126 - Quarantine Catch-Up

Finally breaking our COVID-19 quarantine silence, in this episode we return to briefly catch-up on how we're both handling the ongoing lockdown. Thankfully, we also remembered this is meant to be an X-Men podcast, so conversation eventually turns to the newly announced NEW MUTANTS release date (again!) and whether we think it will actually happen this time, Rob Liefeld's comments about Disney sleeping on DEADPOOL 3, and the return of weekly physical comic book releases. Plus a brief discussion of which X-Men characters would best be suited to a weekly Disney+ series. All this, and more, in one of our most casual, freewheeling episodes ever (and you know that's saying something). facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

125 - NEWS Mutants: A New Mutants Podcast

Trev & Joe check in with their personal quarantine updates, before discussing the current perilous state of the comic book industry, and finally revealing the listener-determined winner of this year's Mutant March Madness tournament of Best Mutant Powers. Then, in one of the craziest things to ever happen on our show, an inter-dimensional rift opens, sucking us all inside and depositing listeners in an alternate world where NEW MUTANTS mania is running wild after the wildly successful release of the SECOND New Mutants movie. That's right, get ready to experience "NEWS Mutants," the podcast about all things New Mutants, as these alternate versions of Trev & Joe review "New Mutants: War Children," a one-shot published last year which saw the return of celebrated creative team Chris Claremont & Bill Sienkiewicz (thanfully, this issue exists in OUR world, too, so everyone should hopefully still find this review helpful). facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

124 - Mutant March Madness III: Mutant Powers

The actual March Madness might not have happened this year, but we've got your back, with the return of our annual Mutant March Madness tournament. This year, we're pitting 64 mutant abilities against each other, in a battle to determine the best power of them all. Included are powers from the comics AND X-Men cinematic universe. Determining factors include how cool the power looks, how handy it would be in combat, and how much you'd like to have it in "real life." And if we still can't decide after those questions, then it's down to "which power would be the most advantageous in a game of basketball?" What IS the greatest mutant power of them all? Listen to our spirited discussion here, and then discover how YOU can have a hand in the final determination! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

123 - Obnoxio the Clown vs. The X-Men vs. a Quarantine

As the world hunkers down into a pandemic-created quarantine, we've decided to spend this valuable time diving into one of the strangest pieces of X-Men history, the April 1983 one-shot "Obnoxio the Clown vs. The X-Men." This issue saw the mascot of the then recently-cancelled Marvel humor magazine "Crazy" invited to the X-Mansion to perform for Kitty Pryde's birthday. Unfortunately, he just so happens to arrive at the same time a bizarre villain named Eye-Scream is planning an attack on the X-Men....and (allegedly) wacky hijinks ensue. We discuss both the one-shot and the history of the Obnoxio character in general, in order to decipher why this issue even happened, and why Obnoxio is mostly forgotten about today. Plus, we of course have to talk about the recent coronavirus cancellation of THE NEW MUTANTS' upcoming release. Is this movie truly cursed? facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

122 - Fallen Angels (1987) Review

Why the heck was one of the new Dawn of X titles called "Fallen Angels," you ask? Well, it turns out the name (and name only) is, apparently a reference to a New Mutants spin-off mini-series by Jo Duffy and Kerry Gammill from 1987. In this totally bonkers eight-issue miniseries, Sunspot (Bobby da Costa) runs away from his New Mutant teammates, with alien buddy Warlock in tow, and soon the two find themselves mixed up with a bizarre team of young, super-powered street criminals, led by a former X-Villain. Along for the ride are Multiple Man and Siryn, who are sent by Magneto and Moira MacTaggert to locate the wayward New Mutants, but soon also find themselves part of this new ragtag group. It's an absolutely wild series that highlights all that was great (and confusing) about comic books in the late '80s, and we're here to talk all about it. But first, we check in with how we're feeling about the initial wave of Dawn of X books now that the second wave is beginning to hit, and we also spend arguably a bit too much time talking about the filmographies of Kelsey Grammar and Tom Arnold. All this, and more, so give it a listen. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

121 - New Year, New Mutants?

In what feels like the saga that never ends, we are once again being promised (threatened with?) an upcoming release of Josh Boone's THE NEW MUTANTS. In this episode, we take a look at the recently released new trailer, and discuss our thoughts on both the trailer and the upcoming release in general. Are we still excited to see the movie? What do we think are the best-case scenarios for the film, and its impact on the MCU? Do we even really believe the movie is coming out?? Plus, we take a look at Patrick Stewart's recent statements about a supposed X-Men related meeting with Kevin Feige, and also share our take on the potential role Scarlet Witch will play in introducing mutants into the MCU. All this, and more! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

120 - Rise of the Podtalkers: A Star Wars Special

After a bit of a holiday break, we're back to talk all things...Star Wars? That's right, instead of our usual off-topic tangents (and on the perhaps foolish belief that you all like just listening to us talk about ANY nerdy stuff), we've decided to dedicate an entire episode to our thoughts on STAR WARS EPISODE IX: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER and Disney+'s THE MANDALORIAN. It's a very interesting time for Star Wars, with a fan-base divided and general confusion and disagreements about where the franchise should go next. How did we feel about the new movie, and the much-hyped new streaming series? And how do we feel about Star Wars in general these days? All this and more, answered within. Don't worry, we'll be back to discussing X-Men (including a look at the new NEW MUTANTS trailer) very soon. So please pardon this temporary diversion. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

119 - A Very Claremont Christmas

It's Christmas time, that time of the year when we celebrate a jolly old man with a white beard...that's right, Chris Claremont! On this episode, we're taking a look at director Patrick Meaney's documentary "Chris Claremont's X-Men," now available on Amazon Prime. The doc takes an in-depth look at Claremont's long original run on the X-Men books, honoring his legacy and mourning a business model that evolved beyond him. We share our thoughts on the movie, as well as offer our own takes on Claremont and his undeniable place in X-Men history. Plus, a look at the crazy roster of the newly announced "Hellions" book, and our usual, trademark, totally-on-topic talk of The Simpsons, Star Wars, and more. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

118 - Dawn of X Begins

It's Thanksgiving, and a reunited Trev & Joe are thankful for "Dawn of X," the start of the Jonathan Hickman overseen, post-HoxPox relaunch of the X-Men comic line. And so, in this episode, we share our thoughts on the first issues of the brand new X-Men, Marauders, Excalibur, New Mutants, X-Force, and Fallen Angels titles. What do we think of each individual book, and how do these initial issues have us feeling about the new direction in general? Plus, talk of the JASON BOURNE movies, CORKY ROMANO, the classic ABC sitcom DINOSAURS, the "Snyder cut," preferred Thanksgiving meal entrees, Baby Yoda, and so much more! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

117 - X-Men+

Disney+ has arrived, and while everyone is busy obsessing over THE MANDALORIAN (and fretting over "Maclunkey"), let's not forget that means we suddenly have access to a wide variety of animated X-Men fare. On this episode, we discuss the three X-Men animated series that are available on the service - the classic '90s X-MEN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, the high-school based X-MEN: EVOLUTION, and the surprisingly mature, one-season wonder, WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN. Plus, we check in with some quick thoughts on the first issues that have so far been released in the "Dawn of X" event (before a deeper dive next episode), and Joe takes Trevor to task for abandoning him to a harsh November snowstorm in Michigan. All this, and more! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

116 - Halloween Spooktacular V: Heroes for Hope

For our fifth annual Halloween episode, we're taking a look at 1985's "Heroes for Hope: Starring the X-Men" one-shot, a special issue put together by Marvel to help raise awareness about hunger in Africa, with all proceeds for the book going towards African famine relief. A surprisingly dark, psychological horror-tinged tale that sees the X-Men battling an ancient demon that can summon their greatest fears, this book was a true all-star effort, with contributions from both numerous famous comic creators (including Stan Lee, Chris Claremont, Alan Moore, Frank Miller, Brian Bolland, Archie Goodwin, Denny O'Neill, John Romita Jr. and many others), AND a few notable authors from outside the industry, such as George R.R. Martin, Edward Bryant, Harlan Ellison, and the master of terror himself, Stephen King. Plus, we try to figure out which X-Men characters would be best suited to play some of our favorite iconic horror movie characters (n case they want to trade in superheroics for acting), and Trev offers some very brief thoughts on the first couple "Dawn of X" titles, X-Men #1 and Marauders #1. All this and more, so turn off the lights, go grab some of that Halloween candy you stole from your children (you know you do it), and give us a listen. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

115 - HoX PoX Review

HoX PoX is complete! Jonathan Hickman's epic, and much-publicized 12-issue relaunch of the X-Men universe wrapped up last week, so now - on the eve of the "Dawn of X" series of new monthly X-titles - it's time for us to look back at the complete HoX PoX saga. What did we think of "House of X" and "Powers of X" overall? Who were our favorite characters, and what were the most exciting moments? Do we have any theories or predictions? And how x-cited are we for what is to come next? All of these questions and more are answered, as we get into an in-depth discussion of what truly was one of the biggest and most revolutionary events in X-Men history. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

114 - LEGION Season 3 Review

We're back! That's right, it's our long-awaited Season Two premiere, and we're celebrating with a belated, but nonetheless exciting look at the third and final season of FX's LEGION. After a controversial second season, Noah Hawley's mind-bending look at David Haller, the troubled son of Charles Xavier, returned and wrapped up this past summer. Were we satisfied with the resolution? And how do we now feel about the series in total? We answer these questions and more, with an in-depth (sorta) look at the third season. But first, talk of the Disney/Sony Spider-Man brouhaha, the brief rumor of Kit Harrington playing Wolverine, and the X-Men cartoons coming to the Disney+ streaming service. Plus, we check in on HoXPox, and discuss how we're currently feeling about Jonathan Hickman's epic relaunch of the X-MEN comic universe. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

113 - HoX PoX ROX

It's the season one finale of Days of Future Podcast (don't worry, we explain within), and we're going out with a bang! First up, we discuss the MCU Phase Four announcements from San Diego Comic Con, assessing the cinematic universe the X-Men will eventually be entering in the (near?) future. Then, we take a look at all of the upcoming X-universe comic titles that were announced at SDCC. What do we think about out first peek at the post-HOUSE OF X/POWERS OF X X-Men landscape? Speaking of HOUSE OF X and POWERS OF X (or "HoX PoX," as the cool kids are calling it), the first issues of both have been released, and we've read them! That's right, Joe is joining Trev in staying current on this epic relaunch of the X-Men universe. We take a deep dive into the first two issues of Jonathan Hickman's bold new take on Marvel's mutants, summarizing the events and then sharing our thoughts and predictions on what's to come. It's an incredibly exciting time to be a X-MEN fan, to be sure, but do we feel the initial issues lived up to the hype? Listen on to find out! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

112 - X-STATIX Returns!!

In 2001, writer Peter Milligan and artist Michael Allred took over X-FORCE, ditching the characters fans already knew and loved for a completely new cast and a bold new concept - a satirical book about a mutant superhero team that were also reality TV stars. Eventually re-launching with the new title X-STATIX, this insanely creative title would be ultimately short-lived, but go on to enjoy a strong cult following to this day. Now, 15 years since the original X-STATIX title ended, Mister Sensitive, Doop, Dead Girl, Vivisector, & U-Go Girl are back (along with some new members), in Milligan and Allred's brand-new GIANT SIZE X-STATIX #1. In this episode, we discuss the issue, giving our thoughts on if the return of X-Statix lived up to the hype, and also our excitement over the surprise announcement at the end of the issue. Plus, we've seen the first three episodes of the third and final season of LEGION, so we're checking in with our initial thoughts on the climactic run. Is it still as weird as ever? Is the new storyline worthy of the second season cliffhanger? And what do we think of the show's depiction of Charles Xavier? All this, and more. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

111 - Fox Rankings, DARK PHOENIX Fallout, & Keanu!!

The Fox era is officially over (yeah, yeah, we know...NEW MUTANTS...but whatever), and so we figured it was a good time to look at the entire Fox X-Film franchise and offer our definitive rankings of the twelve films. How similar are our lists? Which films do we believe stand above the rest, and which do we consider unwatchable? And what is our overall impression of the entire franchise? Listen on to find out. Plus, with DARK PHOENIX released and already evaporating from the public consciousness, we take a look at the fallout, including details on the original ending, Simon Kinberg assuming personal responsibility for its failure, and what its future reputation might be. Also, new info about a scrapped Beast movie, Joe discusses his excitement about the upcoming Hickman run of X-books, and we offer our thoughts on who Keanu Reeves could play in the X-Men wing of the MCU. All this, and, in the return of Mutant Match-Up, we ponder whether a villainous telepath or a certain snarky mercenary would be the better candidate to relaunch the X-Men film franchise for Disney. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

110 - DARK PHOENIX Review

It is finally upon us. Nearly 20 years after it started, the Fox X-MEN franchise comes to a close with DARK PHOENIX, which arrived in theaters this past weekend to an embarrassing critical drubbing and dreadful box office results. But does the film really deserve the reaction it received? We're here to share our thoughts on the highs and lows of the film - What does it get right? What does it get wrong? What did we think of Sophie Turner's titular performance? And is the movie a worthy conclusion to this iteration of the X-Men cinematic saga? We discuss all this and more, in an in-depth review and breakdown of DARK PHOENIX. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

109 - Lifedeath Review

In 1984, writer Chris Claremont and artist Barry Windsor-Smith offered up a different type of superhero story in X-Men #186. "Lifedeath: A Love Story" finds a recently de-powered Storm being tended to by Forge - the man who, unbeknownst to her, is himself partly responsible for her losing her mutant abilities. How does a woman once worshipped as a super-powered goddess face a future with no powers? Is she more than the sum of her powers? This classic, introspective story sought to answer these questions, in the process further developing Storm into one of the X-Men's best, most complex characters. A year later, Claremont and Windsor-Smith would deliver a sequel story, "Lifedeath II," in X-Men #198, this time depicting a wounded, exhausted Storm tasked with protecting a young pregnant woman in the African plains. In this episode, we take a look at both of these classic stories, examining what they tell us about Storm, and why stories like these manage to resonate and stand out amongst the more common action-packed adventures often found in comic pages. Plus, we take a look at the teaser trailer for the third season of LEGION, offer box-predictions for DARK PHOENIX, and discuss the firs in-depth details of Jonathan Hickman's upcoming revamp of the X-Men comics line, with "House of X" and "Power of X." And, way too much talk of the GAME OF THRONES series finale. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

108 - X-Men: Days of Future Past Audio Commentary

In the much anticipated return of the film commentary series, Trev & Joe are once again joined by our friend (and fellow X-Nerd) Tom, to provide a running audio commentary for 2014's X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. This star-studded follow-up to both FIRST CLASS and the original X-MEN trilogy is one of the most successful, critically acclaimed entries in the Fox X-MEN franchise. Why is this particular entry so beloved, and does now knowing where the series was heading after this (not to mention more knowledge about the problematic director) change how one might x-perience the film? Join us as we watch the film and x-plore these questions, and more. As usual with our commentaries, watching along with us is recommended, but certainly not required. NOTE: This audio commentary is for the theatrical edition of DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, not the alternate "Rogue Cut." facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

107 - Earth's Mightiest Podcast: Avengers Endgame Review (a "What If" special)

In the grand tradition of Marvel's classic "What if" series, which explored alternate versions of beloved characters and stories, this episode takes a look at a world where Trev and Joe don't host an X-Men podcast, but instead have a long-running Avengers podcast. And wouldn't you know it...it's just in time to review the much anticipated AVENGERS: ENDGAME, the 22nd film in the MCU, currently obliterating box office records across the globe. What did Trev & Joe think of this massive hit? Listen on to find out. NOTE: this is a very spoiler heavy discussion, so if you're one of the 17 people who have still not seen ENDGAME, tread carefully here. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

106 - The Gifted Season 2 Review

In this episode, we take a look back at the recently completed second season of FOX's THE GIFTED. How did the second year stack up against the "better than you would think but still not GREAT" first season? Which characters were improved, and which lost some luster? Was this year's storyline more compelling? What did we think of the live-action depiction of the Morlocks? Most importantly, is the show still a worthwhile watch for X-Men fans? We answer all of these questions, and more. Also, we briefly discuss the just announced return of Peter Milligan and Michael Allred's "X-Statix," and share our thoughts on the STAR WARS EPISODE IX: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER trailer. Plus...ESPN? NOTE: This episode was recorded before news of THE GIFTED's cancellation...so when we speculate on the possibility of a third season, feel free to roll your eyes in annoyance. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

105 - MCU X-Men Director Draft

With it now more or less assured that the X-Men will soon be coming to the MCU, in this episode we discuss which directors we would most like to see handed the reins, and why. Plus, we once again speculate on the future of THE NEW MUTANTS based on Maisie Williams' recent comments about the lack of planned reshoots, and examine the recent news about superstar comic writer Jonathan Hickman returning to Marvel for two new X-books, "Age of X" and "Power of X." And, in one of the most contentious moments in DOFPodcast history, we have an intense, way-too-long argument about Steven Spielberg's recent announcement that he will be working with the new Apple streaming service, and whether or not this makes him a hypocrite. Cause, you know...X-Men? facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

104 - Mutant March Madness II - Movie & TV Characters

Last year, we held a Mutant March Madness tournament to determine the best X-Men comic character of all time. This year, the tourney is back, but we're turning our attention to the live-action realm, as we pit 64 of the most iconic live-action X-Universe characters against each other in a last-mutant-standing battle. Included are characters from the X-MEN and DEADPOOL film franchises, as well as TV's LEGION and THE GIFTED. Determining factors include how accurate they are to their comic book origins, how strong the actor's performance is, and - if those aren't enough - the "X-Factor!" Who is the greatest X-Men movie & TV character ever? You might think you know, but we promise there are some surprises along the way. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

103 - Dark Phoenix Trailer Breakdown

A brand new DARK PHOENIX trailer (two, if you also count the International version) has dropped, and we're here to share our thoughts. The surprising(?) reveal of a major character death, the continued mystery of who exactly Jessica Chastain is playing, oddly familiar looking setpieces, and a questionable make-up job for Mystique...we eXamine it all, including the overall fan reaction to the trailer. Has this new look at the film made us more or less excited for the final chapter in the Fox X-Men saga? Plus, we also share our thoughts on which characters and storylines we're most surprised and/or disappointed we never got to see in nearly twenty years of Fox X-Men films. And, in another installment of "Mutant Match-Up," a cocky X-student and a villain-turned-X-Men-associate are pitted against each other in an incredibly serious battle to see who could probably best fold a fitted sheet. Also, Weird Al talk, FULL/FULLER HOUSE talk, and...Kirk Cameron talk? All this, and more! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

102 - Dazzler's Shining Moment...almost

The year is 1980. Mount St. Helens is about to erupt, Ronald Reagan is on his way to being elected President, and over in Hollywood, megastar Bo Derek is preparing to star as Dazzler in what will be the first live-action blockbuster movie from Marvel. That's right, decades before we were all wowed by how impressive AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR was, we almost had an even more ambitious cinematic superhero spectacle - a DAZZLER movie that would have seen everyone's favorite disco-queen mutant, along with Spider-Man and the Avengers, zapped to the far future. Set to star an extremely eclectic cast including Derek, Robin Williams, Cher, KISS, The Village People, Rodney Dangerfield, and more, the DAZZLER movie obviously never actually happened. But in this episode, we take a look at the bizarre treatment written for the film (by comics legend Jim Shooter)...as well as the problematic, but perhaps more-relevant-than-ever 1984 graphic novel, "Dazzler: The Movie" (also penned by Shooter), which details Dazzler's encounters with the sleazy men of the entertainment industry. But first, we discuss news of LEGION's third season being its swan song, ponder which X-property we'd like to see M. Night Shyamalan direct, share our thoughts on Wolverine teaming with Conan the Barbarian in the new "Savage Avengers" comic, and - bringing it back to Dazzler - take a look at the recent announcement of her and other Marvel characters receiving brand new animated series from Hulu. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

101 - The Singer Conundrum

On this episode, we tackle a complicated topic in the world of X-Men. With a number of new allegations of sexual misconduct against Bryan Singer, it seemed high time to discuss how the controversy surrounding the director/producer affects the legacy of the Fox X-Men films. As the Fox films have been largely shepherded by Singer's vision - even often referred to as the "Singerverse" - does this mean the films themselves will forever be tainted by this controversy? Can one still enjoy the movies Singer was involved with? SHOULD one? There might be no easy answers here, but we still do our best to examine this tough issue. But first, we share our thoughts on recent rumors of NEW MUTANTS possibly debuting on HULU, as well as the apparent mixed response to recent DARK PHOENIX test screenings. We also answer a fan question regarding X-Men recommendations for Spider-Man fans, and - in a long awaited new edition of "Chatting Tatum" - we discuss the rumor of Tatum himself taking over the director's chair of GAMBIT. 100 - The 100th Episode Spectacular!!

It's our 100th episode! And we couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than to thank our listeners, and give all of you the floor (plus, it allowed us to take it easy and not worry about generating all the content ourselves!). And so, we begin by discussing the x-tremely cool contents of a listener-submitted care package, and then go on to answer a number of questions submitted on our social media feeds. Which X-Men characters do we think have had the most interesting existences, what do the X-Men personally mean to us, what would OUR mutant powers be if we wrote ourselves into the comics...all of these questions and more are answered. Thank you to everyone who chimed in! Then, we move on to discussing issue #100 of the original "Uncanny X-Men" run. From August of 1976, and written and illustrated by the classic duo of Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum, "X-Men #100" sees a battle of X-Men vs. X-Men (at a time when that was still a novelty), as Wolverine, Storm, Banshee, Nightcrawler, and Colossus find themselves having to defend themselves against an attack from the original five X-Men (Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Iceman, & Angel), as well as Havok and Polaris, aboard a space station. However, all may not be truly as it appears, in an action-packed issue that culminates with one of the most important moments in X-Men history. How does the issue stack up today? Listen on to find out. Here's to another 100! Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

99 - Merry Deadpool, Everyone!

It's Christmas time, and because we've been good little mutants this year, Santa Fox has gifted us with...a re-edited Deadpool movie? Well, okay, we'll take it. Or, at least, Joe will, as he checked out the new PG-13 version of this year's sequel, ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL. Is it worth the revisit? Listen on to hear his thoughts. But first, we discuss which mutant might make for a good Academy Awards host, and then get into the holiday spirit with a special extended edition of "Mutant Match-Up," in which we pit various X-Men characters against each other and decide which would be best at wrapping gifts, be most likely to go Christmas caroling, would be the biggest Grinch during the season, and more. 98 - Second Coming Review

In this episode, we review the 2010 conclusion to the epic trilogy of X-Men crossover events that started with "Messiah Complex" and continued with "Messiah War." In "Second Coming," Cable and a now teenage Hope Summers have finally returned from their time-hopping adventures, and Bastion and his cabal of resurrected X-villains are intent on killing Hope, and with her the potential future of the now extremely dwindling mutant race. With their very existence on the line in a way they have never experienced before, the X-teams are forced to turn to a more militant approach in order to fight back, as Hope wrestles with her status of would-be mutant messiah, in one of the most action-packed X-events of all time. How does the crossover hold up, eight years later? We share our thoughts. Also, we discuss what it might mean that MCU mastermind Kevin Feige apparently had script input on X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX, the importance of DEADPOOL 2's Grammy nomination, and Joe ponders whether or not to see ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL. 97 - Stan Lee Tribute

In this episode, we pay our respects to the legendary Stan "The Man" Lee, co-creator of the X-Men (with artist Jack Kirby). Lee's recent passing was felt all around the world, and of course we'd be remiss if we didn't discuss his role in the X-Universe. He might have only written 19 issues of the original title, but the entire X-Men legacy owes much to Lee...not just many of the classic characters, but also the very ideals of tolerance and acceptance that he crafted into the franchise early on. We share our own thoughts on what Lee meant to us, as well as take an alphabetical look at just some of the many characters Lee helped created during his storied run. Plus, Trev reviews the current "Extermination" event, which is wrapping up the story of the time-displaced original teen X-Men, as well as the first issue of the brand new "Uncanny X-Men," which sees Marvel restore that name as the flagship X-title. What does Trev think of the new direction the X-books appear to be heading? Listen to find out...as well as another chapter of the still-raging "Is DIE HARD a Christmas movie" debate! 96 - DOFP+

On this episode, we discuss the potential mutant influence on Disney's upcoming streaming service. As it officially gains a name (Disney+), and starts to solidify its programming line-up, we discuss what Disney's upcoming access to the X-Men might mean for the service, and pitch the X-verse shows we'd like to see joining the likes of THE MANDALORIAN and LOKI. Which X-books would we like to see adapted? What Fox-verse characters do we feel might survive the merger and benefit from a streaming show? And how might Disney+ best be used to introduce fans to the MCU version of Marvel's Merry Mutants? We answer all this, and more! Plus, a question about the holiday movie status of THE PRINCESS BRIDE (spurred on by Fred Savage's cameo in the upcoming ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL) leads to an incredibly contentious debate about whether or not DIE HARD is a Christmas movie. And, hey, DIE HARD is a Fox property, so it's KINDA relevant! Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast

95 - Halloween Spooktacular IV: Necrosha X

In our Fourth Annual Halloween episode, we take a look at the x-tra spooky (or, "spoopy," if you well) 2009-2010 crossover event, "Necrosha X." The ancient energy-vampire mutant, and Black Queen of the Hellfire Club, Selene, is on a quest to achieve godhood. To do so, she must resurrect a number of deceased x-characters, creating the x-universe's version of a full-scale zombie invasion. Coming in the midst of a redefining era for the X-books, does this particular story hold up? Plus, in a special Halloween edition of "Mutant Match-Up," we pit various x-characters against each other to determine who would give out the best candy, who would be the most likely to TP a house, who would be the least effort into their costume, and who would wear the craziest costume. Also, some general Halloween discussion, as we discuss favorite candies, cider mill trips, trick-or-treating rules, and Halloween viewing recommendations. And, for some reason...pro wrestling? So turn out the lights, light up your jack-o-lantern, and give this one a listen. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast

94 - The PolitiX of Robert Kelly

On this episode, we shine a spotlight on a character that has left a surprisingly long-shadow on the X-Men universe, despite not a lot of actual appearances in the comics themselves - Senator Robert Kelly, the mutant-hating politician turned surprising ally. What is it about this character that has left him as remembered as he is? And, in these politically charged (and often dismaying) times, can Kelly's story arc offer any hope for our future? Plus, staying in the realm of politics, we also share our thoughts on which X-Men would make the best Supreme Court justices, U.N. Ambassadors, Secretary of Defense, and other real life positions (because these fictional mutants would almost certainly do a better job than what we actually have now). Also, some discussion of the potential possibility of an actual new Deadpool Christmas movie this December, and in another installment of "Mutant Match-Up," a Starjamming X-parent goes one-on-one with a lightning-fearing Brotherhood member in a game of bowling. Plus, thoughts on James Gunn directing a new SUICIDE SQUAD movie, comedy sequels, and Tenacious D. 93 - Dark Phoenix's Last Stand

Our very first official look at the upcoming DARK PHOENIX is finally here, with last week's release of the trailer. You know we have thoughts on it - does it look like a step up from APOCALYPSE? What does the footage suggest about the story? How does the knowledge that it may very well be the final Fox X-MEN film play into the experience of watching and speculating on the trailer? We discuss all this, and more. But wait - lest you think the arrival of a trailer (complete with a then supposedly final release date) means there's finally some long desired stability in the Fox X-Universe, ha, Fox is here to remind you that they're always gonna Fox it up. And so we also take a look at yet MORE release date shuffles for DARK PHOENIX and (the allegedly still happening) GAMBIT, as well as the unexpected news of a theatrical release for a brand new PG-13 version of DEADPOOL 2. Finally, we review the SEASON TWO premiere of FOX's THE GIFTED. After last season really found its stride in its final episodes, does this new season look like it will continue the momentum? How did we feel about this episode, and are we intrigued by the direction this year appears to be heading in? All this, and more - including a lot of Kenan Thompson love - so listen on and enjoy! 92 - The Back to School Special

We're back! And, perhaps more importantly, so are students, at schools all around the country. And, while it's not often the first thing people think about when considering Marvel's Merry Mutants, it's important to remember that X-MEN is - ultimately - a school book itself, as the X-Men are traditionally students and teachers at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters (or whatever it's called at the time depending which book you're reading). So we thought this was the perfect time to examine this facet of the X-books, pondering which X-Men would probably make the best teachers, what it might be like to be a student at the school, and so much more. So grab your pencils and books and join us for this special look at the academic side of the X-Men. But first, Joe has some thoughts about a recent X-death in the comics, and - in lieu of any actual footage or anything of new Fox X-MEN movies - we instead once again talk about new rumors of behind the scenes problems with the upcoming X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX, and just Fox shenanigans in general. 91 - Gambit, On Trial Once Again

After talking about doing this episode since way back when we first started this show, the recent release of (and critical and fan acclaim for) Kelly Thompson's "Mr and Mrs X" series has finally given us the perfect time to finally take an in-depth look at one of its stars, the ragin' Cajun himself - Remy LeBeau, otherwise known as Gambit! Undeniably one of the most popular and well-known X-Men characters of the modern era, Gambit also has his fair share of haters and detractors. Where we do we fall? Do we still consider Gambit a worthy addition to the X-Universe, or an embarrassing throwback to a different, "edgier" era of comics? What do we think of his powers, backstory, and overall character traits? Do we believe he has lived up to his early potential? Tune in to hear these questions and more discussed as we delve into Channing Tatum's favorite X-Man. But first, we ponder the potential of a future X-Men theme park (possibly for the second time), sharing our proposals for mutant themed rides and attractions. We also discuss the chances of re-casting the X-Men for the MCU. And, in another installment of "Mutant Match-Up," an original New Mutant with a unique (though often mocked) power takes on a famous X-Men daughter and on-again/off-again X-Men member, in a battle for the honor of protecting YOU. 90 - Comic Con Recap

The 2018 San Diego Comic Con is now officially in the rear view mirror, and while there wasn't a TON of X-related news coming out of the event, there were certainly a few big tidbits worth discussing. So join us as we offer our thoughts on the two new X-titles announced by Marvel - the relaunch of "Uncanny X-Men," and the villain-centric "X-Men: Black." Plus, we take a look at the brand new trailer for season two of Fox's THE GIFTED. Can the sophomore season maintain the momentum of last season's much improved final third? This trailer is our first potential peek at the answer. Plus, we talk about the newly revealed (alleged) release dates for NEW MUTANTS and X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX, and once again speculate on the future of the X-Men movie franchise in its current form. And, in another installment of Mutant Match-Up, a classic X-Force member and the most famous Morlock of them all go head to head in an unexpected culinary based showdown. 89 - Messiah War Review

In 2007, a three-part saga meant to reset and redefine the X-Universe in the wake of "House of M" and Scarlet Witch's "no more mutants" declaration was kicked off with "X-Men: Messiah Complex." But, hey, we already talked about that (see Episode #79). This time, we turn our attention to the second chapter of the trilogy, the 2009 Cable & X-Force crossover event, "Messiah War." This story sees Cable and a young Hope Summers (the first mutant born after "House of M," as introduced in "Messiah Complex") jumping through time, on the run from a now villainous(?) Lucas Bishop, who is intent on murdering Hope to prevent an apocalyptic future he believes she will bring about. Joined by both Deadpool and X-Force, the secret black ops X-team recently commissioned by Cyclops to permanently eliminate threats to mutants, Cable and Hope will have to battle not only Bishop, but also classic X-villains Stryfe and Apocalypse. Does this second chapter live up to the first, and is it still - years later - an essential read for X-fans? But first, in another installment of "Mutant Match-Up," two lesser known x-women are pitted against each other in physical combat. Plus, we discuss the news of James Gunn being fired from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, and what it might mean for the entertainment world. All this and more, so listen on! 88 - Legion Season Two Review

It's time to finally delve into the complete second season of LEGION, Noah Hawley's mind-bending FX series about David Haller, the ultra-powerful and unpredictable son of Professor X. Unlike any other X-related media you've ever seen...heck, unlike any other superhero show or movie in general...the first season of LEGION was one of the most unique takes on the comic book genre ever. Did the second season continue this trend? We dive in deep, discussing the overall storyline, the creative indulgences, the characters, and the shocking (and controversial) final episode, which completely rewrote what you think you know about the show. But first, we pay our respects to the recently deceased Spider-Man co-creator, Steve Ditko; discuss the ramifications of Fox deciding not to show any DARK PHOENIX or NEW MUTANTS footage at San Diego Comic Con, and ponder the purpose of Wolverine's new #hotclaws! Plus, in the debut installment of our brand new segment "Mutant Match-Up," we pit two randomly chosen X-characters against each other in - this week - a battle to determine which of the two we would rather be adopted by. Don't worry...we explain it. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast

87 - Old Man Logan Review

After an unexpected break, we have finally returned, and we're diving back into the X-Men comic world for an in-depth look at one of the most popular Wolverine stories of all time. That's right, it's finally time to x-amine OLD MAN LOGAN, from superstar creators Mark Millar and Steve McNiven. In this future-set tale, we meet an older, broken Logan, who has not popped his claws in fifty years, and lives a quiet family life in a supervillain-controlled America with no more superheroes. What led to Logan's new pacifist stance? And will a mysterious mission with an elderly, nearly-blind Hawkeye bring back the Wolverine we all know and love? We run through all eight issues of this classic 2008 event, sharing our thoughts on both the highlights and some of the more questionable elements. But first, a brief discussion of the current ugliness plaguing the world of fandom, as well as our take on the surprising fallout of the recently released X-MEN: GOLD #30, featuring the long-awaited wedding of Kitty Pryde and Colossus. 86 - Deadpool 2 Review

The much anticipated DEADPOOL 2 is finally here, and so is our slightly less anticipated review episode! What did we think of the second entry in the DEADPOOL cinematic universe? Was it as funny and/or groundbreaking as the first? Were we satisfied with the depiction of Cable, Domino, and the other new characters? And did it leave us excited for more movies starring the Merc with a Mouth? All of these questions and more will be answered as we share our thoughts on what is now 2018's ONLY X-Film! Needless to say...SPOILERS. Visit Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast

85 - Selling Out with Deadpool

It's almost time for DEADPOOL 2, and we're neck deep in Deadpool promotion and hype. In the spirit of the sequel's (once again) excellent marketing, we decided to do an on-mic taste test of various Deadpool related food tie-ins. So prepare to hear us try out the special Mutant Super Soda Red Dawn Slurpee from 7-11, the Chicken Cordon Bleu Mac & Cheese and Sweet & Smoky Angus Beef microwave dinners from Devour, and Mike's Harder Lemonade and Mike's Harder Lemonade Mango. We also discuss the new Celine Dion song and music video, "Ashes," recorded just for DEADPOOL 2. We then share our predictions on what we might see in the film itself, as well as our always impressive and dead-on box office predictions. Also, better late than never, our thoughts on AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. NOTE: This episode was recorded hours before NBC's renewal of BROOKLYN NINE NINE. Obviously.

84 - The Wolverine Audio Commentary

We're back with another installment of our audio commentary series, this time taking a look at that OTHER Logan movie from director James Mangold. That's right, it's time to revisit 2013's THE WOLVERINE, the second (and arguably somewhat forgotten) solo Wolverine film. After X-MEN: FIRST CLASS had put the X-Men film franchise back on track, this entry was under a lot of pressure to not only keep the hot streak going, but also to erase memories of the previous solo film, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. To do so, the filmmakers turned to a classic fan favorite story/setting, as the movie chronicle's Wolverine's adventures in Japan. While it might not be as beloved as LOGAN, this film is still a necessary step to get to that epic finale...but how does it hold up as stand-alone movie in its own right? Listen on to find out, and hear our thoughts on the film and its ultimate place in the franchise. As usual with our commentaries, watching along with us is recommended, but certainly not required. 83 - Love, Legion, & the Long Night

Do you believe in life after love? First up this episode, we examine that question in a special (but somber) edition of "Chatting Tatum," as we discuss the recent news regarding Channing's personal life. Then, on a more positive note, Joe shares his thoughts on the Marvel Knights 2010 miniseries "Angel: Revelations." Next, as crazy as the idea of an "X-Men podcast" might sound, that hasn't stopped Marvel and Stitcher from launching the recent audio drama, WOLVERINE: THE LONG NIGHT. We've listened to the early episodes, and we're here to tell you what we think about this experiment in a new form of X-Men storytelling. Finally, we review the first two episodes of LEGION Season Two. Is the show still as wild and inventive as before? Listen on to find out! 82 - DOFP 3D (Deadpool, Donald, & Delays)

In this episode, we take a look at the 3-D's...Deadpool, Donald Glover, and delays. First up, we discuss the brand-new trailer for DEADPOOL 2, analyzing the sights and jokes, and whether or not it has made us any more excited for the film. Next up, we cover the news that Donald Glover's animated Deadpool series is no longer a go at FX, which was most surprising in that it reminded us that Donald Glover was going to have an animated Deadpool series on FX. Finally, we share our thoughts on the recently announced release date delays of X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX and NEW MUTANTS (again!). What do we think this means for Fox's X-MEN movie universe? Listen on to find out. Contact Days of Future Podcast at: facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast [email protected] Twitter: @dofpodcast

81 - Mutant March Madness

A new tradition is potentially born, with our first annual Mutant March Madness episode. Who is the greatest X-Men character of all time? It's a subjective question, one that is probably impossible to really answer. But that doesn't mean we won't try, with a special tournament pitting 64 of the most famous X-characters of all time against each other to determine just who is the best. Factors that determine victory include strength, uniqueness, visual design, and - if all else fails - who would probably win in a game of one-on-one basketball. Listen in as we debate each match-up based on a randomly selected first round...and only one of us can choose the winner of each contest. Possibly controversial, and certainly contentious (at times), this one was a lot of fun, so sit back and enjoy this super-sized episode as we use some of the loosest logic possible to decide just who reigns supreme in the X-Men universe. 80 - The New New Mutant

So we finally might know why THE NEW MUTANTS has been delayed a full year, and apparently it is to add an entirely new character to the film in reshoots. In this episode, we speculate who the new addition might be, as well as what a move like this might mean for the current state of the movie in general. But first, we look at the recent controversial proposal to arm teachers, and try our best to connect it to the world of the X-Men. Plus, we discuss the recent announcement that AVENGERS:INFINITY WAR's US release is being bumped up a week, and address the theory that DEADPOOL 2's release date had something to do with this. All this, plus A LOT of talk about SAVED BY THE BELL, including an intense debate over which had the better theme song, the original show or THE COLLEGE YEARS. 79 - She's Not the Messiah, She's a Gifted Little Girl

After over a year of watching the X-Men and other mutant teams deal with the devastating fallout of 2005's "House of M," in which the mutant population was decimated, in 2007 a three-part saga was commenced to finally pay off and bring to a climax the events set into motion by that event. In this episode, we look at the first part of that saga, the 2007 crossover event "Messiah Complex," which sees the X-Men, the Purifiers, and Mister Sinister's Marauders all fighting to gain control of the first mutant birth since "House of M." Except, what they don't know is that a thought-dead former X-Man actually has the baby...and another trusted teammate is about to betray them all in an attempt to destroy the child. "Messiah Complex" was the beginning of a new era for the X-Men, simultaneously bringing hope (literally, even) back to the mutant universe, while also kicking off an even darker, more violent tone that the books had previously seen. We discuss it all, with an in-depth discussion of the event. But first, our thoughts on the new DEADPOOL 2 trailer, and we speculate about the recent news that Brian Michael Bendis will be teaming with Tim Miller for a mysterious X-MEN movie currently known only as "143." Plus, Trev shares his quick thoughts on BLACK PANTHER, and Joe tries very hard not to die from pure joy, as this is a very Cable-heavy episode. 78 - Resurrected, and It Feels So Good

In this episode, we tackle one of the most debated topics in the world of comic books: death and resurrection. As the X-MEN comics (again) bring back a number of previously deceased characters, we discuss whether this sort of storytelling tactic is still exciting and worthwhile, or just an unnecessary cheat that has devalued the narrative impact of character fates. But first, we address a mistake we made during our review of THE GIFTED, and discuss the historical significance of LOGAN's Oscar nomination (while also trying to remember a bet we once made about the very topic). All this, plus arguably way too much talk about MTV, FRIENDS, and STAR WARS. 77 - The Gifted Season One Review

The first season of Fox's THE GIFTED is now in the books, which means it's time for us to take a look at the full first season. What did we think of this television take on the world of the X-Men? What worked? What didn't? Who were our favorite characters? And are we excited for the already announced second season? We answer it all, in a comprehensive discussion of the X-Men show that isn't LEGION. But first, we ponder if the MULTIPLE MAN movie will still happen in the wake of James Franco's #TimesUp controversy, speculate on whether DEADPOOL director Tim Miller will really end up making a KITTY PRYDE movie, and try to figure out the meaning behind the recently announced release date shake-up of Fox's upcoming X-films...including a brand new episode of our podcast-within-a-podcast, "Chatting Tatum," where we also discuss GAMBIT losing ANOTHER director.
