To begin Black History Month, we speak with poet Rio Cortez, author of THE ABCs of BLACK HISTORY, a book that uses the alphabet a frame to introduce American Black History. Rio Cortez is a writer and Pushcart Prize-nominated poet who has received fellowships from Poet’s House and other foundations. Her work has appeared in the The New Yorker, the Los Angeles Review of Books, Mother and elsewhere.
