Summary

Ryan W. Routh, a 58-year-old contractor, was arrested for attempting to assassinate former President Donald J. Trump. He was found staking out Trump's golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida with a rifle, equipped with a scope and a loaded chamber. Routh confessed in a pre-written note that he had planned the attack but failed. He was charged with possessing a firearm as a felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Evidence recovered from his vehicle revealed a list of dates and locations where Trump was scheduled to appear, highlighting Routh's premeditation. Law enforcement officials also uncovered details of Routh's extensive criminal history, including a conviction for possessing a weapon of mass destruction.
