Ep 263“The Keys to Healthy Aging: How Everyone Can Live A Long Life.” - Part 2

Full Episode Description: When you’re asked your age, how does that make you feel? Do you feel older than your stated age number, or younger? Aging well is healthy aging, whereby you approach the advancing years with vitality and joy, and in good spirits, with faculties intact and in holistic wellness. Is all that even possible? And if so, is it expensive to be on that path? What is a biological age test? Have you ever had one? Simply, it involves taking a sample of your DNA, typically through a cheek swab, to identify how your body has ages on a cellular level. The result is based on both your DNA traits as well as epigenetic or lifestyle choices. Biological tests may not be the most accurate way to test for aging, but they do indicate how much damage has been done to your body’s tissues as they have aged. There are a number of factors that can affect how you age. These are categorized as intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors. Intrinsic factors include those that cannot be changed or modified, such as genetics, damage to your DNA, and the structure of your skin’s components, collagen and elastin. Extrinsic aging, on the other hand, can be modified. These include the environment or pollution, lifestyle choices, sun exposure, smoking, nutrition, hydration, chronic stress, loack of sleep, and others. Conventional wisdom is such that in order to live a long and healthy life, all of these extrinsic factors must be addressed effectively and consistently. Chris Mirabile believes that living a long and healthy life doesn’t have to be so arduous or expensive. He emerged from a serious medical diagnosis with a drive to live a long and healthy life. He shares how to reduce your biological age without intense commitment or breaking your budget. He shares how to reduce your biological age without intense commitment or breaking your budget. Ep 261“The Roots of Entrepreneurship: Using Problem-Solving as Creativity.” - Part 2

It isn’t everyone that can manifest an entire product line from trying to solve a personal problem. Talk about a pivot! Leona Dondi holds a MS in Social Psychology and was on a PhD path to becoming a professor. During this time, she was experiencing hair issues such as dry scalp irritation and hair loss. In problem-solving mode, after she performed a Google search, she found ingredients that helped her solve her hair issues. But, she did not stop there. Her relentless pursuit of addressing the problem solidified after a trip to Korea. There, she recognized the value of integrating culture with self-care, specifically care of the skin and hair. It was then that she dedicated herself to create her own hair care company, and infuse her Kenyan culture into her own product line. Having been a user experience researcher at Google and a senior product researcher at Netflix-- and therefore, understanding what the user or consumer wants-- Leona was able to harness her work experience to jump start her entrepreneurial journey. Today, she is the Founder of Uzima, a hair care line to address the specific needs of those with kinky and curly hair. She joins me today via Streamyard on the Forever FAB Podcast to discuss the evolution of her Super Power as an entrepreneurial problem-solver. Ep 257“Breast Health: Why You Should Burn Your Bra” - Part 3

According to Wikipedia, “The history of bras (or brassières) is closely tied to the social status of women, the evolution of fashion, and shifting views of the female body over time. Throughout history, women have used various garments to support, cover, restrain, reveal or modify the appearance of their breasts. Artifacts dating back to the 14th century BCE, depict women wearing bikini-like garments. By the 14th century CE, the proto-bra was in development in Europe. From approximately the 16th century CE onward, the corset dominated the undergarments of wealthier women in the Western world. By the early 20th century, garments more closely resembling contemporary bras had emerged, though large-scale commercial production only occurred in the 1930s. By the time the war ended, most fashion-conscious women in Europe and North America were wearing bras. From there, the bra was adopted by women in other parts of the world, including Asia, Africa, and Latin America.” (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_bras) Sydney Ross Singer is a pioneer of applied medical anthropology, and the co-author of the internationally acclaimed book, Dressed to Kill: The Link Between Breast Cancer and Bras. Ep 254Love You Long Time: Healthy Tips for Longevity: Part 2

Hello everyone; it’s Dr. Shirley! Welcome to Fifteen Minutes of F.A.B., a segment of the Forever F.A.B. podcast, where I review products, services, experiences, and frankly, whatever-- in 15 minutes or less. If the full-length podcast is a couture dress, then FFAB is a button-down Henley paired with leather leggings. If you don’t have time to tune in to my full-length podcast, check out Fifteen Minutes of F.A.B. Some have considered it truth in beauty, plastic surgery secrets, or as a nerdy or academic take on wellness and beauty… with a dash of fashion. Consider it what you may, my aim is to engage you as a credible and authoritative voice in most, if not all, aspects of beauty and wellness, with a dash of fashion—including products, wellness services, technologies, new scientific research, and innovations in plastic surgery. As the founder of Holistic Plastic Surgery, my approach to beauty is through a lens of wellness, that is grounded in science, backed by medical study and research, strengthened by clinical experience, and bolstered by surgical training with the use of principles and techniques of plastic surgery. And, there’s my love of fashion, of course! I feel uniquely qualified to talk with you about beauty, wellness, aesthetics, and plastic surgery, as well as products and services within those spaces,… not only because of my extensive training and expansive background, but also because I am one of you! Many of the human issues around aging and being a fierce FAB woman as well as an agent for positive change-- I live these, too. You are not alone. Together, we can help the world to become a more beautiful Forever FAB place! So, that said let’s get started. [Start the timer (timer sound)!] In this new year, I’ve decided that it will be one of expansion and discovery. So, I will explore all sorts of topics—near and possibly farfetched, while still focusing on the topics that make the Forever FAB podcast… well, FABulous, namely fashion, the art of living well, and beauty. As part of my philosophy of holistic plastic surgery, where I believe that beauty emanates from within, wellness plays an integral role in my practice. This goes for many aspects of life that help you to live in grace and beauty, including nutrition, exercise, products, technologies, mind-body, spirit, and science. Main Points: The average life expectancy to date for men and women in the US is 77.28 years. Many factors affect how long you live. These include, but are not limited to: Age Genetics Epigenetics Lifestyle Gender Access to health care Diet Access to clean food Access to clean water Exercise Environment: crime? Education Social support Socioeconomic status And more It can be said that if you do all the right things from the list I mentioned, you know-- eat well, get enough sleep, manage stress-- the FAB Five rules of a Beautiful life-- then you may increase your lifespan. But, this is not guaranteed. There are also factors that have been shown to reduce or shorten your life. These include, but are not limited to: inadequate sleep lack of exercise & inactivity unhealthy diet lack of social support & loneliness Unmanaged stress Smoking Alcohol abuse Drug abuse And so much more. The first question to ask is: do you love your life? Then ask yourself, do you wish to live longer? If yes, then do you have a sense of purpose, one that contributes to the greater good? There is significant interest not only in age management, but also in longevity. According to the Healthy Longevity Clinic, “The definition of longevity is living a longer and healthier life. It means how long a person is going to live, and how healthy his later life will be. You can also understand the term longevity as the description of the state when a person lives beyond their average life expectancy.” (https://www.healthylongevity.clinic/blog/what-is-longevity- definition#:~:text=The%20definition%20of%20longevity%20is,average%20life%20expectancy %20(1).) Ep 245Is it Fake or Real Part 3: AI and Beauty

The topic of AI is an interesting and sometimes hotly debated one. For something that is without emotion, AI can be an emotional discussion for some people. I’m fascinated by the possibilities that AI may bring to humanity, but am also cautious and concerned about the potential minimization of what is beautiful in humanity. So, let’s take a dive, not so deep, into AI and how it affects some of my favorite topics—beauty fashion, and wellness. In this three-part mini-series of FFAB on the Forever FAB podcast, I’ll talk about how AI may influence who we are and how we live our live vis-à-vis the three pillars of FAB. Welcome to Part III: AI and Wellness. Dr. Shirley Madhere is a NYC-based plastic surgeon and Founder of Holistic Plastic Surgery. This philosophy is based on a whole-body, mind, and spirit approach to beauty and incorporates wellness, integrative nutrition, functional aesthetics, and complementary medicine.
