One of Elon's favourite libertarians, she even got Javier Milei to retweet a photo from the conference this year. Well done, Nat!</p> <p>We recorded this conversation a few days before the election, so we didn't know the result. We’re even reading out Nostr messages at the beginning of each episode. Well, it’s time to take a deeper dive, but before we do, I want to give my best 101 intro to start you off.</p> <p>This is important. As far as I can tell, Nostr is not just another fly-by-night social media platform that will never get enough onboarders to change the world. Yes, it’s true that most people are using the protocol for social media right now, but that misses the point of this incredible new technology.</p> <p>Nostr (Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays) is a decentralized, censorship-resistant protocol for creating and sharing content.<br /> It uses no central servers or authorities.</p> <p>As an open protocol, anyone can use, implement, and build upon it without requiring permission.</p> <p>In the same way Bitcoin works, users identify themselves with cryptographic public-private key pairs and send messages through a network of relays. This makes censorship on the platform incredibly difficult since users can connect to whichever relays they choose. So, if a relay is censoring content, you just switch to another that isn’t.</p> <p>Social media apps are just the start, as you’ll hear in this episode. Well, it's been a phenomenal journey for me, which has taken me all over the world, meeting exceptional people who are really pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the market of living together.</p> <p>Of course, I feel very fortunate to have had this opportunity to learn out loud about all this stuff, and thankful that you've been able to come along with me for the ride. Before I started this podcast, governance wasn't high on my list of interests, but as the months have gone by, I've realised that it's one of the most important aspects of the freedom that we're all searching for in the world. Also, one of the aspects that is often at the heart of conflict and dispute.</p> <p>If only it were as simple as 'live and let live'… but we all know that it's not and never will be, so we carry on discussing, building, and creating parallel systems into which people can voluntarily opt in.</p> <p>There are no utopias in the future, there's no end to this road, but right now, what there is in our present is a world in which you can choose to work on a project that you believe in, a project that you can offer up to your fellow humans to join in or not, and then after that, and I've said this many times before, it's just a case of turning up each day and putting in the work.</p> <p>Never forget, you get to work on what I believe are the most interesting projects on the planet at this particular and incredible time in history. And I, for one, am extremely grateful for the opportunity.</p> <p>So here's to another 100 episodes of this podcast and to all the future pioneers I'll be talking to over the next two years. He’s the co-author of the book ‘Bitcoin is Venice’, a very well respected book about modern economic theories… both the good ones and the bad ones. The title of the book comes from one of the Allen's essays in which he connects the properties of Venice which lead to it becoming arguably the most successful cities of all time with the attributes of the monetary technology of Bitcoin.</p> <p>As you may guess, Allen thinks that Bitcoin could be pivotal in helping to usher in a new age of governance and worldwide economic realities. We discuss Venice’s 1000+ year success story and its final demise along with his take on the sovereign individual thesis we see playing out in real life at the moment. Allen is somebody who uses the word 'Fiat' as an adjective, so we inevitably end up discussing the importance of letting go of the fiat monetary system in favour of a Bitcoin standard.</p> <p>All in all this is a very interesting conversation at the intersection of Free Cities and Bitcoin. Don’t think that’s a problem? I do, but don’t just trust me. Here’s how Agustín Carsten, the general manager of the Bank of International Settlements framed it a couple of years ago whilst he was talking about physical cash: "A key difference with the CBDC.. is that the central bank will have absolute control over the rules and regulations that will determine the use of that expression of central bank liability.”</p> <p>Yes, that’s right, it's programmable money issued solely by the creepy psychopathic banking overlord types. That’s my characterisation of course, but I’ve linked that particular speech in the show notes below so you can take a look to see if you would trust this guy as the issuer and controller of your money.</p> <p>Fortunately for us, since 2008 we have had an antidote to this sociopathy. I had so much that I wanted to discuss with Tuur but only 1.5 hours in which to talk. In hindsight I think I was trying to conjure up the understanding that what Tuur experienced on his ibogaine trip and what we are all experiencing in our daily lives are very similar in nature, and that is summed up well in the title of this episode. Tuur says it in the conversation: </p> <p>“Let's identify how we are shackled’.</p> <p>I think that many of us are stumbling through life without ever noticing the shackles that are shaping our actions. This is a also true for our money of course as we discuss in the conversation, but the thing I was trying to convey is that change begins with the acknowledgment and experience of awareness. When we become aware of our shackles, be they suppressed childhood experiences or fiat monetary systems, from the position of awareness we can begin to let them move and become 'unstuck' as Tuur likes to call it. </p> <p>This is an episode about finding hope in dark places. He is the incredibly successful entrepreneur who is both the brains and the finance behind Ciudad Morazán, Honduras’s so called blue-collar Free City.</p> <p>Massimo is a life-long Libertarian who saw an opportunity to create a unique passion project when the Honduran government passed its ZEDE legislation back in 2013.
