When I saw the trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes I wrote to Trav just asking if i could re-release the episode we recorded 4 years ago in celebration of this new movie and Trav said let's do a new pod chat, so here we are! ACTOR: DAMON HERRIMAN Talk about a pinch me moment! What an actor! Damon has a brilliant career here in America as well as back home in Australia. His body of work is so large that we couldn't cover everything. You may know him as playing Charles Manson not once but twice; in David Fincher’s Mindhunter and again in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.We got to sit down and chat in Los Angeles ahead of the release of his new movie The Bikreriders written and directed by Jeff Nichols. This story is based on a book Jeff found one day at his brother's house which was a collection of images taken by Danny Lyon. These images spanned over a decade documenting a midwestern motorcycle club. The cast is stella; Damon is acting alongside Tom Hardy, Austin Butler, Michael Shanon and Jody Comer! I've seen the film and it's beautiful, all shot on film, you're in for a treat. It's officially out now in both Australia and America. In this chat we go back to where it all began for Damon; starting out as a child actor in Adelaide, he's never been technically trained, learning his skills on the job. In 2004 he booked his first Hollywood movie that was shot in Australia; it was a horror film with Paris Hilton called House of Wax and that was his window into Hollywood, off the back of that we was able to get meetings and auditions. Damon's big American break came when he was cast in the US neo-western crime series Justified as the lovable villain Dewey Crowe. He was only meant to be in the pilot episode but then became a recurring character for 6 seasons. This show gained a huge cult-like following and really cemented Damon as brilliant acting stock here in America. Back home in Australia he played Feddy in Mr Inbweeten; this character was another loveable crim who you end up rooting for even though his character is a bit of a villan. It's a wonderful Aussie series! He's won an AACTA award for Judy and Punch, and more recently he was in The Artful Dodger as another complicated baddie!So as you can see we just scratched the surface of all of the work gigs Damons had! What a powerhouse! At 27 Erin co-founded Triangle swimwear and it grew to the point that it was making $200K USD per day! And Kendall Jenner emailed Erin asking to wear a pair of her bikinis, then proceeded to tweet about it to her 5 million followers. Erin was living what many would call the ultimate dream; private jets, luxury clothes, super yachts and a home in Monaco. But underneath it all she was mentally hurting. Battling an eating disorder, imposter syndrome and a lot of self doubt, Erin shares that her happiness was what drove her to stepping away from Triangle and coming back to Australia to heal and working on her mental health. What a brilliant career Anna Robards has had; from criminal law to going on The Bachelor at just 26 years old and having not dated long term before. Meet Daisy Mack, founder of Spiritual Mixtape! 📼 She’s humble, grounded, kind and here to talk to us about breath work, self improvement and why having the freedom to choose what you really want to do is so important. Daisy had a great executive career as an agent and manager to some of the biggest names in the world. She was VP before 34! She had status and money but was also on the brink of burnout. Daisy figured out that the root of all her problems was stress. When her Dad fell ill she quickly changed her priorities so she could be with him while he was in palliative care. This was the beginning of her stepping away from her high powered job to find her true purpose. Daisy’s dad who’s passed now taught her a saying “you can only be you” which has stuck with her and helped her navigate changing careers. As you’ll hear in today’s chat Daisy explains that through perseverance, curiosity and a desire to be better that eventually she was able to connect with can find her true self. Strap yourselves in for this one! David is back on the pod! In this episode I take David to LA true crime locations and I don’t tell him anything about them until he tunes in and tells us what we feels and senses. Not to give anything away… but the Lana Turner murder house will blow your mind! This was recorded chronologically in the order in which you hear it. All locations and details listed below. The first one we recorded in the East parts of LA and this episode is all based around the West neighbourhoods of LA. Righto, back to today’s ep. Here’s the locations in order of us visiting them today. Marilyn Monroe’s Brentwood House: this is where she passed away in 1962 from a barbiturate overdose. They’ve been trying to stop this house from being demolished. David’s take on this spot and what happened is very interesting, I don’t what to give anything away here but ready yourselves!! Nicole Brown’s Brentwood House: this is the location where OJ Simpson brutally attacked and murdered her and her friend Ron Goldman in 1994 Lana Turner murder Mansion: this is very interesting! You’ll hear in the episode but we had no idea that we were at the location to the day exactly 66 years after this murder took place. 4th of April 1958 Lana Turner’s on again off again mobster boyfriend was murdered in her house. Johnny Stompanato was one of Micky Cohen’s bodyguards and he was allegedly threatening to kill both Lana, her daughter Cheryl and Lana’s mother this night. Lana was present as was her 14 year old daughter Cheryl. Story goes that Cheryl was studying for her mid-term exams at school when she heard them arguing and she ran to the kitchen to grab a knife to scary him off. She ran upstairs to her mother’s bedroom where Lana and Johnny were arguing and when the door opened Johnny swung at Lana, she then stepped out of the way and her daughter Cheryl stabbed Johnny. To which he replied “what have you done.” It was ruled as “justifiable homicide” but there are rumours that this could have been planned all along. Let’s hear David’s take on it! Greystone Mansion: this one is a sad story where two bodies were found and nobody knows if it was a double murder, double suicide or a murder suicide. Ned Doheny, son of oil tycoon Edward L. Doheny, was found dead on February 16, 1929 in a guest bedroom of Greystone Mansion alongside the body of his longtime friend and assistant, Hugh Plunkett. David gives us his take on this which makes the story even sadder. Santa Monica boardwalk: this is where the Tool-Box killers Lawrence Bittaker and Roy Norris picked up their teenage victims in 1979. They had met in prison 2 years prior. Then when they were both released they bought a van and would abduct girls from the sidewalk in Santa Monica, then rape and brutally murder them with the things they kept in their toolbox. Norris was the first to plead guilty. Bittaker was found guilty. In fact I’ve interviewed someone who went to visit Bittaker in San Quentin prison, crime fiction author Candice Fox, you can hear Candice talk about sitting down with the serial killer in that episode.
