In Season 2 episode 13 Beth and Wendy Discuss Henry Louis Wallace, AKA the Taco Bell Strangler. We got into the weeds on this one so it will be a 2 parter. In Part 1 we discuss this American serial killer who killed 11 women in North and South Carolina. Many serial killers target strangers, victims to whom they have no link or relation whatsoever. Henry Louis Wallace was not that kind of serial killer. Wallace preyed on people that he knew: his co-workers and acquaintances. We get into the time, early 90s and the place Charlotte North Carolina. We talk about the emergence of crack cocaine and its effects on poor black communities. Beth and Wendy talk about how Wallace's mother was a strict disciplinarian. She would punish Wallace with a switch and during Culture Corner with Beth and Wendy we explain what that means. We get into Wallace's early life and crimes which began as burglaries, which then escalated to rape and ultimately murder. On this week’s episode, Beth and Wendy discuss La Madrina, the Black Widow, the Cocaine Godmother and the Queen of Narco-Trafficking, Griselda Blanco. She was a Colombian drug lord of the Medellín Cartel, and a pioneer in the Miami-based cocaine drug trade and underworld for decades. It has been estimated that she was responsible for more than 200 murders while transporting cocaine from Colombia to New York, Miami and Southern California. She was shot and killed on September 3, 2012, at the age of 69. Blanco grew up in Medellin Colombia during La Violencia. She witnessed violence and death on the daily and was the victim of severe abuse at a young age. We discuss her early life and her rise to power as The Cocaine Godmother. There are an infinite number of rumors and stories about La Madrina and we touch on those. We get into the setting, the timeline, her arrest, and where they are now. On this episode we discuss Juana Barraza, an amateur Mexican wrestler and serial killer dubbed La Mataviejitas (or "The Old Lady Killer") who was sentenced to 759 years in jail for killing eleven elderly women. The first murder attributed to Mataviejitas has been dated variously to the late 1990s and to a specific killing in November of 2003. The authorities and the press have given various estimates as to the total number of the killer's victims, with estimates ranging from 24 to 49 murders.We get into Barraza's tragic beginnings. She was the victim of physical, emotional and sexual abuse at the hands of her alcoholic mother and the men in her life. As a mother, she worked multiple jobs to make ends meet. In this episode Beth and Wendy dive into Jessie Dotson Jr. and the Lester Street Murders in Memphis, Tenn. He killed six members of his family - four adults and two children, and also attempted to murder two of his nephews and one niece, all in one night. STATS Jessie Dotson Jr was a mass murderer who killed his brother and his brother’s family after an argument. He had 7 victims Jesse Murdered someone in 1994, and later after a release from prison on March 2, 2008. He was arrested on March 8th His victims (speak their names): Halle Cox / His brother Cecil Dotson, 30; the brother's girlfriend Marissa Williams, 27; Hollis Seals, 33; Shindri Roberson, 22; and his two nephews Cemario Dotson, 4, and Cecil Dotson II, 2 His MO was Shooting the adults, and beating/stabbing the children Location: Memphis, TN Status: Sentenced to 18 years in prison on November 21, 1994. Released on parole on August 27, 2007. Sentenced to six death sentences on October 12, 2010. We get into the killers early life, the timeline, the investigation, and what happened after his arrest. We also get into our take aways, what we think made him snap and have a discussion about ways we can help our local communities and prevent young people in our neighborhoods from turning to the streets in our How not to get murdered segment. On this episode Beth and Wendy discuss Lam Kor-wan aka The Jars Murderer aka The Rainy Night Butcher aka The Rainy Night Killer and The Hong Kong Butcher. Lam is Chinese and he lived and worked as a taxi driver in Hong Kong. He holds the distinction of being Hong Kong’s first (recorded) serial killer. Lam Kor wan had at least 4 Female Victims, we say that because he took pictures and video of his victims mutilated bodies and it looked to some like the body parts photographed came from more than 4 victims. His known victims were age 17 to 31: Chan Fung-lan, female, age 21 Chan Wan-kit, age 31 Leung Sau-wan, female, age 29 Leung Wai-sum, female, age 17 He struck at night and on rainy evenings. MO: He strangled them, took photos of their nude bodies, dismembered them and preserved their sex organs in tupperware containers at home. Lam was apprehended 17 August 1982. This was after he attempted to develop some of his photos of his “projects". This week Beth and Wendy discuss Cannibal Killers! Happy Thanksgiving! We got a double whammy for ya. Since it’s thanksgiving and we will be filling our bellies with Turkey and sweet potato pie we thought we’d tell you about some cannibalistic killers of color. It’s like turkey and sweet potato pie for your ears. First up is Peter Bryan, a Black British guy with a history of mental illness, who killed people by beating them in the head with a hammer and cooking his friends brain in a frying pan. Second we are talking about Omaima Nelson, an Egyptian model who lived with her husband in California. She killed and dismembered his body, then she mixed his remains with Thanksgiving leftovers and cooked up his ribs with BBQ sauce and ate them. Thanks for listening! Mr. Travis is an American serial killer who tortured and murdered women while videotaping it. His crimes took place in Ferguson Missouri and in Illinois. He had 12 to 17 victims. On Fruitloops Episode 11 Beth and Wendy discuss the life, crimes and victims of Timonthy WIlson Spencer, AKA The Southside Strangler. This case is notable as the first case in the US where DNA was used to convict a serial killer. Timothy Wilson Spencer was convicted of raping and strangling four women over 11 weeks in 1987. There was very little circumstantial evidence and Spencer did not confess. Then DNA tests linked semen from the crime scenes with Spencer's blood. Most of Spencer's victims were killed while he was living at a Richmond halfway house after being released from a state prison, where he had served three years of a 10-year sentence for burglary. The slayings took place on weekends when Mr. Spencer was signed out of the halfway house. Jake Bird AKA The Tacoma Axe Killer was born in Louisiana, in what he described as a town with no post office, and he claimed that he could not remember it. He confessed to being involved in or committing 44 murders. He was apprehended on October 30, 1947 and hanged at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla. Up until the 1970s Bird was considered the most prolific serial killer in the history of the United States. But what he is most known for is his hex. (WTF ???) Chester Dewayne Turner, also known as The Southside Slayer, is an American convicted serial killer. On April 30, 2007, he was convicted of the murders of 10 women in Los Angeles, and was also found guilty in the death of the unborn child of one of his victims. In part 2 of our discussion about America's first black female serial killer, Clementine Barnabet we get into her wild confession, the media coverage and her trial. Her defense attorneys claimed she was insane, but she stood trial, was found guilty of the Randall murders and she was sentenced to life at Louisiana Penitentiary at the age of 19. Clementine Barnabet was sentenced to life in prison at Angola State Penitentiary. In July of 1913, she tried to escape jail but was caught before she even made it to the gate. Despite her escape attempt, she was considered a model prisoner. She didn’t, however, serve very long. In August of 1923, Clementine Barnabet walked out of prison and was never seen or heard from again. Clementine Barnabet has been called the first female African American serial killer. Her case has also been referred to as the "Mulatto Axe Murders" because the victims were murdered by axe and they were members of families with mixed-race children. Mulatto is an antiquated term which was used at the time to describe people of mixed race. The killer was presumed, by blacks and the police alike, to be selecting victims on the basis of their mixed – or “tainted” – blood. This case is also often referred to as "The Voodoo Murders", because of an alleged religious "voodoo" motive. The crimes began in 1909 and ended in 1912. Newspapers attributed up to 35 killings to Clementine, either by her hand or her instruction; she claimed she personally murdered 17 of these. And once again, the murders received little newspaper coverage, and as the years have gone by, few people remember these cases.
