S1 Ep 40Evolving Startup Ecosystems
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Christian Nagel, Founder of Venture Lane, business angel and expert on go-to-market strategies, communication and international rollout. In this conversation, they talk about tribal community building, networking, funding, scaling startups mid- and post-COVID-19. They cover startup hubs, what it takes to achieve critical mass, innovating in edge cities, the EU vs. US vs. Asia, learning from failure, angel investing, mentoring and the tech community in Boston. The takeaway is that you cannot get around the human factor in community building. Protecting the positive aspects of tribalism whilst still achieving scale is key to all startup ecosystems, particularly as COVID-19 limits traditional informal meetups. S1 Ep 39The Future of Flux
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Sid Mohasseb, author, investor, professor, and known as the entrepreneur philosopher. In this conversation, they talk about The Future of Flux. Entrepreneurial philosophy. Personalizing your journey. Listening to the Guru near you. Evolve like a caterpillar--again and again. The takeaway is that the deepest motivation behind entrepreneurship is to seek happiness. We can only learn if we are open to them possibility of learning everywhere around us. Anybody or anything could be the source of the final spark that leads to lasting insight. But we have to stay alert and we need to be ready for the reality of change, whether it be rapid or slow. Like the caterpillar, we might evolve significantly if we put in the effort, see and capture our moment. S1 Ep 37The Future of Online Learning
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Furqan Nazeeri, Partner at Extension Engine, the online education platform consulting firm. In this conversation, they talk about what learning is all about, how COVID-19 both (in)validates and facilitates online learning. They discuss online learning platforms, the best approaches at the moment, and where we are headed in the next decade. The takeaway is that online learning as it was practiced for 20 years was invalidated by COVID-19 and we don’t yet have the answer to what it must become. Having said that, the best universities are doing something right. Ep 45Global Innovation Index
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Professor Soumitra Dutta, Cornell University, co-author of Global Innovation Index, published by the World Intellectual Property Foundation. In this conversation, they talk about measuring innovation, the challenges of developing governance at the country level, across the globe, and how to improve innovation input and output. The takeaway is that the future of innovation measurement will continue to evolve with the metrics that become available, but could also deteriorate if we are not careful to maintain statistical data and overview through national and international monitoring. In 2020’s Index, Switzerland comes out in top with China, Vietnam and the United Republic of Tanzania topping their comparable income groups. There are exciting developments in Sub-Saharan Africa as several countries there continue to push forward. S1 Ep 34Behavioral Science in Product Design
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Matt Wallaert, behavioral scientist and author of Start At The End: How To Build Products that Create Change. In this conversation, they talk about how the field of product design has evolved, the value of experimentation, discovery of cutting edge products, who does it well, corporations and startups, and how the future of product design is steeped in science. The takeaway is that behavioral science should be an obligatory part of product design and it cannot be an afterthought. Right now, most companies are overweight on data scientists and underweight on behavioral scientists, even though they are both needed in equal measure for a product to succeed. After listening to the episode, check out Matt's most recent book as well as his social media profile: Start At The End: How To Build Products that Create Change http://bit.ly/MWStartAtTheEnd Matt Wallaert http://www.mattwallaert.com/ Matt Wallaert (@mattwallaert) https://www.linkedin.com/in/mattwallaert/ The show is hosted by Podbean and can be found at Futurized.co. S1 Ep 36The Future of Cultured Meat
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews David Brandes, Managing Director and co-founder of Peace of Meat. In this conversation, they talk about the technology of cell-based, cultured meat, the sustainability benefits of removing animals from food production, consumer trust, regulatory forces, disruption, and the future of food tech. The takeaway is that cultured meat is here to stay, although it’s introduction will take time and will vary depending on tech innovation speed, regulatory attitudes and consumer trust. COVID-19 has brought about a renewed discussion about food safety and worker safety—lab grown meat does not seem as far fetched as it once did. S1 Ep 33One Woman’s Empowerment Quest to help One Million
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Savi Barrowes, host of the Dream Big and Live Free podcast. In this conversation, which I initially had planned as a prep call, we instead dove straight in. We talked about Savi’s path to empowerment, her quest to empower one million women, her project on the future of work for American nurses which brought her to the White House, what she took away from her MBA at MIT Sloan, the meaning of life, whether we need a North Star and how to turn adversity in to personal and professional growth. In doing so, we also talk about what the next decade will bring for women’s empowerment. My takeaway is that even if your life is defined by abrupt shock, such as suicide in the family before you turn 19, domestic abuse, a divorce before you are thirty, and starting out without formal education, you can still prevail. Not only that, you can experience outsized success, and even better, you can inspire others to make changes to transform their lives. What a powerful message to young women and to all of us. S1 Ep 29The Future of Computational Media
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Chris Weaver, Distinguished Professor of Computational Media at Wesleyan University, Director of Smithsonian Videogame Pioneers Initiative and Research Scientist at MIT microphotonics center. Chris was busy this week also because the video game holding company he founded, ZeniMax Media (owner of major franchises such as The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, DOOM, RAGE, Wolfenstein, Prey, Dishonored, The Evil Within, and QUAKE), was acquired by Microsoft, reportedly for $7.5 billion. In this conversation, which was initially planned as a prep call, which gives the episode a bit of a behind-the-scenes characteristic, with prep questions and the whole thing, they instead end up going deep, for 1h 19 minutes. They talk about Chris’s early opportunity to shape the futuristic thinking at ABC, the Television network, his pioneering role as a video game company founder, as well as his new role capturing the important recent history of video games. As you will discover, they are a key to understanding both the 20th and the 21st century. Finally, they talk about how and why to teach our kids about computational media and the great challenge of making the complexity of the scientific system communicate with the binary political system that always look for simple answers. The takeaway is that the complexity of computational media is still poorly understood in society. However, when it is, and it will be, great change can happen. Video games, for example, provide the potential for much more fundamental experiences than most of us think about. The lessons from the tech development, sensory exploration and the metacognition that ensues, are already influencing several generations of software engineers. However, in order for that insight to reach our kids who are now playing these games, turning it into STEM insight, some translation work is needed. S1 Ep 32Future Proof your Business
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews UK futurist Tom Cheesewright, a regular BBC commentator, and author of the new book Future proof your business. In this conversation, we talked about the role of a futurist in a fast-moving world, the tools needed to predict future trends in your industry, how to build in agility, how the pandemic has changed leaders' thinking preparing for future shocks and what the next decade might bring. My takeaway is that the future will not be the same for everyone. It all depends. What steps do you take? What skills do you build? What is your organizational agility? What social group do you belong to? Where do you live? What governance structures are you subject to? In terms of growth, Tom Cheesewright talks about the importance of the three C-s, curation, creation and communication, each of which he sees as so complex and multifaceted that you can only ever be an expert on aspects of it in one lifetime, so you may be great on stage but still a poor listener, or poor with digital design tools, for example. After listening to the episode, check out Tom Cheesewright's online profile and his new book: Tom Cheesewright (@bookofthefuture) https://www.linkedin.com/in/tomcheesewright/ Tom Cheesewright webpage https://tomcheesewright.com/ Future Proof Your Business (Penguin Business, 2020) https://tomcheesewright.com/future-proof-your-business/ The show is hosted by Podbean and can be found at Futurized.co. S1 Ep 31The Future of Commoditized Robotics
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Tom Ryden, Executive Director of MassRobotics, the biggest co-working space and robotics community in the US. In this conversation, they talk about what's happened over the past decade, where is the robotics field now (from R&D, to standardization, to big company implementation, the role of robots in contemporary factories, and consumer applications). They discuss the changing form factors, the pivotal role of AI and IoT towards a "Cambrian explosion" in robotics. What are the hottest startups? Where are we going in the next decade? The takeaway is that the future of commoditized robotics just took a major leap forward with COVID-19, as pilots became huge deployments and the automation of manufacturing suddenly became a survival strategy not a future proofing strategy. Next, we might see an uptick in collaborative robots, so-called co-bots. After listening to the episode, check out MassRobotics, and Tom Ryden's online presence: MassRobotics (@MassRobotics) https://www.massrobotics.org/ Tom Ryden (@TRVgo) www.linkedin.com/in/tomryden The show is hosted by Podbean and can be found at Futurized.co. S1 Ep 30The Future of Work
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Ian Barkin, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer of Sykes and host of the OneTake podcast. In this conversation, they talk about The Future of Work, Robotic Process Automation (RPA), automated outsourcing, experience-focused call centers, COVID-19, smart tech,Impact sourcing, creative use of talent, scaling and selling a venture, building your personal brand, his OneTake podcast and the future of marketing. The takeaway is that the future of work is happening in surprising ways, with twists and turns and that there are impressive digital elements that enhance automation but also real human factors that counteract and temper those developments. S1 Ep 30The Quest for Artificial General Intelligence
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Peter Voss, CEO and founder of Aigo.ai. They talk about how the field of artificial general intelligence has evolved, what intelligence really is, whether machines have it and what it takes to bring true progress in this field. They also delve into chat bots. The takeaway is that artificial general intelligence has an interesting future but it is not immediate. Whether an entire generation of software developers are on the wrong path, is uncertain, but clearly, deeply understanding language and especially understanding context has a long ways to go for existing machines. Maybe just as well, because humans are not even adjusting to statistical AI’s predictive capabilities. After listening, check out Aigo.ai as well as Peter Voss's online profile: Aigo (@Aigo_ai) https://www.aigo.ai/ Peter Voss LinkedIn (vosspeter) https://www.linkedin.com/in/vosspeter/ Peter Voss Twitter (petervoss) https://twitter.com/peterevoss Peter Voss Medium (@petervoss) https://medium.com/@petervoss/my-ai-articles-f154c5adfd37 Additional context about the show, the topics, and our guests, including show notes and a full list of podcast players that syndicate the show can be found at https://trondundheim.com/podcast/. S1 Ep 38Disaster Risk Management
Special guest Chloe Demrovsky, CEO of Disaster Recovery Institute is interviewed by futurist Trond Arne Undheim, host of Futurized. In this conversation, which is a precursor to an upcoming deep dive into risk and resilience in the next decade, they talk about what risk management is all about, how executives can handle disasters, and map out some of the needed vocabulary to start understanding risk in a systemic way. The takeaway is that in order to fully prepare for the next decade, there is really no way around developing a systematic take on risk and resilience. There is so much to know but a first step is to be aware of the organizations and frameworks that exist to help executives map their risk and start developing approaches that might work no matter what happens to their organizational assets in a crisis. After listening to the episode, check out Disaster Recovery Institute and Chloe Demrovsky's online profile: Disaster Recovery Institute https://drii.org/ Chloe Demrovsky chloe-demrovsky (LinkedIn) and @ChloeDemrovsky (Twitter) The show is hosted by Podbean and can be found at Futurized.co. S1 Ep 26How To Write a Book on the Future of Healthcare
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Scott E. Burgess, Founder of Healthcare360 Media Group and host of the Healthcare360 podcast. We talked about the importance of having a deep conviction before you write a book, how you go about creating a piece of true thought leadership, and, more specifically, what’s wrong with healthcare today. In the process, Scott starts sketching the solution he envisions, rebuilding healthcare from scratch and where YOU need to become your own best healthcare advisor. My takeaway is that there is no substitute for integrity. I more deeply understand the rogue thinking required to turn healthcare around and I would look to Scott to provide a key perspective in the coming year. The system of the future will be, or rather needs to be, built around the individual, not the insurance or even the medical providers. What that means goes far beyond the current industry buzzword of value based care. As for how to write books, I summarized it into four key decisions surrounding: flow, brand, Quality, and speed. I believe if you know your approach to these four issues, everything else follows. S1 Ep 25The Future of Enterprise Blockchain
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Toby Lewis, CEO and founder of Novum Insights, the frontier tech monitoring company. They talk about the financial services industry in London right now, the influx of fintech and specifically about enterprise blockchain and its impact on corporations and on the investment banks that serve them. The takeaway is that the financial industry which has been slow to evolve has now finally taken on board the impact and potential of blockchain as the emerging platform for the future of finance and perhaps a major platform for business as such. Having said that, it will still take this decade to get all the findings and move beyond experimentation for it to reach its full potential. S1 Ep 24The Future of the Second Half of Life
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Tom Moebus, Founder of TenXGrow, whose mission is to help small companies grow in dramatic ways. We talk about our mutual background at MIT’s Industrial Liaison Program, why Tom has comes out of retirement for COVID-19, which, echoing Buddhist thinking is a “noble moment”. He tells us how he helps Main Street businesses pivot and learn to operate under new conditions, and learn from each other. We discuss his project to connect young people in America and China to create wise people who will learn to collaborate before their minds are colored with what society tries to feed them. Finally, we learn how the protest generation of the 60s might be rising again and what they are concerned with now. The takeaway is that the second half of life is becoming a more and more central part of people’s lives. We are healthier longer and have energy to give. The activism of the 60+ generation is different because they are more mature, more balanced, and, perhaps at times, wiser. Some of this activity stems from Men’s groups, where all kinds of experiences are discussed and where people are mobilized to act. They ask: what is the end contribution I want to have made to the world? I’m reminded that this is a question we can ask at any age. S1 Ep 23The Future of Inclusion and Diversity in Business
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews special guests Alison Maitland and Rebekah Steele, authors of INdivisible: Radically rethinking inclusion for sustainable business results. We talk about why both inclusion and diversity, separately and together matter to the bottom line. We discuss the sensitive aspects of white male earned privilege and how many of us experience a combination of privileges and disadvantages that can link us all on a common journey. We discuss why they are soaring now compared to a decade ago, what approaches deliver results that matter, what the metrics are and where we go from here. The takeaway is that unless diversity is understood widely—as a competitive asset—those organizations that are lucky enough to have it are likely not monetizing it. As for inclusion, it’s important far beyond the fairness aspect, it turns out all of us have aspects that may lead us to be excluded from something unless society explicitly mandates being inclusive. Again, the benefits are tangible and important. As for where we go from here: it is both an individual and a collective responsibility, but the issues are squarely on the agenda, now we just need smart ways to make progress. S1 Ep 36How 5G+AR might revolutionize communication
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews David A. Smith, CEO and founder of Croquet, the augmented reality collaborative operations system. In this conversation, they talk about how augmented reality builds on insights that were present among the precursors of the internet, such as Douglas Engelbart and Alan Kay. They explore whether and how AR can evolve into a communication platform that is in some ways more real than co-presence, or at least can support simultaneous digital collaboration in a way we have never seen before. How long might this take? What will the form factor be? Will computers as we know them become outdated within the next decade? The takeaway is that AR has the potential to shift digital communication into a radically novel, transformative collaboration environment where simulation, multi-sensory stimulation and symbiosis between humans and computers can unlock innovative potential and provide the backbone of a platform that can help humanity confront its greatest challenges, such as climate change, pandemics, and other threats to our way of life, and ultimately to our existence. With the pandemic, we now have an incentive to build this out a decade earlier than it it would otherwise have happened. To ensure that AR does not become a “walled garden” but can benefit all consumers and all enterprises, we need open architectures to flourish. Ep 22The Future of Engineering Education
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interiews Babi Mitra, founding Executive Director of the New Engineering Education Transformation (NEET) initiative at MIT. They talk about the urgent need to update the way we educate our engineers which is an effort happening at engineering schools worldwide, including at the top schools. The stakes on re-imagining education just got higher because of COVID-19. Is there really a need to rebuild engineering education from scratch? Which schools are at the forefront of the experimentation? What will education look like in the next decade? At MIT, the theme is still machines, but the emphasis is on building new types, advanced materials machines, living machines, renewable energy machines, and more. My takeaway is that by re-imagining education, we correct for the highly theoretical way that engineering was taught over the past three decades. The thought was that there needed to be scientific rigor but the result was that the education ceased to be enjoyable. Now, the realization is that exploration, discovery, and this somewhat nebulous idea of meta-cognition can all be fostered by a set of tweaks that put the students in charge of their own learning and liberate them to build things from the get-go, bring it back to real life challenges. When you add spades of positive reinforcement and blend in thoughtful, project based learning and external speakers that fit the educational context, you can inspire students even more than their professors can do alone. S1 Ep 21What's next in Energy Storage?
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Joe Adiletta, Senior Director at Ionic Materials, the battery storage spun out of Tufts University. After listening, check out Ionic Materials and Joe Adiletta's online profile: Ionic Materials https://ionicmaterials.com/ Joe Adiletta LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/joe-adiletta-992257/ They talk about the technologies behind energy storage. We discuss promising startups in the EV, grid and emerging electric aviation space. Where is the field going? Will there be a "Cambrian moment" where growth will accelerate? Is that in this decade or the next? We also discuss the emerging market opportunity in India. The takeaway is that battery storage has ever changing underlying technologies, form factors, and use cases, depending on the capacity and vision of those innovating in the field. Unique to the field is its dependency on large infrastructure players whether it be in the automotive industry or among energy utilities. S1 Ep 28The Future of Child Trafficking
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Vassilia Orfanou, founder of Luxembourg Diplomacy and Communications Institute, Ludci.eu, the media diplomacy agency. We talked about child trafficking, the first problem Ludci.eu will devote its attention to. Child trafficking is a global crisis where the fragmentation of actors hampers media’s ability to cover the stories and make progress in the field. Emerging technology is a double edged sword which enables crime syndicates but it also represents opportunities for monitoring and tracking and agenda setting. The takeaway is that there is no need for additional organizations working on the content surrounding child trafficking. Rather, the problem is to coordinate and make current activity more visible and efficient. Putting all the information in one place and joining up the actors who work in the field in one communication effort seems to be a viable path. Child trafficking is a horrendous issue, but seems to be such a profitable endeavor currently with so attractive economics for those who pursue it that it needs to be pursued from a variety of angles, from law enforcement to legislative proposals to awareness initiative. Big brands have a big responsibility in this effort and sharing best practices could be fruitful. The next decade could be pivotal and we just might be able to turn the tide. After listening, check out Ludci.eu as well as Vassilia Orfanou's online profile: Ludci Magazine (Call for Proposals) https://www.ludci.eu/magazine/ Luxembourg Diplomacy and Communications Institute (Ludci.eu) https://www.ludci.eu/ (site coming soon) Vassilia Orfanou (LinkedIn) https://www.linkedin.com/in/vassilia/ Vassilia Orfanou (@orfanouvassilia) https://twitter.com/orfanouvassilia Additional context about the show, the topics, and our guests, including show notes (typically published six days after the show) and a full list of podcast players that syndicate the show can be found at https://trondundheim.com/podcast/. S1 Ep 20The Future of Engines
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Alec Shkolnik, President and co-founder of Liquid Piston, an MIT spinout. We talk about engines and how they can power robots, vehicles and drones. Our guest has made the bold choice of making a new engine, which hasn’t been attempted since 1954, instead of just capitalizing on his gold plated education in AI, robotics and neuroscience in the most obvious way. The takeaway is that even though engines powered by anything but electricity seem a bit outdated in today’s environment, the future is a hybrid scenario with a mix of engines with different capabilities contributing to optimizing our desired mobility. By giving the rotary engine an overhaul, Liquid Piston might take us even faster into a future where a myriad of machines let us venture farther, faster and with more flexibility than today’s technologies allow. What an exciting prospect that, in this age of big conglomerates in the automotive sector, a father/son business might one day power the vehicles you see all around you. S1 Ep 19Digital Health in Future Pandemics
In this episode, futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Greg Licholai, Chief Medical Officer, PRA Health Sciences, Faculty at Yale School of Management, and healthcare innovation columnist for Forbes. We talk about where digital health as a field is right now and where it’s moving, promising startups, vaccine innovation, improving clinical trials and staying ahead by tracking insight in the field. After listening, check out PRA Health Sciences as well as Greg Licholai's online profile: PRA Health Sciences https://prahs.com/ Greg Licholai LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/greg-licholai-99124a5/ Greg Licholai Twitter (@glicholai) https://twitter.com/glicholai The takeaway is that digital health has come quite far, but that its breakaway promises have only just begun to manifest themselves. This year, investment in the field has spiked, even before COVID-19, which indicates we will move at a rapid pace in the next few years. One exciting field is prescription digital therapeutics. However, big challenges remain. Progress in healthcare doesn’t come easy, even with digital tools at our disposal. We are dealing with legacy infrastructures, mindsets, government regulation and intractable problems coming from left field, such as pandemics and the complexities inherent in any public health intervention. S1 Ep 28The Future of K-12 Education
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Jeff Wetzler, co-founder at Transcend Education, a nonprofit leading the way in holistic school design. They talk about learning science, the necessary leaps to make towards 21st century learning, as well as the impact of COVID-19 and coping strategies such as learning pods. They discuss how to stay up to date on the top trends in K-12 education. The takeaway is that K-12 education has never been more crucial. What happens over the next six months will determine whether public school transforms to become a key positive determinant of kids’ destinies or whether it will descend further into an already outdated paradigm which is neither capable of preparing kids for the future nor able to function as a place for socialization into a role in today’s society. The factors that come into play could be influenced by EdTech but need to be guided by the right learning principles, and have to happen in dialogue with local community needs. After listening, check out Transcend Education as well as Jeff Wetzler's online profile: Transcend Education https://www.transcendeducation.org/ Jeff Wetzler LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeff-wetzler-9ba3824/ Jeff Wetzler (@jeffreywetzler) https://twitter.com/jeffreywetzler The sponsor of this episode is Yegii, the insight network, which creates on-demand teams carrying out consulting projects across industries such as financial services, education, industrial operations, software, energy, healthcare and life science, resulting in slide decks and interactive presentations. Ep 18The Future of Industrial Operations
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Natan Linder, CEO and co-founder of Tulip Interfaces, the manufacturing technology platform spun out of MIT Media Lab. They talk about fusing hardware, software and design to create new product experiences, touching on additive manufacturing, augmented reality and the manufacturing industry’s image problem. After listening, check out Tulip Interfaces and Formlabs as well as Natan Linder's online profile: Tulip Interfaces (Twitter, @tulipinterfaces) https://tulip.co/ Formlabs https://formlabs.com/ Natan Linder LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/linder/ The takeaway is that manufacturing is about to change in ways that will make it unrecognizable from just a decade ago. In the process, it will become sexy again. Robots will do many tasks but humans will, in turn take on other, even more fulfilling tasks. The key is to make technology seamless and unobtrusive, which is not easy. S1 Ep 17Pandemic Aftermath: Introduction
In this episode, the topic is Pandemic Aftermath: How Coronavirus Changes Global Society. Trond Undheim reads from the introduction to his eponymous book which was published by Atmosphere Press in June, 2020. The first portion of the book is non-fiction. The second portion of the book is fiction The takeaway is that the coronavirus pandemic is so much more than a public health crisis. It will arguably change society. Right now, we are not sure exactly how. But we can look at which areas will be impacted. Broadly, there are five scenarios for our post-pandemic future. The five scenarios considered in this book are: borderless world, nation-state renewal, two worlds apart, Hobbesian chaos, and status quo. Which one do you want to foster? And, do these scenarios scare you? Fascinate you? Surprise you? Bore you? Mobilize you? S1 Ep 16The Future of Human Perception AI
Futurist Trond Arne Undheim interviews Gabi Zijderveld, Chief Marketing Officer at Affectiva, the MIT MediaLab spinout. They talk about perceptive AI, the future of augmented reality, data privacy, and ethical uses of face recognition. The takeaway is that artificial intelligence is getting better and better at understanding humans in context and their cognitive states. This can be useful for autonomous cars, for virtual conference speakers, in telehealth, as well as for advertisers. But is it enough to start rivaling human perception? Not for a while, and perhaps that’s not the point. We talk about trigger points to achieve greatness, promising startups, the globalization of venture capital, the importance of finding founders with drive, spike, and grit. We also discuss the future of work. The takeaway is that the future of pre-seed investing is changing by globalizing and moving beyond the old startup hotspots and into places like Amsterdam, Oslo, Sydney and Nairobi. VC is also maturing and moving away from the US-concept of an elevator pitch and seeks a deeper understanding of the founder, validating the startup idea and building a product by bringing in talent and networks across markets. Futurist and author Trond Arne Undheim reviews the RSA Asia Pacific & Japan 2020 Virtual Event, arguably the world's leading cybersecurity event, this time only available as a virtual event. My takeaway is that taking part in a virtual event during COVID-19 is necessary and interesting but it is not how we are going to spend the next decade. The virtual interface is okay, but not great. It lacks a lot of the contextual cues that you find in live events or indeed even in websites. There is enormous scope for improvement, to make it more seamless. Ep 20Disruption Games: How to Thrive on Serial Failure--Introduction
Futurist and author Trond Arne Undheim reads from the introduction to his book Disruption Games: How to Thrive on Serial Failure which was published by Atmosphere Press in May, 2020. The takeaway is that taking part in disruption games, just like the Olympic Games, takes training and effort. The failures along the way can be immensely valuable. However, you cannot fail too fast. For failure to be instructive, it has to have a deep cost in time and energy. You can excel at disruption games by getting a feel for the game. You can only do that by going native, going deep, where failure hurts. Full immersian has real consequences. After listening, check out Disruption Games on the author's website, where you can also find retail options for the paperback, ebook and audiobook. S1 Ep 9Killer Applications of Next Decade’s Edge Computing
Futurist and author Trond Arne Undheim interviews Carlo Daffara, CEO and co-founder of NodeWeaver, discussing the future of edge computing. The takeaway is that the importance of edge computing lies, not in the technology itself, but in what it delivers, namely killer applications across industries. The edge is based on the realization that given the amount of data we now generate, all of that data cannot always be moved around. After listening, check out NodeWeaver as well as Carlo Daffara's profile on LinkedIn (cdaffara). The show is hosted by Podbean and can be found at Futurized.co.
