Good Morning Greendale: A Community Podcast

The study group's yam gets murdered and now it's up to them to do Community Law & Order: Yam Victims Unit. That's... pretty much all I have for the description because it's basically a one-to-one reproduction of a Law & Order episode but about yams. Other talking points are: The Lasagna Council (www.lasagnacouncil.com). Eat some lasagna today! Become one with the lasagna. Ben forgets the name of the guy. Mike does a very brave google search.

We're taking a break for the end of the year! It's another episode of Good Morning Greendale Nights. We answer a few emails and talk about scars. Ben gains a supervillain. Mike demands a mural.

Things get meta meta as Abed and Annie take a spin in the Dreamatorium. Abed simulates everybody. Annie simulates Abed. The manager at Señor Kevin's simulates a guy who absolutely does not get the point of Die Hard. Oh and Troy and Britta go on a lunch date. At Señor Kevin's, where there is a manager who absolutely does not get the point of Die Hard. Additional talking points include Die Hard and how Die Hard is a great movie that makes perfect sense no matter how many FBI agents there are named Johnson. I bet that the manager at Señor Kevin's doesn't realize that Johnson is the second most common last name in the United States, so statistically it is not out of the question that two unrelated FBI agents would be named Johnson and partnered up. If you have to nitpick a movie to the point where you are picking apart the choice of identical surnames of FBI agents, maybe you just have a vendetta against the movie. Who hurt you, manager from Señor Kevin's? Why can't you just enjoy a fun action movie about a New York cop who takes down a gang of international terrorists? Are you the type of person who only feels that a movie can be good if it is an arthouse indie movie or pure Oscar bait? Because I've got news for you; you should lighten up and just enjoy a movie full of explosions and one of the greatest badasses of modern film. And you know what? If you don't like Die Hard that's fine, but maybe let the rest of us just enjoy things for a change instead of yelling at me while I'm waiting for my damn chimichanga. Ben wears a podcaster t-shirt. Mike explains Inception.

Britta reveals that she has an ex named Blade who works for a traveling carnival. Troy and Abed watch the movie Blade. Dean Pelton tries to get Troy to join the AC Repair School. Blade is said 400,000 times (plus or minus 399,970). Pierce gets a new best friend. We also talk probably too much about Back to the Future because Ben can't shut up about it. We also talk about how texting used to cost 10 cents per text message, and the various fictitious characters we would like to marry. Ben doesn't give vampires a square inch of leeway. Mike gets deep into mustard lore.

This is it boys, this is war. A pillow and blanket war. Complete with narration by Keith David. Can Troy and Abed solve their difference through (pillow) violence? Can Jeff put off homework for as long as possible? Find out in this episode! Meanwhile we're back to playing the role of mad men, Don Draper style. I feel like we've done this bit before but this time it gets sexual with tomatoes. Sorry...? Ben is out of this episode unless he gets to be the pillow man. Mike likes this post.

There's a new student in town, and that student is also the Subway sandwich corporation. It is, surprisingly, legal. And naturally, Britta falls in love with Subway. (We also kind of go on a whole thing about Subway in this one.) Troy and Abed try to build blanket and pillow forts, respectively. Jeff does some things I guess. It's fine. We mostly talk about fast food and the Twitter accounts of fast food places on this one. Somehow, it is a good episode regardless. Ben orders a sandwich incorrectly. Mike misunderstands a boner joke.

Abed goes deep into debt hiring celebrity lookalikes and the study group gets recruited into being lookalikes to pay off the debt. That's pretty much the plot of this episode. Seriously, that's about it. But everybody looks like other people so it's a pretty interesting episode. As for us, we're taking off body parts and pitching movies, two of our favorite activities. We also figure out who we are lookalikes for and the results will shock you. Unless you looked at our Twitter account last week. Then you know. Ben becomes a sports detective. Mike adopts 40 parrots.

Shirley and Andre decide to tie the knot. Troy and Abed decide to be normal. Jeff and Britta... well... that's a whole thing. Also there's a lot about business and sandwiches and Annie's Boobs shows up at the end there and honestly there is just a lot going on in this episode. Talking points for this episode are introductions to toasts, global variables in programming, The 40 Year Old Virgin for some reason, exes, Ronald Reagan, and your dad's podcast. (He has one, right?) Ben defies all programming conventions. Mike subscribes to your dad's podcast.

Cats are why we can't have nice things, including regularly scheduled episodes. In this "lost" episode we talk about video games, being greasy, vinyl versions of podcasts, and air travel. Ben is at 38,000 feet. Mike puts the podcast on vinyl.

We're back and we're talking Christmas and regionals! The study group gets recruited to glee one by one, and everybody has a good time, until they don't. That's all I really have to say about this episode, because the episode is 50% music by weight. Ben gets replaced by a cat. Mike does some investigative sandwich journalism.

Jeff and Shirley get mixed up in the devil's game known as foosball. Annie gets caught up in lying to Abed. For once, Britta and Pierce are barely in this one... what are they up to? Meanwhile we go down the area code rabbit hole, talk about some unbelievable moments, and really trim down the list of acceptable guests for this podcast. Ben wants the sex question. Mike misses the forest for the trees.

Annie is moving! (#anniesmove) Everybody gets into various adventures while helping her move, with the exception of Jeff who gets into various adventures with Craigular Joe Craig a the mall, and it's definitely not blackmail. We all get beautifully serenaded to a classic song about eyes becoming large. Meanwhile we're trying to set world records, but not really that hard. We're also getting pedantic about being pedantic. We, too, sing Kiss From a Rose. Ben returns home. Mike disperses homeowner advice.

Pierce is finally okay with gay people due to a 7% increase in sales of Hawthorne Wipes, but his dad shows up to run the festivities. Troy is courted by the Air Conditioning Repair School. Britta excuses some racism, but not animal cruelty. Jeff has father issues, as always. Meanwhile we're talking about high school crushes, the terror of conversing with them, the StumbleUpon button, and a whole lot more. Ben clicks the StumbleUpon button. It's the spookiest time of the year! August! But in Community it is October and time for Halloween. Britta throws a pre-party under false pretenses. Everybody tells scary stories. Warren Piece is invoked. Meanwhile we're talking about fighting games and a dollar store CD. Ben becomes a marriage officiant. Mike gets replaced by a famous mouse.

Here it is, legendary Community episode "Remedial Chaos Theory." We're talking about seven different timelines and it is a lot to take in. What free will do we have? What chaos plays into our lives? What is the Darkest Timeline? Find out all this and more. Meanwhile, we mostly talk about how great pie is and I refuse to apologize for this. Pie is great. Ben sells out for not soggy or tepid french fries. Mike creates 27 different timelines.

An interloper is afoot! And it's Todd, literally the worst human scum to ever scummily walk across the earth with his scumminess. No offense, of course. But he does come with a turtle. The group has to figure out how to deal with this 8th wheel to get their Biology homework done. While this is going on we follow the journey of Ben Chang: Detective. He has some hunches and those hunches are like a hungry man at a hot dog festival: eyebrow raising. Meanwhile, we talk about some of our favorite jingles and our favorite detectives. Ben gets eaten by mushrooms. Mike goes home with a mannequin leg.

Annie gets jealous over other Annie and how she is smart and cool and good and into model UN. Britta gets upset over not being enough of a rebel activist. Chang has a power trip. Meanwhile we talk about our legacy and what we want named after us and whether or not Professor Cligoris would be fun to play D&D with. Ben writes a heist movie. Mike studies up on model UN history.

We're back! In podcasting form! Webster's dictionary defines podcast as... this. The gang signs up for a Biology class, but trouble arises when Jeff gets kicked out. Abed panics after Cougartown gets moved to mid-season. Annie sticks up for herself. Monkey gas gets released. Meanwhile, we attempt to remember how to do this. Ben multiclasses in Baby Name Wizard. Mike eats the bean.

We wrap up season 2 by answering a few questions from fans! Ben does a Breaking Bad pastiche. Mike does it better than Scrubs did.

It's the second part to the second paintball match in the second season of Community. The stakes are high as the school lays in ruins and City College's evil plans come to fruition. Also, everything is Star Wars now. Kinda. Buckle up for more paintball fun. As for us, we're talking about the various animals that have bitten us (thanks POD DECKS). We've been failed yet again. Ben is a total dweeb. Mike is watching the last five minutes of a movie on TNT before wrestling comes on.

It's Paintball Assassin all over again but this time with a distinctly western feel. What else can I say? It's classic Community episode, I don't need to explain it. Meanwhile, we are... surprisingly on track for most of this one. But we do invent a new spinoff show about Young Pierce Hawthorne, talk about Arrested Development and The Matrix, and have a good time. Ben puts on his 3D glasses. Mike gets an acting job.

Instead of an Anthropology final, the gang gets the biggest test of humanity of all; delivering Shirley's baby. Chang thinks it is his. Meanwhile there is a race kerfuffle and an illicit deal for handshakes. Meanwhile we talk about... licking batteries and sexual harassment music. I don't know what else to tell you about that. You'll just have to listen. Ben gets some job training. Mike recasts Spider-Man in the future.

The gang remembers a whole lot of good times and bad times and worst times and terrible times and fights and fights about fights and fights about fights about fights. We finally find out what happened to Annie's pen and that Jeff and Britta have been having secret sex. Meanwhile we find cursed images from Scooby-Doo and talk about our nicknames. Ben watches Superbowl 48. Mike copies things Ben hates verbatim.

Pierce gets engaged! And it's only mostly a sham! Troy and Britta take an acting class together but the acting class is more of a class on yelling about pain. Abed takes a class on who the boss is in "Who's the Boss?" Meanwhile we are talking about Inside Out Boy and getting that sweet vaccine (those two things are not related). We ask about what a line is and wait in line for video games. We also finally land the TRIPLE PUN. You gotta listen to this one. Ben joins the mile high club on a technicality. Mike invents a new game.

It's Abed's birthday and he wants a real conversation with Jeff, but he wants to get Abed out of here to the surprise Pulp Fiction party. Pierce is dressed up as the gimp. And it turns out that Abed was My Dinner With Andre-ing Jeff. It's all complicated. Meanwhile, we join a club! And all you have to do to join the club is to have fallen asleep during the movie Fight Club. We talk about school lockers, Facebook fan pages, Pulp Fiction... we uh... guess what My Dinner with Andre is like. Ben presses the "Tell Me More" button. Mike plays quarterback at the big game.

Shirley tries to ensure that Chang gets no parental rights to her child, but Jeff's selfishness gets in the way. Britta makes out with Troy and Abed's new war criminal friend and tries to get rid of him, but Troy and Abed are not having any of it. Pierce is racist. Meanwhile, we're talking about scary night sounds, Nickelodeon's "Doug," dad LARPing, and video games. Ben eats a fork. Mike burns a village.

Welcome to the incredibly short election season at Greendale! Annie runs for president. Jeff runs for president. Abed has some romance. Pierce is out for revenge. Meanwhile the two of us are talking about the really cool (ridiculous) things we did when were 19. Ben duct tapes his shoes. Mike shows up under-dressed.

You know what they say about a pill addiction like... six episodes ago? Pierce has to end up ODing and spending time in the hospital in this episode. He then proceeds to torture everybody. LeVar Burton shows up. We talk about Colorado ghost towns, our love of Donald Glover's performance, whether the PS5 or the XBox is cooler and which ones are owned by people who are cool and have sex. Ben doesn't know how to talk to celebrities. Mike googles for condos in Colorado.

Troy and Abed concoct a scheme for romance with a hot librarian. Britta concocts a scheme where she is friends with a lesbian for no reason. Troy sees Andy Dick again (warning: do not listen to Andy Dick). Jeff and Chang have a whole thing. Shirley... disappears. Also Magnitude is back. That's all you really need to know this episode. Ben pops pops. Mike pop pops.

We are talking about controversial episode Advanced Dungeons & Dragons! Which means mostly we talk about D&D. But also, yes, we do talk about the controversy, even though we're not the ones you should be listening to about this one friends. Ben does his best to facilitate fun. Mike questions Dungeon Master neutrality.

Today we're talking about drugs. Should you do them? Probably not. Unless you're a cat (but more on that later). Annie thinks you shouldn't so much that she puts on a play for at risk youth. She also needs money because there's not much money in recycling cans. Pierce decides to be the hero of both the play and Annie's finances and it is a CONFLICT OF INTERESTS. Also, Britta's nephew has the hots for her and we don't love it. Meanwhile, we're talking about aluminum recycling, body wax, green crayons tripping balls, and baseball puns. Ben trades in some aluminum cans. Mike goes to the good Wendy's.

Annie has a crush and Jeff doesn't like it. Shirley has a new old beau and Britta doesn't like it. Pierce falls in love with kettle corn, and who can blame him? It's a fun time snack! Meanwhile we spend an unfortunate amount of time talking about Emmanuelle In Space, talk about 10 Things I Hate About You (but it mostly gets cut?) We invent some weird hypotheticals. Ben sleeps with a Scooby-Doo character. Mike is the reacher.

It's Christmastime and that means we're doing a whole stop motion animation thing! Or, at least Abed is. And it's up to the rest of the gang to figure out what is going on with him or else he might get kicked out of school. So naturally we take a trip to Planet Abed to find the meaning of Christmas. We also talk about Christmas. And... peanut butter? And stolen street signs. Ben cuts the chatter. Mike doesn't land the 900. It's Troy's birthday and so the gang goes to a bar to celebrate the manliest of manchievements: turning 21. Annie gets a fake ID and a bad accent, and Shirley gets a blast from the past. We talk about good drinks we like drinking and also Paul F. Tompkins. Welcome to the Paul F. Tompkins fancast I guess. Ben goes to the Red Door. Mike goes to L-Street.

We're going to night school (OR ARE WE) to take a class on conspiracy theories (OR ARE WE) and talking about the TV show Community (OR ARE WE). Jeff tries to get a free credit and/or is taking a class all about conspiracies and Annie's making a diorama for the bio dioramarama. Troy and Abed make a blanket fort for men. We go into business with a pizza place / bowling alley / bookstore for some reason and we talk about how cool a math party would almost certainly be. Ben talks to a barista about werewolves. Mike gets a lesson on oatmeal.

It's a bottle episode and everybody us sus. That's hip lingo everybody is using thanks to Among Us. This is Among Us. But about a purple pen. Or a principle. Is it a pen or a principle? Either way, everybody gets mad at each other. We debate whether Cheers is a bottle series and whether Frasier would make a good paladin. And by "we" I mean "Ben." Ben says those things. Ben pulls a c-c-c-c-combo breaker. Mike inquires about Waffle Houses.

Jeff and Troy find a magical trampoline in a magical garden. Abed becomes a RowBoat Cop. The word "bitch" is said an awful lot in this episode both by the characters and us so welcome to our second ever explicit episode because of the B-WORD. Hillary Duff makes a special appearance. We talk about our grade school media crushes, terms for baskteball, and do some impressions of some very famous people. Ben details how to get rid of a trampoline. Mike plays some Rumpy Junny.

It's Halloween, and everybody is at a puffy, sweaty party dressed in costumes and biting each other and infecting each other with a terrible secret black-ops rabies virus. So. Pretty much normal Halloween in my experience. Troy has a crisis of coolness, Abed has a crisis of friendship, Jeff has a crisis of not wanting to ruin a $6,000 suit, and Shirley has a crisis of doin' it with Chang. Meanwhile, we are forced to decide if we will submit to the will of The Bean. Ben makes plans for October 1, 2021. Mike puts chocolate on a hotdog.

Shirley wants to make a film about Jesus. Abed wants to make a film about Jesus finding God through a God camera and every camera is God and every person is Jesus and also the film is called Abed. You got that? It makes perfect sense. Pierce falls in with a bad crowd of old people. Ben has a revelation about Jesus. Mike disses Reboot.

The most important event of the community college simulated space race is on. Can Greendale beat City College into simulated space? Will Annie transfer to City College? Will the dean notice the flag is a butt? Will you inevitably get a craving for KFC after listening to this episode? All we know is that we rank this episode as "delicious." Ben plays a prank. Mike gets a master's degree.

Bad news. Pierce's mom is dead. Or... is alive but with a vaporized organic body. Who can say? Jeff is suddenly worried about his own mortality and takes it out on the group. Britta is suddenly worried about Annie selling out their gender and takes it out on Annie. Abed spends some time in the background. We debate whether it is creepier to have a puppet of somebody for sexual or non-sexual reasons, the downfall of the Indian Jones franchise, the downfall of Adobe Flash player, and asparagus toast. Ben gets interrupted by Flash Player in 2020. Mike continues to be unaware of Frasier.

Jeff's old lawyer buddy shows up and it reawakens a lawyer's instinct in him. None of the rest of the study group like this new development, especially because they need a seventh person for the pop-and-lock-a-thon. Everybody knows you need at least seven people. As for us? Well. I think all we can say about this one is... sorry, Jesus. Ben starts digging for holes. Mike fights a shrimp boat.

We're back and this semester we're taking Anthropology staring Betty Freakin' White. It's a damn good get as far as guest stars go if you ask us. And you did. By listening to this podcast you were like "hey what do Ben and Mike think about Betty White as a guest star in Community?" Spoiler: she is great. Also there's a lot of drama in the group due to all the kissing and love declaring that happened last season. It's a lot. Ben gives a top hat to a goth horse. Mike gambles on Golden Girls knowledge and loses.

We're taking a break so we talk a little bit about a TV show a Community cast member has been on (and then never got picked up) and we also do some listener Q&A! Ben looks it up on Bing. Mike picks Buddy.

In the final episode of the season, events happen that may or may not be relevant to other episodes. Ben goes to comedy school. Mike has questions about "Eight Crazy Nights."

It's finals time and the gang has to really bone up because it turns out Chang doesn't actually have the qualifications to teach. Annie hatches a misguided scheme to keep the gang together. Chang plays a keytar. Troy gets approached by a plumber with a life-changing opportunity. Your intrepid hosts talk about school nightmares, peeing nightmares, the inability to go to early classes, and more! Ben quits forever as of today. Mike just keeps peeing.

It's here! We're talking about Modern Warfare, a famous Community episode because it's about a giant game of paintball on campus. We get a whole lot of great moments from every character and finally some Jeff/Britta payoff. I don't know what else to say; this is a legendary episode. Ben betrays Mike. Mike betrays... himself?

Jeff and Britta lose their minds while fighting with... uh... high school kids. High school kids who call them Schmitty. Nobody looks great in this one. Troy and Abed embark on a quest of college shenanigans and they come out looking pretty okay in this one. Pierce and Shirley get into a fight and... well there's a definite winner there. We are programming weird robots in BASIC and telling stories about how we miss, of all things, cubicles. Ben does not do a marijuana. Mike knows who Winona Ryder is.
