Eidolon Playtest

This month, Maxie walks Fabby and Iris through the band that lends Soul Together its name!

The time has once again come for us to begin anew!

This month, Luke and Molly sit down for a preliminary discussion of EIDOLON: Become Your Worst Self, an expansion to EIDOLON 2E! They run through the first batch of Playbooks they've conceptualized, realized that one of them is so non-standard that it might be fully unworkable, and Luke eulogizes the EXTREMELY GOOD AND INTELLIGENT chess mechanic idea he had for an entirely different game!

FOLKS. We've designed a damn tabletop RPG.

In this final Design Session for EIDOLON 2E, we sit down to answer all of your emails to cinch up EVERY REMAINING FLAW in our game; which is to say we spend a lot of time saying "fair argument, listener, but we stand by our decision on this one."

The next draft of the game is going to the text-complete draft used to create the final product! It might take a little extra time to get it edited, but be on the lookout for it sometime in the next couple weeks! After that, we're still finalizing artwork and need to get layout done, so we're not 100% positive when the final product will be available, but it should be sometime this fall!

Come back next month to hear us start work on EIDOLON: Become Your Worst Self, the first expansion to the game!

We are just about finished with Eidolon 2E, and you know what that means: we gotta waste a bunch of time talking about cucking! Or, you know. Bang out a few small issues here and there in preparation of the final draft of the game. Whichever.

Next month... by which i mean, THIS month, will be the final Design Session devoted to Eidolon 2E! If there are ANY lingering issues you have with the game, send them to [email protected], or forever hold your peace!

We're back with another game of Fiasco! This time, we're diving into prohibition-era Chicago! Mobsters! Speakeasies! Questionable tax accountants! Even more questionable hearses!

For a lot of Dumb Scheduling Reasons, this episode got recorded months ago at this point! I don't think anyone involved in its production remembers anything that was said on it anymore! Well, Fabby probably does, because she only recently edited it, but I didn't think to ask her for anything to put in these show notes!

Anyway, enjoy hearing folks talk about Outkast, the source of Quentin's Eidolons and creators of some PRETTY DAMN GOOD MUSIC.

FOLKS. We're gettin' down to it.

This month, we add the Epilogue mechanic, to give characters a proper send-off when they die or retire. We also take a close look at the Bombard Move, and decide to completely rework it! We hit a few other odds and ends along the way, as we get the book closer and closer to the finish line.

Next month, we're giving the Conductor one final once-over, and hitting a few small odds and ends. Get your emails in to [email protected], because we are very close to calling this project complete, and if we have something you think we need to look at, now is the time to speak or hold your peace! Our current plans are for June to be the final Design Session for Eidolon 2E, where we address any lingering questions and do a final round of touch-ups.

[Instrumental]

We're back! Ty shows up partway through and Luke's audio sounds awful because we had a hell of a time getting this episode recorded, but WE'RE BACK. Let's talk about a shitty little bullshit man!

GENERAL CONTENT WARNING: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is often a crass series that incorporates a wide variety of fraught subject matter, and prioritizes using that fraught material for high drama and unconventional action scenes over approaching the subjects with appropriate care or consideration. We'll include more specific content warnings when covering especially rough episodes, but as a baseline, assume that most topics are handled with insufficient levels of sensitivity. Also, JJBA is a show that heavily features bloody violence and body horror.

Just as was prophesied in our previous encoded message, we're back with another Book Club (which we have rebranded on-the-fly to Media Club) to cover the sci-fi movie Contact, directed by Robert Zemeckis. It's a movie that inspired Iris' character, Haley Holst, and she's joined by Fabby, Crystal, and Maxie to talk about its cool cinematography and visual effects, messy handling of religions and skepticism, and downright infuriating romance subplot.

(Hi folks, Luke here. We've had some scheduling conflicts this month, which have unfortunately kept us from getting an episode of Playlist recorded. We initially recorded this for the $10 tier, but we've decided to release it on the $3 tier instead as a mea culpa. Enjoy!)

It's a new year, and we are rapidly getting EIDOLON 2E to the finish line!

In this episode, we hit a smattering of random issues that we want to tackle.

Damage is an important part of this game, and the way the rules are currently written, GMs are perhaps not given enough guidance on when to inflict it. Luke's been bangin' this drum for a while now, and he finally got Molly to go along with him!

We removed the limit on how many times you can Push Yourself, because we though the soft pressure of an oncoming Phantom fight would discourage people from doing it too much. Unfortunately, it turns out that Phantom fights are "cool" and "radical," and people aren't particularly scared of them! Maybe we oughtta change that.

The Downtime system still isn't quite firing on all cylinders. We keep having the bend our own rules to make it work how we want it to. Maybe should just... permanently bend them?

In addition to all that, we also review some of the pitches for Move name punch-ups!
