Summary

Travis King, a US soldier, was sentenced to one year of confinement and a dishonorable discharge for deserting the military. He had previously fled to North Korea while on a tour of the Demilitarized Zone. King was detained in North Korea for two months before being released and returned to the US. He pleaded guilty to several charges including desertion, assault, and disobeying an officer. Although King was released from custody, his legal team believes he will face the consequences of his actions for the rest of his life.
