen joins Gracearchy with Jim Babka. Because the show is Gracearchy, and because we are not just conflict machine (political) commentary... We have an interview with Spike as you've never seen him. Spike discusses his struggle with MS, the blessing it delivered, and how he arrived at his life meaning. In fact, he shares his personal life mission. He also reveals his "religious history," view of God, and personal spirituality. And he robustly explains why libertarianism is CHARITABLE, leading to a discussion about his new group, You Are The Power. This interview isn't perfect. Spike shows up unprepared! So you may prefer the YouTube version of this episode to see what we mean. EThe very best pro-immigrant primer. ANNOUNCEMENT: Spike Cohen will soon be joining us on Gracearchy with Jim Babka. Stay tuned for details. In 19 minutes, you can digest the prime arguments covering the... Moral Legal Practical Economic Strategic Historic ...reasons to be pro-immigrant. We used to have another podcast, from back in 2018. Perry Willis joined Jim on that program to race through our best case, hitting all of those points! The result was something you can study and use, or simply share with friends, so we decided to republish it on Gracearchy. S1 Ep 32EP32: What the Bible says about immigrants and sanctuary cities - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
Immigration is a debate in need of grace. Premises... All human beings are made in the image of God. We are all endowed by our creator with inalienable rights. Where did anyone get ideas like that? Well, one significant source is the Bible. In fact... The Old Testament even addresses the issue of illegal aliens and sanctuary cities. Ironically, it doesn't match what most right-wing biblicists advocate and vote for. Oh, the letters are going to come on this one! Well, for what it's worth, in the middle of this broadcast we show how the Old Testament undermines the phony welfare of the State too. If you are a believer, you'll directly benefit from this "Bible study." Even if you're not, you know someone who is a) a professing believer and b) anti-immigration, and this is a resource for you. In this episode of Gracearchy with Jim Babka, Bill and I are talking to those friends and associates for you. In addition to the verses quoted during the show, we also include these for your reference: Psalms 39 verse 12 Romans 12 verse 13 Ephesians 2 verses 12 and 19 Hebrews 13 verse 2 I Peter 1 verses 1 and 2 I Peter 2 verses 11 and 12 I Peter 3 verse 9 Gracearchy with Jim Babka is a show that transcends left-right conflict, offering respectful pathways forward instead. S1 Ep 30EP30: Gov Greg Abbott makes Texas poorer, blue sanctuary cities richer - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
EGovernor Greg Abbott sent out the following Tweet... Texas has bussed over 15,900 migrants to sanctuary cities: Over 8,900 to DC Over 4,900 to NYC Over 1,500 to Chicago O ver 690 to Philadelphia Bless your heart, Governor. But that's nothing to brag about. It should be freely admitted that the early weeks, maybe even months, after an immigrant arrives may cause a brief period of adjustment for the existing residents. But that feeling will be short-lived. It is an economic and political mistake to overreact to it. In fact… Governor Abbott is weakening his red state while empowering blue sanctuary cities. This statement is true both economically and politically. In this episode of Gracearchy with Jim Babka... We cover the positive impact of immigration on both GDP and per capita wealth. We personalize these economic aspects. We also ask population-related questions as they relate to international competitiveness, especially with China. Inspired by the book title, "One Billion Americans," we'll provide you with new, colorful, and memorable analogies that show why we want more people in the United States, not less. Indeed, this conversation veers into another population-related question - domestic birth rates. We devoted an entire episode to this matter this past summer. That episode, with economist Stephen Barrows, is evergreen/timeless. So we encourage you to check it out too. On top of those economic arguments, we veer into the political. We explain how Gov Abbott, a Republican, is growing the Democratic Party of the future. Immigration (and birth rates) are lightning rod issues. Every time we touch them, it sparks some nerves. We love questions. We're open to legitimate criticisms too - but legitimate means you listened and are now respectfully responding to an argument we actually made. As the saying goes, "Come let us reason together." S1 Ep 29EP29: Speaker McCarthy Battle - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
The NY Times and FoxNews hid the truth, from you, about the Speaker McCarthy battle The NY Times and FoxNews pretend to be on opposite sides. But neither one told the truth about the Speaker McCarthy battle. In fact, they agreed that you should be told it was a... Clown Show! They also agreed that you should be told that a fringe group of Republicans was trying to weaken their party. Their concerns were about their own personal aggrandizement and petty personal whims, such as electoral denial. This was the narrative of nearly every media outlet and both political parties. Why? As many listeners know, Jim is not just the host of Gracearchy with Jim Babka, but also the co-founder and president of Zero Aggression Project's sister organization, Agenda Setters by Downsize DC. There, Jim and Perry Willis co-authored the Read the Bills Act and One Subject at a Time Act, both of which have been repeatedly introduced in Congress. Today, we are pleased to report that those fringe Republicans snagged new rules. Bills are to be released 72 hours before a floor vote. That's not quite our Read the Bills Act, but the inspiration is clearly there! In addition, bills will be limited to a single subject and votes will be required every single time the House wants to waive the germaneness provision. That's not quite our One Subject at a Time Act, but the inspiration is obvious. Meanwhile, the NY Times says the worst is still to come: "The ultraconservatives have said that one of their main goals is to shrink the size of government. One way to achieve this goal is by pushing Congress toward inaction. Consider some of the assurances the holdout Republicans received from McCarthy: more time to read and debate legislation, as well as to propose unlimited changes to it." But why did the NY Times, FoxNews, and the rest of the regime media, along with both parties in the House, collude to tell you the same narrative? We get into all of that in this episode. You'll likely learn things about how Congress works that you've never heard before. S1 Ep 28EP28: Grace and the Damar Hamlin Moment - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
Exhibiting grace under pressure right after a scary event. 24-year-old Buffalo Bills safety, Damar Hamlin, made a routine tackle in a big, nationally-televised game. He got up. Stood. Then, unnaturally fell back. Everything changed. For those of us watching, it was surreal. Many of us hung on, long after we should've retired, hoping to get some good news. Damar is in our prayers. This story matters because it instantly became the top story. Whether you watch sports or not, there's an important aspect of culture for us to discuss. A National Pass-Fail Test of Grace The premise of Gracearchy is that government cannot be fixed by mere exertions of greater power. Even if it could, we libertarians and voluntaryists haven't found the necessary numbers, let alone the guile that seems necessary. The State gleans the power to coerce when enough people agree on who to blame. The matter here is grace under pressure. And the Damar Hamlin tragedy included the blame contagion. You've heard it said that the solution to every problem one sees in the media is that someone should be fired. Let us identify him or her or even them, and publicly shame them, then dispose of them. "They" should act on our instantly-formed opinion, derived from a deep sense of care about... What was his name again? Let us repair to social media where we can proclaim our outrage. In this very short episode, we discuss how ESPN handled the situation, the NFL's response (especially Zac Taylor), paid provocateur Skip Bayless, The Shot (you know the pharmaceutical we're talking about), and a piece of everlasting wisdom from Thomas Sowell. S1 Ep 27EP27: Jesus is the Revolutionary We Need Now - guest Dave Brisbin on Gracearchy with Jim Babka
EWhat your Christian friends believe makes YOUR world. Chances are, you have NOT thought about this before. Consider... The United States is the most powerful nation on the planet. For most of you reading this, it's your home country. And Christians are an extremely large demographic group influencing culture and politics. Perhaps you never thought about that before. Maybe you think about it regularly, and it scares you. We sat down and talked with Dave Brisbin, a pastor with a unique yet relatable life journey, to discuss "Who is Jesus?" Why should you tune in to this episode? Being a Christian is mostly about how you view Jesus. That's practically the theme of the Gospel of John. However, to be blunt: American Jesus seems more trouble than good. Progressive Christians might think they agree with that statement. But be warned: before you get on the bandwagon and cheer, remaking Jesus in your image is also trouble. Everywhere - work, home, community, and society - the tyranny of laws and rules (backed by violence) is used to either keep an artificial peace or tackle a social problem. The overwhelming majority of Americans think they can reform these inherently authoritarian (and anti-human) structures. And both tribes claim Jesus is on their side. Gracearchy involves replacing that bureaucratic way of thinking with a peacemaking, relational approach. Indeed, as Dave Brisbin reveals in this interview: Grace is an anarchic idea. It's showered on everyone equally, and that means it doesn't reward merit or status. It's unjust and upends castes. The very notion of grace is scandalous. At present, even religious Christians tend to literally stand in the way of this anarchic idea. They must. Christians tend to want certainty, formulas, metrics, security, and rules. They want to know the score of their virtue rank. They need "western Jesus" to preserve their scheme. Part of the "good news" of Christmas is that Jesus is NOT the guy marketed by Western philosophy and religion. Jesus was born a Hebrew. He taught using Hebrew cultural methods and concerns of the Jews of his day. What are the human (anthropological) implications of that fact? And whether you believe in Jesus or not, if you want a peaceful, Zero Aggression society, you must recognize that the question of who Jesus was and what his life means is not just a Christmas story. It's an issue that matters to all of us. Dave Brisbin's take? Jesus might just be the revolutionary we need. S1 Ep 26EP26: What Nobody Said About Brittney Griner - Gracearchy with Jim Babka
Were you unwittingly dragged into a conflict by people with agendas? Brittney Griner was released from a Russian prison. Meanwhile, Paul Whelan was overlooked. This story has nearly faded from the headlines, and the passion has dissipated – the way stories like this always do. But we calculate that 83% of things Bill and I have to say about Brittney Griner's release are new – unsaid elsewhere. In other words, you'll get something fresh from this episode. Even if this story is no longer "in the headlines"... We have six lessons that contain timeless utility if you possess them. In fact, you'll learn things in this episode of Graceachy that you'll be able to repeatedly apply in the future. One of the insights compares President Biden to comedian Steve Martin at a carnival. EShow Notes Jim's ten prophetic questions from August of 2020 are listed here for clarity; you'll get his answers and August 2022 commentary in the episode. 1) Who has the greater sum of knowledge - one person or millions of people? 2) Which approach will be more robust: One person coordinating millions of humans to take a single action, or millions of people making billions of decisions and taking millions of actions? 3) When an individual makes a mistake, it might affect a handful, dozens, and (in rare cases) hundreds of people, but when a governor, a federal bureaucracy, or the President makes a mistake, are not millions, even tens of millions affected? 4) How often do humans fail to act in response to danger? 5) Was Walmart (amongst others) showing self-interested, profit-primary behavior when they created a special shopping hour for vulnerable people, encouraged one-way aisles, and instituted intensive cleaning measures (that proved to be overkill)? 6) Have the various political edicts of covid increased or decreased social harmony and cooperation? 7) Isn't it the case that, once a decision becomes political, it's no longer really scientific? That instead of actual science, it's going to be left up to Donald Trump and Nancy Pelosi? …to Mike DeWine or Andrew Cuomo? 8) Do politicians respond more to fear or to facts? 9) The politicians and the bureaucrats have moved goalposts, changed stories, dropped balls, and flat-out lied. Why, this time, should we assume that their involvement will make things better? 10) How do you keep special interests from exploiting the pandemic to create unearned profits - profits that go beyond what a free market would provide? Here's the original August 2020 Facebook post that started it all: https://www.facebook.com/jbabka/posts/pfbid02p86fgThuYmPzoQkVv89apZweXRFJ32ikva998s5KNvqcQUijV1eEnFc4cpMrs2TFl?comment_id=10159957355040830&reply_comment_id=10159957365405830 Be grace-full to each other.
