Summary
Former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for President in 2024, has threatened John Deere with a 200% tariff if the agricultural manufacturer moves production to Mexico. Trump made this threat at a campaign event in Pennsylvania, where he also threatened automakers that manufacture cars in Mexico. Trump believes that moving manufacturing jobs to Mexico hurts American farmers and manufacturing workers. John Deere has announced that it plans to shift production of some of its models to Mexico, a move that has resulted in layoffs at facilities in Iowa. John Deere, however, maintains that it remains committed to US manufacturing and that it is only moving less complex operations to other locations.
