Season two is coming in hot!!! I and Luke A. are laying down the groundwork for what you can expect out of the executive protection lifestyle podcast and brand this year. I've got no shortage of content this year and it is very exciting! I'm throwing down gear reviews, training reviews, real-world combat after-action reports, the EDC chronicles will continue and so will the considerations episodes. Perhaps most importantly, the interviews with the biggest and the best in the executive protection industry will continue coupled with interviews from people you've never heard of before who are doing some truly amazing things behind the scenes. EP 66: Recap and Transition

This season has been absolutely epic!!! I started this podcast out as a cool side project that I could use to hopefully get the word out about ways to do the job better. I simply wanted to make a contribution to the industry that has been so good to me but I knew that the contribution needed to be something that wasn't all about me. The podcast would give me a perfect platform to do that by seeking out other industry professionals who were doing amazing things in the private security game. I wanted to create something that would give other industry professionals the insight they need to survive and thrive doing what we do. I wanted to create something that would help others benefit from the conversations I wish I was able to have when I started on my first full-time executive protection detail at the age of 21 traveling the world and trying not to get fired. The podcast itself came out of the Facebook group but together they both worked synergistically in order to create a brand that I've come to realize is a very influential blessing to many in the private security game that is absolutely priceless... The groups on Facebook and LinkedIn are places where people are finding work, finding quality manpower and getting the information they need to level on a weekly basis. The podcast itself has emerged as the most listened podcast within the realm of private security and especially the executive protection space. I worked hard to make these things available but the credit really goes to all of you for listening, watching, liking and sharing this content in order to improve the quality of the game from us. Thank you so much for seeing the value in this work and selflessly spreading it around the industry as you have in order to help me in the endeavor to help us all when I'm doing what it is we love, protection. The private security industry is scheduled to double over the course of the next few years, there's more than enough for all of us to prosper and succeed in this market. I'm honored and humbled that you have all supported this work in the ways that you have and I'm genuinely looking forward to contributing the best I can as we move forward into the future of 2020 together. This brand has become vast and multifaceted so below you will find different ways to benefit from this work, stay plugged in and hopefully take your protection game to the next level as so many of us have been able to during our first year of production. EP 65: EDC 4 (Barry Mozian)

Barry is a private security professional of the highest order in my opinion. I remember the day I first saw the way he organized his gear because I instantly had 1 million different questions. I was just starting out working at the California circuit, renting myself out to the highest bitter and “chasing the pager.” After all of these years and after all of these experiences, once I started doing this Executive Protection EDC series, he was one of the industry professionals that stuck out in my mind. Barry is a wealth of knowledge in many different areas and if you haven’t already found it, I’d like to encourage all of you to go back to one of our previous episodes #32 where we dive deep into the topics of workplace violence and private security investigations. EP 64: Style is Communication

Not only is George Grant doing some amazing things for one of the top private security companies in the game but he’s also emerging as a liter on a topic that doesn’t get enough attention. That topic is the style of Executive Protection with regards to fashion and appearance. Most agents may pretend like they are too tough to take this topic seriously but it is a topic I’ve seen greatly impact Close Protection agents' careers on many occasions… To be entirely honest with you I can look at an agent and based on their style alone I can almost estimate their survivability in many cases because this one component will greatly impact their ability to gain cultural equity with their client and their clients' circles of influence a.k.a. “the royal court.” As much as people don’t want to admit it, this industry and dare I say life itself has a vanity to it and while you may not be the biggest or the strongest, if you can look good, you will go farther and there’s actually quite a bit of science that validates what I’m saying. Nonetheless George a.k.a. the EP style guy is using his influence not only to do good work out in the field but also help agents take their appearances to the next level. When you realize that style truly is communication and that very intelligent people pay attention because they know that everything truly does count, it becomes obvious why many many high-powered individuals actually pay attention to this one component very closely. Beyond all that, your style impacts the brand of your client and if you’re out of step with your client's image in many cases you will be out of step with your client. This interview was lots of fun and is packed with priceless information on fashion they can help us all have more successful careers. ENJOY!

EP 63: The Power of Being Genuine

I met Jeff at the Executive Protection Institute where we both trained for one week straight in order to become certified Close Protection Specialists and part of the Nine Lives Association. Instantly I could tell that Jeff was one of the smartest humans in the class. By intelligent, I don’t mean book-smart but his linguistic choices that were very thoughtful and tempered, the tone and feel of the way he communicated instantly caught my attention simply because of the warmness and appropriateness of his presentation when speaking. As we spoke briefly on our way to our rooms sometime around 1:30 AM after the first night, I knew that he was an individual in our class that I would learn from for sure, our interaction got me really curious about his current vocation as well. Upon speaking with him further I was not surprised to find out that he’s done quite a bit in his career and still does a lot in the realm of crisis communication and hostage negotiation. As private security professionals, we find ourselves in situations where we need to control the social dynamics but we must do it without the authority of a badge. Jeff and I interacted many times over the course of our 100-hour course at EPI and I will remember him as one of my favorite people in the class who I feel lucky to be connected with and to associate with as alumni from the Institute. I’m very excited to bring more pertinent, sensible and effective information to bear through the podcast on this extremely important topic of communication because I believe this is where many of us fail or succeed on the job. EP 62: Fail Often to Succeed Sooner

Caleb Gilbert is truly a one-of-a-kind protection agent. With no military or law-enforcement background, he has legitimately changed the way people do executive protection in this modern age. As one of the original creators of the covert protection model, his contributions to the game of private security will far exceed his career. What I truly appreciate and respect about Caleb is simply that even after creating the COPRO strategy and operating within the levels of success relative to being able to support such an elaborate security strategy, he doesn’t stop there. He continues learning, stays hungry, continues mentoring and contributing because he’s a man on a mission to find out not only how far he can go but how much he can give to this game we love before the end of his career. Any man who is this dedicated to growth and contribution is a man that has my respect. The things we talk about in this podcast simply will help anyone who does what we do take their game to the next level. EP 61: Tactical Light Source Considerations

Chris Skahills has got to be one of the most technically proficient human beings I know. When he’s interested in something his mind is literally like an encyclopedia or a dictionary. He’s the type of guy who knows everything there is to know about a subject almost literally. In every squad you have people with different skill sets and beyond his martial arts background and being one of our best shooters/instructors, he’s also our light expert. He’s the guy you talk to before going to buy any light source be it a flashlight, hand-held light, weapon-like or anything else of that sort. He’s taught classes on it, he has an industry background in it and has the most intimate knowledge of the technical and tactical aspect of light than anyone I’ve ever known. Before purchasing my very own Surefire EDCL 1-T, I consulted with him on the ideal light not only for work but also every day carry. Two years after purchasing the Surefire EDCL 1-T, it's by far my favorite handheld light and the best handheld light I’ve ever owned. The use of light is a force multiplier and tactical tool that is very often overlooked as an asset in my opinion. Out of all of the gizmos and gadgets I carry on me, my hand-held torch is the one I use the most both on and off the job. With all that been said, Chris Skahills is a close friend and genuinely the best person I know to shine some light on this underutilized, understudied and very often underappreciated area of expertise with regards to the private security game. Those of you who worked events, clubs and other venues know all too well what I’m talking about. We go deep into all aspects of light selection, usage and tactics during this interview, enjoy! EP 60: Better weapon better position

Tom comes across as an extremely down to earth guy and honestly, that’s what I like most about him. As he spoke there wasn’t an error of this unrealistic capability that he could pretend that he has simply because he’s one of the main men in the knife fighting game but rather, he really seems to respect combative arts and the reality that in combat, anyone can kill you. We focused on knife fighting and blade encounters during this interview but it was also made clear to me that he also has a thriving firearms training component to his work as well. His response to one of my usual opening questions concerning who he is has really blown me away and is probably one of my favorite answers all year… He said that he wants to be the type of man people can count on. To me I think that’s what everything is all about on so many levels in life, not just professionally but also with regards to your friends and family. The time I spent with Tom was fantastic, informative and straight to the point. I’m also looking to learn quite a bit more about edged weapons this year in order to become a more well-rounded protector in this case the podcast worked as a fantastic mechanism to have a conversation with one of the men at the top of this game. Lastly, I hear that he will be coming to my area to do some training early next year, I hope to join in there and do a review so keep your eyes open for that. ENJOY! Tom Kier is considered to be a subject matter expert (SME) by USSOCOM and holds a Master Instructor rank in Sayoc Kali “The Art of the Blade” with over 27 years of training in the system. He also holds full instructor and senior instructor ranks in other combative systems and is adept in striking and grappling systems as well as weapon-based systems. As the Director of Operations for Sayoc Tactical Group (STG) he has trained Military, Law Enforcement, and Government Personnel for the last 20 years. As an Instructor in concealed carry applications, he helped develop the comprehensive Integrated Combatives Program (ICP) for certain military and government clients in 2005. The (ICP) combines Firearms, Edged Weapons, Striking and Grappling into a fluid and practical application of force. Tom continues to refine and develop the (ICP) for those interested in developing this capability. https://www.nrapersonalprotectionexpo.com/seminars-workshops-events/presenters/tom-kier/

EP 59: The cost of the game

Fain is a genuine, down-to-earth athlete/private security professional. We share almost a parallel story and path into the private security game. The opportunity came in an instant and we had to act decisively in order to take advantage of it. In many ways, we had to be willing to sacrifice everything that we used to be in order to take advantage of who will we could possibly become. It’s very interesting to me how everything tends to come full circle and we both eventually found ourselves wanting more and deliberately changing the structure that was the former glory of our previous ideals. This podcast is about the journey of a young man finding his way in the world through a law enforcement career and into some of the highest levels of the private security game but what’s most special about it, is simply where we all hope to end up in the end if we do it correctly. It was an honor to do this episode because it was so real! This is something that professionals don’t even think about when they set out on the journey that we go on during our rise to the top and our time in the glory of the crowds, private jets, and seven diamond hotels. Some may wonder what could be more important than all of those things… I will tell you that everything is perfect within its season, that we are blessed to have experienced all of those things living such a supercharged life but we are also blessed if there’s anything left for us to come back to in the end once the lights turn on and everyone is told to go home… Do you have an exit strategy? If you don’t then do your best to take everything you can away from this conversation.

EP 58: Coming Up In The Game

Kevin is a good friend of mine who I met through competitive shooting and Luke A. When I first met Kevin, he worked in the firearms industry for a large company that manufactures tactical products. Kevin was also an armor and so he was like our squad smart guy/armor/technologically sound troubleshooter dude if you know what I mean. Maybe not the sexiest guy in the squad when it comes to backgrounds because Kevin is pure civilian but very intelligent within his realms and a much better shooter than most executive protection practitioners for sure. Eventually, the day came when it was time for Kevin to make a career change and he wanted to segue into the private security game. We began talking and devised a plan. That plan worked and it worked within the span of just over one year’s time. Kevin went from having no job experience to some low-level stuff with some local boutique shops to running security for a major corporation in the area. Naturally the truth concerning how you will make it will be relative to your situation and the tools you have available to you but the more you know, the more you can do in order to win. This interview covers many different aspects of success in the executive protection industry and various aspects of getting started but what I’m most excited about concerning this episode is that it allows the listener to understand the strategies, relationship economics and personal work ethic behind Kevin’s success. My hope is that by understanding those relationship economics, you can make your relationships more profitable as well. Since this experience with Kevin, I have since begun working with other security professionals as a consultant to help them launch and sustain their careers. I don’t know how long I’m going to do this and I’m not taking everyone on as a client but if you’re interested click the link beneath this paragraph to learn more and join my “Apprenticeship” on Patreon. Beyond that, enjoy this conversation and see if you can find ways to implement these tools in order to contribute to your own personal success. EP 57: EDC 3

Ed Calderon is one of our elite instructors for this year’s first annual Protector Symposium for many good reasons! When was the last time you studied your enemy, I mean truly studied him, respected him enough to learn from them and became a better protector as a result? These are the types of things we learned from Ed, so if you have not gotten your tickets, hurry up and get them HERE(https://byronrodgersmotivation.com/the-protector-symposium/) because space is going fast. This has been a fun series and this is the third episode we’ve done centered specifically around everyday carry gear. The goal has been to understand what many professionals at the top of the game are using out in the field right now, today! As many of you know Ed Calderon is as real as they come and his background is extremely diverse with operational experience on both ends of the covert and overt sides of the spectrum. As a result, we learned many things from him that are useful to the good guys but what I find most interesting about him, to be honest, are the things that he learned from the other guys and that he now uses to help us all improve our game. Some of you may be surprised that it truly doesn’t take a lot to be effective in many areas of combat, influence, and domination but it does take the right tools, at the right time with just the right amount of pressure. When you do not have much of a budget, a technological advantage or manpower to spare, it is wise to understand the subversive tactics of the modern-day guerrilla and these types of things are woven into this interview. Additionally, check the website (https://byronrodgersmotivation.com/category/tactical-review/) for my tactical review on Ed Calderon’s counter custody/weapon ology course! EP 56: Cold and on Demand

Drew is a good old fashioned American man. He’s a father, he’s a husband, he’s an athlete and he’s a protector. He is a protector who genuinely values empowering other protectors with a very specific skill set that they can leverage against the enemy in order to win battles. Drew has belonged to some very special units in the United States Army and has deployed overseas to combat zones but what drew me to him initially is the same thing that I believe has drawn many people towards his brand. He has a drill that has to deal with manipulating your weapon and engaging targets with a high level of accuracy while being “cold and on demand.” When I first heard about this drill, it touched me deep in my warrior spirit because I honestly can’t even count the number of times I’ve gotten to ranges and thought to myself, “well we warmed up for our shooting day… In real life we won’t have the privilege of getting hot before we start keeping score.” Naturally it’s safest to warm up when you get to the range depending on the level of proficiency of your shooters and even then it’s not a bad idea but this drill takes a real world approach to understanding a shooters ability somewhere closer to the ways he will have to perform Outside of the range when lives are in the balance. I knew that a drill like this could only come from a genuine, practical and experienced mind and this is why I sought Drew out for this interview. Time flew by and we ended up going deep, there’s so much here, ENJOY! More on Drew and BAER SOLUTIONS https://baersolutionsllc.com Free targets https://baersolutionsllc.com/freetargets

EP 55: Understanding both sides of protection

Finally, we have the opportunity to learn from someone who has been on both sides of protection. Yana kaytukova’s Story is remarkable and her experience is very valuable to any practitioner who wants to understand what it’s like to be on the other side of protection. When she was a little girl growing up in the Caucasus mountains in a small republic called Ossetia. Her father chose to keep her under the protection of a bodyguard as a result of some very traumatic events that unfolded at their home one evening. These events shaped Yana’s life in many ways because it was this relationship with her newfound friend and bodyguard that not only helped her feel safe as a child but also heavily contributed to her adult aspirations to join the protection game. From joining the resistance in her country and fighting in a war to winning multiple boxing and kickboxing championships in all over Ossetia and Russia to now being one of the industries young and upcoming talents. Yana brings a full spectrum of experiences that her clients and security detail counterparts all benefit from. Beyond all of this, she has a perspective on life and what we are doing here that is refreshing and will do most anyone some good to hear. She is a powerful, positive and highly perceptive young agent with the advantage of understanding what it feels like to be on the receiving end of what we do. I’m looking forward to seeing where her career will go. This interview has value on many different levels not only for security operatives but also for anyone trying to possibly understand themselves on even deeper levels. Enjoy

EP 54: Protector Symposium

The Protector Symposium is a live event put on for protectors by protectors from all walks of life. Whether you are a private security professional, first responder or civilian, this symposium will teach you how to take your protection skills to the next level. This year it is a two-day event with three amazing speakers (Ed Calderon, Yosef Badou & Mike Pannone) who regularly instruct some of the world’s most elite fighting forces on their given subjects and fieldcraft. The goal is to arm modern-day protectors of all types with tools that will help them identify threats before they become problems and deal with them in ways that keep the innocent safe and increase on-scene accountability. I chose to do the symposium model because I wanted to get as much of this information out to the public as possible in order to do my part to defend against the changes we are seeing in American culture with regards to active threat solutions. Going to the range is good and we must all be extremely proficient with our hard skills in order to get the job done but for this symposium, I also wanted to aim at the soft skills in order to make people better protectors. I wanted to bring content to the market that could be applied by women and children but would also be just as helpful for SWAT operators, beat cops and private security operatives. I wanted to offer the type of information that would cause people who were already playing at high levels to understand ways they can improve on their game and also cause people who are just waking up to the game to be better when they walk out the door. You may not always have your gun with you but hopefully you’ll always have your brain with you and this information is designed to upgrade your software so you’re more a harder target no matter where you are or what you have with you. Learning how to read people and understand pre-indicators is a game-changer and Yosef Badou of Emergence is the man whose teaching the best of us how to do it. Learning hard targeting and about anti-kidnapping techniques and tactics can help you win the fight before it even starts and Ed Calderon of Ed’s Manifesto is at the top of the game with regards to teaching the subject matter to the pros right now, he was just on the Joe Rogan podcast. Mike Pannone of CTT- Solutions belongs to a few of the world’s top fighting force brotherhoods to include Marine Corps recon, Army Green Berets and also Delta force. He single-handedly dishes out more law enforcement and government training hours than 90% of his peers on the training circuit, who better than to teach CCW principles and dynamics. Because how good are we truly if we don’t possess the ability to protect ourselves and our loved ones? Beyond all of this, every single person who attends this training event will receive in return for their $250 ticket purchase over +$200 back in gear and gift cards. This does not include the value of the training or networking that will be taking place at this event as there will be booths set up with local private security companies and a mixer taking place on the last evening at a secret location. - A catered lunch - AS Solutions gifts: 2 books – Public Figures & Private Lives | Corporate Executive Protection and a Data Blocker - N-Ear Gifts: automatic entries to win a stealth 360 surveillance kit - A certificate of completion from Ed’s Manifesto and Yousef Badou - A $70 gift card to train with Artifacts Firearms Training - Executive Protection Lifestyle | Protector Nation swag GO TO for more info: https://byronrodgersmotivation.com/the-protector-symposium/

EP 53: 511 - Always Ready

So why do an episode on 511? Honestly, it’s because their gear is improving the quality of my work product. The pocket configuration on the pants, the quality of the jeans with the stretch and the new cut, the new overall low profile look, and style they are putting out is extremely relevant to the way more and more of us go to work these days. 511 has always been relevant but less relevant to executive protection and more relevant to uniformed work in contracting in my opinion. Over the course of this last year, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the fact that I can now get dressed head to toe in their gear and go to work with my clientele of any type, looking just as smooth as I would look when getting clothes from my other vendors. The major difference and advantage to wearing 511 gear of course it doesn’t come from the style but rather from the durability, dependability and overall tactical considerations put into their products. In my opinion, 511 is now pulling forward to give you the best of a few different worlds with regards to style, tactical advantages plus durability. This episode is about what we wear as professionals. Enjoy!

EP 52: Surveillance Detection

So this is the episode you’ve all been waiting for and no doubt expected me to roll out with Ami Toben. We go deep into surveillance detection in this episode. We dispel rumors on the topic and we discuss salient techniques and tactics that are being used in the real world. Ami is at the top of the game and a very sought after instructor and specialists on this content as I’m sure you’re all aware judging from the following he has on his blog Protection Circle and his best-selling book Surveillance Zone. It was an honor and privilege to have a discussion like this with such a sought after specialist on this topic. What I really enjoyed is how he breaks a lot of the concepts down and relate them with real-world tactics so everything makes sense and isn’t over-the-top technical. Ami Is a wealth of knowledge and I believe we will all get something out of this episode once again. If you liked this episode I want to encourage you to go back and check out the first two episodes (46 & 47) I did with Ami on Terrorist Activity Prevention. EP 51: Standards & Accountability

Mr. Hamilton is a rare man. To me he comes across as someone who in many ways is built of the stuff, I hope I’m built of as well. He’s not a Marine but the values of honor, courage, and commitment really don’t seem foreign to him. During this interview, I genuinely felt I was talking with a more evolved kindred spirit. He is an eternal student of the game first and foremost but he is also one of those rare individuals who genuinely believes and strives to bring accountability and raise the standards of everybody he is involved with. It is a well-known fact and something that is also made obvious during this interview that Mr. Hamilton has and is living a consistent life of contribution. These principles of discipline, contribution, a life of service, accountability and raising standards are values that are very rarely found in people in the civilian sector or anywhere in America these days for that matter. In my opinion, Mr. Hamilton is a man amongst men, a leader of men and a man I really feel honored to be able to have had this conversation with. I also found it inspiring that he shares my passion for empowering people to understand how to protect themselves… It appears we both want to make good people smarter about violence and more dangerous! Furthermore, I believe he is one individual that is definitely contributing to the small body of growing professionals that are restoring honor, dignity, and respect to what we do as private security professionals and our industry. Enjoy! About James Hamilton James Hamilton served 17 years as a Special Agent in the FBI, where he developed the Bureau’s Close Protection Course and served as Security Adviser for the Director of the FBI and the U.S. Attorney General. His specially designed training courses are still taught at the FBI, NSA, NYPD, and many other government agencies. Mr. Hamilton’s Active Shooter training modules teach both Prevention and Response. Modules are interactive, practical, and tailored for each client’s unique circumstances. Links: https://gdba.com/active-shooter-prevention/ http://a.co/ibRAPhe

EP 50: The business of executive protection

If you ask me, Brian Jentzen is one of those rare people who sees the game differently than most. He sees things from something more like a bird’s eye view while most of us are at a high phase with the components of our day dealing with what’s right in front of us. This conversation has lots to do with the business of executive protection, the trajectory of a career in executive protection and what it could look like spanning beyond the years of simply working the streets with your client. After speaking with Brian for only a few moments, his decades of experience in this game and the perspective that comes with it became very apparent, it was also very interesting to learn that we have many of the same interests with regards to the industry at our core. He talks about how an executive protection agent should be regarded as a professional, a specialist such as a banker, doctor or lawyer and that the relationship between the professional and client should be as such. My goal with this podcast and many of the projects I partake is simply to help restore order to our trade by creating higher-quality agents. This interview with Brian will help you think big picture with regards to the private security industry, how to run your business and the trajectory of your career. Enjoy! Background: After leaving the US Marine Corps as a captain in the early 1990s, Brian has pioneered corporate executive protection services internationally for Fortune 500 companies, high net worth families and NGOs. Brian has provided protection at the highest levels of corporate and philanthropic environments in over 35 countries. EP 49: You win every fight you don’t get in

Mike is my type of warrior. He is very cerebral, he’s a bit of a philosopher and an intellectual as well as a physical specimen. I believe this is what the evolution of man was supposed to look like rather than many of the things we see in today’s version of American masculinity. I always appreciate learning that a man has developed himself internally and physically. Mike is a successful businessman who created enough of a win in life to cash his chips in, on a previous career in banking and then go into a career in law enforcement. To me achieving these levels of success in both business and modern-day warrior-ship says a lot about an individual’s internal and external potency. I’ve also noticed two more things that make Mike very special to me, he understands what Leonardo da Vinci meant when he talked about how “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” Simply take a look at his free target, simple yet extremely telling and requires a certain level of efficacy in order to execute properly. At the same time, much of his content is centered around thinking outside of the box, nonstandard problem-solving and real-world combat considerations. Mike has the luxury of leveraging his real-world experiences on the streets to improve the quality of his training regimen. Recently I attended one of his courses and was so impressed that it inspired me to do a full course review (see link below). Bio background MIKE, OWNER/LEAD INSTRUCTOR Mike is a Post Certified Law Enforcement Range Master, Sig Law Enforcement Master Instructor, a current SWAT team member for 11 Years. He focuses his training methods on proven combat tactics with an emphasis on performance. Mike is also a successful problem solver and can identify and remedy most people’s shooting deficiencies. Mike holds a Master’s Degree from Pepperdine University and is known for his critical thinking as it relates to self-defense. EP 48: Treat it like a profession

My conversation with Jerry was truly spectacular. He’s the type of man who comes across very meek, gentle, humble and who has a fun sense of humor. Conversely through all of these refreshing positive attributes, one can sense that he knows his craft of protection to an almost unconscious level of competence from all of the years of experience he has both doing and teaching the art. I would like to suppose that it is all of that experience that allows him to be so relaxed, however, I have a funny feeling it’s just his personality. I met Mr. Heying at this last Close Protection Conference after leaving the stage where I was a panelist being interviewed by none other than Christian West himself. I have tremendous respect and admiration for gentlemen like Mr. Heying who’ve been in this industry longer than I’ve been alive and who have strived vehemently to carry out a career that not just helps them reach their own personal goals but is also one of the extremely high levels of contribution. This deserves respect because this industry will literally chew you up and spit you out after wrecking any type of family and relational life you're trying to have if you’re not careful. With all that having been said, Mr. Heying has been married for something like 40 years… RESPECT. The very nature of what we do demands that you have strong values, understand your worth personally and operate with a somewhat untouchable character if you are going to last in this game. Beyond all this, you must be able to manage your mind and heart effectively so you don’t get complacent or too arrogant or two damaged while living in the shadows of powerful people that are also doing their best to survive in their tumultuous world. So, when I see an individual who’s been in this game that long and it still smiling and has also dedicated considerable time to making others in the profession better… I value every moment of interaction with them as an opportunity to understand priceless lessons that are beyond my current available perspective and experiential information. This interview was priceless, ENJOY! Jerry Heying has more than 40 years of private security, investigations, personal protection, and protection driving experience while working in over 50 countries. Beginning in the late '70s, Mr. Heying was a team member of a large high threat personal protection team for an ultra-high net worth (UHNW) private family. Mr. Heying has attended numerous protection and driving courses and attained driving and protection Instructor status from multiple schools. He also holds numerous professional and state-issued certifications in a multitude of specialties. In 1989, Mr. Heying founded the International Protection Group, LLC (IPG) and the International Protective Service Agency (IPSA); licensed security and investigation companies in several states that specialize in special event security, investigations, secured transportation, and personal protection. Since 2009, IPG has owned and operated the Executive Protection Institute (EPI), the oldest executive protection training school operating in the United States since being established in 1978. Mr. Heying has also been an Instructor for EPI since 1996. >>> Read more at >>> http://www.ipgcompany.com/jerry-heying.html

EP 47: Terrorist Activity Prevention [Part 2]

Terrorist prevention operations, counter surveillance, surveillance detection are really just a few things he is proficient at and conducting operations in the field at an expert level. He is a public speaker and his book, “Surveillance Zone” has been an Amazon bestseller so it’s no wonder I was absolutely honored and very pleased when he agreed to come on our show. In the first episode, we dig deep into who he is as a person, his past, his background and the experiences that have brought him to the place he is currently at in his career. In this second volume we go straight into the techniques and tactics he uses in real-world security details in order to keep himself and his clients safe. “Terrorist Activity Prevention.” This series is very interesting on many different levels as we dive into the real-world experiences and hard-hitting non-PC tactics of the Israeli methods of prevention and protection. The beautiful thing about these types of operations is that they are also applicable to active shooter/active human threat situations as well as virtually every different type of private security detail; so standby for some valuable real-world content and don’t worry we also recorded another episode all about surveillance for those of you who follow Ami for those tactics as well. ENJOY! Background: An experienced security director, consultant, trainer, operator and published author of the #1 Amazon bestseller, Surveillance Zone. EP 46 Terrorist Activity Prevention [Part 1]

Ami and I really had a blast putting this content together! He’s an extremely knowledgeable private security professional with a solid handle on many different aspects of the games we play in the industry. Terrorist prevention operations, counter surveillance, surveillance detection are really just a few things he is proficient at and conducting operations in the field on at an expert level. He is a public speaker and his book, “Surveillance Zone” has been an Amazon bestseller so it’s no wonder I was absolutely honored and very pleased when he agreed to come on our show. In this first episode, we dig deep into who he is as a person, his past, his background and the experiences that have brought him to the place he is currently at in his career. By the end of this episode, we begin talking about the subject matter that will consume part two of our conversation, “Terrorist Activity Prevention.” This episode and series are very interesting on many different levels as we dive into the real-world experiences and hard-hitting non-PC tactics of the Israeli methods of prevention and protection. The beautiful thing about these types of operations is that they are also applicable to virtually every different type of private security operation; so standby for some valuable real-world content and don’t worry we also recorded in the episode all about surveillance for those of you who follow Ami for those tactics as well. EP 45: A woman in the field

This episode has been a long time coming! I have been getting numerous requests to begin generating content having more to do with female protection agents and I am beginning to answer that call. After working with Rachel in the past and being pleasantly surprised with her work product, I was pleased when she agreed to come on the show. As with anyone who’s been in this industry long enough, I’ve seen good female agents and bad ones over the years but I haven’t run into many that take protection as serious as Rachel does. Having met her at a shooting range before working with her and knowing what I know about her other entrepreneurial endeavors, Rachel has proven to have both the hard skills and soft skills necessary for being successful in our industry. So, when I heard that she is right at home on a high-level protection detail at present, I was not in the least bit surprised. This episode is packed with so much and good content around both of the sexes and executive protection from both perspectives that I suggest everyone stops and listens to it. I hear some people saying that we shouldn’t make sex an issue but in reality, there are differences so why not face them, understand them, study them, converse about them in order to learn how to best leverage them. ENJOY!

EP 44: EDC 2

Elijah Shaw EDC Elijah Shaw is an industry professional that I have respected for a very long time. His company icon is a name that is well known and has proven itself in the industry by working with various celebrities on an international level for years. They also conduct high-quality training for private security professionals as well that has gained considerable recognition within the industry. Additionally, his latest book, “Celebrity Protection and Touring: A guide to mastering the business of VIP security,” has easily become one of the most influential books to the private security game this year (2019). I was absolutely honored to have him on the show for EPISODE 6 “Own Your Space” when we first started this podcast, that episode has since gone down as one of our favorite and most viewed conversations. Elijah is the type of individual who is packed with experiential knowledge that he gives freely in every interaction I’ve had with him, he sees to the root of things and is able to articulate information in a way that is very beneficial to the listener. In this episode, we go over his EDC, pocket items and the gear he brings with him when traveling. This episode will be a quantum leap in private security game for many of you, some of the stuff he dropped in here was even light years ahead of me, so I also leveled up as a result of this conversation. ENJOY! “Elijah Shaw is one of the USA’s top bodyguards. He has protected most of the biggest names in Hollywood. EP 43: How to secure your home

Many of us work as protectors to high net worth individuals on a daily basis but how many of us truly have our homes secured properly? Maybe we specialize in asset protection, close protection, church security or cybersecurity but does that mean that we automatically know how to secure our families at home while we are gone? This is a subject and these are the types of questions I’ve asked myself for years as I’ve traveled the world and have had to leave loved ones frequently. This episode is all about how to help protect what is near and dear to each of us. Andy Murphy runs another popular podcast all about personal protection and how to keep your family safe called the “Secure Dad” podcast. He specializes in teaching people how to keep themselves and their families safe, it is for this reason I invited him on our podcast to share some techniques, tactics, and knowledge about how we can improve the defenses of our backfield when we are away on various operations. EP 42: Gunfight at the club

A security officer was forced to shoot Samuel Williams, 33, outside of the 3208 entertainment complex on LongAvenue in Huntsville at 12:40 a.m. Dec. 31. Some are calling her a hero, but she says she was just doing her job. That Security Officer’s First name is Toya and she goes by the name of Trilltoyaonline. My conversation with her during this interview was very intriguing. With a background in the Army and the training, she gives herself, she contracts herself out as a solo female operator to local venues as a security asset. Apparently, she’s worth every dollar she charges and more based on the results of her last contact with an AK-47 wielding military age male aggressor.“Once he started to make moves towards the door, he was still firing off shots. I decided I had to make a choice to go ahead and stop him from entering the club. I fired off two shots. He went down,” Latoya stated. Huntsville police say Samuel Williams returned from a vehicle with a black AK-47 rifle and began firing shots while advancing toward the club entrance. (Source:http://www.waff.com/2019/01/03/security-officer-reveals-how-she-stopped-nightclub-gunman-his-tracks/) What I found most impressive aboutToyais that she was not on some mission to try to be anything she isn't naturally. Instead, she came across as the type of person who is all about accentuating her strengths, working to improve upon her weaknesses and deliver a work product that is in alignment with her drive to contribute on a very high level in the security industry. She is out there earning her stripes, building her company from the ground up as an owner-operator and constantly seeking to improve on herself and the environments she is trusted to influence. This interview dives deeply into the mind of a young woman who is building what seems to be a promising and lasting future in the private security industry, it encompasses her real-world combat experience and also offers insight into a woman’s experience working in the private sector. I guarantee that this interview has something to offer that many of you will not see coming... ENJOY! EP 41: Concealed Carry Considerations

The aim of this conversation was truly to understand the nuts and bolts of selecting and carrying a concealed weapon with no glitz and glamour, just a man training for a few special occasions that he hopes he never has to show up for. Mickey has been studying and training in personal protection for most of his adult life. His content and videos of real-world principles and concepts concerning all things firearms is really what prompted this conversation. After really digging in, it became apparent that Mickey has really grown up into the realm of personal protection as a result of a number of tragedies and experiences with death that he had throughout his life. Everything from how to select your first weapon to ammo selection and holster preferences and how to tell if someone else is wearing a firearm is covered in this interview. Conversely, we go deep into a number of different topics that are not firearms related but have to do with various other governing principles of personal protection as well. Enjoy! Owner and Instructor Mickey Schuch is a firearm instructor, for Pistol, Rifle, Shotguns, Personal Protection Inside the Home and Personal Protection Outside the Home, a Range Safety Officer and a member of Illinois Tactical Officers Association. He is a graduate of Massad Ayoob Group, Midwest Training Group, Tac Med Essentials, as well as many others. Personally, he attends over 160 hours of training per year as a student in courses covering topics such as battlefield medicine to a long-range precision rifle with some of the best and brightest instructors in the world. Mickey is also the President of a not-for-profit, McHenry County Right to Carry Association, a group that is dedicated to effecting change in the legislation pertaining to self-defense, 2nd amendment freedoms and to educating the public on self-defense laws and best practices. The organization was instrumental in the fight to win back rights in Illinois for carrying firearms. He spends most of his days either conducting live fire training or working to promote and protect second amendment rights. At night you can find him at home running dry-fire drills with his kids or smoking some pork in the back yard. EP 40: A Student of the Game

Jared has done very well for himself in the private security industry. He is an innovator, a leader in many respects, a veteran and still a very young man. Something else I always find interesting, intriguing but not surprising is that he does not have any prior law enforcement or military experience. I look at him as yet another poster child for the reality that this job does not require you to have a high-speed background in order to be successful. In many cases I’ve seen high-speed backgrounds hinder agents from rising past a certain point of development and I’ve even seen it cause professionals to lose their seat at the table in cases where they fail to adapt to the new playing field of the private security game. Jared always wanted to become an executive protection agent and now that he is become so much more than just an agent, listening to his story is both tactically valuable for success and inspirational. When I run into people who think that the reason, they are not succeeding in the private security industry has to do with their lack of tactical background, I genuinely wonder what they truly know about what we do, because executive protection is much more of a dance with concierge, social dynamics and logistics than it is combat tactics most of the time. The key to success has more to do with your work product and your network than anything else, add compassion, nonstandard problem-solving skills along with an entrepreneurial mind and you have Jared. ENJOY! As CEO of Asgard Technology Group, Jared Van Driessche is responsible for strategic leadership and oversight of the company and its first app, Protection Manager. Over the course of his long and diverse career, Jared has planned, executed and led close protection details for CEOs, dignitaries, heads of state, boards of directors, celebrities, and various public figures on more than 300 international trips to over 70 different countries. He has extensive international experience, including the provision of close protection and threat assessment to clients in high-risk environments throughout Africa, Asia, Central America, South America, Europe, and the Middle East. EP 39: Just Mike Part II

What I like most about Mike is simply that he is a warrior who is still in the game and can still do extraordinary things. He the type of guy who will explain to you in conversation why he does what he does and hope you try to call BS on it so he can actually show you.No smoke and mirrors, no magic beans, no snake oil and absolutely no shortcuts with Mike. He’s extremely intelligent, articulate and he’s got a lot to give so talking to him can be like trying to drink out of a fire hose if you are not on the level or if he doesn’t choose to break things down for you. With all that having been said he can deconstruct concepts and explain them in a way I haven’t really seen before. Mike and I went on a journey in this episode that is just simply something you're going to have to listen to in order to understand. We transverse a myriad of topics ranging from his time in multiple outfits of our United States Army special forces such as Marine CorpsRecon, Army special forces and also Delta force AKA “The Unit” on into his time as the first operations manager for Triple Canopy. Where else can you listen in on conversations and learn from people like this? I consider Mike to be a natural leader, someone we can all learn froma.k.a.afantastic mentor and also a man that I am honored to be able to associate with from time to time. As usual, my time with him was not only an honor but extremely informative, inspirational and thought-provoking. The best part is, this is only episode one, I’ll drop the next episode as we get a little further down range, ENJOY!P.S. EP 37: Armor - Structural protection and body armor

Structural protection: What type of tactics and principles go into physically and structurally making a piece of land safer and or easier to protect? With regards to your school, place of worship or corporate headquarters, what can you do to the configuration of barriers and various items on your campus in order to make it an overall safer place? Body armor: Do you know what the various ratings of body armor are and how they impact you as a consumer? Did you know that there truly are only two primary classifications and ratings for body armor that are legitimately recognized? Do you know how to choose the body armor relative to your threat profile or how to tell good armor from bad armor? In this episode, I spent time with Jeremy Gray who not only has a colorful military background but is also currently acting as the business and development manager for shoot houses and barriers within HESCO. During our time together we cover all of the above topics, questions and quite a bit more with regards to physical barrier protection as well as personal body armor. This topic is something that any serious protector or modern-day warrior should take the time to understand thoroughly in my opinion, primarily because a mistake in this aspect of your game might not be realized until it is already too late. www.hesco.com https://www.hesco.com/armor/ https://www.hesco.com/solutions/training-ranges/

EP 36: EDC 1 Christian West & Ivor Terret

This is the first episode in my everyday carry series. In this series, I aim to understand exactly what security professionals are carrying out there in the field. I will investigate venue specific EDC, client-specific EDC and any other types of EDC relative to the security industry in order to understand what types of gear can ultimately help us achieve success more easily and we’re out operating with our clients. For the first episode I have Christian West and -Christian West has been active in the executive protection industry since the late 1980s when he worked for Danish musicians who relocated to Hollywood. Upon returning to Denmark, he founded his own EP company, which he quickly grew into Scandinavia’s largest, before it was acquired by Securitas. Christian founded AS Solution in 2003, and again in 2009 followed his international clients to the US, where he is now based. An active member of ASIS and a leader in the corporate executive protection industry, Christian has personally planned and led high-profile engagements in over 76 countries for a wide variety of corporate and high net worth individual clients, including the international roadshow for the biggest IPO in history. https://assolution.com/people/christian-west/ -Ivor Terret, a preferred specialist partner of AS Solution, is currently based in Israel, where he was a founding member, team leader and instructor of a government Surveillance Detection and Covert Security Unit tasked with protecting Heads of State and Strategic Sites. Prior to joining the unit, Ivor was the first in South Africa to lead a security organization securing 60 medium to high-risk sites in Cape Town. In addition, Ivor has designed and implemented security master plans for covert counter-terror units and high-risk facilities and has consulted on a myriad of projects including business parks, hotels, residences, high-risk facilities, and factories. Ivor brings over 23 years of international counter-terror experience at both the official and private sector levels. In addition to consulting and operations, Ivor has instructed hundreds of students including high-risk facility security teams, government covert VIP units, government surveillance detection units, hotel security senior management, aviation security personnel, and senior management, specialized law enforcement and counter-terror units as well as corporate EP and SD units. Ivor is an authorized counter-terror instructor meeting the standards for counter-terror security procedures as set forth by the Israeli Police Force. Ivor served as a combat soldier in the IDF for a total of 13 years (including reserve duty) as well as in the Israeli Police Force in the Old City of Jerusalem. Ivor holds an MSc in Security and Risk Management from the University of Leicester where he was awarded the esteemed Dissertation of the Year Award for his research. EP 35: Cyber Security -How Much Can Cyber Threats Truly Impact Your Life?

Erich is a friend and colleague of mine in the security industry that I’ve known for quite some time now. I believe our friendship spans over a decade and we just been reunited as a result of the trajectory of the security industry. Erich specializes in cybersecurity and is tied into this industry through his work with powers, entities, and agencies that won’t be mentioned here. He is also a speaker and instructor on open source intelligence and cybersecurity. Erich also operates as an executive protection agent as well as a consultant /operator in realms such as human trafficking and fugitive recovery, so he is a professional with a number of skill sets that are valuable in our industry. In this episode, we aim to take a highly sophisticated topic, deconstruct it, and educate our listeners on how they can make themselves harder and less attractive targets simply by implementing a number of very simple habits. Once you understand these principles, it will be much easier for you to move around on the right radars and stay off of the more dangerous ones. EP 34: If You Can Do These Things

Life is a journey with mountains and valleys, seasons, storms and beautiful days. The path to greatness is an arduous one that will require us all to destroy ourselves in our current states in order to rebuild stronger versions of ourselves. Unfortunately, many people run from the deconstruction of who they are today and as a result never unlock the potential that can drive them to become the person they know they can be tomorrow. Personal evolution is a campaign and a commitment to finding a way to better your best through rigorous scrutiny and consistent, relentless effort. In reality, the obstacle truly is the path in this poem and “IF“ really outlines that truth in a way that has improved the quality of my life and I hope will also affect your paradigm in a way that it will improve the quality of yours as well. In this episode, I run through that poem and break things down the way I see them, through my paradigm in order to hopefully contribute and offer things to our listeners that may equip them for our everyday struggles in life, as well as the private security game. “IF” BY RUDYARD KIPLING (‘Brother Square-Toes’—Rewards and Fairies) If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies, Or being hated, don’t give way to hating, And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream—and not make dreams your master; If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools: If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’ If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

EP 33: Hard Work Isn’t For Everybody

Patrick McNamara Mac is a high-octane man amongst men! My time with him was valuable on a number of different levels but what I found to be the most intriguing value about this man was his driving desire to aggressively spread positivity. The conversation went to many different places from EDC tools and principles to physical fitness workouts and routines and even into social dynamics of spy work that he used during the Cold War. The man seems to be elegant and rough, sophisticated and brutish dichotomy of intensity, intellect, focus, and compassion. To sum it up succinctly I’d say that true warriors understand that being a protector or warrior is one of the highest acts of service and therefore whether they are on the battlefield or back here in the first civilian division fighting the hordes of busyness in civilian life with the rest of us, they are warriors who are busy not only serving the people they love but also humanity in their own personal ways. Pat is no different. Although he does serve humanity in his own special way by equipping civilians with the protector mindset, bodies that are ready for war and skill sets that can help them manipulate our current tools of battle. I have the utmost respect for this man and it was an absolute honor to have this conversation with him. Background Patrick McNamara spent 22years in the United States Army in a myriad of special operations units. When he worked in the premier special missions unit, he became an impeccable marksman, shooting with accurate, lethal results and tactical effectiveness. McNamara has trained tactical applications of shooting to people of all levels of marksmanship, from varsity level soldiers, and police officers who work the streets to civilians with little to no time behind the trigger. His military experience quickly taught him that there is more to tactical marksmanship than merely squeezing the trigger. Utilizing his years of experience, McNamara developed a training methodology that is safe, effective, and combat relevant and encourages a continuous thought process. This methodology teaches how to maintain safety at all times and choose targets that force accountability, as well as provide courses covering several categories, including individual, collective, online, and standards. While serving as his Unit's Marksmanship NCO, he developed his own marksmanship club with NRA, CMP, and USPSA affiliations. Mac ran monthly IPSC matches and ran semi annual military marksmanship championships to encourage marksmanship fundamentals and competitiveness throughout the Army. He retired from the Army's premier hostage rescue unit as a Sergeant Major and is the author of T.A.P.S. TacticalApplicationofPracticalShooting) and sentinel. Source: https://www.tmacsinc.com

EP 32: Workplace Violence & Investigations in Private Security

Barry Mozian Workplace violence is something that has affected so many of us over the course of the last few years and it seems to be increasing. I believe principally that the antidote has much more to do with developing an educated public who knows what to look for and how to look for it in the right people at the right time in order to address small problems before they turn into violence. In this episode, Barry Mozian and I go deeply into this subject in order to give the listener some understanding that may lead to decisions that can foster a safer environment for everyone in your workplace as well as hopefully the world. I met Barry as a result of working for Talon Executive Services, a boutique private security company out of Southern California. I remember vividly, that it wasn’t like other companies where you could just walk in the front door with a decent resume and get put on a roster. You may or may not have needed someone to vouch for you and put their reputation on the line in order to get you taken seriously. Once that happened, the “street cred” of the agent who recommended you would be on the line during your time with the company and by proxy, you would also be judged based on that relationship. Needless to say, this company operated in such a way that I really felt honored to be working with these gentlemen once I started to wear the Eagle on my jersey as well. Barry was someone I worked within the field and really that was the only time I saw him. While he is the President of the company, he is also the type of operator who has his stuff very well thought out. When you see the way he sets everything up, organizes everything and approaches the art of executive protection, it’s very obvious that he’s a seasoned tactician who has a passion for what he does. Barry brings a level of excellence, accountability, and forethought to every encounter I’ve had with him so far. He’s not uptight, he’s a relaxed, confident professional, he’s also the type of person that you can tell is probably smarter than you which I always find fascinating. Because he is so technical and thorough when it comes to this craft of protection I knew that a conversation with him on the show would be extremely valuable for many protection agents out in the field. This is an industry episode of the podcast that covers many topics ranging from nearly getting arrested in Mexico during a security detail, to all the way on how to restore hope in clients who feel that they have been taken advantage of by the enemy. I’m sure you will enjoy it! https://www.taloncompanies.com

EP 31: A warrior in the shadows - When diplomacy fails we go to work

John Nettles Is the type of man that I’ve always only heard stories about... The gentleman that I know and look up to would say things like, “John Nettles says this or does it this way” and so we would often adopt those principles or aim to implement those tactics. There are many different types of agents in this game who do what they do for any number of colorful, honorable, dishonorable, immature and/or noble reasons but John has his own reasons for doing the things he’s done over his lifetime which he sums up in this interview simply as, “doing the right thing.” Maybe Leonardo da Vinci was right when he said that, “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” John is also the type of man who has enough field experience on such a wide variety of principles, techniques, and tactics that it was almost paralyzing trying to figure out what exactly to ask him in an interview. For these reasons I chose to aim at his core, to try and understand what exactly it is that drives a man to a life of warrior ship. I aimed to understand the foundation that he stands on inner psychically that has given him the bravery and grace to go into the belly of the beast repeatedly for over three decades. I’m not sure if I got it but I definitely learned lots. He’s not just some cool guy from Instagram or flavor of the month among the myriad of shooting stars in the “tacttardosphere.” He’s the guy you don’t notice and nudge your way past in the grocery store, who doesn’t say anything to you because he knows who he is on the inside in the dirt under his fingernails that day comes from some distant third world country where he was just snatching the souls from evil men and delivering the innocent back into the hands of those they love, probably less than only 18 hours ago. I learned a lot from this interview and I believe it has much to give the world, the private security community, warriors and Americans alike. It’s with honor that I bring this conversation to light. JOHN NETTLES - Background John Nettles has over 29 years of Military Special Operations experience through his involvement with the U.S. Army Special Forces (Green Berets) and the U.S. Government. He has multiple combat deployments from the first Gulf War, West Africa to recent multiple tours in each theater of Iraq (OIF/OND) and Afghanistan(OEF). John was an Instructor with the U.S. Army Special Forces Sniper Course Level II (SOTIC) as well as the Senior Instructor with the U.S. Special Forces Close Quarters Battle Course (SFAUC). He has trained thousands of US and foreign Special Operations Forces members in marksmanship and tactical skill sets. John has been an Adviser to multiple Special Operations Units within U.S. Special Operations Command as well as the Adviser to the New Zealand Special Air Service (SAS), advising and training in all aspects of Special Operations from tactical to national level areas. EP 30: Branding - How does a private security professional market himself in a digital age?

As a private security professional aiming to have a fruitful career in a digital age there are many considerations and things that should be noted or talked about that can spell success or disaster to an individual’s reputation. If a practitioner is able to market himself effectively, he can deliberately place himself into a situation where his work cycle is no longer feast or famine but rather, he has solid books with a steady flow of clientele or he can get himself discovered by the types of companies and people that can change his life and career with one decision. Conversely, if an agent fails to represent himself correctly or make one or two branding faux pa’s, one can easily find himself and his reputation damaged irreparably and or blackballed from the industry altogether. Always remember that the executive protection community is still very small and it is very easy to find out who’s who in the zoo. Aaron Mouldin is a fellow practitioner I’ve worked with and taken marketing advice from for years, we’ve implemented and discussed many different marketing strategies and ideas and as a result have seen a number of things work and vice versa. Aaron has built a number of different companies and has emerged as a name within the security industry that is recognisable and appreciated. His reputation has helped his personal brand place him in a situation where he is very busy on numerous projects and is no longer chasing work or clients around the private security industry. This is an episode that will give lots of value to those seeking to get into the private security industry, those who are already in the industry and want to make sure they have options. Additionally, professionals who are looking to gain visibility in ways that will help them catch the eyes of employers and clients to improve their professional careers will benefit from this conversation as well.

EP 29: Protection Dogs by T3 - The use of Protection Dogs in Private Security

T3 I’ve never really known too much about K9s or even been really all that interested in working with them but I’ve always respected their tactical applications. Their amazing sense of smell, agility and the very useful psychological effect they have on humans. The K9 is truly man’s best friend in the animal kingdom I believe and so I find it only fitting that they are also helping us achieve our goals in the private security industry. I must admit that I was a bit skeptical and cautious initially learning about some of the concepts these gentlemen are implementing within the private security with these dogs but I must also admit that I was also impressed to hear about their victories and also the capabilities they are bringing to the many security teams out there. Depending on the client’s security needs, it seems a canine can be a somewhat unusual but perfect answer to various security concerns within a larger overall security strategy, conversely for some a canine might actually be all that they need depending on the clients threat level and the sophistication of the security concerns. I might even dare go so far as to say that more people on the planet could benefit from just a protection dog more than that actually need an entire security detail of qualified agents. Not that the dogs are better than agents but there is a demographic out there that is right underneath the ultrarich VIP and just above the wealthy consumer that doesn’t necessarily need a human level of protection but could definitely benefit from all of the canine’s attributes. I had the honor of speaking with Felipe Gonzalez CEO of T3 & Erick Innis Lead trainer and consultant for the company during this episode. I learned a whole bunch and I’m genuinely looking forward to bringing this episode to the industry , enjoy!

EP 28: Who is a modern day warrior?

Rafa Conde is truly an amazing man in my opinion! Many of us do great things during our time on this planet but there are few of us who do great things that really positively impact the lives of others on a large scale or even outside of our own organic sphere of influence. People who deliberately aim to elevate the quality of other people’s lives are people that I truly believe were sent here for a reason and are very special. Rafa is not only a warrior but he’s also one of those types of people and the work he is doing during his time on this earth is speaking for itself and giving men of this forgotten generation something that reminds them to take pride in themselves. With a background in law enforcement, considerable time on the streets in a number of different ways, experience in security and also a heavy journey into martial arts; Rafa and I had no shortage of things to talk about! With Rafa’s brand and podcast “Man of War” he positively influences men of today’s society to rise up as the Warriors they were always destined to be. Ladies, when men are acting as honourable men, everyone wins because there’s more provision and protection for all of us, this episode has something for absolutely everyone is always. This episode turned out to be a fusion of the critical and career advice mixed with warrior code and ancient philosophy that applies to everything we are all doing in life today, ENJOY!

EP 27: Overcoming Violence In the Line Of Duty

Violence teaches all of us so much about who we truly are at our very core. Jared is a man who has been there and has brought that knowledge back through his experiences and has used it all to make him a better police officer, instructor and warrior. Jared Reston is a modern day warrior. Not only for the things he’s accomplished and continues to accomplish every time he goes out on the job and writes a blank check in order to protect and serve the public but also for his mindset, ethos, and paradigm. This episode with him is one for the books. We talk about many things that only someone who has the types of experiences he has can talk about. I feel that conversations like this are truly sacred and I feel absolutely honored that he was willing to open up on the show in this way. I didn’t detect anything flashy or arrogant about him as he spoke about his experiences but what I believe shines through the brightest in our conversation is his humility and that he knows that he’s just a man who was put on this earth to do a hard job and also his dedication to putting himself between evil people and the innocent. I thoroughly enjoyed this episode with Jared and I believe anyone who listens to it will as well. EP 26 : Be the best - Israeli diplomatic security

Dadi is one of those types of men that you meet and you genuinely want to believe that he’s just special, that he simply built from something different and that he naturally has always just been on another level. When you actually speak with him, however, it becomes dramatically apparent that he is extremely down-to-earth and while he definitely is on another level than most and brings with him the types of experiences most of us have only read or dreamed about, he is a very warm, caring and down-to-earth individual. During my time with him in the field, I learned many valuable lessons both about executive protection and about life. He is simply the type of leader I really wish could influence more agents in our field. He was forged in a nation under constant threat and his professional career has the stripes of real-world experience within the protection game. He maintains strict disciplines with regards to his physical fitness, diet and intellectual prowess which gives him a monk-like feel at times and when it is time to work a whole different side to him comes out altogether. I hope that this interview gives the listener the opportunity to benefit from Dadi in ways that will make us all better practitioners in the end. Background: A Homeland Security expert with over 20 years of experience ranging from dignitary protection to aviation and diplomatic security. After a 22-year career in the Israeli prime minister’s office serving in a variety of security and managing positions, Dadi took his expertise to the private sector. He started his career as a special agent in the Israeli dignitary protection unit and moved on to operational and management positions. After serving as Chief Instructor of the Israeli Dignitary Protection Unit, Hewas posted overseas as the Security Manager of Israel's Diplomatic Mission and Aviation in Cairo, Egypt and as the Security Director of the Israeli Aviation in the US West coast. His last position in the Prime minister’s office was head of the branch, in charge of Direction and Regulation of Security overseas Facilities and Diplomatic Missions. Chris Sipe Interview Chris Sipe is a physical security professional, protector, and key leader within his organization and the security industry. He specializesin public figure/high profile personal protective services such as protective operations logistics inthe film studio safety and security sectors. He is currently, managing security and logisticalsupport programs for Netflix Studio’s marketing publicity campaigns as well asother studio focused public-facing special events, globally. Consequentially he’s also a fellow Marine Corps Infantryman and so us grunts were really able to get into step very quickly on this one, good episode! EP 24 : Rune Nation - No One is Coming To Save You

Ian is a firearms instructor who travels all across America training people in a number of different art forms and techniques designed to take human lives. What I like most about him is that he values education very highly, he sees himself as a teacher rather than simply an instructor: stating that the primary difference is simply that a teacher will help you understand while an instructor will simply demonstrate or show you. He has a mind that appreciates and has an affinity for philosophy, history, the psychology behind things such as meditation and various other modes to unlock once personal greatness. Because of these values wewere able to go very deeply into the psychology of training for combat, personal development andprinciples around stopping violence with violence. Ian was a line infantryman in the US Marine Corps with 3/2 (real recognizes real) who also spent time operating in Boston as a bouncer and an Executive Protection Agent. EP 23 N-Ear - The Future of Earpiece Technology

This gear review with Alex was truly a fantastic time but most importantly it was about time. The technology many of us use for our earpieces and surveillance kits has long been outdated. Virtually every other type of your technology we use is much more sophisticated, giving us an actual speaker inside of our years, comfort, durability and dependability on a much higher level than the equipment many of us are actually working with to protect. To be honest I’m honored and genuinely elated to be one of the guys to give this product visibility stateside. The fact that this will increase people’s efficiency and also make work more pleasurable is genuinely very meaningful to me because I put in many long hours with my gear and still do on a daily basis. I do also know that many details in Europe are already running this kit and are very happy with it so we are just now getting caught up in this department. • No more itchy rubber nipple in your ear causing ear fatigue. • No more struggling to hear radio traffic through a tube with a speaker down at the bottom of it. • No more brittle tubes that get clogged up with earwax or leak sound. • No more sacrificing hearing in one of your ears during a protection detail in order to hear your radio. • Now enjoy high-quality stereo sound, without sacrificing the hearing in one of your ears, and being annoyed by your earpiece from one heavy-duty, light weight and high-quality piece of equipment. The stealth 360 system is heavy duty and everything is made out of medical grade equipment. It’s lightweight and its design will make it fit into your ear seamlessly. I know this sounds cliché but you will honestly forget that you are wearing it. Just like every other headset or earbuds you use; the speaker will now be seated right inside your ear for stereo quality sound every single time. Remember that your work product is your calling card so there’s lots to be said for the quality of your gear. When other professionals see that you take yourself seriously and have quality gear, they will take you more seriously and they are also more likely to call you back for follow-on work because you’re leading the pack with cutting edge technology. Invest in yourself and others will not hesitate to invest in you as well. I wouldn’t put my name on it if I couldn’t back it up! You will be very happy with this piece of kit! EP 22 : Surviving an Active Shooter

Active shooter incidents have become a reality of American culture that is relevant to all of us and is not going away anytime soon. According to the, “Gun Violence Archive” a total of 340 mass shooting incidents took place in 2018 which was just slightly less than the 346 mass shootings we saw in 2017. Beyond that a gun is not the only type of human threat that the evil people among us are using to kill the innocent. Vehicle, knife and arson attacks are also becoming more and more frequent here at home. Anytime, anyplace and anywhere you could find yourself in an active human threat situation. Do you know what to do in order to increase your chances of survival? Do family members know how to survive? Is “run, hide, fight” enough and do you know when or how to do what? Do you have a plan or strategy that will work regardless of your environment? What principles increase the probability of survival and possibly even apprehension of the threat in life and death situations like these? If your kids are at school, do they know what to do or how to survive? These are the types of topics that myself and Michael Julian cover din depth during in this episode of EPL. This is one for everyone! send this episode to your friends, family and anyone who you love and want to give a better chance of survival to. EP 21 Private Security Business Ethics

Michael Julian Business ethics will ultimately dictate the success of an individual or a company in any industry in my opinion. Over the years in the military and during my time in the private security profession, I’ve seen people rise and fall based on their business ethics. This law and principal seem to run parallel in every aspect of business, profession and life because both business, professionalism and many different types of success really all depend on relationships. Something that is true and that many people do not consider is simply that relationships are the result of many different common value systems and the aligning of motivations and goals but ultimately the outcome of relationships usually ends up being dictated by the character of the people in the relationship. Business ethics is something that should be heavily studied, considered and understood because just like your character, your business ethics will ultimately decide where you end up at the end of the day. There is no hiding from the inevitability of reparations, results and manifestations in your life that will come about as a result of your character and the professional relationships you are able to keep, maintain and benefit from will be a direct result of the quality of your business ethics. Michael Julian has done many things in the industry but most importantly he has been in the industry successfully operating for a number of years and one of his companies has been up and running for over five decades now. As a professional who investigates workplace crimes on a regular basis and as a successful businessman in our industry, he had some very valuable things to say on the above-mentioned topic. About Michael Julian Michael Julian has worked in the investigations and security profession since 1985 when he began his career working as a surveillance investigator for National Business Investigations, Inc. EP 20 Covert Protection

Ivor Terret My time with Ivor was fantastic as it always is. He is a consummate professional with no need for bravado because he knows his practice and specialties inside and out. With a career that spans well over two decades his kindness and humility is that of a man that genuinely has nothing left to prove besides his drive for contribution and his love for his fellow man. The contribution that I’m most familiar with that Ivor is making is around covert protection strategies and this component of private security is gaining momentum and popularity very quickly. No matter what type of security detail you are currently running I believe there are definitely tools that can be borrowed from this discipline that will simply improve the overall quality of your security strategy. Ivor Bio Ivor Terret, is currently based in Israel, where upon leaving national service in the Israel Defense force and Israeli Police he was selected to help found and architect a government Surveillance Detection and Covert Security Unit tasked with protecting Heads of State and Strategic Sites. Prior to joining the unit, Ivor was the first in South Africa to lead a security organization securing 60 medium to high risk faith related sites in Cape Town. Ivor has designed and implemented security master plans for covert counter terror units, high-risk facilities, protective details and has consulted on a myriad of projects including mass transport hubs, business parks, hotels, residences, high risk facilities and factories. Ivor brings over two decades of international counter terror experience at both the official and private sector levels including instructing hundreds of students from high-risk facility security teams, government covert VIP units, government Surveillance Detection units, hotel security senior management, aviation security personnel and senior management, specialized law enforcement and counter terror units as well as corporate EP and SD units. Ivor met the stringent standards for teaching counter terror security procedures as set forth by the Israeli Police Force and has delivered counter terrorism focused security training to security forces working in high risk areas within Israel. Ivor enjoys public speaking and has presented at London's Counter Terror Expo, numerous occasions at ASIS international conferences and regularly appears as a security expert on international news shows. Ivor holds an MSc in Security and Risk Management from the University of Leicester where he was awarded the esteemed Dissertation of the Year Award for his research. Ivor is the elected Chairperson of the ASIS Israel Chapter for year 2016 and 2017. Questions & Conversation Introduction and background How did you get into this game? EP 19 Human Trafficking Part II

Ed Calderon interview This interview with Ed went to a place that not many of the conversations on this podcast have gone. Because of his time operating in the darkness of Mexico Ed is now enabled to teach the innocent and the protectors of the light how to not only survive but thrive in high threat environments. This interview got dark as we talked about techniques, tactics, principles, trends and patterns used by cartels, criminals, human traffickers and Drug lords South of the border and also within the United States of America. For over a decade Ed Calderon worked in the fields of counter narcotics, organized crime investigation, and public safety in the northern-border region of Mexico. During this period, he also coordinated and worked executive protection details for high-level government officials and visiting dignitaries — often in some of the most dangerous parts of the country. Just to give you some perspective on the human trafficking academic south of the border, here are some numbers published by the Latin Times, Mexico experienced a 245-percent increase in kidnapping between 2003 and 2013. To put hard numbers on that, in 2003, an average of 34 people were released from kidnaps each month. In 2009, that number was up to 96 per month. By 2013 it was 1,162 per month. During this interview Ed fills us in on cartel techniques, tactics and patterns while also helping us understand how to make ourselves and our loved one’s harder targets during our everyday lives.
