Show Notes

Lisia Spellman, Sustainability Director for Compass Group at the University of Pittsburgh, discusses measures toward a #sustainable #foodsystem. She also talks about the reusable container program as part of the campus #sustainability initiatives, which aids in decreasing food waste at the back of the house. Along with another initiative aimed at lowering greenhouse gas emissions, the program works for environmental targets. Transformation of the global and local food systems is required to assure the supply of healthy, safe, and nutritious foods in both sustainable and equitable ways. Food systems are complex structures that influence diets, human health, and a variety of other outcomes such as economic growth, natural resource, environmental resiliency, and sociocultural influences.
