E

After two episodes in October and none in November, the North East accents, squabbles and over-the-top jingles return with North East Geek Feast episode 7! STARTER - Daniel and Lily welcome geeksyndicate.co.uk writer, Matt Pease (and a bit of microphone hiss), to the Feast to review The Amazing Spiderman 648 and 649. After 101 issues of ‘Brand New Day’, these issues start the new ‘Big Time’ regime on the Spidey books. But what will these three fans of the Wallcrawler make of the new direction? PALATE CLEANSER - A very different ‘Retail Review’ this episode. Normal service will resume next time. Featuring interviews with the people behind Draw The World Together, Rainbow Orchid, My Cardboard Life and the Orbital Comics shop. Dessert - The premiere edition of ‘Ultimate Crisis of Comics’. With all the comics in the universe being wiped out of existence, Matt Pease is given the opportunity to save 4 single issues to treasure forever - and one issue he would make sure gets destroyed. What will he pick? Geek Syndicate - Human Target Special: Interview with Mark Valley

E

Earlier in the year Dave and I caught up with Mark Valley the star of the hit US show Human Target. Thanks to my computer dying I thought I had lost the interview (we lost dave halfway through the recording as you will hear) but after a whole lot of tinkering and some luck I've manged to recover the interview for your listening pleasure. Be warned this was recorded before season 2 aired so there's not a lot of questions on season 2 although we do get to chat briefly about what Mark believes we can expect from Chance in season two.

Dissecting Scrolls: X-mas X-Over Pt1

E

The wait is over. The time is now.The Teen-Titans of the Geek Syndicate Network have come together in a bumper sized two-part special of podcasty goodness. Celebrating the Christmas holiday in traditional fashion the Troublesome Twosome from Dissecting Worlds and the Questionable Quartet from Scrolls cast off all pretense of being rational people, get drunk and play stupid party games. A little too much is revealed about some, more questions are raised about others and at least one fabulous song is brutally murdered before your horrified ears.Skits, Christmas messages, insults from a famous guest-host and limericks from an actual fan round off the VERY BESTChristmas Crossover special on the GSN that we have ever made, EVER (or your money back).Apologies in advance to the makers of Just A Minute, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Mornington Crescent for the outrages we have committed in Part 1 - I'll let Kehaar do the grovelling for Part 2.Here are some made up quotes from some real people -'All my christmas wishes just came true. I particularly liked Saruman's letter to Santa.' (C. Lee)'Imagine taking something you really like and, and adding something else you really like to it, and mixing them up all together and then WHOP! dollopping them out onto two plates. Well that's like this innit. But in your ears.' (J. Oliver)'It's like, the best idea ever dude.' (K. Reeves)'Laugh? I nearly shat!' (W. Shatner)'It's the worst idea in history.' (S. Schama)

Scrolls Chapter 10: Game Changers

E

Chaos ensues once again as the troublesome team try to uncover the books and authors that had a major role in creating our favourite genres or have since shaken things up, put a new spin on them and generally kept it all fresh. It has been heavily edited, resulting in the sad loss of several interesting conversations about books and authors which were too off-topic or else deserving of far more time and analysis on a seperate podcast. Despite that it's a monster episode and there's loads of silliness which did survive the edit because frankly we'd rather be funny than dull.Miraculously maintaining our sky-high standards (despite the removal of one persons pants and the shaking of another cast-member's member) we plunge back through time to glance at Gilgamesh and rampage right through to 2010 with all the clinically-precise organisation of the average student's sock drawer - and many similarly unsavoury and cheesy elements. The plugathon at the end makes reference to short story The Golden Egg which you can get to by clicking on this link here.Follow the Scrolls news Twitter-feed @Scrollscast That is all.

Indie Asylum - Episode 3 'Difficulty'

E

Once again it’s time to tread the halls of Indie Asylum as we have a damn hard time wrapping our collective craniums around the subject of difficulty. With head scratching and brain punching we break out some games covering all varying levels of difficulty, with some chilled and casual that even Chelle can play to some so hard I wanted to kill puppies with my fists. All that and enough indie love to make the fat cats of Wall Street break free and live like work shy, over emotional, over opinionated hippies. Which funnily enough describes Silent Hitoshura who was kind enough to suggest this theme to us. So before I cut loose and go live in a cage, here’s some awesome games: 1. Cloud – Free + flOw – Free / PSN + Flower – PSN + Journey – In development 2. Canabalt – Free + Robot Unicorn Attack – Free 3. Super Meat Boy – Xbox Live Arcade - 800 Points (Rising to 1200 from November) / Steam (Coming Soon) Mentions: Radiangames Fluid – Xbox Live Indie Games - 80 Points You Will Die – Xbox Live Indie Games - 80 Points Glorg – Free Indie Love: Indiesuperstar.com – For the results of the first annual “Who’s An Indie Gamer” poll. Dissecting Worlds Series 3 Episode - 2 Tremeraire, His Majesty's Dragon & Air Forces

E

This time Master Kehaar and First Mate Grampus set sail for the Napoleonic Wars: the Napoleonic War with Dragons. In the process they admire the writing, society and military technology of the Tremeraire books. While at it they keel hawl the reputation of Napoleon, amputate Marshall Bulcher and pull out the guns on the nature of the HMS Allegiance. Hammers Slammers make a surprise appearance and Kehaar gets all gushy eyed on the heroism of the period, Sharpe and Hornblower mainly stay in reserve but their presence is felt. They also admire the other developments of the time (though manage not to mention the Romantic movement - silly boys.) Jane Austin, Tom Mix and Tom Crabbe even get a mention. So take a tot of rum, sound general quarters, scramble, stand to your guns, mount up or form square depending on your service me lads & lasses - Do you want to see Napoleon in Windsor Castle? NO! GS Network Presents: Scrolls Chapter 9: Book At Bogtime

E

fter a couple of relatively in-depth episodes the gang settle back into their old routine, loosen their belts and have a good old natter about the best books to read on the holiest of holes. Basic practicalities such as portability, absorbency (i.e. attention spans) and the cloth-touching of family trouser-turtles are all mulled over and given the serious consideration they deserve. Meanwhile welcome distractions are provided by a hacking cough, the cheapskate Ambassador of Ferrero Rocher and Blue Peter ladies - both totty and notty. Books and authors discussed include The Green Mile, The Yellow Wallpaper, Robert Bloch, Blood Sword, Leather Goddesses Of Phobos, Charles Dickens, The Lottery, The Running Man, HP Lovecraft and Legends. Strangely no mention is made of Wee Jock Poo-Pong McPlop, for which I apologise. We do however mention a website from which you can get access to a whole bunch of free stories online – here’s the link http://freesf.blogspot.com/ Send your entries for the banner and logo competition flooding in to [email protected] and for the sake of economy you can use the same e-mail address to contact us about joining in with the Scrolls Book Group podcast – open to all. I’m on Twitter now @Dion_Scrolls so I’d love to get any feedback there, on the forums at http://www.gsforums.co.uk via e-mail or on the comments section below. So much choice! Music is as ever by Steadman - except for the jazzy bit at the start which came off of some crappy cd I got free with a cocktail shaker a few years back. I should probably add that we are giggly and explicit from the beginning, but not so distasteful as to be graphic. Well, not that graphic. Wuss. Strap yourselves in, it’s going to be a bum-py ride.

Scrolls Book Group - Episode 1

E

Sometimes a book comes along that you really want to explore and talk to other people about. It's not enough to just read it and recommend it, you want to rave about it or throw your ideas around because its blown your mind - but you don't always have people around you can do this with.Well now you do, because we're inviting you to join us in a fully interactive podcast. Crazy talk? Oh no, my friend. We're looking to put you centre-stage with the Scrolls team to discuss a book of your choosing via the magic of Skype. This pilot episode has been put together to give you a flavour of how the episodes might go and the level of detail we can get into. In it we discuss Shirley Jackson's masterful tale of claustrophobia and lunacy in the confines of a happy family home - We Have Always Lived In The Castle. Neither horror, fantasy or sci-fi it still feels like our kind of book and is an absolutely fascinating read. There are spoilers throughout, so be warned. The missing element is you. If you have a nomination for a genre book that you want to discuss with the Scrolls team, please contact us via e-mail at [email protected] or send me a tweet @Dion_Scrolls. We will pick one out of the hat and make arrangements to record the episode with you at the next available opportunity. Get enough applicants and positive feedback and we may well make this a full time podcast. Until then we'll have it as an occasional Scrolls Special. It's in your hands people.
