Summary

New York City Mayor Eric Adams was indicted on federal charges of accepting bribes and illegal campaign contributions from Turkish nationals. Prosecutors allege that Adams accepted luxury travel perks from Turkey and pressured city officials to allow Turkey's new consulate to open in exchange for favorable treatment. Adams has denied all wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Many city officials have called for his resignation, but Governor Kathy Hochul has indicated that she will review the situation before making a decision. The case has led to political upheaval in New York City and is the first time a mayor has been charged with a federal crime while in office.
