Ep 34Embracing the Slow Burn with Thea Larsen

Thea is a working ranch wife and mom to two little cowboys, and the founder and host of all things Cowgirls Over Coffee. She’s on a mission to help women quit ‘white knuckling it’ through their days, and navigate a life that can get a little Western. It’s easy to get caught up in feeling like you have to go, go, go and do #allthethings all the time, but if you really think about it, that’s not possible, and it’s NOT how we were meant to live. Life is a journey, not a destination; your growth and ‘inner work’ is never completely done, which is actually a beautiful thing. This was such a fun conversation with Thea, and she shared so much relatable wisdom. I hope it reminds you about the value that comes from good movement, and embracing the slow burn in your everyday life!In this episode, we cover:The major identity shift and whirlwind journey Thea experienced with marriage, career changes, and having children + how this led her to create Cowgirls Over CoffeeChoosing to embrace the chaos instead of embracing mediocrity + believing that you can have it all, once you understand what YOU specific ‘all’ is in your lifeWhy you have to continually pour into yourself and do the not so ‘fun’ or ‘flashy’ things, in order to live a fulfilling life you’re actually excited aboutFostering joy in the ‘slow burn’, everyday things, instead of staying in that instant gratification, Amazon prime mindset our society is so accustomed toWhy good movement should be flexible, purposeful, and bring more ease into your life vs. keeping you ‘stuck’ and stopped upResources & Links:Join the waitlist for the Good Movement CollectiveGood Movement TrainingsGood Movement music by: Aaron EspePodcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Thea:Follow on Instagram @cowgirlsovercoffee and @thea.does.the.thingsFollow on FacebookCheck out her websiteListen to Thea’s podcast: Cowgirls Over Coffee Connect with Terryn:Follow on Instagram @terryn.drielingCheck out my websiteSend me an email at [email protected] Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode!Find the complete show notes here: https://terryndrieling.com/embracing-the-slow-burn-with-thea-larsen-episode-34

Ep 33What Happens When Honest Questions Are Met with Resistance?

Today I want to touch on one of my favorite tools you can use to improve communication - asking honest questions! This is something I like to discuss often on the podcast, because I believe that honest questions and compassionate curiosity are one of THE best ways we can improve overall communication in our society. However, I also know this process doesn’t always feel natural - both for the person asking, and for the person on the receiving end.In this episode, we cover:What to do when you ask honest questions and receive honest answers with pushback from othersHow to get others (especially those from an older generation) to answer honest questions in the ‘heat of the moment’, and/or when you really need answersThe importance of modeling the behaviors you want to to see from othersResources & Links:Nebraska Women in Ag Herd That! Ep 32Spoiler Alert - There's Nothing Wrong with Talking About How We Really Are

In today’s episode, I discuss why there’s nothing wrong with talking about how we really are. Sometimes...things just SUCK. We have to be able to acknowledge our feelings, and normalize sharing honest answers when someone asks us how we’re doing. We shouldn’t feel like we need to sugarcoat our responses in order to appear like we have it all together - who is that actually helping anyway?!In this episode, we cover:Why there’s nothing wrong with admitting that things are hard, and just kind of ‘suck’ sometimesNormalizing asking honest questions AND seeking honest answers, instead of simply asking as a nicety in passingWhy suppressed emotions are actually like mold + what to do when we experience this Resources & Links:Nebraska Women in Ag Herd That! Ep 313 Things I'm Doing to Take Care of Me

At the time of this recording, we’re officially halfway through calving season, and at the tail end of the school year, so alllllll the things are going on! It’s also been one year since my dad passed away, and in all honesty, I am TIRED. Yeah...you could say I’m feeling kind of ‘meh’ about life right now. I know we all experience busy, chaotic, and quite frankly, draining times like these, so I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to share some simple ways of how I’m still prioritizing myself along the way.No matter where you are, I want you to remember that we’re all HUMAN, and it’s important to find simple, everyday things that can help you prioritize yourself and your well-being along the way. After all, good movement, communication, and health and wellness are not a destination, friend; we’re all just learning and adjusting along the way!In this episode, we cover:My experience with regular healing sessions over the last year + what I’ve learned about myself during this processMy relationship with running + how the ‘inner work’ I’ve done recently has shown me just how much it’s impacting my mental and emotional well-beingHow I’m spending regular time in the Word and making this an important part of my morning routine Resources & Links:Daily Audio Bible ChronologicalThe Collagen I’m TakingThe Colostrum I’m Taking (my affiliate link)Connect with JadaJoin the waitlist for the Good Movement CollectiveJoin the waitlist for the Start with You MastermindGood Movement music by: Aaron EspePodcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn:Follow on Instagram @terryn.drielingCheck out my websiteSend me an email at [email protected] Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode!Find the complete show notes here: https://terryndrieling.com/3-things-im-doing-to-take-care-of-me-episode-31

Ep 30Let’s Normalize Asking Questions

E

Tom and I are here today to talk about a situation we just experienced with our cows - you could say it was rather...frustrating.We’ve been practicing low stress stockmanship for almost two decades; it’s rare that we have to reach out to others for support, but in this case, we knew that was the best option for us to move forward. In today’s episode, Tom and I discuss more about why we should normalize asking questions, even though it feels difficult to do so in our society. Fortunately, Tom and I have wonderful mentors who are very well versed in low stress stockmanship. While their advice was helpful, their validation and support letting us know we weren’t alone with our ‘challenging’ cows was even MORE beneficial for us in that moment. In this episode, we cover:Our recent situation of struggling to get a few select heavy cows to enter a gate where they needed to go + the variety of emotions that came with this ordealWhy we decided to reach out to our mentors for support + the feedback we receivedWhy it feels so hard to ask for questions in our society + why we really need to normalize doing soResources & Links:Join the waitlist for the Good Movement CollectiveJoin the waitlist for the Start with You MastermindGood Movement music by: Aaron EspePodcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn:Follow on Instagram @terryn.drielingCheck out my websiteSend me an email at [email protected] sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode!Find the complete show notes here: https://terryndrieling.com/lets-normalize-asking-questions-episode-30

Ep 29Just How Much Positive Does It Take to Counter One Negative?

In today’s episode, I talk about how much positive it takes to counter one negative. After learning more about this particular ratio, and how it affects people’s overall moods and performance levels, it has me wondering what in the WORLD are we doing as a society?! I’m also sharing more about the amount of negativity (especially regarding news online and in real life) we come into contact with daily, and simple ideas for you to start noticing MORE of the positives around you in your everyday life.In this episode, we cover:The amount of positive comments it takes to counter the effects of a negative commentUnderstanding that you were NOT created to deal with and hold so much negativity that we have in our world todayIdeas to help you notice more of the positive (instead of negative) around youResources & Links:The Happiness Advantage by Shawn AchorBig Potential by Shawn AchorBefore Happiness by Shawn AchorJoin the waitlist for the Good Movement CollectiveJoin the waitlist for the Start with You MastermindGood Movement music by: Aaron EspePodcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn:Follow on Instagram @terryn.drielingCheck out my websiteSend me an email at [email protected] Related Episodes: Episode 5 | Fostering Joy in the Everyday Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode!Find the complete show notes here: https://terryndrieling.com/just-how-much-positive-does-it-take-to-counter-one-negative-episode-29

Ep 28How We Prepare for Busy Seasons

E

In today’s episode, Tom and I discuss how we prepare for busy seasons, and really, how we continue practicing open communication during calving season. We bounced around with several different topics in this episode, from putting out fires (literally), to moving cows, and communicating with each other through it all. Ultimately, we want to remind you HOW essential good, quality communication is - during busy seasons, slow seasons, and every season in between! In this episode, we cover:A recent, high-stress situation dealing with 2 fires close to where we liveWays that we stay in communication with everything going on during calving seasonWhat calving season has looked like for us regarding communication, preparation, method, etc. so farWhy we tend to communicate more often during calving seasonCreating a shared note that can be sent to others you’re working with + doing a daily debriefing with each other after taking care of the cowsThe importance of gaining your cows’ trust so you can achieve good movement + also understanding that cows will feel and feed off your energyResources & Links:Join the waitlist for the Good Movement CollectiveJoin the waitlist for the Start with You MastermindGood Movement music by: Aaron EspePodcast produced by: Jill Carr PodcastingConnect with Terryn:Follow on Instagram @terryn.drielingCheck out my websiteSend me an email at [email protected] Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode!Find the complete show notes here: https://terryndrieling.com/how-we-prepare-for-busy-seasons-episode-28

Ep 27What is the Purpose of Emotions?

While I talked about how we typically approach emotions in rural America in episode 25, I didn’t get into what emotions are, or what their specific purpose is. In today’s episode, I talk about the purpose of emotions, and why they matter much more than we may think. I’m sharing my thoughts on the key connection between emotions and communication, what various types of emotions are trying to communicate and the needs they represent, and even how a Feelings Wheel can support you with identifying and processing specific emotions. In this episode, we cover:What emotions really are + the limbic system’s role with emotionsThe important connection regarding emotions and communicationExamples of emotions and what they’re trying to communicate + what needs they representHow a Feelings Wheel can help you better specify and process your emotions, instead of shove them downResources & Links:The Feelings WheelJoin the waitlist for the Good Movement CollectiveJoin the waitlist for the Start with You MastermindGood Movement music by: Aaron EspePodcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn:Follow on Instagram @terryn.drielingCheck out my websiteSend me an email at [email protected] Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode!Find the complete show notes here: https://terryndrieling.com/what-is-the-purpose-of-emotions-episode-27

Ep 25The 'Thick Skin' Myth and How We View Emotions in Rural America

For way too long, we’ve been taught that emoting is ‘bad’, and having ‘thick skin’ is the best way to show strength. In today’s episode, I’m sharing more about the ‘thick skin’ myth, and how we view emotions in rural America. I’m discussing more about what it really means for our health and well-being when we’re constantly repressing and numbing our emotions, the recent, alarming suicide rates in the farming and ag space, how we can actually go about changing the status quo in our communication and relationships in rural America, and more.In this episode, we cover:The difference between someone who is a ‘snowflake’ and someone who has ‘thick skin’What it really means for ourselves and our overall health when we’re continually repressing and numbing our emotions + recent suicide rates in agricultureWhy it’s time to change the status quo in how we approach emotions, communication, and relationships in rural America + steps to actually do thisA simple practice to help you get quicker and better at feeling your emotionsResources & Links:2020 Study on Suicide Rates by Industry and Occupation2021 Study on Suicide Risk Factors Among Farmers in MIdwestern U.S.Join the waitlist for the Good Movement CollectiveJoin the waitlist for the Start with You MastermindGood Movement music by: Aaron EspePodcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn:Follow on Instagram @terryn.drielingCheck out my websiteSend me an email at [email protected] sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode!Find the complete show notes here: https://terryndrieling.com/the-thick-skin-myth-and-how-we-view-emotions-in-rural-america-episode-25

Ep 24How to Get Others to Do the Personal Growth Work with Tom

E

Everyone’s favorite guest (yep..my husband, Tom), is back for another episode! In today’s episode, we share about how to get others to do the personal growth work, and why you really can’t get attached to the results (no matter what they decide to do). We’re talking about the equilibrium dynamic in relationships and why people really do learn from watching what you’re doing, how the personal growth you’re doing will not only improve yourself, but also the relationships with your kids, breaking generational cycles, using the Enneagram to bring more awareness to your emotions, and more.In this episode, we cover:Understanding you can’t really ‘make’ others do the personal growth, and you can’t get attached to the outcome (no matter what they end up doing)The equilibrium in relationships + why people really do learn through imitationHow working on yourself can improve relationships with your kids + truly break generational cyclesHow the Enneagram can be a powerful tool to educate and bring awareness to your emotionsFinding a therapist and/or someone who understands your particular struggles, lifestyle, etc.Resources & Links:Join the waitlist for the Good Movement CollectiveJoin the waitlist for the Start with You MastermindGood Movement music by: Aaron EspePodcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn:Follow on Instagram @terryn.drielingCheck out my websiteSend me an email at [email protected] Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode!Find the complete show notes here: https://terryndrieling.com/how-to-get-others-to-do-the-personal-growth-work-with-tom-episode-24

Ep 23Behaviors Are a Clue but Not the Whole Story

I’ve got a fun episode for you today, and it’s a little different than any of the others up to this point. It’s actually one of the lessons available inside the Good Movement Collective, and it’s all about motivations and behaviors! I believe that we're all shaped by our upbringings, experiences, etc., and there's always a reason WHY people behave and believe the way that they do.In this episode, we cover:The difference between motivations and behaviorsHow motivations and behaviors are really connectedUnderstanding that you can’t determine your Enneagram type based solely off of behaviorsDeciding if you will continue to allow certain behaviors to run your life (even when they aren’t serving you), or choose to change your behaviors in order to yield a better resultDigging into what your core motivation really is, and how it’s showing up in your lifeResources & Links:Join the Good Movement CollectiveGood Movement TrainingsLearn more about T’s coaching, group trainings, and self-guided learningShop FFBGood Movement music by: Aaron EspePodcast produced by: Jill Carr PodcastingConnect with Terryn:Follow on Instagram @terryn.drielingCheck out my websiteSend me an email at [email protected] sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode!Find the complete show notes here: https://terryndrieling.com/behaviors-are-a-clue-but-not-the-whole-story-episode-23

Ep 22Introducing the Good Movement Collective

I’ve lived in rural America my whole life, and I understand the unique dynamic that rural living brings to relationships. I've also found that the stockmanship principle of good movement applies not only to our interactions with livestock, but also to the interactions with our fellow humans. In today’s episode, I share more about the Good Movement Collective - specifically, why I saw a need to create this program in the first place, what you will learn and gain from this program, and how the content, teaching, support, etc., will be delivered to you. While I know my relationships are far from perfect, I’ve also learned that God lays things on my heart for a reason, and he continues to send me signs until I take action (like..I need ALL the signs). After many conversations with other rural women, I saw the need to provide support in a space that would allow them to break cycles, learn, and grow in any/all of their relationships. If you’re ready to break free from the overwhelm that comes with unresolved emotions, unspoken thoughts, and experience a newfound sense of peace and joy in your life, I would love nothing more than to have you join the Good Movement Collective! In this episode, we cover:Why I decided to create the Good Movement CollectiveWhat you can expect and gain from the Good Movement CollectiveThe type of content and how it will be delivered to you + personalized guidance, support, and more from meResources & Links:Join the Good Movement CollectiveGood Movement TrainingsLearn more about T’s coaching, group trainings, and self-guided learningShop FFBGood Movement music by: Aaron EspePodcast produced by: Jill Carr PodcastingConnect with Terryn:Follow on Instagram @terryn.drielingCheck out my websiteSend me an email at [email protected] sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode!Find the complete show notes here: https://terryndrieling.com/introducing-the-good-movement-collective-episode-22

Ep 2020. An Unpopular Opinion - I Don't Find the Humor Worth the Harm

The way we’re currently doing things in rural America is not only hurting our relationships, but our mental health too, and it’s only going to continue if something doesn’t change. In today’s episode, I share more about focusing on self-awareness and using the Enneagram as a supportive tool to do so, why we need to start ‘filling in the blanks’ with honest questions vs. fictional stories we create in our heads, and the framework that connects self-awareness, social awareness, and communication. In this episode, we cover: Working to improve the communication breakdown that typically happens in the agricultural sector, instead of making jokes and celebrating it online Focusing on self-awareness and how our actions affect others + using the Enneagram as a tool to do so How social awareness comes into play when we start observing other people’s behaviors + the connection with communication breakdown Choosing to ‘fill in the blanks’ with honest questions, instead of creating fictional stories and scenarios in our heads Resources & Links: Join the waitlist for the Good Movement Collective Good Movement Trainings Good Movement 1:1 Coaching Membership Learn more about T’s coaching, group trainings, and self-guided learning Shop FFB Good Movement music by: Aaron Espe Podcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn: Follow on Instagram @terryn.drieling Check out my website Send me an email at [email protected] Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode!

Ep 1919. Mad Libs of the Mind - Filling in the Blanks with Fact Over Fiction

Our brains don’t like mystery or ambiguity, and they are really, really good at filling in the blanks. Unfortunately, this can wreak havoc on our mental and emotional well-being, as well as negatively impact our relationships. In today’s episode, I share more about how this shows up in my own life, as well as simple ways you can start filling in the blanks with more fact than fiction (no more unnecessary mad libs of the mind)! If you find yourself nodding along with this episode and resonating with filling in the blanks with fact over fiction most of the time, or you’re feeling emotionally tapped out and overwhelmed, I’m excited to bring you the Good Movement Collective. You can check out the link in the show notes below to learn more about this and join the waitlist, so you’ll be the first in line to know when the doors are officially open! In this episode, we cover: How I start filling in the blanks and stressing myself out, even though I don’t have the full story from the other person The elaborate (and scary) story I weaved regarding a conversation I needed to have with a friend + how it played out Simple ways you can start filling in the blanks with more fact than fiction Resources & Links: Join the waitlist for the Good Movement Collective Good Movement Trainings Good Movement 1:1 Coaching Membership Learn more about T’s coaching, group trainings, and self-guided learning Shop FFB Good Movement music by: Aaron Espe Podcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn: Follow on Instagram @terryn.drieling Check out my website Send me an email at [email protected] Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode!

Ep 1818. Talking Curiosity and Kindness with My Mother In-Law

I have a special episode to share with you today - a conversation that is with none other than my wonderful mother-in-law, Kathy! Kathy and I have quite a bit in common - we’re both stubborn and are deep thinkers (we are the same Enneagram type after all, which is pretty cool). Kathy has had a variety of careers over the years, and she’s also been drawing good movement for quite some time, so I’m excited for you to hear her unique perspective. Curiosity and kindness may not be super flashy things, but they really do matter in the interactions we have with other people. I always learn when I get to talk with Kathy, and this conversation was no different - I know you’ll enjoy learning from her too! In this episode, we cover: Approaching everyone with respect by taking the time to really listen to them + how that builds rapport over time Choosing curiosity and not being afraid to continue asking questions The stereotypes Kathy experienced with being from California + being consistent and subtle when connecting with others Why extending empathy and practicing self-awareness really go a long way The impact good movement had on Tom from a young age, and how that’s evolved over time A big misconception surrounding good movement Why context plays a huge role in our interactions Breaking the cycle of rude with something kind instead Why being older doesn’t automatically equal having wisdom Resources & Links: Good Movement Trainings Learn more about T’s coaching, group trainings, and self-guided learning Shop FFB Good Movement music by: Aaron Espe Podcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn: Follow on Instagram @terryn.drieling Check out my website Send me an email at [email protected] Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode!

I’m honored to have Jessie Jarvis on the podcast today! Jessie has a true passion for the ag and western industries, which led her to create her company, Of The West, a job platform built specifically to connect hundreds of employers and job seekers in these industries. We talk all about some of the key communication challenges that arise (not only in the ag and western spaces, but everywhere in our society), choosing to show up and BE the actual change you want to see in the world, why a strong work ethic, communication skills, and other soft skills matter more than you think, and more. Jessie Jarvis is a wife, mother, third-generation rancher, and Founder of Of The West. I know so many of us can resonate with the ups and downs in life, and especially, those challenging ‘winter’ seasons that are bound to happen. In this episode, I talk more about how the seasons of our lives usually match nature’s seasons, the crisp clarity and opportunity that can come from those cold, dark winters we experience in our lives, how to actually face your winters head-on, and more. In this episode, we cover: How the seasons of our lives tend to mimic nature’s seasons The clarity and opportunity that can still arise from the cold and dark ‘winters’ we experience in our own lives Why we must face our personal winters head-on Some of my own tried and true ways that have helped me get through my own ‘winters’ Resources & Links: Let Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation by Parker J. Ep 1515. Repairing After a Fight

My husband, Tom, is back again! In today’s episode, we’re talking all about the time we got into a fight right after I posted on social media that working cattle with your spouse does NOT have to end in a fight. At first..I felt like a big ‘ol hypocrite after that one. However, I remembered that this occurrence was not the rule for us - it was the exception. We’re sharing about what actually started this particular fight, how we made the time and effort to talk and work through this disagreement (and why it’s so important to consistently do this), the value in setting not only your cattle up for success, but you and your partner as well. Hopefully sharing our experience in this way will remind you that repairing after a fight is far more important than the actual slip-up itself! In this episode, we cover: What actually started (and led to) this particular fight The importance of taking the time to talk and work through disagreements Why Tom and I still have fights and disagreements sometimes, even after being well-practiced in the Good Movement principle The value in setting not only cattle up for success, but you and your partner too The powerful concept of ‘slow is smooth, smooth is fast’, and how this can vary from person to person Resources & Links: Good Movement 1:1 Coaching Membership Good Movement Trainings Learn more about T’s coaching, group trainings, and self-guided learning Shop FFB Good Movement music by: Aaron Espe Podcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn: Follow on Instagram @terryn.drieling Check out my website Send me an email at [email protected] Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode! Ep 1414. Slow is Smooth Smooth is Fast

Toward the end of 2023, I set three main intentions for what was left of the year - listen to Daily Audio Bible and have quiet time daily, be more present with my husband and kids and less in my head, and open the doors for my 1:1 Good Movement Coaching Membership. However, I ended up adding a fourth intention… unintentionally. This got me thinking about a valuable concept we use in stockmanship, which is ‘slow is smooth, smooth is fast’. In this episode, I talk more about how this phrase applies to both livestock and humans (and how it differs between us), understanding that the hills we have to climb in life don’t necessarily have to be the hardest or most painful, and what slowing down can actually look like in our lives. I’ve personally learned that slowing down doesn’t mean we’re taking the easy way out, or keeping us from where we want to go. Instead, taking the opportunity to truly slow down, gain the knowledge we need, and be more intentional about moving forward can have the greatest benefit. I hope this episode encourages you to slow down and see what YOUR best path ahead is! In this episode, we cover: My decision to start a fourth intention for the end of 2023, and what that’s looked like so far Understanding that we all have hills we have to climb in life, while also knowing there is another way around How the concept of ‘slow is smooth, smooth is fast’ applies to both livestock and humans What slowing down can look like in your life + taking the opportunity to actually do so Why the ‘smooth is fast’ part won’t be as immediately apparent in your interactions and day-to-day life Resources & Links: Good Movement Trainings Good Movement 1:1 Coaching Membership Learn more about T’s coaching, group trainings, and self-guided learning Shop FFB Good Movement music by: Aaron Espe Podcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn: Follow on Instagram @terryn.drieling Check out my website Send me an email at [email protected] Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode! Ep 1212. Choose Curiosity Over Criticism

When it comes to miscommunication and frustration that happens among us as humans, I believe so much of it comes from not having the ‘whole story’ (even though most of the time, we think we do). In today’s episode, I want to talk with you about handling judgment and criticism from others (I have a personal experience of my own to share), why the concept of choosing curiosity over criticism doesn’t only apply to others, and more. I’ve learned that open-ended, honest questions can truly allow you to move forward with knowledge and understanding, which greatly helps when it comes to embarrassment, frustration, and miscommunication - especially in relationships. Not being afraid to ask questions, and in return, gain the knowledge and understanding you need, will no doubt positively impact your relationships. I hope this episode encourages you to choose curiosity over criticism when it comes to yourself, and those in the world around you! In this episode, we cover: My own, personal experience dealing with judgment and criticism from others The power of asking honest questions Why the concept of curiosity over criticism can apply to yourself too Resources & Links: Ted Lasso Darts Scene (language warning) Good Movement Trainings Good Movement 1:1 Coaching Membership Learn more about T’s coaching, group trainings, and self-guided learning Shop FFB Good Movement music by: Aaron Espe Podcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn: Follow on Instagram @terryn.drieling Check out my website Send me an email at [email protected] Find the complete show notes here: https://www.faithfamilyandbeef.com/choose-curiosity-over-criticism-episode-12

We’re talking about Tom’s initial thoughts on the Enneagram and how that’s changed over time, the value in knowing YOUR specific type + the other types, digging into self-awareness in order to understand how you impact those around you, the stigma around mental health in agriculture, and more. Ep 77. Grief and What I Know So Far

Today’s episode is going to be a little more of a somber one, but it’s something I feel very strongly about, and it’s important to share with you. I want to talk about grief, because seven months ago today, I was thrust firsthand into learning about it when my dad suddenly passed away. I’ll also be covering more about how our society views grief and closure, what it looks like for joy and grief to co-exist, helpful things you should (and should not) say to someone who is grieving, and more. In this episode, we cover: The incredible 2023 Enneagram Cohort I was a part of, and how it helped me tremendously when I experienced the sudden passing of my dad earlier this year Why our society doesn’t know how to grieve, and why closure is just a myth How joy and grief can co-exist + a helpful concept that shows our growth when it comes to grief Things you should NOT say to someone who is grieving Helpful things you CAN say to someone who is grieving + phrases that should be used with caution Kind and helpful things you can DO for people in grief situations Resources & Links: Facebook post regarding grief Learn more about T’s coaching, group trainings, and self-guided learning Shop FFB Good Movement music by: Aaron Espe Podcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn: Follow on Instagram @terryn.drieling Check out my website Send me an email at [email protected] Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode! Ep 55. Fostering Joy in the Everyday

Today’s episode is going to be all about gratitude, because it’s Thanksgiving week in the United States! While it’s amazing to practice gratitude during the month of November, I believe it’s something that is important to do year-round. I’m excited to talk about the two main types of ‘fuel’ the brain runs on (it’s truly fascinating to me how God designed our human brains), what it can look like to have a gratitude practice and joy journal, simple steps for increasing joy in your everyday life, and more. I recently learned that joy is a supra emotion (meaning it connects with other emotions at the same time) - it’s not just synonymous with happiness like I used to think. Joy is contagious, it’s VERY much needed, and it draws good movement. This is a short and sweet episode, but I hope it’s valuable for you as you focus on fostering joy during your holiday gatherings, and throughout your entire year! Ep 44. How I Got Here – the Evolution of Good Movement

Today’s episode is going to be more of a story-centered one for you, and it’s definitely a good one! I’m excited to share more about how I got to where I am today - essentially, the evolution of Good Movement. I’m talking more about my upbringing in agriculture’s impact on me, what it looked like for me to step away from the career I knew and was comfortable with, why I decided to finally share more about the principles of Good Movement with others, and all of the life that happened in between. I feel like I’ve always been living the dream (and I don’t mean that sarcastically), but my dreams have changed and evolved as I’ve gone through different seasons in life. I’ve experienced a LOT over the last few years, but ultimately, I know my dream is to help humans truly understand and communicate with their fellow humans. It’s been fun to see all of the pieces of the puzzle come together, and I’m excited for what’s ahead too! In this episode, we cover: My story of growing up in agriculture, and its pivotal part in not only my life, but my family’s as well An important lesson learned about low stress cattle handling and stockmanship I was able to implement in my career and life The unexpected opportunity for me to step away from the feedyard and become a stay at home mom and ranch hand The start of my blog, Faith, Family, and Beef + my decision to start sharing more about the principles of Good Movement My introduction to the Enneagram and how I began to notice that it could be a powerful catalyst for Good Movement Finally feeling like I was ‘in my element’ as I stepped into sharing, coaching, and even leading trainings about Good Movement Taking a hiatus after experiencing a major loss in my life, to eventually finding my way back and drawing good movement again Resources & Links: Bud Williams The Road Back to You Learn more about T’s coaching, group trainings, and self-guided learning Shop FFB Good Movement music by: Aaron Espe Podcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn: Follow on Instagram @terryn.drieling Check out my website Send me an email at [email protected] Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode! Ep 22. It Starts with Self-Awareness

I’ve been sharing about good movement on social media for a while now and one of the most common questions I get is: “How do I learn good movement?” It’s a good question and it's also a hard question to answer because there isn’t a step-by-step guide to good movement. In today’s episode, I’m going to share one of the pieces to learning good movement and that is self-awareness. In this episode, we cover: Self-awareness needs to come first because it directly affects how others react to us Learning yourself, your tendencies, and being aware of how those impact those around you How it can feel easier and harmless to live blissfully unaware, but ultimately is hurting ourselves and those closest to us Tools to expedite self-awareness such as observation and the Enneagram Resources & Links: Learn more about T’s coaching, group trainings, and self-guided learning Shop FFB Good Movement music by: Aaron Espe Podcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn: Follow on Instagram @terryn.drieling Check out my website Send me an email at [email protected] Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode! Ep 11. What Is Good Movement?

Welcome to the first episode of Good Movement Draws Good Movement! I’m so excited to have this podcast out into the world and to have you listening in today. Thank you for being here! Today I’m sharing what exactly good movement means and my story of taking this concept from not just cattle, but applying it to human interactions as well. What if we could all move forward in good movement? Reduce meaningless stress, improve our health, and effectively and effortlessly communicate with others. The principle is simple, but not easy. You can’t force good movement. So that’s what this podcast is for; to learn how we can all draw good movement in our relationships, interactions, and lives and make the world a better place. In this episode, we cover: Explanation of the concept of “good movement” in stockmanship The application of good movement in human relationships and communication The importance of understanding behavior and effective communication to foster positive interactions with others How kindness and constructive conversation makes MORE kindness and constructive conversation happen The goal of growing relationally through awareness, understanding, and handling conflict in a positive way Resources & Links: Learn more about T’s coaching, group trainings, and self-guided learning Shop FFB Good Movement music by: Aaron Espe Podcast produced by: Jill Carr Podcasting Connect with Terryn: Follow on Instagram @terryn.drieling Check out my website Send me an email at [email protected] Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode! Welcome to Good Movement Draws Good Movement!

trailer

In stockmanship (the art and science of handling cattle in a safe, effective, low-stress manner), we have this phrase . . . good movement draws good movement. It’s this thing that happens when we ask a small group of cattle, maybe a cow, or a pair to move out in a certain direction and their movement draws the whole herd into moving in the same direction. Good movement happens when we approach the cattle with a positive attitude, read and really listen to what they’re telling us, and communicate accordingly. We don’t approach the aware, flighty cattle the same as we do the tame, docile cattle. We adjust ourselves, our energy, and approach, and communicate with each differently. These adjustments help us effectively draw good movement from each, which then draws good movement from the herd. But it starts with us. The same is true for humans. Good movement starts with us. Welcome to Good Movement Draws Good Movement, the podcast where farmers, ranchers, and rural folks can grow relationally through awareness, understanding, and effective communication. Hey, it’s me - T. I’m your host, and I, along with my guests, will be covering topics related to drawing good movement - things like self and social awareness, brain science, positive psychology, extending grace, and so much more. We’ll share tools that can help you understand why you are the way you are, why others are the way they are, and how you can use that to step out of self-told lies with grace and compassion to draw good movement in conversations, relationships, and life in rural America. Tune in every Tuesday and make sure to hit subscribe so you never miss an episode! Let’s go draw good movement!
