Days of Future Podcast: Examining the X-Men
179 episodes — Page 3 of 4
76 - X-Predictions
After a holiday break, we're back to ring in the new year, with a whole batch of predictions for 2018. What do we believe will happen in the world of X-MEN (the movies, books, and TV) this year? Listen on to find out. But first, discussion of the new EXILES comic series, how the recent T.J. Miller controversy might affect DEADPOOL 2, and some late recasting in LEGION season 2. Plus, talk of BACK TO THE FUTURE, THE X-FILES, THE BOONDOCK SAINTS, cold weather, and our thoughts on STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI. Because it might be a new year, but this is still the same tangent filled show! Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
75 - Dark Phoenix Redux
On this episode, we take a look at the newly released Entertainment Weekly issue that...WAIT, HOLY CRAP, THAT DISNEY DEAL IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING. That's right, after an episode in which we dismissed talks of Disney buying 20th Century Fox as probably just rumors, we now face a reality where it looks to be an almost certainty. So we revisit this discussion, analyzing the repercussions for both the X-MEN movie franchise and the entertainment landscape in general. Why are so many X-MEN fans excited about this? Should they be? We offer our thoughts, which might surprise many. THEN, we look at the Entertainment Weekly issue that offers our first sustained look at X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX, which might now be the final film in this iteration of the franchise. We've been pretty ambivalent about this movie since it was first announced - did these first official images and story details change our minds? Plus, talk of new allegations involving Bryan Singer, the newly announced scripted Wolverine podcast, and the NEW MUTANTS theatrical poster. All this and more, in perhaps our most contentious episode ever. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
74 - Franco, Franco, Franco (and even more Franco)
In this special Thanksgiving-themed episode (kinda?), we give thanks for a whole bunch of new X-MEN movie news to discuss. First, we discuss the just announced casting of Lizzy Caplan in the upcoming GAMBIT movie (which, of course, stars Channing Tatum). Who is Caplan playing? Most signs point to Remy's estranged ex-wife Belladonna, but what about the speculation that she could actually be the new cinematic Rogue? We give our thoughts. Then, we share our (complicated?) reaction to the new DEADPOOL 2 "teaser." And we also ponder the surprising announcement of the development of a MULTIPLE MAN movie, starring James Franco. Where the heck did this one come from? Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
73 - X-Mouse: Disney vs. the X-Men
In this episode, we discuss the recent rumors of Disney buying 20th Century Fox, and what it would mean for the X-MEN franchise in particular. Would it be a good or bad thing for Marvel's merry mutants? What kind of films would we expect to see? And how easily would the X-MEN franchise fit into the existing MCU? We examine all of these questions, as well as each share the three X-MEN movies we would greenlight first if WE were allowed to shepherd the franchise into the MCU. But first, we share our thoughts on the recent Hollywood controversy swirling around X-MEN director/producer Bryan Singer, and what it means for us fans of the franchise. Plus, we take a look at the announcement of a brand new X-Men monthly comic series, starring a classic returning character; we discuss the brand new DEADPOOL 2 poster; and we give our take on former X-Men writer Brian Michael Bendis jumping from Marvel to DC. Also, we give our brief THOR: RAGNAROK review. All this, and more! Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
72 - Halloween III: Season of the Robo-Frankenstein
In our third annual Halloween special, we're taking a look at a spooky-scary X-Men oddity from 1968. No doubt inspired by the monster craze of the time, issue 40 of the initial X-MEN run sees the original team doing battle with none other than Frankenstein's Monster. But is this monster truly the same creature from Mary Shelley's novel, or something else entirely? And, perhaps more importantly, who is the REAL monster of the story...Frankenstein's Monster, or Professor X?? Join us for a page by page breakdown of this frightening (not really) X-Men adventure. But first, we try to remember what exactly we talked about on our previous Halloween specials, discuss recent news about an X-23 script being developed, and offer our suggestions for some unique, unexpected X-Men Halloween costumes. All this and more, in the spookiest episode of the year! Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
Bonus Episode - Marvel's The Inhumans: Audio Commentary
It's Trev & Joe vs The Inhumans, on a special bonus episode of Days of Future Podcast. That's right, we're temporarily putting aside Marvel's merry mutants to instead focus on their would-be successors, as we record a live audio commentary while watching - for the first time - the much maligned pilot episode of ABC's Marvel's THE INHUMANS TV series. Could it really be as bad as the hype suggests? We aim to find out. NOTE: This is less a screen-specific commentary, and more a document of two guys being very confused about what they are seeing. We can't guarantee this is one of our best episodes...but if you've ever wanted to hear us baffled and close to losing our minds, this might be the episode for you. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
71 - The Gifted X-Change
We've seen FOX's new X-Men TV series, THE GIFTED, and we're here to report back on the x-perience. With FX's LEGION setting a high standard for X-related TV, and multiple questions surrounding its timeline and characters, does this new weekly take on Marvel's merry mutants live up to its full potential? Find out our thoughts, in an in-depth discussion of the first two episodes. But first, a look at the brand new trailer for Josh Boone's THE NEW MUTANTS, excitement over Ta-Nehisi Coates working on an upcoming Storm ongoing title, and - in a long awaited and eagerly anticipated new edition of "Chatting Tatum" - we discuss the announcement of a new GAMBIT director AND a new official release date. All this, plus talk of BLADE RUNNER 2049, and a way too long tangent about pizza. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
70 - ResurrXion Rundown
With Trev finally caught up on the X-Men comics universe, it's a perfect time for him to share his thoughts on the new batch of titles that were launched as part of Marvel's "X-Men ResurrXion" event. X-MEN: GOLD, X-MEN: BLUE, GENERATION X, WEAPON X, JEAN GREY, ICEMAN, CABLE, and ASTONISHING X-MEN - Trev gives his complete breakdown of the good and bad of each title, as well as his overall take on the current state of the X-Men comic franchise. But first, discussion of Olivia Munn potentially leaking a major bit of X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX news, and the rumored GAMBIT plot synopsis. Plus, Trev & Joe pay their respects to the recently departed Len Wein, the creator of Wolverine and without a doubt one of the most important creators in X-Men history. All this, and much more! Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
69 - Joss Whedon's X-stonishing X-Venture
With geek icon Joss Whedon recently in the news for...well, let's just say "reasons," there's probably no better time than now to re-examine his classic X-Men epic, the Eisner Award winning "Astonishing X-Men." In 2004, in the wake of Grant Morrison's groundbreaking "New X-Men" run, Marvel was looking for another superstar writer to take the reins of their merry mutants, and bring the X-Men back to a more classic direction. Enter the BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER creator Whedon, who - along with incredible artist John Cassaday - delivered one of the biggest and most beloved runs of the franchise ever. Now, Trev & Joe look back at Whedon and Cassady's entire "Astonishing X-Men" run, re-visiting each of the four main story-lines, how they feel about the arc's classic moments (including an unforgettable resurrection), and which characters they feel Whedon handled particularly well. Plus, some discussion of how recent revelations about Whedon the man might influence how fans now regard this and other Whedon works. But first - talk of Jessica Chastain's recent bombshell that she is NOT playing Lilandra in X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX (including speculation of who she must be playing instead), rumors of Fox being unsure of Simon Kinberg's directorial skills, and the big news that Drew Goddard will write and direct the now confirmed X-FORCE movie. All this, and more! Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
68 - Premium Cable
Trev and Joe are finally back with a brand new episode, to share their thoughts on the first pictures of Josh Brolin as Cable (one of Joe's favorite characters, and a character that Trev is certainly aware of!). Do the pictures live up to expectations? The guys give their take, as well as offer those less aware of Cable a brief refresher on his origins, and examine why him and Deadpool make such a compelling duo in the comics. But first, some discussion about the recent tragedy on the set of DEADPOOL 2, speculation about Jennifer Lawrence's role in X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX, and, in a long-awaited new installment of "Chatting Tatum," a look at recent comments from Channing Tatum about the current status of GAMBIT. Also, thoughts on the recent season of GAME OF THRONES, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, and a surprising amount of talk about the classic Paul Rudd/Seann William Scott vehicle ROLE MODELS. Why? Why not? Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
67 - Comic Conned
With Trev back from San Diego Comic Con, we discuss the X-related aspects of the event. What does the lack of X-Men movie announcements from Fox say about the state of the franchise? Did the second trailer for THE GIFTED do a better job selling the show? And what did Trev learn about the upcoming X-Men comics at the Resurrxion panel? All these questions answered, and more. Plus, we take a look at the first picture of Zazie Beetz as Domino in the upcoming DEADPOOL 2, and Joe shares his thoughts on the "End of Greys" Uncanny X-Men storyline starring Rachel Grey. Also, some talk of the early INHUMANS TV show reviews (spoiler alert: it ain't pretty), and some brief discussion of WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER and the magic of Kyle MacLachlan. This episode's intro/outro music: "X-Men Pool Party," by Kirby Krackle. 66 - X-Men: First Class Audio Commentary
In the long awaited new installment of our commentary series, Trev & Joe are joined by good buddy (and fellow X-Nerd) Tom, to provide a running audio commentary for Matthew Vaughn's X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. In the wake of X3 and X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, a lot of fans had written the franchise off by the time this prequel/reboot was announced. However, Vaughn's film turned out to be just the shot in the arm the series needed at the time. What exactly makes this film work so well, and why does it still remain one of the most unique and special entries in the franchise? Join us as we watch the film and x-plore those very questions. As usual with our commentaries, watching along with us is recommended, but certainly not required. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
65 - What Will the Fox Say?
With San Diego Comic Con right around the corner, we spend the bulk of this episode trying to predict what X-Men movie news and announcements Fox will possibly make during their big panel. We also give our guesses on what we'll actually be seeing on each of the mysterious, recently announced Fox-Marvel movie dates over the next few years. But first, apologies over a mistake from last episode, and our reaction to recent rumors regarding Magneto's role in the upcoming X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX. Plus, some discussion about Alice Braga replacing Rosario Dawson as Cecilia Reyes in the NEW MUTANTS movie, and what this says about the larger issue regarding representation in Hollywood films. Also, Trev shares his thoughts on SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, we examine the unfortunate INHUMANS trailer, and we pay our tributes regarding the passing of Joan Lee, the wife of X-Men creator Stan Lee. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
64 - You're In Our House (of M) Now
Join us for a special look at the 2005 Marvel event, HOUSE OF M, which brought together the Astonishing X-Men and New Avengers for an epic tale involving Marvel's heroes stuck in an alternate reality where mutants are the majority, and Magneto is earth's ruler. How did this happen? What were the ramifications? And does the story hold up even today? All of this and more is discussed. But first, we open up another fan-sent package, and share our thoughts on physical comic collecting. Then we discuss our thoughts on Dazzler appearing in X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX, as well as the other rumored new characters and what their additions might mean for the movie. Plus, some PLANET OF THE APES talk, because what's an episode of Days of Future Podcast if we don't go a little off topic? Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
63 - Wonder X-Women
WONDER WOMAN is the talk of the nerd world, and since we are nothing if not opportunists, we thought we'd join in, with a special look at the incredible women of the X-MEN world. We each share our personal Top 5 female X-characters, as well as discuss which female characters deserve their own movie, and shine a special spotlight on Louise Simonson, one of the most underappreciated creators in X-MEN history. But first, we discuss which two famous actresses are allegedly being pursued to play Lilandra in the upcoming X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX, and try to figure out why Simon Kinberg has STILL not been officially announced as the director. Plus, more talk of NEW MUTANTS casting and controversy. We also give our thoughts on what attractions an X-MEN theme park could possibly include, and Trev briefly reviews the WONDER WOMAN movie. Also, talk of the old PETE & PETE show, for the ten other people who remember that. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
62 - Demon Bear With Us
After a brief hiatus, We're back to discuss all the X-MEN news that broke over the last few weeks. First, a look at the recent trailer for the FOX TV series, THE GIFTED...which despite its bland name, IS an X-Men show! Then, we look at the continued lack of news regarding the X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX movie, but address some potentially disheartening news about certain returning cast members. Trev then shares his quick thoughts on the new LOGAN blu-ray, including his opinion of the black-and-white LOGAN NOIR version of the film. Next, we take a look at the casting of the DEADPOOL 2 villain, and ponder the pros and cons of the rumored character he is playing. And then, we examine Josh Boone's recent comments regarding the NEW MUTANTS movie, which apparently will be the X-franchise's first pure horror film. Does this mean we will soon be seeing the Demon Bear? And what does this mean for the film? Plus we give our thoughts on GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, as well as talk of JOSIE & THE PUSSYCATS, TWIN PEAKS, Chris Evans' handsomeness...and Trev pitches a new Portland-set X-Men comic book. All this, and somehow still more. We're back, baby. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
61 - Long Dark Phoenix of the Soul
"The Dark Phoenix Saga." It is arguably the most famous and beloved X-Men story of all time, and it is also apparently the source material for the next X-MEN movie...an often predicted and now seemingly confirmed do-over of the first attempt at translating the classic story in X-MEN: THE LAST STAND. What is it about this story? Why do Fox and the X-MEN filmmakers believe is necessary to revisit it now? And is this truly the best time to try it again? We examine all of these questions and more, as we discuss X-MEN: THE DARK PHOENIX and the fallout of the title announcement. Also, talk of the other recent news regarding NEW MUTANTS and DEADPOOL 2, and the first official photo of ABC's upcoming INHUMANS series. Plus, most importantly, Trev takes an incredibly well-researched Buzzfeed quiz which uses food choices to reveal which X-Men villain he is. All this, and more! Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
60 - Agents of L.O.G.A.N.
First, BREAKING NEWS. The moment is finally here. After over a year of rumors and speculation, we finally have an official casting for Cable, in the upcoming DEADPOOL 2. That's right - stepping into the role of Scott Summer's time-traveling soldier son is Jonah Hex himself, Mr. Josh Brolin. What do we think of this surprising announcement? Listen on and find out. Then, some discussion of the recent controversy regarding apparently racist Easter eggs hidden in the art of X-MEN: GOLD # 1, a story that threatened to completely overshadow Marvel's otherwise so far well-received relaunch of the X-Men universe. And, in our main event, we take a look at the classic two-part Wolverine story "Enemy of the State" and "Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.," (Wolverine Vol. 3, issues 20 - 31) by writer Mark Millar and artist John Romita Jr. In this 2005 tale, our boy Logan is captured and brainwashed by the combined forces of Hydra and the Hand, and sent on a mission that puts him in direct conflict with numerous heroes of the Marvel universe. It's a globe-trotting tale featuring Elektra, Nick Fury, The Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Captain America and more. How does a story about an "evil Wolverine" still manage to highlight what makes him one of the coolest heroes around? We answer that, and more, in an in-depth review. All this, plus some quick thoughts on the new MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000, and the just dropped STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI teaser trailer. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
59 - Legion Aired
With the first season now officially in the record books, we take a look back at the FX series, LEGION. How does it compare to other superhero television shows? Was it an effective X-Men adaptation? What performances were the most memorable? And what did that crazy mid-credits scene from the finale actually mean? All this and more, as we dissect the entire season. NOTE: Spoilers abound, so don't listen if you haven't seen the show yet and want to go in cold. First, though, we talk about the recent rumors of Michael Shannon being the front-runner for Cable, reflect on what might have been if Brad Pitt had gotten the role, and speculate on what to make of the lack of X-Men movie news from Cinemacon. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
58 - Hugh, Me, & Zazie
It's now two weeks since its release, but we've still got LOGAN fever! Having reviewed the movie in our last episode, we thought this time we should talk more about the man of the moment himself, Hugh Jackman. In this tribute to the man who was Wolverine, we share our memories of first seeing Jackman as Wolverine way back in 2000, and then discuss how important he has been both to the X-MEN franchise and to comic book movies in general. We also pick our favorite Wolverine moments from each of his nine movies in the role, and even reveal our favorite non-X-MEN Jackman performances. It's a total Hugh Jackman love fest. But first, we give our thoughts on the casting of Zazie Beetz as Domino in DEADPOOL 2, the potential title of the upcoming FOX X-Men show, LEGION being renewed for a second season, and - on the comics front - the announcement of a new ASTONISHING X-MEN book. Also, in honor of St. Patrick's Day, we discuss everyone's favorite Irish mutants: Banshee, Siryn, and Black Tom Cassidy. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
57 - Old Man Jackman: The LOGAN Review!
17 years ago, an unknown Aussie by the name of Hugh Jackman took on what seemed an impossible task: to breath life into the most popular X-Men character, in the franchise's very first live-action adaptation. His interpretation not only made him a star, but would go on to become one of the most beloved, iconic comic book movie performances of all time. Now, nine movies later, an era comes to a close, as Jackman plays Wolverine one last time in the brand new film LOGAN. In this episode, we give our full review. Is it a worthy swan-song for Jackman's version of the character? What about Patrick Stewart, also potentially leaving the series after this? How important is the much-discussed R rating to the film? Is the introduction of X-23 to the X-MEN franchise an effective one? And...did we cry? All this, and much more, in an in-depth discussion of the movie. Needless to say, SPOILERS abound in this episode, so approach with caution if you have not yet seen LOGAN. Also, some very quick thoughts on the pre-LOGAN teaser for DEADPOOL 2, recent casting news about the as-of-yet untitled FOX X-Men series, Simon Kinberg potentially directing the next X-MEN movie, and some new casting rumors for Cable. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
56 - We Are Legion
LEGION is here! Join us as we share our thoughts on the first two episodes of the new FX series from Noah Hawley. Is it truly "the best superhero TV show ever," as many reviews have said? What is it doing right that the other comic shows are doing wrong? Is it too weird for TV? Too smart? How much liberty does it take with its X-Men source material, and does it even matter? All of this and much more is discussed. Also, we try to figure out what Sophie Turner meant when she recently said she'd be shooting the new X-MEN movie later this year. And we offer up our box office predictions for LOGAN, as we begin the countdown to Hugh Jackman's (supposedly) final turn as Wolverine. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
55 - XTV
This week, it's a television spectacular! Trev & Joe discuss early reviews of LEGION, debuting this week on FX. Also, speculation about what it means that Bryan Singer is directing the pilot of FOX's upcoming X-Men related show. And finally, the guys share their thoughts on what X-Men shows they would LIKE to see in the future. Plus, more confusion over the LOGAN timeline, and a totally chill plea for ratings and reviews. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
54 - State of the X-Union
So...did you guys see that new LOGAN trailer? Trev & Joe sure did, and are here to share their thoughts on it. Does this new look make us even more excited than we were before? Are we satisfied with how X-23 looks in action? And what's the deal with those X-Men comic books? Plus, the guys also discuss rumors of a former James Bond playing Cable, the potential meaning/ramifications of SUPERNOVA as a future X-MEN movie title, and the surprising award show buzz surrounding DEADPOOL. Finally, as "Inhumans vs. X-Men" kicks off in the comic world, Trev checks in on the current state of the X-Men comic franchise, reviewing the main X-titles in the "All-New, All-Different Marvel" era. What are the highs and lows of each title? Which trade collections are worth picking up? And how will the post "Secret Wars" era of X-Men ultimately be remembered? Listen on and hear Trev's take. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
53 - New Year, New Mutants
It's a new year, and Trev and Joe are back after a holiday break to catch up on some X-MEN movie news. Topics of discussion include the apparent confirmation of James McAvoy's in Josh Boone's NEW MUTANTS, and the temporarily rumored (and then denied) Deadpool cameo in LOGAN. We also once again speculate on Hugh Jackman's post-LOGAN role in the X-MEN franchise, and what it would take to bring him back as Wolverine. Also, Joe shares his X-Men related Christmas gifts, and Trev gives his take on a few of the X-Men comics he was able to read during the break. Plus, thoughts on Jennifer Lawrence joking (?) about wanting to ditch X-MEN for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, and a review of STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE, because why not? Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
52 - God Loves, Man Kills, We Review
It's one of the most famous X-Men stories of all time, and - as discussed in this episode - it suddenly feels as relevant as ever. This week, we take an in-depth look at Chris Claremont's classic 1982 graphic novel, "God Loves, Man Kills." Along with being the (loose) inspiration for X2: X-MEN UNITED, this story is also one of Claremont's highest accomplishments with the franchise. In fact, it might just be THE best X-Men story ever. Agree? Disagree? Listen to our thoughts, and let us know what you think. But first, in a segment we may or may not have already done in the past, Trev tries to guess who Wizard Magazine wanted to cast for the rumored X-MEN movie in 1995. Also, discussion of the apparent Fox X-MEN film franchise release schedule. And, Trev makes an impassioned plea for Marvel to once again make the X-Men comics franchise the socially relevant examination of racism and civil rights the world needs it to be right now. That's right - we're getting political again, with no apologies this time. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
51 - Voice of the X-Men
Question: What are two things in need of a reboot? Answer: The X-MEN movie franchise, and Trev's voice. In this episode, a sick Trev bravely fights his own lost voice to join Joe in discussing the recent news of a potential "reboot" for Fox's X-MEN franchise. What does this news mean? Does Fox really have ANY idea what they are doing with the series? What direction SHOULD it take? We consider all the possibilities...or, well, at least some of them. Plus, we give our thoughts on the new DEADPOOL 2 director, Kevin Feige shooting down a Fox/MCU collaboration, the announcement of an INHUMAN television series, and DOCTOR STRANGE. Also, exactly five minutes of election talk. All this, and more, so give us a listen...if you can handle listening to Trev, that is. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
50 - When X-Men Went Weird: The NEW X-MEN Review
This week, we take an in-depth look at Grant Morrison's classic (and divisive) "NEW X-MEN" run. From 2001 to 2004, the Scottish writer completely upturned the idea of what an X-Men comic could be, in the most shocking reinvention of the franchise fans had ever seen yet. Less a traditional superhero story and more a warped, dark sci-fi epic, Morrison's time on "NEW X-MEN" continues to be one of the most discussed and analyzed periods in X-Men history...so now it's our turn to take a stab. The dissolution of Scott and Jean's relationship, the emergence of Emma Frost as a central X-Men character, the confusing tale of Xorn, and the introductions of Cassandra Nova, John Sublime, Quentin Quire, Fantomex and more - it' all here, as we take a look at the entire run, summarizing each story arc, and sharing some of our favorite characters, ideas and revelations. And don't worry...we promise this episode is a lot easier to follow and understand than a typical Grant Morrison story. 49 - The Good, The Bad, and The Fox
There's a lot of big X-MEN news this week, and we're here to x-plore all of it. First up, a discussion of the recently announced new X-Men comic titles that will make up the line's 2017 relaunch, as part of Marvel's "Resurrxion" event. What do these new titles suggest about the future of X-Men comics, and why should fans of the '90s be excited about the two new core titles? Next, we take a look at both the good and the bad regarding the X-MEN movie universe, as this past week gave us both a new trailer for LOGAN, as well as some distressing news about director Tim Miller leaving DEADPOOL 2. We pick apart the LOGAN trailer, and share how it affects our current feelings about the movie, and then try to make some damn sense of this Miller situation, and what it might mean for the Deadpool franchise moving forward (Hint: it won't involve Quentin Tarantino). And we wrap it all up with our predictions of what and when the next actual X-MEN movie will be. All this and, of course, more of the off-topic tangents you've come to expect from this alleged X-Men podcast. So give it a listen, and enjoy! 48 - Fangs for the X-Perience
It's our second annual X-Tra Spooky Halloween Special, and this time, we actually prepared. To celebrate the scariest time of the year, we take an in-depth look at two classic horror-tinged X-Men stories from 1982: "Night Screams," from Uncanny X-Men #159, and "Blood Feud," from Uncanny X-Men Annual #6, both detailing Storm and her fellow X-Men's unexpected battle against Dracula! How do Marvel's merry mutants fare against the king of the vampires himself? On a less frightening note, we also discuss the recent revelations about the upcoming LEGION television series, offer our thoughts on all the LOGAN movie news that just dropped, share our favorite classic Halloween specials, and take a moment to unbox some x-tremely generous listener mail. All this and more, so give us a listen....if you dare!! Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
47 - Trev & Joe Go To White Castle
Remember X-MEN: APOCALYPSE? You might not, but the fast food chain White Castle certainly does. In a bit of odd timing, they just recently unveiled their special "X-Menu," in honor of the film's home video and digital release. Throwing all concerns for our safety aside, on this episode we do a live taste test of all four (well, three and a half) items from the special menu. So prepare to pray for your fearless hosts as they try the Ghost Pepper Cheese Slider, the X-Treme Ghost Pepper Cheese Slider, the Apocalyptic Waffle Slider, and Mutant Loaded Fries. Warning: If the sounds of people eating are not your bag, this might be as scary for you to listen to as it was for us to actually attempt. Besides the taste test experiment, we also try to figure out some of the other facets of White Castle's X-Men promotion, such as the offer of an "X-Diploma" and a contest to receive an "X-Men make-over." Plus, discussion of X-Men action figures and our own personal X-Men collectible collections, as well the lost potential of Katheryn Bigelow and Robert Rodriguez directed X-Men films, the AGENTS OF SHIELD season premiere, and more. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
46 - Sinister Things
On this episode, Trev & Joe attempt to explain one of the most inexplicable X-Men characters of them all, the super-villain Mister Sinister. Following the news that Sinister will appear in the new WOLVERINE movie, the guys discuss his comic book origins, appearance, wildly inconsistent powers and motives, and whether or not he's the proper villain to headline what is being billed as the final WOLVERINE film. All in the hope that, if we talk about Sinister enough, Bryan Cranston will ask to come on the show. Also, the guys ponder whether or not they will buy X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, while discussing the recent release of deleted scenes that shouldn't have been deleted. Plus, Trev's love of AMERICA'S GOT TALENT, Joe's ongoing search for the perfect potato chip, the wonders of online grocery shopping, America's reluctance to embrace the bidet, the myth of STAR TREK: TNG being a great show, STARGATE and its hundred spin-offs...all this, and more, in what is arguably one of our most off-topic episodes ever! 45 - I Can't Believe It's Not Deadpool
"Who is Agent X?" That was the question on the lips of at least dozens of Marvel fans back in the year 2002, when the company cancelled its low-selling title DEADPOOL (no, seriously), and replaced it with a new book called AGENT X. While the titular character seemed to share a lot of traits with everyone's favorite Merc with a mouth, the mystery of his true identity, and how it ties into Wade Wilson, was in fact a driving force of the book. Trev hasn't read the book since it first came out, but Joe just recently read it for the first time. In this episode, Trev valiantly attempts to remember the plot-twists and reveals of the story, and both guys discuss the book's place as an odd footnote in Deadpool history, and whether it was a worthy temporary replacement still worth revisiting today. Also, more talk about the upcoming NEW MUTANTS movie, which has just announced its writers, and Bryan Singer's recent comments about the LEGION TV series tying into the movie universe. Plus, Doug Liman's exit from the GAMBIT movie is discussed in another new episode of everyone's favorite podcast-within-a-podcast, Chatting Tatum. Meanwhile, an attempt to keep this episode more on target than usual is obliterated by talk of Mac Sabbath, Crystal Pepsi, THE MATRIX, waifu's, STRANGER THINGS, THE RING, and more. 44 - Summer X-lympics
Still have Olympic fever and nowhere to turn? Cheer up, because Trev & Joe have your back. On this episode, the guys assemble the best possible mutant Olympic team for various countries, and discuss which nation would have the best chance at various events as a result. Can anyone top Russia's Colossus in weight-lifting events? Is Wolverine's metal skeleton an advantage or a hindrance in swimming? How frustrating must it be to play Nightcrawler in basketball? And is Joe being kind of a jerk by even placing Charles Xavier on an Olympic team? All of these questions and more are answered. Also, the guys discuss the recent rumor of Kyle Chandler being cast as Cable, as well as news that Domino is also slated to be a part of the upcoming DEADPOOL 2. They also wonder why everyone is freaking out about recent photos showing an older looking Hugh Jackman, and Trev shares his thoughts on SUICIDE SQUAD. But first, an unexpected tangent about Joe Bob Briggs, Rhonda Shear, Gilbert Gottfried, and the disappointing modern lack of late-night hosted movies on cable television. Because why not? 43 - Sex-Men United
In this eagerly anticipated by no one episode, Trev finally plows into the next two Axel Braun X-Men porn parodies, WOLVERINE XXX and AVENGERS vs X-MEN XXX. Stained costumes, strange cliffhangers, and oddly specific comic book references...Trev has seen it all. And we do mean ALL. Are the films worth seeing for X-Men fans, or just average horn-dogs? Listen on, and find out. But first, Trev and Joe take a look at the LEGION trailer that was unveiled at San Diego Comic Con, as well as talk about the character of Legion and how they feel the character can be translated to television. Also, brief discussion on the critical response to SUICIDE SQUAD, the lack of a Cable casting announcement, and more. 42 - The M-Word
Are you a hardcore X-Men fan looking for a lesser-known, obscure title to check out? In this episode, Trev & Joe dive deep into the back-issue bins and discover MUTIES, a 2002 six issue mini-series from writer Kurt Bollers and a team of various artists (including THE WALKING DEAD's Charlie Adlard). The guys discuss each issue of the series, which takes an unflinching look at the lives of young mutants that are never pulled into the X-Men's world. Also, Trev & Joe break-down the recent news about a new X-Men television series being developed for Fox, sharing their thoughts on what they think and hope the show will be. Also, talk of Pokemon Go, Jeff Fahey, a lackluster San Diego Comic Con, Ghost Rider coming to Agents of SHIELD, the new Ghostbusters movie, and Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons. Trust us, it all sort of makes sense. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
41 - X-Men Origins: Wolverine Audio Commentary
Well, it's time. And, because no sane men would attempt to do this alone, this week Trev & Joe are joined by a special guest, Kyle Byrd, of If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It and Kaiju Transmissions. Together, the three brave souls provide a running audio commentary for Gavin Hood's 2009 film X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, the very first X-Men spin-off film. Terrible CGI, gorgeous flowing hair, and in-name-only characters...all of this and more is discussed, as the guys try to make sense of this, the only X-Men film even the series producers now want you to forget. As usual with our commentary episodes, watching along with us is NOT required...though how else are you going to see those incredible claws? 40 - Days of Future Podcast: De-Evolution
What happens when two hosts of an X-Men podcast get to the day of recording and realize they never planned anything to talk about? You get this, our most off-topic episode ever! Listen as the guys discuss Joe's recent Emmy wins, ruminate on two weeks worth of terrible news, potentially offend and lose some listeners with their amateur thoughts on the gun control debate, try to figure out Brexit (which at least has an "X" in it), ponder potentially famous listeners, and look for the perfect potato chip. But don't fret, the guys do eventually remember this is an X-Men show, as they also revisit the animated series X-MEN: EVOLUTION, checking in on the early episodes for the first time in years, and are both surprised by their reaction to it. Once often lambasted as little more than SAVED BY THE BELL: THE X-MEN YEARS, the show takes on a different context in a current era long devoid of any X-cartoons whatsoever. So what do Trev and Joe think of this "hip" re-imagining of the X-Men now? Listen on and find out. 39 - Worst X-Men Podcast Ever
This week, Trev & Joe have each chosen an X-universe mini-series they want to highlight for discussion . First up, Joe takes a look at the underappreciated X-FACTOR Vol. 2 (2002), from writer Jeff Jensen & artist Arthur Ranson, a terrific look at the uneasy relationship between the human and mutant populations of the Marvel universe. Then, Trev shares his love for X-MEN: WORST X-MAN EVER (2016), from writer Max Bemis & artist Michael Walsh, a playful look at the X-universe which asks what it might be like to be a part of the X-Men's world when you have the worst possible mutant power one can think of. Plus, the guys discuss the potential fallout of X-MEN: APOCALYPSE's box-office performance, and share their thoughts on the film's recent billboard controversy. Perhaps most importantly, they also answer a very X-Men relevant, listener-submitted question regarding the general reaction to Trevor Noah's DAILY SHOW tenure so far. All this, and more. 38 - Post-Apocalyptic Prediction Party
We're back a week early, for the third part of what we are now considering our "APOCALYPSE Trilogy!" This time, Trev & Joe discuss what comes next for the cinematic X-MEN franchise in the wake of X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Where do they think the series goes from here? What do they want to see, from both the next X-MEN movie itself, and spin-offs like NEW MUTANTS, WOLVERINE 3, GAMBIT, and the next DEADPOOL film? What story-lines are they hoping to see brought to life? And should the future of the franchise remain in the hands of Bryan Singer? 37 - The Apocalypse is Upon Us
APOCALYPSE is here, ready to lay waste to both humanity AND the X-MEN franchise's goodwill with audiences and critics alike. In this episode, Trev & Joe share their review of the brand new X-MEN film, first offering general thoughts, before launching into a spoiler-filled discussion of the movie's highs and lows, including their favorite and least favorite characters and moments. What did Days of Future Podcast think of the most divisive film in the series yet? Listen on, and find out! 36 - The Apocalypse Looms
With X-MEN: APOCALYPSE on the horizon, Trev & Joe use this final pre-release episode to discuss the first batch of press reviews. What might we take away from the mixed response the film has so far received, especially in light of the very positive reaction DAYS OF FUTURE PAST received a couple years ago? Also, following their amazingly accurate DEADPOOL box-office predictions, the guys once again give their guesses at how the new film will do in the domestic box office. Then, the guys temporarily turn their attention away from the X-Universe to share their thoughts on CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR (which, to be fair, at least features one former mutant character in Scarlet Witch). 35 - Keep on Rockin' in the X-World
When cast member Sophie Turner shared a new photo from X-MEN:APOCALYPSE last week, it led to numerous questions. "Will Dazzler actually be appearing in the film? Will Taylor Swift truly play her?" And, "just who the hell IS Dazzler, anyway??"Thankfully, Trev & Joe are here for you, with this special look at Alison Blaire, aka Dazzler, x-ploring both her origins and her place in the X-universe. As a bonus, the guys also take a look at Lila Cheney, Marvel's OTHER rock'n'roll mutant from the '80s, and discuss a couple very well-done fan films starring the two characters. Plus, thoughts on the latest APOCALYPSE trailer, rumors of X-23's cinematic debut, the over-excitement over the DEADPOOL DVD "special" features, and, perhaps most importantly, Trev reviews Red Robin's special X-Men themed burger, the Berserker X!! 34 - Enter Grant Morrison, Exit Spandex
EFew X-Men fans would deny that, as the '90s came to an end, the once fantastic comic franchise had lost its way. With the surprise mega-success of Bryan Singer's 2000 film, it was important that Marvel get the property back on track. To do so, they turned to Scottish comic-writer superstar Grant Morrison, hoping he could re-invent the X-Men. And, boy, did he, as his NEW X-MEN run delivered a bold, and controversial new take on the team, unlike anything fans had seen. In this episode, Trev & Joe x-amine his kick-off story arc, "E is for Extinction," three issues that would drastically herald a new era for Marvel's merry mutants. But first, the guys discuss the SHOCKING confirmation of a Deadpool sequel, and take a look at a recent news story concerning "real life X-Men." Also, the Vine app, Banksy's real identity, and the acting skill of Dominic Purcell are all x-plored for some reason. 33 - Growing Up Wolvie
EFor 27 years, he was comics' ultimate man of mystery. The most popular X-Man of them all, Wolverine was known for his healing factor, adamantium claws, and - perhaps most intriguingly - the large question mark that hovered over his unknown early years. But that all changed in 2001, when Marvel finally decided to give us a peek at his secret beginnings, with Origin, a six-issue miniseries from Paul Jenkins, Andy Kubert and Richard Isanove. Now, 15 years later, Trev and Joe take a look back at this classic/controversial story, both discussing the reasons it came to be and reviewing the entire miniseries itself. But first, a look at some X-Men movie news, as the guys analyze the costumes in the latest Apocalypse group photo, ponder yet another Gambit delay, and give their thoughts on the rumored casting for Josh Boone's New Mutants. Plus, some talk of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the upcoming Mystery Science Theater 3000 cast reunion. Opening Music: "Wolverine: The Musical!" from Barely Productions and Indy Mogul. Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFutWATCPg0 Closing Music: "Sodium," from Mystery Science Theater 3000 Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
32 - Xavier v Magneto: Dawn of Baldness
Trev and Joe are back to their usual X-Men-centric format (kind of), just in time to break-down the latest trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse. Bryan Singer's love of black leather costumes, familiar dialogue, a certain mega-star actually wearing blue make-up...all is discussed, as we the home-stretch to the new movie. Plus, the guys also discuss the new trailers for Captain America: Civil War and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (AKA: Tim Burton's X-Men). But first, some thoughts on the mid-season premiere of Agents of SHIELD, the OJ Show, Daredevil season two, and Megan Fox's recent run on Fox's The New Girl. So, like we said, welcome back to our version of all X-Men talk! Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
31 - Agents of D.O.F.P. - A Shield Special
EIt's finally here - a long-awaited, long-teased, perhaps even long-threatened special episode. As the hit(?) ABC series Marvel's Agents of SHIELD prepares to return from its mid-season hiatus, Trev & Joe temporarily put aside all X-Men talk to dedicate an entire episode to an extensive, in-depth recap and discussion of the show so far. Has the series lived up to its potential? Did it even have any potential in the first place? Is it hampered or helped by its loose connection to the MCU? Are there actually any characters worth giving a damn about? And just how qualified ARE mechanics to run our nation's largest security organizations? All of these questions and more are tackled, as the guys walk you through the first two and half seasons of Agents of SHIELD. Will Joe's hatred of the show be too much for Trev's half-hearted defense to overcome? There's only way one way to find out...give it a listen! 30 - Deadpool. Deadpool! DEADPOOL!
EWe know which way the wind is blowing, and so in this episode Trev & Joe re-brand as Days of Future Deadpool, an "All Wade Wilson, All the Time" podcast. First, the guys eat their slices of humble pie regarding their Deadpool box-office predictions. Next, they share their thoughts on the movie itself, and what its success might mean for future X-Men and other superhero movies. Finally, they discuss the now classic Joe Kelly run of Deadpool comics that served as one of the primary inspirations for the film. So go grab a chimichanga, sit back and relax as Trev & Joe pay tribute to your new favorite character of all time!! DEADPOOL!!! 29 - Chris Claremont's Neo Con
In the year 2000, X-Men fans were given what seemed to be a special treat. Legendary writer Chris Claremont, famous for his epic run writing the X-Men from 1975-1991, finally returned to the core X-titles for the first time in nine years. It was exciting! It was much hyped! It was...a complete disaster. In this episode, Trev & Joe take a look back at this now almost-forgotten, strange blip in comic history, when the greatest X-Men writer of them all was removed from the main X-Men books after only ten disappointing months. All is X-amined - the underwhelming new villains, the abandoned plot threads, and the behind-the-scenes drama that might have just doomed Claremont from the beginning. PLUS, the guys give their Deadpool box office predictions, discuss the announced casting for the Legion TV series, and share their thoughts on the X-Files revival (hey, it's somewhat X-related). All this, and more! Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast
28 - Netflix's Making a Magneto
In this episode, it's a grab-bag of X-related topics (and, of course, some non-X-related topics). Trev & Joe find their enthusiasm for the Deadpool movie perhaps slightly enhanced, thanks to a fantastic marketing campaign. News that the Legion TV series will not connect to the X-Men movie universe leaves the guys wondering if a fully integrated X-media universe is even necessary. A new Making a Murderer-inspired X-Men project is pitched to Marvel (who we KNOW are listening). And Trev tells Joe all about the first batch of post-Secret Wars X-Men titles that he has recently read. All this and more (including some now standard Agents of SHIELD bashing from Joe), so give it a listen!
