S3 Ep 35Ep. 63: Mr. Sinister's Second-Hand Lobotomy
EHas anyone ever stopped to think about how X-Men is basically just The Real World But With Explosions? Yes, the ever-evolving war between Human and Mutant is interesting or whatever...but it's time we know more about the minutiae of co-habitation with a mutant who has godlike powers. How much hair would be strewn about Beast's apartment? How does Colossus not break every couch he sits on? S3 Ep 34FLAVOR TEXT: The Sandman
EIn November of 1988, DC Comics published the first issue of The Sandman, a revival of a shortly-run series in the 70s of the same name--originally inked by Comics God Jack Kirby. Gaiman's version quickly gained notoriety for its dark and mature themes and its incredibly unique art style. The series has a ton of critical acclaim over time and is to-date only one of a few graphic novels to be featured on The New York Times Best Seller list. Gaiman later went on to write other novels adapted into movies and series you've heard of like Stardust, Coraline, and American Gods. The Sandman represents a series of graphic novels that follow Dream, who is one of the seven "Endless." The Endless are a pantheon of gods who are as powerful and as petty as the ancient Greek Gods. And...man...this shit is as DARK it is METAL. Here's a link to the NSFW images we referred to during the show This episode was commissioned by Brenda Cole, a first-generation member of #buttthwompnation who also happens to be a blood relative to one of our team (you'll never guess who!). S3 Ep 33Ep. 62: The Sovereign Nation of Bob-Omb Battlefield
EMario's world might look like it's all hyper-saturated sunshine and rainbows, but under that candy-coated exterior lie some real sinister themes. Like, while that cartoon-y manta ray boss in Super Mario Sunshine might seem like happy fun at first, it's pretty disturbing when you consider that it's literally a shadow that is slowly devouring all living matter in its wake. That gigantic 8-ft walking bomb might have a silly mustache, but it is also a gigantic 8-ft bomb filled entirely of gunpowder and loose ethics. This week, we take a look at the darker side of some of Mario's more enigmatic boss encounters. Debate This! is now on Patreon, y'all! S3 Ep 31Ep. 61: Pirate Ships Don't Have Feet (ft. SMJ)
EIt was the final days of The Summer of '93. Whitney Houston was topping the charts and the world was absolutely enamored with early-gen CG dinosaurs. Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers suddenly exploded onto our TVs and changed the lives of kids and amateur martial arts enthusiasts everywhere. Fast forward 25 years. Four ordinary thirty-somethings do the unthinkable and conscript their favorite Mega Man bosses to fight off the impending kaiju menace. Yet another summer has passed since that day, and so it's time to conscript a whole new team of heroes to save us. A team of teenagers. A team of teenagers with ATTITUDE. A team of teenagers with attitude who also drive ten-story mechs shaped after our favorite cartoon tropes. S3 Ep 30SIDEBAR: The Real Rhino Was the Friends We Made Along the Way
EAnd here is where we'd talk about the newest MCU movies...if we had one! Today's superhero movie discussion is taking a 180, and so instead of talking about movies to come, we're talking about some of our favorite hated superhero movies from the past. Come on in for some hot takes on Man of Steel, two commercially failed Spider-Man movies, and--of course--more of Matt yelling at us about Ghost Rider. Debate This! is now on Patreon, y'all! S3 Ep 29Ep. 60: My Thirteen Dads
EThere's nothing quite like being a parent. Teaching your child the ways of the world, watching them grow, and passing down a condensed shard of pure magic that can summon the hellish avatar of their departed mother who sacrificed herself to a death cult masquerading as a monotheistic religion! On today's episode, Kyle, Matt, and Todd pass down their fatherly wisdom to their collective son, Andrew, to help him fight off his schoolyard bully with the help of extraplanar demigods from the Final Fantasy series. S3 Ep 28FLAVORtown TEXT: Guy Fieri
EHe's the Sultan of Spice, the Tycoon of Taste, The Crowned-King of Condiments. This week, Debate This! is driving a brightly colored convertible on a one-way trip to Flavortown to talk about The Man and The Myth that is Guy Fieri. This episode is packed so tightly with righteous flavor about our boy that you can put it on a flip-flop. From his early career through his first franchises and beginnings as a celebrity chef, to his current seat on the throne of The Internet's Favorite Person, every second of this episode is lights-out delicious. This episode was commissioned by the one and only Tom Zalatnai, friend of the show and purveyor of fine podcasts such as Up For Discussion and Natural Toonie! S3 Ep 22Ep. 59: Big Mr. I's Spooky Investment Portfolio
EWith Paper Mario: The Origami King coming out later this week, we pulled in our team of expert RPG architects to help build the game's first (and best) DLC. It should also be stated that we refuse to accept truth and continue to tell ourselves that this game is going to be an incredibly crunchy RPG, baked with a deep strategy and complex lore. Knowing that, why not attempt to shove Bugzy from the Kirby series in there as a playable partner? Or what about that elephant from Yoshi's Story who stood there holding a sign in nothing but a diaper? No? Well then, allow us to pitch you retrofitting an entire subplot from Chrono Trigger in there? Totally works. No more questions. Debate This! is now on Patreon, y'all! S3 Ep 25SIDEBAR: Ultra-Intergalatic Cyber Fencer Musashi 2: Battle
EYou know that one game you played as a kid that no one has heard of and if you tried to describe it, it would just sound like a fever dream? We all have those insane gems close to our hearts, and so today's SIDEBAR is all about our personal favorite old-school obscure titles. S3 Ep 24Ep. 58: Real-Time Orphan-Ground Strategy (ft Zak Schneider)
EEvery villain is the hero of their own story. This week, we're flipping the script to place some of the most classic video game villains in the protagonist's seat. What would it play like to hunt Link with Ganon's army? How different would Bioshock be if you instead played as Andrew Ryan? The answer, apparently, is an incredibly crunchy RTS. For more of Zak, check out Around the Monitor on Youtube, Apple Podcasts, and streaming live on Twitch. You can find the latest news and discussion on all things gaming and a wealth of video essays on unique topics like the atmospheric music found in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. S3 Ep 22Ep. 57: Bouncing Around at the Speed of Time
EOooh boy here we go talking about the DC Universe again. We're attempting to being more thunder to this permanant-second-place franchise of characters by injecting them into some wild-ass 16-bit era games. Andrew bounces a rubber child through a magical mini-golf course filled with trees that also have faces, Kyle builds a white hat hacker into AMAZO to fight alongside Digital Mega Man, and Matt discovers that Ecco the Dolphin is the lost Aquaman comic that humanity needed. S3 Ep 21FLAVOR TEXT: Overwatch
EFollow along the episode with our Overwatch image gallery. Even if you've never played Overwatch, you've most definitely heard of it. You've watched it played on TV, you've seen the constant feed of YouTube content, and you've heard your nephew talking about it incessantly before they were "Dabbing a Fortnite". Even though the game is 4 years old, Blizzard's Overwatch is a staple of the eSports community, and is the undeniable king of team shooters. But even if you play this game competitively, chances are you've never heard of the complex story that lives behind all of the emo skeletons and sassy mech drivers. For some reason, Blizzard decided to create a deep and compelling backstory of a robot uprising (naturally), an Avengers-esque team of superheroes, a second robot uprising after the robots realized humanity is flawed (classic), and a talking Science-Gorilla who eats a lot of sandwiches. S3 Ep 20Ep. 56: Concentric Penguin Nipples
EThis week has been especially tough on the country, but also eye-opening for some of us who haven't had to deal with the effects of systemic racism. We've compiled a brief list of some helpful resources with which we can support and educate ourselves. He's big, he's blue, he's probably diabetic and sometimes he's vaguely Creole...that's right, today's episode is all about the Royal Rumbler himself, King Dedede! We ask what would happen if we ram-jammed Dedede into some of the wackiest standalone comic runs to hit the bookshelves, and the answer is it feels...somehow right? Kyle has Dedede fighting alongside Thor in the Marvel Zombies continuity, Todd places Dedede in the center of the Spectacular Spider-Ham universe, and Matt says some things about Joker teaming up with The Mask (yes, THAT "The Mask") that make little sense. S3 Ep 17Ep. 55: Let the Ka-Bodies Hit the Floor
EWith the whole world being stuck at home for whatever reason and sports just, like, not happening, we decided to go some good for once and bring you three of the best lesser-known sports that you can play right now in your backyard. And to stick with the format of our podcast we turned said lesser-known sports into video games. Get ready to carry your partner like a human backpack, furiously whack at a reinforced two-by-four, and chanting "Kabaddi" while you tackle your friends until they pass out! S3 Ep 16SIDEBAR: My Favorite Man-Bear
EGreetings, comrade! The State has granted us the pleasure of introducing you to the Winter Guard, Mother Russia's very own team of superheroes. Yes, you may think that many of our heroes are clones of your American Avengers slapped together with a red color scheme, but we assure you they are very complex and interesting characters. There is also a man that is also sometimes bear. Glory to Siberforce. Debate This! is now on Patreon, y'all! S3 Ep 15Ep. 54: The Fourth Dimension is Fear
EGames like Mario Kart and Action Girlz Racing go zoom, zoom, zoom, and that makes our hearts go boom, boom, boom. This week has us turning beloved franchises and also Seaman into Painfully Elaborate racing titles. And if you don't already see the almost-lifelike face of the Dreamcast's grumpy, misogynist man-fish before you go to sleep at night, you sure will now. Debate This! is now on Patreon y'all! S3 Ep 13Ep. 53: Yippie Ki Yay Mother Bucket
EIt's 3pm on Sunday afternoon, so you know what that means! It's time to watch one of the Lawrence brothers get superpowers and then use them to throw an awesome house party to impress the Popular Girl in the latest Disney Channel Original Movie. And since each one of us has been binging these bad boys on Disney Ploos, you know we had to do another chocolate-in-my-peanut-butter mashup. Today we are rewriting some of the more classic DCOMs with Marvel characters. Presenting for your ear pleasure: The 13th Year starring Namor, Gamora: Girl of the 21st Century, and a version of Smart House where Katey Segal is swapped out with Ultron. S3 Ep 12FLAVOR TEXT: Animorphs
EIt's 1996. You wake up, rip off your Space Jam bed sheets and get ready for school while Power Rangers plays in the background. Normally, this is a drag but today is special. Today is Scholastic Book Fair Day. You walk into your classroom with a ripe $5 bill that your mom handed you like it's a Get Out Of Jail Free card. You walk into the gymnasium to find a Moroccan street market of books and other brightly colored school supplies. One jewel in particular has caught your eye this month. You see a cover sporting some choice computer-illustrated animation (like in Beast Wars but even cooler) but of a boy your age transforming into a lizard! Welcome to Animorphs, the mid-90s YA novel series about identity disorder, loss, clinical depression, and PTSD...all centered on a group of shape-shifting teens fighting a secret proxy war against invading alien parasites. S3 Ep 11Ep. 52: Everything Changed After the Chili Wars
EToo often we've witnessed countless whirlwind romances take flight atop the Empire State Building and have watched too many supervillains blow up the Golden Gate Bridge. It's time for other lesser-known American cities to get their time in the spotlight. And so the head engineers at Debate This! Games, Ltd. are designing some of the cities in which we've lived into the next greatest AAA video game. Yinz guys want to drive Crazy Taxi-style dahn the Parkway? How about an open-world RPG themed around independent chili vendors? And is Daytona Beach just its own version of a zombie apocalypse? S3 Ep 10Ep. 51: The Myst Was Inside of Us the Whole Time (ft. Nathan Norman Brandt and Kam Konek)
EGet ready to get Fully Immersed. If there is one thing that we love to do here at DT! HQ, it's reboot old shit that nobody asked for. And so it stands to reason that VR games were bound to eventually get that treatment. Excited to get an 1800s-era poop disease in Oregon Trail VR? Or how about experiencing a lifelike barrel roll in Star Fox 64 3? No? Well then maybe reading low-poly books in a new Myst game? Driving a mech in a first-person Armored Core sequel? OK yeah, that last one actually sounds pretty rad. Subscribe to The New Entertainment System Podcast to hear more of Nathan and Kam! S3 Ep 9SIDEBAR: David Harbour Is My Real Dad
EThe MCU's Phase 4 is still shrouded in mystery as we stare down the proverbial barrel of major releases of the standalone Black Widow movie and Disney Plus's first streaming series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Also Sony is doing a Morbius movie that no one asked for. And we'll be ending 2020 with WandaVision and The Eternals Starring A Very Steamy Kumail Nanjiani. Today, we're going to take some time to talk about what we know so far and where we think some of these franchises are headed. DISCLAIMER: This episode was recorded before a national emergency was declared, and we've all since come to understand that some of the release dates discussed are most likely subject to change. These are very weird times, so please make time for your own mental health, safe healthy, and be wary of misinformation. Distractions are good things in situations like this and sometimes it's easier to just focus on how jacked Kumail Nanjiani got for The Eternals. Suggested Reading What is an "Eternal?" S3 Ep 8Ep. 50: Tony The Jet The Hawk's Xtreme Gear Giveaway
EWow, Episode 50, huh? Here we are...a little bit older, a little bit collectively balder, and most likely a lot closer to death! So what better way to celebrate two years of pouring through the recesses of fan wikis then to return to the greatest fan Wiki ever: Sonic The Hedgehog. S3 Ep 7Ep. 49: Quadrifolium of Love
EWith DC's Birds of Prey And Then Harley Quinn Is Here Too hitting the Box Office this month with the sound of a thousand missed opportunities, we thought it would be a good time to reflect on the history of the series. And by that, we mean 2002's cancelled The WB drama, "Birds of Prey." And by that, we mean actually just pitch adaptations of other, better franchises to get their own sexy teen prime time drama. How about Dexter's Lab, but in high school? Or Power Rangers living in an apocalyptic world? And who doesn't want a healthy dose of marital infidelity with The Flintstones? Debate This! is a dumb show where grown men yell at each other over video games and comics. S3 Ep 6SIDEBAR: I'm Here to Talk to You About the Smash Bros Initiative
EThree grown men spent Valentine's Day together watching a children's movie about Sonic the Hedgehog, and now we're going to talk about it. But here's the thing you guys...this movie is legitimately GOOD. Like, not even so-bad-it's-good like The Room. We actually enjoyed ourselves just about the entire time through this thing. Todd enjoyed it so much that he went to try and recreate that biker bar fight scene, so he died. So here are Matt and Andrew giving you their hot takes on Paramount's Sonic The Hedgehog. S3 Ep 5Ep. 48: Don't Worry, the Radioactive Jeans are Non GMO (ft. Randy Hardenbrook)
EWith the decline in cable TV viewers (and a few notorious legal "uh-ohs") comes the inevitable decline of the glory and majesty that is the television pitchman. To to inject some new life into this fading empire, we're calling in some A-list superheroes and also Paste-Pot Pete to hawk their latest and greatest Made For TV products. Special thanks to Randy Hardenbrook from Canned Air for joining in on a pitch! The Canned Air podcast is a tribute to all things pop culture, like toys, games, and comics. S3 Ep 4Ep. 47: The Most Beautiful Bee in Uranus (ft David Flamm)
EOnce Sonic heralded in the 1990s with his cool-guy, take-no-shit attitude, game companies across the world were racing to find the next raddest platforming mascot. And boy were there a lot more misses than hits. With the help of David Flamm from Left Trigger Right Trigger, we rifle through some of the best of those misses and attempt to breathe new life in these needlessly horny misfits. Check out Dave's work with Left Trigger Right Trigger, a biweekly video games book club. S3 Ep 3FLAVOR TEXT: The Witcher (Pt. 1)
ESPOILER ALERT: This episode will spoil the story and ending to the first season of Netflix's The Witcher. But if you haven't played the CDPR games yet, don't worry! The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt takes place several years after the events of the books and therefore is its own storyline. It was bound to happen. As soon as someone uttered "...place of power, gotta be" on this show, it was destined that we would one day be uploading an episode where Andrew "ummm actually"s everyone through each of the books in The Witcher series. Well that day has finally arrived! And with the release of the fantastic Netflix adaptation, we decided to focus this episode on the first two books, which are actually a collection of several short stories that set up this universe. We're taking you through each of the short stories found in "The Last Wish" and "Sword of Destiny," and then comparing how those stories are represented in the Netflix show. S3 Ep 2Ep 46: Just a Couple of Smashboys Pumping Out Smash Mouth
EComing at you HOT here in 2020, we here at Debate This! are the only ones brave enough to discuss the toughest questions life throws at us. Who are we? Why are we here? How does Southwest actually determine who gets priority seating? But there's one question that has plagued humanity for centuries...which of the Tetris pieces is the best Tetris piece? One of those questions definitely gets answered today, and also the other 55 minutes are mostly incoherent but relevant to the plot we swear. S3 Ep 1Update and Season 3 Preview
EKyle found a "like new" set of plastic drums on Facebook Marketplace so we're taking this week off to workshop our new Debate This! Rock Band rock band. And since we'll be knee-deep in practicing Green Grass and High Tides, we wanted to give you all a quick update and preview into some of the new stuff you can expect from the show in 2020. Thanks for listening, nerds!
S2 Ep 39Ep. 45: Three Inches Is All You Need
EIt's the Annual Non-Denominational Winter Holiday Season! And what better way to celebrate than to shower each other with more unnecessary and very non-recyclable plastic goods? For our second year, the Debate This! boys are gathering around the Winter Solstice Plant and are bringing more of the most ridiculous gaming peripherals. Ever want to play driving games with an iPod click wheel? How about a Rock Band controller that looks like Paul McCartney's guitar and costs about the same as Paul McCartney's guitar but is still just a Rock Band controller? And you KNOW you want to play your third-person shooters with a seemingly-real plastic chainsaw! Debate This! is a dumb show where grown men yell at each other over video games and comics. S2 Ep 38DLC EPISODE: Forborgurf and the Office Drones Do a Dungeon
EEarlier this year, we birthed an office-based MMORPG from our terrible mind-holes, complete with stereotypical office jobs mapped onto traditional RPG roles. And since it's now a legal requirement that every registered podcast in 2019 record a D&D session, allow us to present to you an office-based D&D campaign. Who wants boring old swords and magic when you can fight your enemies with timelines and bureaucratic red tape?! S2 Ep 37Ep. 44: A Rear Without a Santa Claus
EFollowing the announcement that Sakurai and his team are releasing more DLC characters for Smash Ultimate in 2020, everyone out there has been speculating who they think the next additions will be. We could certainly do that for you, but it takes a much bolder team of content creators to instead tell you who they think will NOT be the next DLC characters in Smash Ultimate. And God help us if they make fighters out of Longhorn from 18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker, Bad Mr Frosty from ClayFighter, and Gooigi, an obvious pervert. S2 Ep 36Ep. 43: Betrayal is the Free Space
EDuring this year's Portland Retro Gaming Expo, we polled the crowd with a very important question: Which classic arcade game deserves a gritty modern-day RPG? The top 3 of the 4 choices we polled during the weekend are all in play, so it's totally not our fault that now you won't be able to stop thinking about breeding giant ostriches and hunting Q-Bert: The World Eater. S2 Ep 35FLAVOR TEXT: Marvel Secret Wars
EDo you think the people at Marvel back in the 80s would ever have thought that their one-off concept of "make everyone fight each other on an alien planet" would go on to be the single most important thing to happen in the Marvel universe? And that this one storyline would be the thing that retconned, redefined, and completely undid multiple series more than 15 years in the making? This week's FLAVOR TEXT is giving you the entire Secret Wars saga, a notorious storyline that started as a flimsy excuse to sell more toys to being the actual most ambitious crossover event in Marvel history. S2 Ep 34Ep. 42: Why is Muk So Horny? (ft Will Grant)
EThe release of Pokemon Sword and Shield is just days away. And, instead of adding to the controversy, we are doing what we usually do and avoid confrontation altogether. So instead, we decided to mash up the worlds of the WWE together with Pokemon to give you the all-new Professional Pokemon Wresting League. Ground Rules: No Legendaries and no Fighting Types. Special thanks to our guest, Will Grant, for joining in this Pokemon smack down! Will is one-half of Blasting Off Again, a Pokemon anime watch-along podcast by The Upford Network. S2 Ep 33Ep. 41: Snakes on the Plain
EOne half of our podcast really likes The Witcher and the other half is Matt and Kyle. So for our final stop on 2019's Spooktacular Express, we are going to explore the absolute horror that is living as a greasy villager in the Witcher universe. Andrew roleplays as the insufferable person who "read the books first," Kyle unleashes the hounds of hell, and Matt cobbles together puns on puns on puns. Debate This! is a dumb show where grown men yell at each other over video games and comics. S2 Ep 32FLAVOR TEXT: Five Nights at Freddy's
EFive Nights at Freddy's. The Internet sensation that started as a simple game about creepy mascots and jump scares has spawned no less than 8 games, 3 novels, and an infinite amount of YouTube videos conjecturing its very complicated story. There are a lot of people out there digging through the games' code and trying to tie together every piece of dialog and bring meaning to every (seemingly) meaningless mini-game. Fortunately, Matt is one of those crazy people and our gift from him to you this Halloween season is to shove all this conjecture and supposition into your brain, much like one would forcibly shove a smelly night janitor into the rusted exoskeleton of an off-brand pizza mascot to acquire that sweet, sweet soul goo that lives inside all of us. S2 Ep 31Ep. 40: No Quid Pro Quos in Mephisto's Realm
EBefore Nic Cage donned the flaming skull of Ghost Rider, the Spirit of Vengeance has inhabited many bodies, dating all the way back to the Stone Age. Since we didn't want the goofiest iteration of Ghost Rider to be a boy on a wooly mammoth, we decided to mash this universe together with Mario Kart to bring you some flaming skulls with your red shells and your banana peels. Todd pitches a Parakoopa with a violent past, Kyle gets metal with a frowny-faced Lakitu, and Andrew holds a different argument with a Shy Guy on a pogo stick. S2 Ep 30SIDEBAR: Video Game Creepypastas Vol. 3
ECNN told us not to see Joker this weekend, so instead we're diving back into the spooky, scary well that is video game creepypastas! This year, we're bringing you two more stories curated from the best of amateur creative writing on the internet. First up is a story about a game called "Misfortune" hidden inside other classic Game Boy cartridges. After that, a tale about a Super Mario World rom hack that takes the player on a very dark mind trip. Debate This! is a dumb show where grown men yell at each other over video games and comics. S2 Ep 29Ep. 39: Tom Nook's Strungle in the Jungle (ft. Tom Zalatnai)
EFor the first stop as part of this year's Spooktacular Express, we're going to visit the delightful and whimsical world of Animal Crossing, where everyone is always happy, smiling, and certainly not murdered. So imagine our surprise when our passengers' visit was cut short by the news that Mayor Tortimer's dead body was found floating in the river covered in stab wounds. And it's up to us to find the killer. Special thanks to our guest moderator, and all-around wonderful human Tom Zalatnai! Do you like an open discussion forum and improv comedy? Check out Up For Discussion. And there's no way you aren't gonna love Blasting Off Again, his Pokemon series watch-along. Ever feel the need to explore every single episode of Frasier? They're Calling Again is just that! You can listen to all of Tom's work at upfordnetwork.com, and wherever you download podcasts. S2 Ep 28Episode 38: The Spirit of the Baltimore Ravens Is To Win
EMetal Gear Solid is a very silly game. Please bear that in mind while we explain the premise of this week's episode is that the military has decided that it's somehow up to us to stop all the biggest, baddest bosses of the MGS series by unleashing a single Kirby to lead us to victory. So now instead of a flame crown or ice breath, Kirby is going to acquire psychic powers, four tentacle arms, and a really big gun. Debate This! is a dumb show where grown men yell at each other over video games and comics. S2 Ep 27SIDEBAR: The MCU and the Multiverse of Madness
EWith Tony Stark gone, Captain America having Back-to-the-Future'd himself, and Spider-Man facing off against the villainy that is the Sony Pictures Legal department, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to undergo some massive changes. Following the recent announcements during San Diego Comic-Con and Disney's D23 Expo, the boys felt it was time to regroup and talk about those reveals and what we see for the future of the franchise. S2 Ep 26Ep. 37: How Many Yards Are In a Yeet?
EOur boy Link has recovered a lot of equipment in the form of treasure throughout the years. From bombs to arrows to slingshots, his arsenal is a veritable tool belt for adventuring. So this week, we ask: What if you could take only one of Link's items on a deserted island? Todd stands by the grabby/pointy Hookshot, Andrew builds a block-based economy with the Cane of Somaria, and Kyle fus-ro-dahs coconuts into the horizon with the Deku Leaf. S2 Ep 25Ep. 36: You Merely Adopted Corporate Synergy, I Was Born Into It (ft Jeramy Kahle)
ELinkedIn has told us that, as Millennials, we're always looking for the next "big thing" in our career paths. The "thing" could be a bigger paycheck, more fulfilling work, or to follow in the footsteps of an enigmatic leader with an idealistic vision. But what if, instead of trolling Talent Management Managers on social media, we instead decided to hitch our proverbial wagons to the dynamic leaders among Batman's rogues gallery of villains? Yeah...that might not have been the right call. Special thanks to Jeramy Kahle of Canned Air for joining us in this weird team interview process! If you like comics and pop culture (and we bet you do!), then check out their show at cannedairpodcast.com. S2 Ep 24FLAVOR TEXT: Neon Genesis Evangelion
ENERV. The Evas. Human Instrumentality. ADAM. This week's FLAVOR TEXT dives into the twisted psyche of one of the most influential anime series of all time, Neon Genesis Evangelion! Now that the complete series has re-dubbed for streaming on Netflix, we're taking the opportunity to evangelize this masterpiece by shoving each and every psychosomatic plot beat down your collective brain-throats. Also there's a penguin and his name is Pen-Pen. Links to the Angels image gallery and the Evangelion Units image gallery referenced during this episode. S2 Ep 23Episode 35: The Ballad of Sad Brent
EBefore Guitar Hero taught the world about Dragonforce and before Dance Dance Revolution brought us Darude, there was only one game series defined by its licensed music. And that series is Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Everyone has fond memories of grinding rails and doing siiick reverse indy nosebones skating to Goldfinger's Superman. Or how about kickflipping a 520 ollie and wallplanting while Powerman 5000 blares in the background? A 360 shove it to a benihana and Primus is playing? Are these even words? What the hell were we all thinking back then? Check out more incessant arguments at www.debatethiscast.com and keep the conversation going by following us on social media @debatethiscast.
S2 Ep 22Episode 34: Oops! All Holy Wars
EWe've talked at length about many of the horrors implicated by the crazy-pants world of Pokémon. But one of the most horrifying implications is the idea that a 10-year-old child could hold the power to destroy the fabric of time and space itself literally in their pocket. These are literal gods who should be worshipped, not thrown in a box waiting to be taught Cut. So this week, our team of seasoned Poké-Theologists are presenting their bids for our new Pokémon God who isn't Arceus...because Arceus is literally the Pokémon Christian God. S2 Ep 21DLC EPISODE: The Antagonist Altercation (ft. David Flamm)
EWhat's up #bazinganation?! Your favorite The Big Bang Theory debate-themed podcast is back for what might be the last time! We recorded this episode days before the TBBT finale, so before we knew what actually happened we speculated on how Sheldon would finally bite the bullet. Will he be murdered for his insensitivity or just pulled back into the Gates of Hell to resolve the pact he made with the demon long ago? Thanks to David Flamm and the rest of our friends at Left Trigger Right Trigger for letting us be a part of the finale of their improvisational science-fiction audio drama, Fullmetal Bazinga. Every episode of this beautiful experiment is available now wherever you download podcasts.
