Possibly the ultimate gateway horror movie for kids is The Monster Squad. While parts are certainly a "product of their time" as long as you have the conversation with your kiddos as to why some of the language and actions of the boys are NOT acceptable, this movie brings everything a young fan could want in a friendly digestible manner. Or is it? Those of us who grew up with this film will fiercely defend it as a classic but those just finding it and watching it through adult eyes may not be as keen.
