Rugby Player Says Cannabis Keeps Her Competitive and Pain-Free

One look at Anna Symonds and you'd never think she'd throw a stiff arm your way to put you down, but she has, and will continue to as her 20-year rugby career continues, though her work as director of education with Oregon-based East Fork Cultivars and Athletes for Care is slowly taking up more of her time. A member of the U.S. Women's Team in the 2015 World Cup, Anna has won four national championships with the Portland Hunters, and she's competed in amateur mixed martial arts (MMA). Needless to say, Len and Jon give Anna plenty of good-natured room and respect on this edition of Everything Is Personal as they chat with her about her career and advocacy on behalf of cannabis use, and learn about the various injuries she's received in two decades of the most immediate of contact sports (she describes it as "tearing your body apart you're trying so hard"), the role cannabis played in her recovery from a violent 2016 car accident, and how cannabis plays a role in her life from relieving pain to relieving stress before a big game day. Jon also reveals his disappointment in just missing out on having Tom Morello as a potential dad pal at his son's school, Len and Jon discuss the current HBO documentary series Allen v. Farrow and whether one can remain a fan of someone's work if they've likely committed awful crimes, and they go over the Notorious B.I.G. documentary "I Got a Story to Tell." All this, plus Have You Heard and Bob from Iowa gets the best answer for "what is rugby" that anyone will ever get, short of a stiff arm to the face.
