Follow Your Dream - Music And Much More!

Welcome to Part 1 of a two-part Special Episode introducing my new release, “MA PETITE FLEUR STRING QUARTET”. This work transforms my jazz ballad into a lush classical string quartet piece. I’m pleased to say that the work has been praised by all of the Classical Music Stars listed below. In Part 1 today we’re going to listen to this new work. In Part 2 tomorrow we're going to introduce the incredible musicians who brought this piece to life.But first, here’s the back story.Last year, following my podcast interview with Michael Abene, Grammy award winning big band arranger, I asked him if he would create a new arrangement of my jazz ballad, “The Gift”. Michael agreed and transformed my song into an extraordinary big band Samba. My band mates and I were the rhythm section on the recording. I was introduced to David Shenton, a genius arranger, who took my song, “Ma Petite Fleur” - my little flower - and arranged it as a classical string quartet piece inspired by my song. Noel Brown is a Professor of Film in Liverpool, England where he’s a scholar of film, TV and animation. He’s published eight books, mostly on children's films, the most recent on the subject of Radical Children's Film and Television. Frank Dupree is an award winning German pianist and conductor. He plays both classical and jazz. He performs with orchestras and also as the leader of his own jazz trio. Career highlights include performances with the London Philharmonic, the Bern Symphony and the Sinfónica Nacional de México. He’s performed at festivals around the world and at venues like Lincoln Center, Royal Albert Hall and Wigmore Hall. Brook Speltz is the acclaimed cellist of the internationally renowned Escher String Quartet and an artist of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. He’s performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and recitalist throughout the world. He’s the First Prize winner of the Ima Hogg Competition. He has performed as a soloist with many orchestras, and he’s toured with the cello rock band Break of Reality, whose video of the Game of Thrones theme has 28 million views on YouTube. Lauren Ellis is a terrific drummer and composer from halfway around the world in Wellington, New Zealand, now living in Los Angeles. She’s worked with Peter Erskine, at USC's Music School. She plays with groups as diverse as the LA Philharmonic and with Seth Macfarlane. She writes commissioned works for jazz ensembles in the US and in New Zealand. Juan Chiavassa is an Argentinian born drummer, producer, and composer. His work spans a number of genres, including jazz, Latin, R&B, soul, hip-hop, rock and world music. As a performer, he has collaborated with Mike Stern, Paquito D'Rivera, Esperanza Spalding, John Patitucci and Jimmy Haslip among others. He performed on The Tonight Show with Bad Bunny. Pierre Piscitelli is a Grammy winning keyboardist, composer and arranger. He’s worked as a session keyboardist as well as an arranger for various string ensembles and big bands. His master work is a comprehensive 253-page anthology of all of the music of Lyle Mays, longtime collaborator with Pat Metheny. And he also scored Mays’s work Eberhard. Welcome to a Very Special Episode of the podcast! This episode celebrates that we just passed 4 MILLION DOWNLOADS! I started the podcast 4 1/2 years ago, during the depths of the pandemic. At that time I had no audience and no guests. What I did have though was a goal: to inspire and motivate people to follow their dream, just like I followed my youthful music dream later in life.I’m pleased to say that the podcast has succeeded beyond my wildest expectations. It’s won several awards and been ranked for some time in the top 1% of all podcasts, with listeners worldwide on every continent in 200 countries. My guests have been a remarkable collection of World Class musicians, actors, authors, directors, photographers and other creatives.It took two years to reach 1 million downloads, but only one more year to pass 2 million downloads. Then another eight months to surpass 3 million downloads. And now just another six months to pass 4 million total downloads - accrued over more than 630 episodes.In those six months I’ve aired over 130 episodes featuring more extraordinary guests, and also introducing several new singles as well as my latest album, What’s Up. These musical works have featured a number of guest artists who were guests on the podcast.Doing this podcast has been a privilege. I’ve gotten to meet extraordinary artists from all over the world. At last count I’ve had guests from more than 30 different countries. My guests have introduced me and my listeners to a vibrant world community of music and the arts, one that is connected despite differences in language and culture. Martha Redbone is an extraordinary artist - a singer, songwriter and composer. She was selected as a United States Artist Fellow. Her music has been called a “tasty gumbo” of roots music which combines the folk and mountain blues of her youth growing up in the coal country of Kentucky, together with her teenage years living in Brooklyn, NY. Her songs and storytelling share her life experience as an Afro-Indigenous woman and mother. She writes about social justice, connecting cultures and celebrating the human spirit.In 2020 Martha received a Drama Desk Award for her work on the show “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuff”, at the Public Theater. He played weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, private parties and the like on the weekends. In particular he loved Latin music. Whenever we were in the car he would always tune the radio to one of the Spanish stations on the AM radio dial in NYC. Spanish music became infused in me. She’s a leading champion of the Great American Songbook, and she’s known for her work as a singer, pianist, composer, lyricist, actress, TV host, and producer.Her resume is off the charts. Ann was voted by Broadwayworld as “Celebrity of the Year” and two years in a row as “Best Jazz Vocalist”. On Broadway she was nominated for a Tony award for her performance in the hit musical “Swing!” On TV she was the one who wrote and sings the theme song for the hit series “The Nanny.” In film she starred opposite Angelina Jolie and Matt Damon in “The Good Shepherd”. As a songwriter she is a multi-platinum artist whose songs have been featured on seven of Barbra Streisand’s CD’s, and her songs have also been recorded by Michael Feinstein, Carole King and Liza Minelli. As a recording artist she has released 83 CDs. And she’s won just about every award that there is out there. He’s worked with Paquito D’Rivera, Pedrito Martinez, Ariacne Trujillo Durand and Mike Stern, to name just a few. He’s played on more than 80 albums including eight of his own. Amelia Davis is the owner of legendary Rock Photographer Jim Marshall’s archive, his former assistant, and the caretaker of his legacy. Jim Marshall was a photojournalist, street photographer and the Godfather of Rock and Roll Photography in the ‘60s. His work captured that era and is still relevant today. Jim photographed everyone from the Beatles to Jimi Hendrix to the Grateful Dead. Benjamin Hochman is a dual threat artist. He’s a pianist and a conductor. As a pianist he debuted at 24 as a soloist with the Israel Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall conducted by Pinchas Zukerman. He’s performed with the New York Philharmonic, Chicago and Pittsburgh Symphonies, and Prague Philharmonia among others.
