And Wonger thought he jumped into it, but the siren song of sweet lady 'Gym', wasn't loud enough. Plus, James and Dunny whistle. The Premier League has a new home in Canada this season: FuboTV. James Sharman, Craig Forrest, Brendan Dunlop, Jimmy Brennan and Dan Wong welcome one of Footy Prime's favourite guests, self/team proclaimed Funniest Player on Canada's Women's Soccer team, Canadian Hall of Fame career player and now, a CF Montreal collaborator in the development of women's soccer, Amy Walsh. The Crew and Amy breakdown her career - her journey from Nebraska Cornhusker, to CanWNT player, to TSN Sideline reporter and how she will work with CF Montreal, creating opportunities in women's football. Ep 275This Just In! Erling Haaland destroys Man United, Arsenal smack Spurs & VWFC’s Playoff dreams
Erling Haaland is not human. That we can all agree on, right? Brendan Dunlop, Craig Forrest, Jimmy Brennan and James Sharman try to make sense of Sunday’s Manchester Derby that saw the Norwegian and Phil Foden become the first pair of teammates to each score a hat-trick in a Premier League match. Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t play but of course Dunny had us talking CR7 for 15 minutes. North London is red, and no one seems surprised that Arsenal are flying because they were all swooned by how Amazon's All Or Nothing documentary portrayed Mikel Arteta. Conor Gallagher burned Crystal Palace as Chelsea find their footing under Graham Potter. Liverpool look like a shell of the title contenders we expected Jurgen Klopp to field this season, but Sharms is handling it better than you'd expect. Wolves sack Bruno Lage, but Dunny doesn't read Portuguese well enough to know who his replacement will be. Craig is thrilled the Vancouver Whitecaps still have a shot at making the MLS Cup Playoffs. Wonger and Dunny make repeated multi-sport references which sparks a verbal altercation between Jimmy and Jeff Cole about Muhammad Ali's ranking amongst the greastest boxers of all time. A great time had by all! Unless of course you're a Man United fan... Ep 274News & Such: Premier League is back & author Josh Kloke’s new CanMNT book
The international break is over for Canada‘s men’s national team, but the CanMNT talk doesn’t stop! We chat with writer Josh Kloke of The Athletic about his new book The Voyageurs: The Canadian Men’s Team’s Soccer Team’s Quest to Reach The World Cup. From Josh's journey in writing the book across Canada's CONCACAF Octagon topping World Cup qualifying run, to John Herdman's 26 men on the plane to Qatar, and the importance of Doneil Henry to the chemistry of the change room, Dunny, Craig, Jimmy & Wonger leave no CanMNT stone unturned. There's more jersey drama in international soccer. The Premier League is back with two massive fixtures on the cards in the North London Derby on Saturday and the Manchester Derby on Sunday. That marked the return of Footy Picks and the West Ham bias of Craig and the underdog blindness of Wonger. Ep 27352 days and counting, 5’2” and pouting, Canada's Men's Team & Herdman's options
It's another all action pod after Canada held their own against Uruguay in Bratislava in Tuesday's friendly, the boys channel Bob Ross to paint a rosy picture for CanMNT ahead of Qatar 2022. Questions fly around who will complete a Canadian midfield that is certain to include Stephen Eustáquio, but will Atiba Hutchinson, Jonathan Osorio, Samuel Piette or Ismaël Koné be alongside him? Wonger is worried about Luka Modric and Croatia after their Nations League showing, while Dunny sips Polish beer that ironically sparks a conversation about Moroccan players Canadian fans should be afraid of when they face Canada in Group F. Craig regales wholesome stories featuring his old national team chums. Sebastian Giovinco also tries to pull a fast one... on Toronto FC. And, inspired by TFC's Federico Bernardeschi, the coolest members go all Toronto street slang on their square podmates. The Premier League has a new home in Canada this season: FuboTV. Ep 271This Just In! UEFA Nations League surprises, Croatia isn't old & Uruguay awaits for Canada
A weekend without club football left Brendan Dunlop, Craig Forrest and James Sharman with no shortage of talking points as they recklessly speculate which of Canada's upcoming opposition will give CanMNT the most trouble, and how Russia have set up fixtures against internal states. The sudden geopolitical shift in topics led to discussion of the Czech Republic's official name change to "Czechia", which stunned Sharms. Craig can't believe how good Luka Modric still is for Croatia at age 37. And shockingly, Dunny didn't even speak about Cristiano Ronaldo's goal-less 90 minute performance for Portugal. CanMNT's approach against Uruguay on Tuesday, Gareth Southgate's "crisis" and USMNT's poor form are also discussed at length, as is Ballou Tabla's worldie for CPL Playoff bound Atletico Ottawa, and Chicharito's playoff chance boosting brace for the LA Galaxy in MLS's lone weekend fixture. England lose to Italy again, relegating the Three Lions to the second division, which has the English media circling Gareth Southgate and many people asking "what IS the Nations League?" Also, Jimmy shares his name with a dog, Dunlop flaunts his $11 jackpot, Dan teaches us to know our worth, Sharms is a creep on 90210, and Craig once dressed as a pumpkin on live TV. Ep 265Premier League All-Star Games, King Charles & attending Russian state funerals
James Sharman, Craig Forrest, Brendan Dunlop and producer Dan Wong react to new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly's very American Premier League All-Star Game idea. Dunny is not a fan at all, and revealed a deep lying distaste for the mega rich. There's more monarchy talk about King Charles III's accession, and how impossible a job it must be to follow his beloved mother, after 70 years on the throne. Craig tells some incredible stories about being amongst the first soccer teams from this side of the iron curtain to play in the old Soviet Union, barnstorming around Russia and Ukraine with his old Ipswich Town teammate Sergei Baltacha in the late 1980's. Talk of the preservation of Vladimir Lenin's embalmed body, naturally led to talk of Aaron Lennon. Jimmy Brennan joins us for ten minutes from his son's competitive tryout to join the crew in complaining about Todd's ASG idea. Ep 264INTVU: Greg Sutton, ex-TFC, Montreal Impact & CanMNT goalkeeper
This week’s interview series episode was a reunion for Jimmy Brennan and Craig Forrest, as former Toronto FC goalkeeper Greg Sutton joined his old CanMNT teammates, James Sharman and Brendan Dunlop. They laughed about some of the early days at TFC, described what it was like to play for Mo Johnston, and just how bad it was to play on that OG turf, each and every day. Now the master coach of both the men’s and women’s teams at Concordia University, Sutton tells the crew about the depth of talent playing in Quebec, how the pathway to the CPL has kept players home instead of heading south chasing NCAA opportunities, and what it was like working with Jesse Marsch at the Montreal Impact. Ep 263News & Such: Premier League postpones matches in wake of Queen Elizabeth’s death
James Sharman, Craig Forrest, Jimmy Brennan, Brendan Dunlop and Dan Wong still fill your ear holes for nearly an hour, despite there not being any Premier League matches to preview after the news that all 10 matches have been postponed this weekend. Instead they answer thrilling questions like: What country would you want to be a football director in? Ahead of the World Cup, is it better to be playing at top form for a club team that’s battling every match, or a team like CF Montreal that’s flying? Craig, was Jimmy the most naked of all your teammates? If you were a toilet and not a person, what would be the worst country to be a toilet in? Ep 261INTVU: Sid Seixeiro, Breakfast Television Host & professional viral video sports ranters
If you've lost sleep wondering how Portugal will handle Cristiano Ronaldo at the World Cup in Qatar, this is the show for you. Sid Seixeiro joins the crew to laugh it up with his old Score teammates James Sharman and Brendan Dunlop, about the old days at theScore Television Network and the transition from covering sports daily to morning TV as the co-host of Breakfast Television on CityTV. Craig Forrest, Jimmy Brennan and producer Dan Wong love Sid's unprompted rants, of which there are plenty. Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag may have done Fernando Santos a favour ahead of the World Cup and the crew debate what role Ronaldo will have in a Portugal squad that is incredibly talented from top to bottom. And naturally Craig and Jimmy try to decipher whether Sid or Dunny is the more athletic Portuguese-Canadian charity tournament star. The Premier League has a new home in Canada this season: FuboTV. Ep 260This Just In! Labouring TFC lose 401 Derby & Man United end Arsenal’s perfect season
Brendan Dunlop, Craig Forrest, Jimmy Brennan and James Sharman recap a wild derby weekend that saw CF Montreal recover from conceding two goals in the first 7 minutes, to beat Toronto FC 4-3 dealing a massive blow to TFC’s hopes of making the MLS Cup Playoffs. The crew discuss the glaring weaknesses that have hurt TFC’s late Italian influenced surge. Manchester United’s ended Arsenal’s perfect season with their best performance of the Erik ten Hag era, thanks to a debut goal from new star Antony and a stellar return to form for Marcus Rashford. Dunny is worried about what Cristiano Ronaldo’s situation means for Portugal at this winter’s World Cup. No one envies Fernando Santos. Nottingham Forest’s loss to a reeling Bournemouth has Jimmy worried that Steve Cooper’s days are numbered, and the crew agree that the writing is on the wall for Brendan Rodgers. Craig is furious with VAR for denying West Ham a point at Stamford Bridge. Sharms is content with a Merseyside Derby draw, because we were all entertained in the process. Jonathan David and Theo Corbeanu put their names on this scoresheet this weekend, which had the boys talking CanMNT, and did you know Joe Hart was Celtic’s goalkeeper? Ep 259News & Such: Premier League clubs spend billions as transfer window closes & Ronaldo stays at Man United
James Sharman, Craig Forrest, Jimmy Brennan and Brendan Dunlop react to Thursday's Transfer Deadline Day deals, and the incredible amounts of money spent by Premier League clubs in this summer transfer window. More than £2 billion ($3.03 million CAD) changed hands, seeing players like Antony join Manchester United and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang return to London to join Chelsea. But Cristiano Ronaldo did not leave Man Utd, despite a summer of speculation that he did not want to stay and miss out on a season of Champions League football. Leicester City's reluctance to spend money has Brendan Rodgers calling out his owners, and the crew wondering if he's the next man to lose his job. Would he get another big job after LCFC? Chelsea fans will have to wait to see Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in Chelsea blue as he recovers from a broken jaw suffered during a home invasion in Spain, that led to a "more money, more problems" conversation about what footballers, like Paul Pogba, have to deal with off the pitch that people often don't consider when criticizing what they're doing on the pitch. Producer Dan Wong and Jimmy share near death experiences, that they laugh through the entire time. Spoiler alert: pizzas and peeing ones pants are themes. And Footy Picks sees the boys sit on the fence chasing draws and underdogs. The Premier League has a new home in Canada this season: FuboTV. Don't miss a second of the action! Ep 258The Deadline Day Show... before the transfer window closes
Transfer Deadline Day is one of the most exciting days for any soccer fan. It also means when it passes, we can actually have a clear picture of what level teams should be at, and most importantly, the countless transfer rumours and click bait stories stop. Temporarily. James Sharman, Craig Forrest, Jimmy Brennan and Brendan Dunlop react to Toronto FC's 2-2 draw with the LA Galaxy in the Greg Vanney Derby. Riqui Puig's wonder goal has the crew gushing. The deadline day rumours of Neymar to Chelsea have the crew speculating if the Brazilian would be as effective a superstar in the Premier League as Erling Haaland, who remarkably is on pace to score 76 goals this season after bagging his second hat-trick in as many games. The boys try to figure out how Premier League defenses could plot to stop the big Norwegian, and Scott Parker's poorly timed sacking has them all sympathetic. Craiger went to a 225 year-old cathedral and the organist played "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles". There's video on the @footy_prime Twitter account. Producer Dan Wong shares a mic with Forrest which made for an interesting audio dynamic, and an entertaining mail bag read. And nobody listens to Dunny, or wore yellow on Transfer Deadline Day. Ep 257INTVU: Mark Noonan, new CPL commissioner & CSB CEO
Brand new Canadian Premier League commissioner and CEO of Canada Soccer Business, Mark Noonan, chats with James Sharman, Craig Forrest, Jimmy Brennan and Brendan Dunlop on this week's interview series episode. The veteran sports executive speaks about his impressions of the CPL, his excitement for the new role, and the potential he sees in a country he believes has more than any other in the sport. Having previously worked with Major League Soccer, the US Soccer Federation and as CEO of Accra Hearts of Oak SC in Ghana, Noonan brings a wealth of experience to the 4 year old CPL. He tells the crew how a simple LinkedIn message led to dinner with a King and a move to Africa, explains why the labour issues Canada Soccer finds itself in are a sign of growing up, and ranks the creation of a women's league high on the priority list of targets. Ep 256This Just In! Liverpool add another GK to Craig's 9-0 club, Haaland's hat-trick & TFC's brilliant Italians
There's a new member of Craig Forrest's "I conceded 9 goals in a game once" club! Liverpool put nine past Bournemouth's Mark Travers on Saturday, adding the 23 year-old Irishman to a list of goalkeepers that only includes our beloved Craig and two Southampton keepers that have picked the ball out of the back of their own net nine times in a Premier League game. Craig had no shortage of things to talk about with Brendan Dunlop and Dan Wong. Any concern for Liverpool's season after Monday's loss at Old Trafford dissolved Saturday faster than Manchester City took control of their visit from Crystal Palace, as Erling Haaland bagged his first hat-trick in a Man City shirt, and his 13th league triple. He's only 22 years old. How terrifying is that? Dunny is worried about Steven Gerrard after Aston Villa dropped the Dunlop-Forrest derby, losing 1-0 to West Ham. Tottenham and Arsenal have the crew thinking the Top 4 picture won't look clear until spring time. Wonger wants access to all the GPS tracking bibs that agents never want other clubs to see, and wishes Craig had the opportunity to play on the pristine pitches today's players enjoy. We hope you enjoy Dunny's Italian impersonations and his explanation of Portugal's banned name list. Toronto FC did the double over Charlotte FC with another goal each from designated players Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi. CF Montreal firmly have their hands on an MLS Cup Playoff spot, while Lucas Cavallini lost his head against Nashville SC as the Vancouver Whitecaps desperately try to stay in the playoff hunt out west.
