Will Healy is a pianist and composer who plays multiple genres of music including classical, jazz and hip hop. In 2023 he won the Leonard Bernstein Prize from the ASCAP Foundation. He has performed at venues like Jazz at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. His arranging credits include works for the New York Philharmonic and the Albany Symphony. He is the artistic director and founder of ShoutHouse, a group of hip-hop, jazz, and classical musicians. As a pianist, he has performed solo recitals in the United States and abroad. He also plays piano and synthesizers in the Pathos Trio, an award-winning metal-influenced chamber group. He is also a founding member of Upstream, a duo with violinist and composer George Meyer. Rowan Ricardo Phillips is an acclaimed American poet and writer. He’s the author of several books, including the poetry collection “Silver”, which was a finalist for the National Book Award, and “I Just Want Them To Remember Me: Black Baseball In America”. He is also the author of the poetry collections The Ground, Heaven, Living Weapon and When Blackness Rhymes With Blackness. He’s also a sportswriter and he wrote The Circuit: A Tennis Odyssey about the 2017 pro tour, and a book about Roberto Clemente. He is the recipient of an Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He’s the poetry editor of “The New Republic”. And he is a Professor of English at Stony Brook University. Tamar Sagiv is an Israeli-born cellist and composer. Her work explores themes of memory, identity, and emotional resonance. She is the recipient of the Zubin Mehta Certificate of Honour, in addition to an award from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation. She’s performed as a soloist with orchestras in Israel and Germany, and at venues including Lincoln Center and Alice Tully Hall. And he began performing regularly with orchestras at 6. At 16 he performed at the Kennedy Center in an Inauguration Concert for President Obama. He was the first American soloist to perform with the Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra in Baghdad, raising money for the Children’s Cancer Hospital. Tom Sleigh is a multiple award winning poet, dramatist and essayist. He’s written eleven books of poetry. His most recent is “The King’s Touch”, which won the Paterson Poetry Prize. His other works include “Army Cats”, winner of the John Updike Award, “Space Walk”, winner of the Kingsley Tufts Award, and “Far Side Of The Earth”, which won an Academy Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His poems and prose have appeared in The New Yorker, American Poetry Review, Yale Review and The Village Voice. He is a Professor (Emeritus) at Hunter College. And he has also worked as a journalist in Syria, Lebanon, Somalia, Kenya, Iraq, and Libya. Lora Logic is a British punk and post-punk musician. In 1977, when she was 16, she became the saxophonist in Poly Styrene’s seminal English punk band, X-Ray Spex. They had a hit with “Oh Bondage! Up Yours!”. She went on to form Essential Logic, a post-punk band with duelling saxophones that released one album in 1979. 43 years later she released a second Essential Logic album together with a box set of her back catalogue. Essential Logic plays a post-punk mix of punk, jazz, reggae and funk. Her life took a detour in the ‘80s when she joined a Krishna community, became a mother, and dropped out of music for 25 years. Rachel Flowers is an extraordinary musician. She’s been blind practically since birth but that hasn’t held her back one bit. She is an amazing multi-instrumentalist. Her genres include classical, jazz, rock and pop. She plays piano, keyboards, flute, guitar, bass, saxophone and something called the Chapman Stick. She’s performed with Arturo Sandoval, “Skunk” Baxter, Dweezil Zappa, Rik Wakeman of Yes and Burt Bacharach among others. She was mentored by Greg Lake and Keith Emerson of ELP and by Herbie Hancock. She’s won numerous awards as a pianist and a flutist. Welcome to Part 2 of the two-part Special Episode introducing my new release, “MA PETITE FLEUR STRING QUARTET”. This work transforms my jazz ballad into a lush classical string quartet piece. The work has been praised by a host of Classical Music Stars, all of whom are listed below. In Part 1 yesterday we listened to this new work. In Part 2 today we're going to introduce the incredible musicians who brought this piece to life.David Shenton is the genius arranger behind this work. David is an English pianist, violinist, composer and arranger. He started playing the violin at age 7 and he’s composed hundreds of works from small piano pieces to full-length operas. Violinist Katie Thomas is a soloist, chamber musician, studio violinist and concert-mistress. She’s played on Grammy winning albums and also recorded with artists like Rosanne Cash, The O’Jays, Jimmy Fallon and the animation series “Dragons”. Violinist Erica Dicker works in a wide variety of musical settings in both notated and improvised music. She is a member of the electro-acoustic trio Vaster Than Empires. She is also a founding member of the horn-trio Kylwyria. And she’s known for her work with composer and multi-instrumentalist Anthony Braxton.J.J. Johnson has been the violist at Radio City Music Hall. His Broadway musical experience has included On The Town, Cats, Fiddler On The Roof, An American In Paris, Wicked, My Fair Lady, and Sunset Boulevard. He has also appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman. Dave Eggar is a Rock Star cellist who recently was a guest on the podcast. He’s a 5x Grammy nominee. He’s worked with Paul Simon, John Legend, Norah Jones, Foreigner, Josh Groban and Train. Jane Eisner is an acclaimed journalist, author, educator and nonprofit leader. She was the editor-in-chief of The Forward, the influential Jewish newspaper. She’s been a professor at Columbia School of Journalism and a reporter at The Philadelphia Inquirer. She’s interviewed Barack Obama, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Benjamin Netanyahu among others. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, the Washington Post, The Atlantic, Los Angeles Times, and many other publications. Welcome to a Very Special Episode of the podcast! This episode celebrates that we just passed 4 MILLION DOWNLOADS! I started the podcast 4 1/2 years ago, during the depths of the pandemic. At that time I had no audience and no guests. What I did have though was a goal: to inspire and motivate people to follow their dream, just like I followed my youthful music dream later in life.I’m pleased to say that the podcast has succeeded beyond my wildest expectations. It’s won several awards and been ranked for some time in the top 1% of all podcasts, with listeners worldwide on every continent in 200 countries. My guests have been a remarkable collection of World Class musicians, actors, authors, directors, photographers and other creatives.It took two years to reach 1 million downloads, but only one more year to pass 2 million downloads. Then another eight months to surpass 3 million downloads. And now just another six months to pass 4 million total downloads - accrued over more than 630 episodes.In those six months I’ve aired over 130 episodes featuring more extraordinary guests, and also introducing several new singles as well as my latest album, What’s Up. These musical works have featured a number of guest artists who were guests on the podcast.Doing this podcast has been a privilege. I’ve gotten to meet extraordinary artists from all over the world. At last count I’ve had guests from more than 30 different countries. My guests have introduced me and my listeners to a vibrant world community of music and the arts, one that is connected despite differences in language and culture.
