Salmon and Steelhead on the Salmon River, New York 2012. Rob recounts his road trip to the Salmon River aka SRNY. The weather is usually horrible and the fish don't want to be landed. Listen as Rob and his group of steelhead crew get up early and work the water all day. Steelhead are migratory rainbow trout that leave their birth river for open water - the ocean or lakes - depending on where they were born. They return to the rivers for the winter and will feed regularly until they return to the open water after the spring spawn. Unlike salmon, steelhead do not die after they return to spawn.
